okay the thing is obv the parents r financially struggling, recently moved, also recently got into a car accident 😭 it seems like coraline def had trust in her parents considering she's comfortable trying to talk to them at the start and they bond pretty normally at the end of the movie.. i feel like before the events of coraline they may have actually had a pretty good relationship, but it was all off screen before the beldam could spy on her and see this shift in treatment? she feels loved enough by her parents to not immediately agree to the buttons like the other children, implying that at least compared to them her relationship with her parents is more secure and loving (altho again her parents were clearly under heavy stress 😭)
(In my opinion) The Beldam doesn't kill Coraline because she doesn't eat their physical bodies, she eats their energy. Not only their energy but specifically their love or hate. If it was fear she could just keep Coraline trapped. But it seems there is some sort of Free Will involved where Coraline needs to willingly give her love(or hate) to the beldam. Love is stronger, so that's what the whole Other Mother ruse is about. If the Beldam earns trust and can be a better mother than coralines real mother while looking like her, she will be loved like a mother, arguably the strongest love.
The parents dont neglect Coraline! They are financially struggling, hence why they live in an apartment, own 1 car, and are very focused on the garden catalog. Their focus is to provide a better life for Coraline. She couldn't buy the gloves before the catalog was sold, but after she bought them. Her parents are stressed. But after the catalog was sold, all the tension was relieved. They were more lovable, they celebrated, and had time to work on the garden at the end. It's not that deep folks!

Coraline's book suggests that it wasn't the Other Mother who took her parents, but actually the _Mist,_ which also ultimately takes the Other Mother. There are hints of the _Mist's_ presence throughout the film, but it's much more subtle and omnipresent.
The notion of neglect is not suggested its evident, look at what they are feeding her and they are emotionally neglecting her as well, it may not be intentional but it is happening and made clear, hence her wanting a different life
Imo, the Mel isn't great. If you notice, Mel drive's Recklessly at the beginning of the Movie, Blasting Past the Moving Truck with a Super Close Shot when they do get past. Mel's car has very Minimal Damage to the front, so there would be no realistic reasoning for Mel to be wearing a Neck Brace, but on top of that, they Show she had Bought her Own Neck Brace by showing the Box it came in at home, which Never happens if you go to the Hospital, they Never give you the Box the Item came in, they just give you the Unboxed Item. Which shows quite clearly that Mel more than likely tried to commit Insurance Fraud and them Suddenly having to Move and them having Suddenly Almost No Money means that Mel's Attempt Failed and Lost them a Lot of Money. The Neck Brace was more than likely still worn simply to garner Sympathy from people are her in this new place along with the possible. "Oh woe is me, I'm so poor and i had a terrible accident." But also, what leads me to think that at most, Mel is an awful parent is because, well, i had this dynamic. My Dad is a great Dad, but he Had to work every day and couldn't be around as much, but he still did his best to do anything with me and my siblings, especially joke around, which meant we were much more attached and clicked with our Dad so easily with positive energy, just like Coraline and her Dad. My Mum though? Nope. She couldn't be bothered in the slightest, even though she didn't work, if we bothered her, we got a stern wording for us to go away like Mel Does and like Mel, Mum was the boss, even if she didn't deserve to be, but why she was is simply because my Dad didn't want to fight, being too tired too want to, just like Coraline's Dad. His look, actions and the way he spoke was Exactly how my Dad was all the time, Tired, Overworked and Always walking a Very Fine Line with my Mum. Mel is just awful, end of story. Regardless of Coraline being an Only Child unlike me, i still saw the Exact Same Family Dynamic like mine and that's why i absolutely loved Coraline at around 6 years old. I felt seen. With that Family Dynamic, any Child would want to run away through a Magical Tunnel were their Parents were Happy together and the playing field seemed actually even between the Mum and Dad. It's just nice. But also, the Beldam ended up repeating the Real Family Dynamic of Coraline, the Mum being Awful and in Control because of her Anger and the Dad being Tired, Stressed, Sad and Quietly in the Background, unable to do anything while the Mum was around. But also, i don't think Coraline ever got back home. The careful placement of everything like the creator said he did, shows she never went back to the real world, which is why the Parents seem both good and happy suddenly.
this complicated analysis really seems to short change just how much Coraline's parents financial situation could affect their behavior. Their neglectful and perhaps abusive treatment of Caroline could easily be the result of years of financial stress the family has been under. The family did not just move...they moved to a remote dump. They seem to be barely surviving. years of living like this could definitely lead to moodiness and irritability. Coraline doesn't seem to totally grasp just how precarious the situation is. The poorly stocked refrigerator could be the result of the parents not being to afford groceries. Rather than complex psychological problems, the parents seem the product of living years just getting by, growing more tired and bitter. its not right, but all that stress manifests in the parents snaping at each other and at Coraline.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her normal parents. My parents were worse at times. There’s parents that turn you into their slave or maid. Having boring parents that don’t bother you is a prize
The Real Mother had claimed she had found 'Rat Crap' but why and how does that connect to the reason she had locked the Little Door? All the Real Mother knew anyways was that it was bricked up (Or at least that's what she was **meant** to know..).
I have a theory So did you look at the black cat's eyes in the movie it actually looks like on of those button eyes but just in different colours so I think the black cat is one of the other mother's creations and the cat did escape that other world in a way Do you think this theory is a good one?
The Other Spink and Other Forcible are basically reflections of what the real ladies used to be like, before the real ones went a little "Batty", that is the sort of metaphor that was being represented in the appearances of the "Not-so-dead" Bat-like dogs and the revelation of how they used to appear as the acrobats/stage performers they used to be, in which is foreshadowed by the posters that are on the walls of the entryway of their apartment in the real world.

Someone said that the other mother isn’t the same person as her real mom because her hair is different but actually when the beldam turns in to her monster self the back of her head gets pointier and more sharper so the hair looks different but if you pay close attention then you can see that the real mom has the same sharper edge at the back of her head but their are many things that the beldam has that the real mother doesn’t like needles for hands and many more and when she buys coraline new clothes, she could be bribing her to stay so she can eat her to increase her mortality 😮😳🤯
