Great musician and brilliant, subtle band leader!
If this music doesn't put a smile on your face or get your feet tapping then there's something wrong, absolutely brilliant,
I read your comment, looked down, and darned if my feet weren't tapping.
Cornet, my instrument Started playing it the summer after the 5th grade, still have it ,brass. Am now 81.
I started to play the CORNET when I was 15 years. Now 87 and still blowing.
The world needs more Shayes.
Stand up the real slim Shayee.
This is my favorite Tuba Skinny song. I play it 3 or 4 times each week. Sometimes two or three times in a row. So lucky to live contemporaneously with them!
The Best tune yet , listen to it daily when I get up and when I go to sleep … TB is tops !…
For me it's this song and their Jubilee Stomp, the one recorded at night on the street
Since you love this tune (what’s not to like - I sometimes keep if playing continuously) check this version with Norbert Susemihl too (with Shaye on piano) - best performance.
Night on Frenchmen Street (feat. Erika Lewis) [2021 Remaster]
Norbert Susemihl & Shaye Cohn
Yes, I do love that one!! It has such a spirit of New Orleans about it.@@hank1519
@@billbush1270 Cheers!
I don't know how Tuba Skinny has stayed so tight, so long, but... LOVE it. Keep it up!
Unattainable,Shaye, begond belief!!! from Argentina ( down here) on the globe greeting
Muchos saludos paisano desde Texas.
@@bobboscarato1313 hola Bob deseo que estés bien, saludos

Wow, absolutely WOWWww... What an amazing rendition of REAL Dixieland jazz. Had I not seen or known who, and my eyes were blinfolded, I'd have been guessing great names. She plays that horn like Louis! He may have blown some a bit higher, but then ONLY Satch could do like Satch did😄 Great stuff.
Watched this several times. The solos were great. This tune is now up there in my Tuba Skinny favs.
I say again I love, love this band.
I whole heartedly have to agree.
They are among the best!!!
I agree with McGee 😀
One of my loves for Tuba Skinny is that they are down home real people. I've never seen glamour; they enjoy what they are doing, and I'm impressed that they don`t try to impress, and they are one of the best. Thank you from an old man that stumbled upon you a few years ago and continue to listen. I've shared your music with friends and they all like. Life is short, enjoy......
Amen brother!
Yes Monroe - you words have made another old man happy. Thank you
And another one. 86.
О, как вы правы !
I've met some of them. The nicest, down-to-earth people! I need to go back to New Orleans this spring before it gets so hot!
Just LOVE Tuba Skinny... this piece, especially!! I can close my eyes and drift away to another world.
Yes, they are in a class by themselves. Such a great feel for the music.
The best Jazzy-Band in the Land, great orchestra !!!
This music makes my heart sing!!!
So beautiful. Totally in love with this band❤️. And performing in aid of such a great cause too! Bravo Tuba Skinny 👏
Love from Scotland. So refreshing, so foot tapping good.
Shaye ages like fine wine. Brilliant!!
Wonderful !!!!
Outstanding...as always!!!
Shaye Blows me away..Such a Great Player,so multi Talented..Love Her 🎼🎶🎶❤️✌️😎
Another genius solo from Shaye Cohn as she channels Satchmo and the roots of the blues in the mud of the Mississippi delta. It started with the blues, Louis Armstrong took the blues and made it jazz and Shaye takes all of that and makes it live again. I can't get enough of her beautiful mellow coronet sound and feel for the blues and New Orleans music history. She is a treasure and I am addicted to her playing. And of course there is the group itself, Tuba Skinny which is the canvas on which she paints. Love her, love these guys and may they play for a long time to come.
Только так!
Great to see that music kept alive in the country that invented it. Such music will keep going after the pretensious singers on mainstream radio dies out.
Absolutely love this version of the song!!! Satchmo would indeed be proud!
Awesome!
Love Tuba Skinny. Great music. Maks me feel happy.
and the band plays on....Tuba Skinny is so good! 5 STARS! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
MERCI TUBA SKINNY pour le bonheur que vous apportez avec votre musique et votre façon d'être
Love this band. Great music, great talent, love it. You bring the world much needed happiness. Thank You.
Great tune. Awesome performance.
Thanks again for another fine video.
Best wishes Dave from Berlin Germany 👋
You're very welcome Dave.
This is just wonderful. Probably the best in the world right now.
Just fantastic!
I was there live in Philly at the Commodore Barry Club. Great show!! Good fundraiser for PUP (the Philadelphia Unemployment Project, one of our great Philly institutions.
This caught my attention too!
5.05mins of pure pleasure.....Thank you so much.😁
One of my favorite Tuba Skinny pieces. Great melody, great ensemble playing and Shaye soars above it all!
Wow. That was the happiest tune I've heard in a while. My face aches from grinning.
Oh, Shaye!
They are a wonderful gift to us. Just keep swinging folks. I love you all
Great sound snappy, raspy, krispy and jazzy, nothing better than that great tuba lines. Simply beautiful! This I can hear all day all week. Bravo!
Thanks, Pops. I love reading about every part of this great performance. By the way, does anyone know if Max is playing in 'Chicago' tuning (D-G-B-E) or C-G-D-A?
wow, real music with no yelling and screaming.....great time listening in. Thanks for sharing.....
Great band. Great band leader.
Shaye showing once again why she is such a super talented musician. Follow her solo from 3:28 and you'll hear some very innovative and soulful playing.............
and from 0.06 till 0.25 seconds
Her Solo reminds me of Louis' best solos, like Butter and Egg Man!
@@mikeinmarietta now you've done it, I am going to have to play that right now!
Shaye is as Masterful on the Coronet as Louis was on the Trumpet with Once in a While!
Catch myself grinning every time. LOVE this stuff
AWESOME! My lord, Shaye's playing sounds just like Louis Armstrong's. Knocks my socks off! Tuba Skinny... as good as the original Hot Fives and Sevens.
Aloha from Hawaii. I absolutely, without any Prohibitions, I love Tuba Skinny!
Just another great performance by these amazing jazz musicians. Take me back to my playing time. Thankyou.
It's been well said that their second egos within this New Orleans Jazz Band. There are only highly polished musicians with years of experience playing together. Seldom do we get to see such a tight group of people who are so good at their craft that they completely understand each other so well.😊😊😊😊 It's especially great to note that bond of them are old enough to have studied under the folks from the '30's and '40's, the first generation of New Orleans Jazz players. Awesome, gang. Well done, as always.😊😊😊😊😊👍
Great as Usual Thanks
Their music always makes my day and brings a smile to my face and soul. 😀😇
Wonderful! I love them so much and they bring me so much joy! 💖
Brilliant. Love your music 🎶. Many thanks from Chris and Jane 🎉
Fantastic performance!
Wow! All I can say is Wow. Well done!
I Saw this Band in New Orleans in 2019 Fantastic live on Bourbon St.
These people, and indeed all musicians, are truly blessed by God (higher power) with abilities that most of us can only marvel at. I played in a HS band and could not play without the sheet music in front of me, and even then was challenged by some of the music. To know hundreds of songs by heart takes more ability than most of us possess. Kudos to all of these band members and all musicians in general
"Chapeau for this COMMODORE BARRY CLUB!" => Fantastic BAND on a Fantastic STAGE and The Dance-Floor "at the side!".
I must add my own thanks for yet another uplifting performance. My introduction to Tuba Skinny was 'Postage Stomp' when a couple of girls provided a piece of unscheduled humour right at the start by knocking over the band's display and contributions table. Robin picked up a couple of stray banknotes and ran round to pop them in the box. 😄 Great fun - I watch this over and over again.
It is nice to listen music, and specially by Tuba Skinny.
Fantastic. These kids are getting better and better. Blending like Big Dogs!
On average when i open UA-cam i always looking for them..
Love from Indonesia..
Your music is soooo compelling n never more then when I hear shay on that sweet coronet - blessings to all the band!!!! Jim
great music. Love every thing about tuba skinny. could use more smiles and giggles
Just beautiful!
TS just gets better and better as the years go by - maturing like a fine wine!
I watched the leader for hours before I appreciated how she unobtrusively conducts the group. She rarely displays her extraordinary range of talents: I have heard her play the piano and the clarinet although she mostly stays with a range of trumpets. The music is fine in every respect. World terrorists should listen to this instead of 'playing' their usual activities.
Just a note, note ive mostly seen her playing the cornet
Well said
Andy Schumm is another who can play a variety of intruments to a high standard.
Very introspect comment on her playing.
She is a phenomenal versatile musician
Love this band to pieces!
Liked the glimpse of the dancing couples to this very enticing tune, done as well as always. Great solo by Shaye!
I love this. Thank you Tuba Skinny!!!
Nice job John.
And thanks for all your work.
You're very welcome!
Love these Armstrong Tunes! - More Hot5/7 please TS!!
I have Armstrong's 78, I can't pick who does it better, these guys are great.
Simply tops!!!!!
Great Band! So well played.
Go Tuba Go!
Superb!Hello from France !
That cornet solo was sublime.
Shaye is amazing, but so is the whole band. Love their version of this song.
Merci beaucoup.
I do love you and your music so much!
素敵な演奏です。騒がしいだけのデキシーも多いですが
こうした品のある演奏にひかれます。ありがとう。
Thank you for this great music!
So beautiful ! Congratulation from Belgium !
Semplicemente fantastici ❤
i want this music in my life
Sometimes its worth slowing the track down to 3/4 speed, just to appreciate really how talented these musicians are, and how much of it just washes over the top of my head at normal speed.
Great idea! Thanks, dude!
Excellent. Really made a difference in my ability to really hear the music in my 78 year old ears. Thanks very much!!
BTW I've been a Tuba Skinny "fan boy (senior)" for several years. This is one of their best!!
Quel beau morceau...La musique enivrante, nous avons le gout de danser sans cesse.
What an arrangement! Cool ensemble! Made me smile 😅
Saw them the following week in Vermont, such a delight!
Simply fantastic!
wonderful smooth cornet playing!
So fantastic beautiful, love it, now I only wait for Potato Head Blues, hope so they will some day
Many thanks for filming this, John. 'Once in a While' was composed in 1927 by W H Butler
. Tuba Skinny play it in the key of C. As you can hear, it has an Introduction and then just two themes - a 16-bar first theme, and a 32-bar [16 + a similar 16] main theme that uses a simple chord progression. Two-bar breaks are often taken on bars 15 and 16 of the main theme; and also sometimes on bars 31 and 32 as a soloist takes over from his predecessor. There is coincidentally a QUITE different song called 'Once in a While' , composed in 1937 by Edwards and Green. It is a lovely ballad of 32 bars - a-a-b-a in structure, usually played at about half the speed of the Butler composition. In case anybody still needs time stamps, here goes:
00:00 INTRODUCTION.
00:04 THEME ONE - 16 bar melody stated by Shaye.
00:25 THEME TWO - 32-bars, Ensemble, without breaks.
01:05 Probably (off camera) Shaye's hand-on-head signal, telling everyone to return to THEME ONE.
01:06 THEME ONE - The 16 bars this time ensemble.
01:27 THEME TWO - Craig's solo, including the break on bars 15 and 16 at 01:45 and allowing Barnabus to take the final two bars at 02:06 as a transition to his solo.
02:08 THEME TWO - Barnabus solos, taking the break at 02:26 and thereafter being supported by Craig and Shaye, before also 'cutting' at bar 31 (02:46) for
Max to take the break at the end of the Chorus.
02:42 Note Shaye setting up what will happen in bars 31 and 32, and the following chorus.
02:49 THEME TWO - Max leads on the banjo over the first 16 bars - including the break on bars 15 and 16; Todd leads the remaining 16 bars
but with Shaye taking the break in bars 31 and 32, leading into her own chorus.
03:27 THEME TWO Shaye improvises over the 32 bars, the others playing an interesting well-rehearsed pattern of stop beats, Shaye taking the breaks
at bars 15, 16, 31 and 32.
04:09 THEME TWO - Ensemble, with Robin taking the break on bars 15 and 16.
04:49 CODA - two added bars to round it off.
The timestamps are of so much help to me grasping the music structure.

Tks as always
and
Tks again !!

@@장덕원-m6h Thanks for your kind words. Knowing that some people find them helpful makes my effort worth while.
The intro is D7 - G - C stop. THEME ONE chords are C - C - G - G - G - G - C - C (repeat C - C - G - G and end with D7 - D7 - G7 - G7). THEME TWO chords are C - C - E7 - E7 - Am - Am - C - C - F - F - C - A7 - D7 - D7 - G - G, generally, but stopping on C where there are stops at the end. I think the coda is a C - G - C vamp.
@@Ivartshiva Thank you so much. That is really helpful to anyone wishing to play along or to learn the piece.
Don't explain the music.................just enjoy it!
Infectious joy to the max!❤
