- This video shows how to upgrade the processor in the HP ProDesk 600 G2 Mini PC. Very easy to do just make sure you get the i7-6700T Chip and not just the i7-6700.

Great video thank you, just purchased one and this was just what I needed
No problem thanks for watching!!!!!
You can put a non-T version of the CPU in, but it needs the more powerful 90W power adapter. The T version is capped at a 35W TDP but the non-T version is 65W. Also it might require a BIOS update to get it working. I have the G3 version of this unit so I'll be upgrading it from the i5-6500T to an i7-7700, slightly faster, double the thread count but crucually for me, much more powerful integrated graphics. Great video!
Thank you for sharing that information with me I thought it was only capable of supporting the T Series CPU's Good to know sir might have to upgrade it again LOL!!!! Much Appreciated !!!!! John!!!!!
@@charleeeugene it's amazing how much they can be upgraded. Just make sure you double check, if yours is the G2 then I don't think you can use 7th gen Intel processors, so what you've got already is as about as good as it gets. The non-T is only around a 10-20% effective speed boost over the T version depending on the task. I could be wrong though, mine is the G3 version which is a generation newer. Even if you can't then it's still an amazing little system. Also, did you know you can add a graphics card via the M.2 slot? I saw a video where they attached a GTX 1060 and were playing GTA 5 on 1080p 😂 brilliant little PCs! Thanks for the videos!
@@JohnSmithUA-cam I prefer these small form factor desktops saves space and powerful enough to run what I use daily. That's insane using the M.2 Slot with a GTX Graphics card. Yes these little machines are amazing!!!!!
Can you advise where can I download the BIOS update for the non-T CPU? Thanks.
@@M150._. Which CPU do you have?
Thanks a lot! I certainly want to get one of these to use in my home office.
Yes I love these powerful small machines !!!!!
I love these little PC's, If I had more spare cash I would start a collection. I got a Lenovo M73 and it made an excellent Batocera box for my mother, and I have an Acer ViviMini under my TV as a 4K media player.
Me too I prefer the sizes of these machines. They have enough upgradability and power to handle whatever I throw at it. Saves desk space is well. Thanks for watching !!!!!
Good advice on the correct CPU designation in order to work. I wasn't aware of that. I've always wanted to try one of these liter PC's. The mini size and low wattage, and decent power makes them desirable. I can't take the noise of fans from my desktop anymore. These days, I want silence. And thus been running laptops on docking bays as desktop replacements. But these are so much smaller and cheaper.
Same thing with me I loved building desktops in the past but now I'm becoming more of a minimalist. I don't like running laptops with docking stations because it still depletes the battery cells. These HP Mini PC's are very capable and quiet .
I have this and the prodesk version great little machine, for the multi monitor support you need to enable it in the bios - top tip, tested with 3 monitors works perfect, great idea with the cpu upgrade gonna hit mine up
Yes Stir I have 2 of these little beast now. Thanks for watching!!!!!!!
@@charleeeugene totally agree man a beast of a unit for the price, great for multitasking also use them daily without fail. Also if gaming is a thing for people turn up graphics to max in bios and throw GeForce now in the mix, works well for most games. Maybe a future video for yourself? Thanks again 👍
thanks for the in depth info!
No problem!!!!
Excellent informative video bravo 👏
Thank You Sir!!!!!!
Спасибо за подробное видео . Это то , что нужно !
You’re welcome sir!!!!
I've had one of these for a couple of years trying out different things with it. I just installed MacOS Ventura on it tonight and it works pretty good. I might just look for a 6700T and see if it improves it in any way. And yes the specs say it will support 64GB of RAM.
I wonder what the price of a 32gb stick of ram will cost ?
@@charleeeugene Somewhere between $50-$65...A little over $100 for a 64GB kit.
@@jeffbaker4219 that’s not bad are you considering putting 64gb in your system ?
@@charleeeugene I might if I upgrade the CPU like you did...Very tempting lol.
I have one on the way, and I intend to exclusively use it as a Batocera retro machine. I’m pretty sure it should play anything up to and including PlayStation 2 without much problem, after that, I’m not sure if I’ll have to do any upgrades to it but I’m primarily a old school player as far as what this machine is going to be intended for.
I was using an old Inspiron 1525 from 2008 and it works fairly well but stumbled on slightly newer consoles. I’m hoping this will fit the bill.
I'm like you I prefer to play retro games myself. The fun factor is higher my opinion. You should be fine let me know what happens thanks for watching much appreciated!!!!!
Coffee filters are great for cleaning off thermal paste.
I'll try that out I'm doing another CPU swap very soon. Thanks!!!!!
im looking at some scrap laptops, and Ill probably still grab one for the small things, but when looking for easily upgrade-able mini PCs, what are the initial requirements to run some CAD software or DAWs and maybe play some games, ultimately intending to upgrade and would start with this Dell model you have as the introduction to my mini PC life, but I'm sure there's a Ryzen route that'll be equally fun to mess with.
CAD software will not run well with the integrated graphics but some light gaming is possible. I just got a AMD Ryzen 7 gaming laptop and I'm loving it so far. These mini PC's are cool because you can upgrade just about everything on the motherboard and it's super easy.
I had an old i7 6700 (non-T) from an Asus g20 that I dropped into a prodesk g2.
no issues.
but I did also upgrade the power brick because the i7 can run as efficiently as the i5 but it can also ramp up to 65+ watts.
Yes you are correct as long as you upgrade the power adapter.
I also drop an I7-6700 into my prodesk G2. System run fine with no overheating. Bios however does triggered an alert (901 Chassis fan not connected) upon every startup, which I need to press "enter" to continue boot.
That's not too much of an inconvenience@@hksin6680
I have Dell optiplex 3090 mff and i wanna install i3 10100. Could this work or not
Will a 6700 non-T not boot at all or just overheat?
I got error codes when I installed on my system but I've read some people got it to work. So maybe I ordered a faulty Chip. But honestly I'm glad it did because maybe in the long run it could've caused more problems. Keep me updated if you decide to go that route I'm curios.
I have one question, would it be possible to mount the i3-9100T to this computer in theory? because sockets match in both cases LGA 1151
Yes you can but why i3 ?
@@charleeeugene i3 because I didn't find i5 or i7 9th gen, and this 9th gen i3 it doesn't look bad in comparison to 7th gen i7, especially since I managed to get this i3 extremely cheap
@@GremlineQPl I recently had a 8th Gen i3 I was surprised at how well it performed.
Does the i3-9100t (or i3-9300t) work in a pro desk 400 G2 mini ? These are LGA1151-2 CPUs. My stock CPU (LGA1151) is the i3-6100t. There seems to be a lot of FUD out there, that 7th gen and later don’t work in older PCs. I’d very much appreciate some ideas before I purchase a new CPU.
I have hp prodesk G600 mini and just replaced cpu I7-6700 works fine but at startup comes fann error.
That’s probably why you might need a stronger power adapter for that cpu these mini pc’s usually run with T series processors optimized for low power computers
Hi! I've got the prodesk 600g2 mini, and all the internals run great for gaming, except the graphics card!! Is it possible to replace the graphics card in these minis? I'm nervous to try since HP support is not helpful in this aspect, and the mini are so small I'm worried it won't be upgradeable. Thank you so much!
You can't upgrade the Graphics card the only other option is an external graphics card and those can be really expensive!!!! Thanks for watching I appreciate it.
@@charleeeugene boo!!! I'm willing to pay for the external graphics card so long as it works LOL do you think an external would work for the g2 or g3 mini? Any recommendations?
And thank YOU for posting the content I needed! I was searching for hours lol
@@MissdermeanerJ I've never used an external GPU so I will have to look into it. Give me sometime to find out.
@@charleeeugene thank you so very much, I seriously appreciate you!!!
@@MissdermeanerJ Honestly the prices for a External GPU you'd be better off getting a gaming laptop. Google External GPU's!!!!
Get a 90w PSU and you can have an i7 6700 They have a TDP of 60watts. - The K version (including the I5 6600k) are 91watts so no good.
Good morning, does anyone know if the HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MD 65W version with Ryzen 5 2400g can be replaced with a more powerful processor?
Not sure about the Ryzen Processors. I've had bad luck with AMD. Won't hurt to try it out since AMD chips are way cheaper than intel.
@@charleeeugene Yes of course :) amd are cheaper :) but first i would like to gather information if it is possible, so far i have come to the conclusion that the motherboard of this model has a b350 fch (fusion controller hub) chipset and i found a list of compatible processors that is quite long :) the problem is that hp making bios for this board could only block it to the official list of models which is not impressive. Anyway thanks for the answer :)
hello everyone HP ProDesk 600 G2 Mini PC, it has an intel core i3 6100T processor and I bought a core i3 7100T and it doesn't work, does anyone have any advice?
That should work without issue. I hope the processor isn’t defective.
is thst 4th gen?
6th Gen
You can actually upgrade the ram to 64GB
Didn't know that I'll try it out in the near future 32GB ram is more Than enough at the moment. Did you install 64GB in yours?
@@charleeeugene I wish I could afford it. At the moment I am running my Optiplex 7050 micro with 32GB and its enough but there is a channel called ServeTheHome and they like these 1L PCs. They have tested out the 64GB upgrade and it works. So its just good to know that its an option should you need it in the future.
@@madarauchiha4298 yeah I would imagine two 32gb sticks would be expensive. I don’t think 6th generation i7’s are worth it.
@@charleeeugene For my use case mostly working from home with spreadsheets and 4k video streaming it works fine. But if I was to try video and image editing then it would probably struggle. Plus I got it new for a good price.
