Dave Grohl was the drummer. He’s the front man for Foo Fighters now.
and for Them Crooked Vultures, with Josh Homme and John Paul Jones (Ex-Zep ....!!)
Love the Probot album he did too, especially ‘shake your blood with Lemmy
...and Queens of the stone age 🇵🇹🍻
@@ruialves4965 And......
Do we really have to say that anymore? Really?
Try imagine a world where nothing on MTV or mainstream radio sounded anything like this. Practically the day before this video dropped Guns and Roses and Michael Jackson was the music that got played. And then this video dropped and everything changed.
It is something that is almost impossible to relive, there are some songs that modern listeners sometimes don't get or understand what it is about a song that made it stand out. It isn't now, but sometimes a song had a new sound either as a whole or as elements at that instant in time, and now is not easily discernible as new. It is one of the most elusive and temporal experiences.
@Syx And sometimes it is the message of a song that makes it new, or at least is a pin in a timeline. Neil Young's Ohio is the final act of the '67 Summer of Love, Woodstock, and Innocence. Teens and young adults in the late 60s had viet nam to protest and identify with, the generation that followed had Nixon and Kent State.
@@Wombbatts I think I discovered Pearl Jam aroud the same time. Which then lead me to Temple Of The Dog Which then lead me Soundgarden. And then Alice In Chains and then STP arrived. And then oddest of all is that this lead me to purchase the 10 disk box set of Led Zeppelin in early 94. I was a junior in High School and that's when I switched from the 90's to the 70's.
Nirvana, Pearl Jam, RHCP......start of grunge movement 💗
@@bethshadid2087 And then people call Neil Young the Godfather of grunge and you realize that the label of grunge is total BS. It's just rock and roll played by artists who write and record music for themselves instead of music for the label. Hence records like Zeppelin III and Tonight's The Night and No Code.
I might as well be the first to request it.....Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (MTV Unplugged). It’s a must.
One of my favourites that and heart shaped box 👍
I 2nd that one!!
Its a cover a very old black folk song
Yes, great one- but to see the moment he opens his eyes- George will have to keep his eyes open this time! 😅
X2 X3 X4 X5 X6 X7 X8 X9 X10 XInfinity
This song marked the official end of the 80s. I love watching people react to it for the first time.
And it thankfully specifically spelled the end of Night Ranger and bands like them. Thank you just for that, Kurt!
90's 🍻
80s >>>>>>>>>
always
and before u come at me i literally adore “smells like teens spirit” def one of the best songs in existence
@@graymouser6599 More details please! What kind of sound was Night Ranger?
Everyone went nuts for this when it came out. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden. Best time for music.
Nirvana were a really influential alternative music band formed in 1987, and breaking up in 1994 after the very sad death of their singer Kirk Cobain. Dave Grohl was the drummer who went on to form The Foo Fighters, another massive band. He is the front man of the band and Taylor Hawkins is the drummer. Taylor is a massive Queen fan and they always or usually do a cover of Under Pressure during their concerts with Taylor mainly doing the singing and Dave taking over on the drums. It's great to watch on UA-cam. Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of Nirvana's most famous songs, I just adore the riff - I have that downloaded along with a couple of songs from their MTV Unplugged in New York album which was all acoustic music. All Apologies was one and also a fantastic version of Where Did You Sleep Last Night, a very old traditional American folk song - they did the Lead Belly blues version. I've actually got it on a CD in the car and I listen to it a lot. Great reaction, guys, to this fantastic song! Many thanks. I joined Patreon recently so been enjoying finding my way around. I saw your reaction to Tom Sawyer by Rush for the first time - I don't think that has ever been unblocked on UA-cam? Enjoyed that - I love the Tom Sawyer song. Cheers guys.
it may be a typo, but it's KURT Cobain, but no sweat :)
@@blindingbard3556 Hi there, yes, it is a typo, thanks anyway, cheers.
When this first came out, I thought “these guys are insane!!” It was really crazy and influenced by punk. What a great band.
This is the opening track off their 1991 album "Nevermind", I consider it one of the best albums ever made to be honest. Every single track is phenomenal, No filler. Highly recommend you check out the entire record! They only released 3 studio albums before Cobain died which were: Bleach, Nevermind and In Utero. Their live MTV Unplugged album is worth checking out as well.
i assume im in a minority when i say i like in utero more
@@tvph ur not
I'll be 60 now and I've still seen Led Zeppelin live, but when the record Nevermind came out, and especially this song, it hit like a bomb. It embodied the mood and feelings of a whole generation. Somehow there was something completely new again. Unfortunately it was the last time for me personally. there were still some great bands in the 90s but then it always flattened out. today, good music but well, uniformity. nothing more where you think, wow
Seen this video start playing on MTV, kinda in the background over my buddies' shoulders while we're passing a joint around in his bedroom, volume kinda low plus music coming from speakers behind me (not from the TV/video in front of me) idk, it was like discovering sex and magic rapid fire, no warning. Like experiencing Pink Floyd but at the planetarium! Double whammy 2KO life changing, like seeing Pulp Fiction on a big screen, entirely blind reaction, and the huge yellow lettering explodes on the screen in sync with Dick Dale's guitar exploding in your ears introducing the title and star studded cast....I knew immediately that this was a cornerstone "happening" that marked a dramatic turn from "before this" vs "now and beyond"....Tripping!!!
Pearl Jam - Garden
Yes please!
Now that you have opened up the Grunge hole... you need to do Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, just as influential as Nirvana
RIP Kurt Cobain, this man is missed so much and the drummer is Dave Grohl, who is also the lead singer of FOO FIGHTERS 🔥 #GRUNGE
Ehm.... Can't leave out the ONLY grunge band still "alive".....Pearl Jam!!!
Hey 👋 @David ANOTHER case for someone needing to have read the comments BEFORE commenting themselves.....🙋🏻♀️(me). I put a comment up higher that started out with something like: “ Now that you’ve opened the Grunge Rock door...” 😝
Oh well... I’m glad I didn’t GO ON to type the LIST I was thinking about too, Iike:
Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, as Pearl Jam, and Mother Love Bone, for starters!
😆😆🤣🤣😎...
Millennials: [arrive at party 30 years late]
John McClaine: Welcome to the party, pal!
Millennials grew up on grunge lol. You must not know many.
Ok, now you need to react to Weird Al Yankovics Smells Like Nirvana. Al is the King of song parodies. Thanks
I'd like to 2nd a request for "Hunger Strike" by Temple of The Dog. It's Eddie Vedder(Pearl Jam) and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (and later, Audioslave). Temple Of The Dog was a one-time collaboration, for ONE album only in tribute to the late Andrew Wood(of Mother Love Bone, one of the original Grunge bands). Out of this collaboration, the members of Pearl Jam met and became who they are today.... It's killer album! BTW, Nirvana is incredible and Kurt was a gift. He clearly had so much to give to the world....It's too bad he didn't realize it! Next for Nirvana: "Come As You Are", "Heart-Shaped Box"..... RIP Kurt, Chris, Layne, Chester and all who left too soon.... Great reaction Bros!!
Great reaction guys. I shared my 60's 70' and 80's rock with my kids and when they were teenagers they shared Nirvana with me. I've been a fan ever since. It wasn't hard to transition. Again, Rock on!!!
Exactly what happened with me & my 3 daughters ♥️🎶🎸🎶♥️
@@vickieray Queen said it best "Our music changes through the Years".

Heart Shaped Box- Nirvana. ❤️
Nirvana - Unplugged. Any of it, any song or all of. It’s all good.
I love how the album is behind them 😂
Haaa you really must see what Weird Al Yankovics version of this song --- Its epic and perfect --- RIP Kurt we miss you
Yes! It's HILARIOUS.
Kurt Cobain had one of the most unique voices you can hear. And Nirvana was so oconic that it marked an era that as time passes we value it even more. A magnificent band with magnificent songs!! Please react to "Nirvana- Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (MTV Unplugged)"... It's wonderful!! Love from Argentina.
Drummer here Dave Grohl is now frontman of Foo Fighters, one of the best rock group nowadays. You should react to their song Pretender. It's one of the best rocks songs and the official video is awesome. Also Nirvana's live performance of Where did you sleep last night on MTV Unplugged is piece of art.
This was a death sentence for hair bands like Poison and Warrant . The musical landscape changed completely in 1991 when this came out.
I’m a 60 year old Grandma from North Carolina & I love this! “Heart Shaped Box” next ♥️🎤🎶🎸♥️
The grunge era of the early 90s was like the 60s, if you weren't there you missed out.
I was 19 when this came out and those were some awesome years, I was obsessed with 3 bands at that time Nirvana, GNR and Metallica. Makes me tear up thinking bout those days.
Perhaps the most famous song out of the grunge era...and broke the genre wide open to mainstream.....Famous video. Grunge has been described by some as America’s answer to British punk. You can really see those similarities in this song. Lots of teenage angst and anger. Keep in mind that the drummer here is a very young Dave Grohl who went on to form The Foo Fighters after Cobain death and the end of Nirvana.....Foo Fighters still very much a going concern.... other top grunge bands..Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog....all with outstanding vocalists.
We'll check them out too! Thanks :)
You know you're right - Nirvana
Awesome band ❣️Awesome reakt ❣️Happy belated birthday Patrick❣️🤗
Hey George & Patrick - this is my 2nd comment - hope you catch my first. What's important to know about this song is this: this is the moment that literally ended 80's hair bands. Just like that - 90's grunge was ushered in.
It's must be so hard to be young. Full of spirit like Nirvana is singing. During covid-19. It's the hardest discipline. . But it's a war. And Wars usually last a few years as you guys know. . So be careful. And take care of yourself and soon you will be going crazy dancing and it will all come back. Thanks for doing such a great job. Massachusetts
Patrick makes me laugh every time
I don't know if you've heard of Rockin' 1000? They are basically 1000 musicians, bass guitars, lead guitars, drums and singers etc who all got together and do concerts. They originally assembled in 2015 to sing a Foo Fighter's song Learn to Fly as a way of persuading The Foo Fighters to visit a small town in Italy, Cesena, to do a concert. And they did! Among other great songs, they do an absolutely fantastic version of Smells Like Teen Spirit. It's on UA-cam and I recommend you check it out - you can imagine the sound with a 1000 musicians!! They also do fab versions of Queen, We will Rock You and Deep Purple, Smoke on the Water, and lots more! The full concert at Stade de France, Paris, 2019 is on UA-cam and I often watch it.

Like the Beatles and Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols, they became the 'face' of a movement that truly had an effect on rock music history. Extra props for making their second album a bracing 'we mean it, maaaan', or for doing an entire acoustic set, and for some exhilarating live shows. At the time, they seemed closer to 'The Real Thing' than anyone else in rock, and their roar came across as honest as it was loud. And they were on the radio! They were a pop hit, like Michael Jackson and Sting...but with this! It seems the grunge years were rock's last real time as the currency of the culture, and those years were short. But they brought the noise to the mainstream, taking over from the 80's 'hair bands' and reinstated some degree of respect to the genre. They weren't alone, of course, as others will have noted, but I never thought any other band was as exciting as Nirvana. Cheers!
YES! when you can...ALWAYS go to a concert...I do 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Yeah Nirvana 🤘🤘
KURT COBAIN- VOCALS- GRITUAR- KRIST NOVESELIIC- DRUMS- DAVE GROUL- THE STARTED THE GRUNG SOUND, BAD ASS LOL
LOL when you said "how chill they are there sitting"
Kurt Cobain is the singer he died by suicide at 27 y.o. Dave Grohl is the drummer now in Foo Fighters.
Thought he was mainly guitar up front with the Foo Fighters
@@wwekane2468 you are right but he still plays the drums too I think when Taylor sings✌
They were a big part of changing music. They invented a new sound. It was amazing.
The lyrics in the fourth verse are
"With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious"...
Still relevant today.
Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing your reaction ❤
I’ve been WAITING & WONDERING if you’d ever open the “GRUNGE” Rock (or also known as: “ALTERNATIVE” Rock) door. And now that you’ve stepped one foot inside that door, it’s time to RUN 🏃♂️ don’t walk, all the way thru it!’🤗🙌🙌😀😎.......... You’re gonna LOVVVVE this ride!!😎
This music is blowing me away. Yeah
Ok, now you have to do Weird Al Yankovic's parody of this, "Smells like Nirvana". It's hilarious and surprisingly good.
NIRVANA - IN BLOOM
Will never forget sitting on the school bus in 91 and hearing this on the radio. Had my mom take me after School to buy the tape
Watching you guys experience Nirvana was epic. 😎
Queen - 'Lap of the Gods' live at The Rainbow 1974 🙏
The voice....the voice....her voice is the legend in the music world....piss love emphaty for u Kurt
Another great trio. Making some of the most memorable music. Kurt's writing was one of a kind. True poetry. Very unique songs. Some Other "Volcano songs are Lithium, Stay Away, Scentless Apprentice. Other great tunes besides those three (way too many to name really): In Bloom, Come As You Are, Drain You, Lounge Act, Stay Away, Heart Shaped Box (another volcano song). A very very controversial song at the time where the media didn't understand the song was their song "Rape Me" (ANOTHER VOLCANO SONG You should do that next). It was all over the news.....The elders were not pleased with that song 🤣
When I was a kid, my friends and me first heard this album years after it dropped. We were jumping off the walls, smashing furniture and not caring, the energy was so raw. Didn't even know about this video back then.
Like a Blue Giant star, they burned so bright and intense...and ended much too early, they deserve a long chapter in the history of rock music
Kurt🤍🙌🏻
Essa música me deixa louca kkkkk uma das melhores do rock
Fkg genius track, done perfectly.
I love the MTV UNPLUGGED 💕
Y'all know I'm a huge fan of yours & I've never requested but my FAVORITE is Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl was the drummer here & after Kurt past he started FF. Dave became lead singer, guitar, and 25 years later & 10 albums he's about to go into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame TWICE! (Once for Nirvana & now FF)
Please react to Foo Fighters "The Pretender".
Now check out Weird Al’s parody
Remember exactly where I was when I first saw/heard this song......so awesome 💗. Give Quite Riot a try "Bang Your Head".
God this song is one of the greatest songs of all time!
Love it! ❤❤❤🇨🇦
Hi guys! This was the spirit of a generation, especially for us, East Europeans who just passed the communism. Very inspiring. To see the impact for generations to come, check Smells Like Teen Spirit - Rockin' 1000. This never gets old!
I see the last concert in Rome Italy amazing in 1994
I bought this CD the same day it was released and it is awesome.
There's at least one live performance of this where, at the end, instead of repeating "My denial" Kurt repeats "Roger Taylor" (Queen's drummer). And, Kurt mentions Freddie Mercury in his suicide note. Another great reaction guys!
I didn't read through all the comments, but you LITERALLY have the album that this song is from on your wall (on the left side, third row down, second one in)
Thanks for checking out one of the best and most important songs ever written! Gen-X music fan here. I think rock died when Nu-Metal (Limp Bizkit), hip-hop (Puff Daddy), boy-bands (N*Sync, Backstreet Boys), and bubblegum-pop (Britney Spears, Spice Girls) took over the world. But currently it lives in, of all places, Japan. And especially among women there. I'd love to see what you think of 5-piece all-female rock band called Band-Maid (yeah it sounds silly, but the music is anything but) with their song "Warning!".
This changed the game back in the day
Grunge! Great times!
Hello, hello, hello, how low. Yes, please dive deep into Grunge!! You will enjoy!
Gotta check out Weird Als version
VOLCANO!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm sure I'm not the first one to request a Tool reaction. How hasn't it come up yet?!
I’ve requested it multiple times. Idk what their aversion is.
Nirvana has a lot of great songs.
This group and this song was the death knell for Glam bands of the 80s. Enter "Grung" exit Hair Bands... thank you Jesus.
REQUEST -CLOE DANCER/ MOTHER LOVE BONE , THE 1ST GRUNGE BAND, ANDY WOOD
You should react to In Bloom and Heart-Shaped Box by them as well
I'll 2nd those!! and add "Come As You Are"!!!
@@michaelgilbert197 just add every song they've ever made 😂
Dude! You can't go wrong with any Nirvana...
I ❤❤❤ Dave Ghrol
RIP CURT
Stay safe guys
Kurt Cobain was a very soft spoken guy, even though you wouldn't think so by his performances, he was a massive Beatles fan, sadly killed himself.
This many things at once
RIP Kurt...gone too soon!!❤🎶
6:00: "I know, I'm kinda fucked up" Same, bro.
You guys have such great energy. I really love watching. Check into more MTV unplugged performances, I love No excuses, Alice In Chains.
Nice
Check out Weird Al's parody of this song "Smells Like Nirvana" pretty funny
R.I.P. Kurt Cobain. Nirvana were the pioneers of the music genre called Grunge and affected so many groups after the 90s. As for the drummer is the nicest guy in modern music history, Dave Grohl who is the frontman of Foo Fighters now, by the way many great songs from them to react as well.
This song will always remind me of being at a friend's house when I was dating this one guy. He proceeded to do his rendition of this song and let's just say it tickled me so much I ended up marrying him. Give listen to some Foo Fighters(The drummer Dave Grohl's band): I'll Stick Around, Rope, All My Life, Everlong, Learn to Fly and My Hero just to start
That story is adorable!!! And I agree, Dave and the Foo Fighters are worth reactions too... :)
@@michaelgilbert197 Thanks! Everytime I hear this song, I crack up!

KURT, U WILL NEVER BE FORGOTON
This was underground music finding the light of MTV. Good or bad I cant say but like the previous comment said it was an end of chapter in music.
You HAVE to listen to their song Come As You Are.
Grunge was pretty much a combination of hard rock, punk rock and classic rock. Some times the songs had deep meanings or were kind of depressing but their target audience of teens and young adults were able to relate, which caused the genre to gain in popularity. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains are all other grunge bands worth a look if you haven't before. Peace and love
Ah! Get ready to go down the rabbit hole!!!!!
🔥
Greatest band ever! That’s Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters on the drums! I loved your reaction!
Definitely need to try Man in the Box. Alice in Chains, Same era, and an awesome song!
