- These HP Prodesk 600 G1 Desktop Mini PCs are awesome with being able to take socketed LGA1150 CPUs, but due to its compact 1L size has limited cooling.
Which surprisingly is still enough to cool a full desktop 65W Core i5 4690S that was not officially supported. But what's not good enough is the VRM's cooling...which is non-existent. Resulting in a loud fan during heavy loads which seems to be because of the EC (Electronic Controller) basing fan speeds from PCB temperatures. So I fixed it with some thermal pads! - Наука та технологія
This!!! This helped me a LOT! I have one of these and it sits in my bedroom acting as a low power mini server, but the noise, omg its terrible for my sleep. Mind you I live in a region o Brazil where the ambient temps are constantly over 35°C, HOT!

Baffling I know. The newer HP Mini Desktops seems to have contacts for the VRMs to the heatsink.
Decided to pick one of these up on eBay for a super good deal, it has an i3 4160t so I'm not sure if a 35 watt CPU would have vrm issues. I did surprisingly get windows 11 to work on it for my parents
I have a HP ProDesk 600 G2 Mini and a HP Elitedesk 800 G2 Mini and I had to redo the thermal paste on these systems. The issue with the VRM was fixed by HP, there are parts of the CPU cooler it self reaching down to the VRM on the motherboard and small thermal pads to take away the heat. The chipset is still on the underside of the motherboard. I do not know if you need thermal pads for the chipset but I will have to test that someday.
I liked your video, is it safe to put thermal pads at the bottom of the CPU like you did in this video?
I have a couple of 600 G4 DMs and will see how this can be retrofitted.
Offtopic question: did you ever tried an m2 2280 ssd on your 600 G1 mini? I've read mixed comments about this and want to clear a doubt about it
Could you tell me which company thermal pads you used? How thick were they? Where did you buy them?

Great video, just one bit of constructive feedback. It would be better if you used a fixed camera where possible as it is difficult to see exactly where you are on the motherboard as the camera shakes and pans too much.

The Gen 1 HP mini systems were poorly designed for cooling! The heat sink is in front of the exhaust fan, which means the fan has to suck the hot air through the heat sink to exhaust it out the back of the unit! This design flaw was corrected in later Generation minis.

with the fan set aside, it takes about a minute to put an M.2 SSD strip into the black socket.
If you want to boot from an M.2 then it has to be a special HP version that has the boot built in. Otherwise you have to modify the BIOS so you can boot from any standard M.2 drive.
@@markallen2536 Alas, hp has never made one, so I always use another brand, instead, when I open a 600 G1. The cost of some custom "booter" IC would make such an M.2 unprofitable.
@@bryanminugh9680 Not at all. In fact Samsung made the self booting drives for HP, so they are pretty good quality drives. I've seen them up to 500GB. I generally put the OS and ancillary programs on a 256 GB, and then use another 2.5" for data. I suppose you could also use an M.2 instead of a 2.5 SSD, with an appropriate adaptor. The second choice is to modify the BIOS so the M.2 slot itself can take any standard M.2 drive and be bootable. There are videos covering both of these methos on UA-cam.
i see you upgraded your cpu. do you think a xeon 1271 v3 would work in this? its an lga 1150 cpu i just wanna know if its suppported.
It will not. It does not have an igpu.
Just to update I used an m.2 gpu adapter and the Xeon worked!
is the cpu upgrade substantially better than the stock cpu it comes with (intel i5-4590T)?
I never had this problem with a pro desk 600 G1. It runs perfectly fine, but may crash a bit here and there but I never saw it at super high fan speeds.
He has changed the RAM with much higher power hungry RAM and does not know he could of bought low power RAM and the VRM would not get nearly as hot. The G2 version moved the RAM under the FAN instead of under the HOT SSD which almost makes this mistake unnoticeable.
Could you actually put thermal pads all across the motherboard or would there be an issue?
I have one of these and The screw that holds down the CPU bracket is missing. What is the size of that? The other 2 is M3 6mm. Is the third the same? I tried to find manuals but to see what screw needed but no luck yet. Thanks.
If you still haven't figured it out bring the whole system into Lowe's or home Depot

hi friend. interesting video, i have problem with cpu throtling on 2 hp mini pcs. Its 800 g2 mini with i5 6500t and 260 g2 mini with i3 6100u. When gaming on both after 30 sec cpu speed drops to like 50%, cpu temperature not a problem goes to 65-70c. When testing with furmark, stressing only cpu speed is good, testing only gpu speed is good, when i try to test cpu and gpu at the same time cpu speed drops 50% on both pc. What could be the problem, is it the same issue as you have. Cheers.
You're hitting the Amp-draw cap of the waste-heat limiter on these EnergyStar "green" CPU ending letter "t" (35W) and "u" (15W).
