      Ime in the trade in England.
      I always roll the walls first before cutting in, then that gives the walls time to dry whilst cutting in.
      I find that way much quicker , I also use a scuttle bucket for my paint instead of a tray.

    • @gulllllll1
      @gulllllll1 4 роки тому +1

      @@darrencollier1927 sometimes I roll first as well and then apply two cut ins and finish on a roll . Whatever works aye mate as long as it looks good 👍

    I've worked as a painter in the past, and have to say so far your tutorial is the best I have seen on UA-cam. Having worked with top notch painters, I am pleasantly surprised to learn some nuances that were amiss from my experience. You got a like and a new subscriber!
    I would like to share a tip with all of you: having worked with many decorators in the past, I learned to always remove all the wall plates and mask the electrical components. Meanwhile, clean the wall plates from any dirt, sand, prime and paint them with the same color of the wall - or cover them with the wallpaper being used, if that's the case - once the paint is dry apply 2 coats of non-yellowing sealant, scrape with a blade any excesses of paint and wait as long as possible to put them all back, that is to give the chance for the paint to cure properly. Aesthetically the finish result is incomparable, no matter how humble a room may be. As they say, the devil lies in the details!

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  4 роки тому

      I have noticed Aussie switches and power points are different to American ones. The new style here have a cover plate that you remove when painting and replace when finished, the switch still looks like the one in this video except it has a removable cover.

    So I just completed painting a mudroom using a technique like this, using an off-white with pearl sheen. When the paint dried, I had lap lines (sheen differences) galore in certain light, looking down the wall. Yikes. I think I my roller may have been too dry when laying off, or perhaps I didn't overlap my up and down strokes quite enough. This gentleman makes it look so easy! I'm back to Square One, starting over. I'm going to try an eggshell sheen this time, to reduce the light reflecting on an imperfect technique, hopefully.

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  2 роки тому +1

      Yes you most likely didn't have enough paint on the roller or maybe the nap of your roller sleeve was to short. Use around 15 mm nap, you should find this works better.

    Good video but you should remove the power outlet covers before painting. It’s a lot easier, you can paint right up to the metal, and in the future when the outlets are replaced the standard for the cover size may be smaller, meaning you’ll have to repaint the wall if you didn’t remove them

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  Рік тому +1

      Outlets here in Australia are different to other countries, we do have a cover plate on the new style of outlets but the outlet is still screwed firm to the wall. We could remove it but the wires are connected to it and it would only hang down the wall. Generally for insurance purposes we do not play with them. The one in this video is and older style with no cover plate.

    This is the Best Technique to use and definitely very well explained/demonstrated.
    I needed this video for reassurance. At the time before starting my project(s), I couldn't find anything like this online or UA-cam. I did it like this anyway using prior experience. I'm so glad these are the exact steps you demonstrated, definitely reassuring.

    Would you cut in the whole wall on a final coat like you did on this video or would you do it in sections as you go?

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  5 років тому +11

      I do cut in the entire houses before I roll, light colours are fine to be done this way but some darker colours would need to be done wall by wall.

    How do you manage to get so much paint on wall? You've literally done the whole wall in 6-7 minutes. Roller must be really good

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  5 років тому +2

      A good roller sleeve helps, normally I would use a 14 inch roller which is quicker again.

    As always great techniques I am actually going to start painting my walls tomorrow everything has already been cut in few days ago though new paint added is not noticable, paint I am using is called Behr marquees ultra semi gloss one coat & it dries very fast so have to work fast with it or paint will start wrinkling temperature will also be in low 80's tomorrow so may have to get an early start on it. Thank's for another great video👍

    After brushing I roll the top horizontal before rolling the wall vertically. I find it easier to feather the roller pressure off doing the vertical rolling if the top is already rolled horizontally.

    Nice lesson. Most people seem to be trying to show us how to do it super fast, criss crossing the wall and stretching the paint. How much paint do you put on the roller and what do you do when there’s not enough space between the wall and power points? Brush strokes would look very different. Is it ok to roller off with a first coat of durable Matt?

    I find in hot rooms or drywall that it is best keeping your cutting in ‘thin’ and always side roll it before vertical rolling otherwise you can get a showing cut line. Also in dark rooms and ceilings am LED light really helps identify problem areas and roller lines

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes you can roll sideways after cutting in the ceiling line but generally its not necessary, if you keep your cutting in tight as in don't come down too far it is normally fine. Dark colours can be an issue and it can be best to have two people doing it, one cutting in and one rolling. If you can see roller lines then you are not rolling properly, there should be no visible roller lines no matter what light you use. Using lights in a room with poor lighting is a must.
