Kudos for crediting Buildzoid, he's in a level of his own regarding the dissection of motherboards and its VRMs and created his own hardcore tech niche on UA-cam.
They credited him but they got the 8+2 thing wrong. It's 8 for CPU and 2 for SOC/IO. RAM has its own power delivery in the upper right area next to the slots.
No, it used to be about Linus unboxing a motherboard on a bench in the park. And you couldn't hear him telling you about all its features because of the wind. THAT's what it used to be about.

Such an insanely complex piece of technology when you really think about it, its incredible. 300,000 time PER SECOND. Just wrap your head around how fast these things happen on such a tiny scale. Fascinating, this is one of the areas that my love of Computers in general is built on, just the sheer amount of Engineering these things have. All happening without the user having any idea just how much is really happening, and then you get into how memory works which is even more mind blowing. It's all just so cool to me.
Hats off. This is probably one of the best videos LTT has produced so far. Slight complaint: When using the nanosecond wire, a little shout out to Grace Hopper would've been great.

This is great, and i'd love a continued series where componentry is discussed with white boards and such. Explaining things like "memory speed" and why the numbers look like they do are great for us who want to know the WHY, not just the HOW.
Actually I think that computer science courses focus more on the software side of things. If you want to learn more of this I beleive an electronics course is what you're looking for.
Imo it's misleading to call it CS, computer science. In german we call it informatik, which is much closer to what this is actually about: information science, which goes deeper into how information can be handled and manipulated. For hardware, EE knowledge is required much more
I followed an electronics degree course and had a 2 year "electronics and computers" minicourse prior to that over the same field. It does teach you how general circuits work and all but it's just basic level stuff (in regards to how hardware works that is; And since it's academic you'll be looking at low level circuits maybe mixed with some ampops at best... all else is going to be big stuff like transformers, power lines, etc). There is no course, at least in the coutry I live in, that is directed towards JUST computer hardware and how a computer works on a mechanical level (that's all I wanted and no matter how hard I looked there was none). These courses focus a lot on software and how there's 1's and 0's and here's logic gates and here's addresses, here's how C/C++/Python interacts with RAM to make/edit a program or file but they dedicate nothing going into how a computer actually works with all those things mashed together, how components comunicate with eachother, how CPU receives, processes and sends information, what signals it sends/receives; Hell they don't even tell you how a motherboard works but for programming expect you to know how RAM does, somehow. Then again, this is a recurring meme with university students from all over the world within various different courses... we are taught basics (sometimes not even that) and general info and then are expected to find out the rest by ourselves. I don't think there's even a master's (degree) for this subject. A lot of people that I've ever talked to that knew more intricate things about computers were self-taught... just goes to show.
But sadly, this isn't the kind of video that can be made easily. It might look simple, but gathering the correct information for these can get very complicated.
This is hands down one of the best LTT episodes I have watched in a really long time, and is definitely the sort of content I would love to see more of.

Kudos for crediting Buildzoid, he's in a level of his own regarding the dissection of motherboards and its VRMs and created his own hardcore tech niche on UA-cam.
The 'zoid is the man
Fr tho, he does not get enough recognition
They credited him but they got the 8+2 thing wrong. It's 8 for CPU and 2 for SOC/IO. RAM has its own power delivery in the upper right area next to the slots.
@@dudebroguymate Yup! I hope they will someday fix that mistake
This literally is what the channel used to be about. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE MORE OF THIS.
Eh, this is more engineering. Old LTT used to be more about strapping together ghetto bits of hardware
@@Idiomatick well fair, I was thinking more of the old TQ episodes.
No, it used to be about Linus unboxing a motherboard on a bench in the park. And you couldn't hear him telling you about all its features because of the wind. THAT's what it used to be about.
Videos where Linus is on vacation are always interesting, because they do either weird stuff or make videos you never thought you needed until you watched them. They should have a whole other channel where Linus is always “on vacation”
Agreed 👍
So a channel for LMG without Linus?

-Linus- Tech Tips
We’ve waited for this. It’s going to be a good week.
I think this is actually the motherboard *basics* that every nerd should know. For turbo nerd edition, I'd expect more advanced stuff. Very good video, though!
They're sticking true to the ways of Linus by dropping things I'm proud of them
More Turbo Nerd videos equals more better. More Turbo Nerd hosted by Anthony equals most betterest
Turbo nerd edition would easily become my favorite videos to watch on your channel.
Honestly, one of your better episodes. I LOVE the easy explanations. (it's exhausting trying to explain electronics to people) Thanks.
Anthony on thumbnail, turbo nerd edition in the title, "Lienus on vacation" in the opening... This is going to be awesome
Linus has been on vacation for 1 video and Anthony drops the best LTTStore sell in recorded history
"...we went full nerd." ... worth it. I've been in tech for 30 years and I learned new things today.
Same
Hats off. This is probably one of the best videos LTT has produced so far.
Slight complaint: When using the nanosecond wire, a little shout out to Grace Hopper would've been great.
I really like 'Turbo Nerd" you should do more of them
Reminds me of the older LTT days.

Until the next Intel upgrade to find LTT hardware 😂
That's called "job security" in the bizz.
Thank you very much.
It's been a quarter century since I built my last PC, and a lot of details have changed dramatically.
I'm going to build my next PC soon-ish.
Videos like this help establish basic understanding.
As a CS person. I love having videos like this to show to people. I also love watching and learning from them.
As a CE person i agree with you

Make an LTT distro. The community will update it.
LTT distro where random processes are dropped

We all know what the default background will be.
If this is the kind of quality content we get when Linus is on vacation please send him to travel the world.

Buildzoid is the only guy I trust to differentiate between motherboard details. Glad to see him expanding his network.
Buildzoid is who beginners watch and end up getting a $500 mobo for a russell 3600 bc that mobo has best vrms or some shit
@@danielantunez8355 If you listen to buildzoid and are honest to yourself you listen to him and get a MSI B550 A-Pro, if you buy more you either didnt think yourself or you need additional features
@@danielantunez8355 this is a shit take.
@@danielantunez8355 doesn't he usually recommend affordable motherboards. If you watch buildzoid and get a >$500 motherboard, you're an overclocker (competitive or not). I've not seen him recommended an expensive motherboard to regular people. Most $100 - $200 motherboards are good enough for 90% of consumers
I only watch BZ on GN so maybe it's different on his channel but his vids on GN are beyond the novice. This bid is a good starting point for the novice
Bringing real educational videos like this to a large audience always does some good
I really like this concept, it's nerdy and in-depth without being too technical. Would like to see more of this format!
This is great, and i'd love a continued series where componentry is discussed with white boards and such. Explaining things like "memory speed" and why the numbers look like they do are great for us who want to know the WHY, not just the HOW.
Definitely do more Turbonerds! I liked having the whole crew rotating through the segments.
You're teaching me more about computers than my computer science course.
"Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes"
For hardware, EE knowledge is required much more
@@nootics guten abend
This is better content than the normal, basically advertisement of products, content
Could not agree more, there's times I just hide their videos in my feed if I know its just a 10 minute ad
ua-cam.com/video/WYTCC8bpCiA/v-deo.html
That’s why they have 13+ million subs, though.
But sadly, this isn't the kind of video that can be made easily. It might look simple, but gathering the correct information for these can get very complicated.
Yeah, a rare case of actual tech content
The role of the motherboard is underappreciated. It manages all of your computer's hardware with little thanks.

Buildzoid is such a monster at explaining everything your tech does love his videos.
I thought I wouldn't learn anything new. Turbo nerd proved me wrong. Please continue this amazing edition
This is hands down one of the best LTT episodes I have watched in a really long time, and is definitely the sort of content I would love to see more of.
ROG Rig Reboot 2019 with Madison will be my number one for ever, tbh! Haha
But this vid is really close to be my second favorite. :D
"Linus is on vacation, so we're going to give you the content you actually subscribed for" is what it seemed like he was trying to say
He doesn’t really get to choose what videos are made, as you can see when he is given instructions on exactly what to use in builds, and exactly what he is allowed to say, and even given scripts.
As an embedded electrical engineer (BSc) and computer nerd, I love this type of video!

So Linus is on vacation and they gave us such quality content? I think the staffs should have their own channel.
Linus is the pewdiepie of tech channels.
Most popular due to targeted "oh my god" content with clickbait face thumbnails but actual little meaningful information. But entertains kids well enough.
No, he wants to grow his business. That false impression was fostered in order to establish the new media personalities he himself hired. He is brilliant in his own right, but chooses to give his personality a more accessible mass market approach. He’s also a great boss and force for good in tech.
@@tomstech4390 I mean yeah , I think thats why he dose it. He knows not everybody is so into tech and want to explain to the people who don't know.
