@Shoahshana Goldberg-Shekelstein there's also a Persian version, which goes really well with arak/raki. But you don't hear people claiming it's Iranian and crying about it 🤣. There's a Persian dish called Mirza Ghasemi, this dish is one of the most famous/traditional starters in Iran. You wouldn't believe how many other countries have the exact same dish, and claim it to be theirs. Philippines, India and so on. We should be proud we have things in common. Greeks, Turks, Iranians, Italians and Spanish are so alike, so much in common you'd think they're all from one country. I know because I've been to all those countries and they all thought I was a local. I look more Italian than my girlfriend, and she's from Naples. She looks more Eastern European.

I just prepaid some meat following this awesome recipe for tomorro's bbq. Hope it will be as tasty as I remember from my holiday trip to Greece in my childhood times about 4 decades ago.
I just love this stuff, I will put it on almost literally anything. Aside from pitas, gyros, and souvlaki, I include it on charcuterie plates, use it as a spread on sandwiches or burgers, and have even used it as the dressing for potato salads. The sour-savory combination and the fresh herbaceous flavor will compliment and brighten nearly anything. If every restaurant had a bottle of this magic laying around, I have no doubt that it would displace ranch dressing as the sauce that Americans put on absolutely everything.
I can't thank you enough for this recipe. I made about half a gallon for family Easter yesterday and every drop of it is gone. It is hands down the best tzaziki I have ever had in my life, no less the best I have ever made myself. Thank you from the bottom heart!

I made Gyros with Tzatziki according to your recipes and they turned out great! I'm a vegetarian, so instead of meat I used portobello mushrooms sliced on big chunks - kinda like steak fries. Your marinade for gyros is absolutely fantastic! And your recipe for Tzatziki was the best I've ever made. Thank you!
I just made my first tzatziki sauce 💪😋 It is delicious!!! Next step is pita bread. Thank you Akis, I love you channel! And btw the cutest English accent I’ve ever heard!❤️ Greetings from Split, Croatia 🇭🇷
Ohh Buddy! I woke up this morning and I thought "I need a new condiment / sauce in my kitchen". I searched goolge with "list of sauces" and after deciding on a general white colored sauce and seeing the familiar word Tzatziki (which I had never made or tasted before, only read about) I started watching some videos. I saw a few others with reasonable advice and recipe's but wasn't totally convinced. Then I found yours. Hey - Greek man, Greek sauce - Yep, I give you my trust. I usually change every recipe I find, but not this one. Everything you did, I did. Thanks to your help, I found the new sauce for my kitchen. I did the taste test with plain pita chips. I think I'll test it out with fried shrimp tonight. This is awesome! Fresh dill is one of my favorite herbs, and I was looking for new ways to eat yogurt besides with fruit. So, my thanks to you: A like, comment, subscribe and a visit to your website. I'm interested to see how the flavor develops overnight. Cheers, from Texas.
Thank you for the recipe, I made this and ate it with pita for a few days and around day 3 the flavors have all combined and boosted each other and this sauce is absolutely delicious 😋
I don't know why other youtubers don't use vinegar... I allways felt that something was missing when preparing it. I love this recipe, it's the best, I love sour foods and sauces! 😍 Greetings from Romania!🤗
You saved my life Akis 😂 I'm on a diet. Everytime I start to crave some tasty dishes I just grab some freshly chopped veggies and roasted chicken breasts dip in this Tzatziki to help.
+jmiquelmb well, there is a difference depending on where the olives come from, because the grounds haven't got the same characteristics everywhere, plus every type of olives has its own aromas which affect the oil afterwards. for example because we have many types of olive oils from many types of olives we can get our hands on the most tastefull olive oils. of course u can use whatever u have or whatever u can afford, because olive oil is expensive abroad, but if u taste the real deal, u will see the difference... whether it's greece, italy or spain u have to taste olive oil from someone who produces it, preferably a small family business.
Astrid Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm from Spain, so I buy Spanish EVOO on the supermarket because it's the easiest to find. I want to find a good local producer of olive oil nearby, but it's become more difficult nowadays, sadly. But I doubt my palate can discern the taste in a youghurt sauce like tzatziki anyway, so to me decent oil is good for now
+jmiquelmb Also useful to point out that large quantities of Greek extra virgin olive oil are purchased by Spanish producers and are blended in Spanish olive oil to up it's quality. Maybe you could contact some producers from Greece and have them ship you some. It would worth your money and trouble I can guarantee you that. The difference in taste and health benefits are enormous plus you could get a semi-large quantity and pass 1 whole year as it never goes bad.
+tsibosp Now you've offended my national pride. You better take that back. Nah, just kidding haha. I've seen some bottles mixed with portuguese and moroccan oil, but I think it's more due to cost reasons than quality. I'll stick to national oil for now, but I'll sure try yours when I visit Greece
I waitressed at a “semi fine dining” Greek restaurant a few years ago and I’ve been yearning for tzatziki sauce ever since. Not sure why it’s taken me like six years to finally think “hmm maybe I should just make some myself”, so finding this video was definitely a come up. I used to sneak pita chips with a little pinch of tzatziki sauce when I’d come to work hungry and OMG it was like the best thing EVER. Our head chef was this ornery, old, terrifying Greek man named Georgios who was a real tool. Idk that he was capable of speaking to anyone in any volume lower than “absolute yelling” (unless he was talking to one of the two Greek owners-Mr. Sarris or Mr. Kanakis-since these men essentially wrote his checks), and he was less than approachable. So I’m thankful that I have UA-cam as a resource to try and get access to an authentic tzatziki sauce once again. Now if I could just find a good recipe for loukamades and I’d be SET. Also, totally agree that Greek yogurt is the only appropriate base for this, but ALSO, Greek yogurt is just better all around, PERIOD. I don’t even eat traditional yogurt anymore. “The Greek Gods” brand, honey vanilla flavor, with actual honey added is better than any Dannon, Go gurt, yoplait whips nonsense that you could try instead. Also try substituting Greek yogurt for sour cream on a baked potato. You can barely tell the difference and it’s a lot healthier. I’m just saying; once you get hooked on Greek yogurt, it seems senseless to ever go back to what you ate before 🤷🏻♀️
I love to watch Akis’s channel.I’ve been following his channel for about two years now.I love your story and think the Greek yogurt is the best.I made a video on my channel about this delicious Greek sauce, and I wrote to Akis to let him know. Thank You for sharing your story.God Bless You.At the hospital where I’ve been working for forty years now,Mount Sinai Medical Center, I worked with a pharmacist from Australia and we became good friends. She retired a few months back but we still stay in touch. She is ten years older than I. I’m 61.I met her family through Facebook and keep in touch. It was nice writing to you.I made the sauce again and I saw his channel again so I won’t miss any steps.

My Mom would make the Greek meatballs (Keftedes) and we would sometimes use the Tatziki sauce on them instead of squeezed lemons. Now I love the sauce on grilled salmon steak... especially because of the dill ingredient. Thanks Akis for another great presentation!

Made this yesterday, had homemade pork gyros and greek pita bread too (your recipes). OMG! Loved it! I have made tzatziki before but this one is to kill for. It was delicious and the dill (if any complain, says optional), was a nice suprise. The white vine vinegar was a hit, never thought about that, made the whole tzatziki complete. Μια γλώσσα δεν είναι ποτέ αρκετή - ένα τρόφιμο, μια τραγωδία ...... Wow!!! I just found this by chance. I used to eat Greek food all the time when I lived in Europe, but it's hard to find authentic Greek here. I've never tried to make it myself, but perhaps I should. I'll have to make this for Super Bowl Sunday this weekend, with some lamb kabobs; I'm sure I can find some other stuff to Flambé with the bottle of Metaxa I keep hidden away........ Πολλές ευχαριστίες για την έμπνευση σας
+Akis Kitchen Well, I promised I would try to make this and let you know how it was. First try last week: Terrible!!! Hahahahahaha!!! Too much garlic I think, and yes, I put too much salt. Second try last night: Beautiful, just right. At first, not enough dill; added a little bit more, and Perfecto!!!!! The big challenge now, will be next week; Moussaka. But I will have help, an old Army buddy is coming by; he's Greek. Is that cheating? LOL!!! Cheers Akis! Have a great weekend!

Thank you!
sounds amazingly good, i need to try this
it is not greeek it is turkish . and name is cacik.
Made this today, most amazing Tzatziki i've had! I had to use Lemon Vinegar and it's a very good replacement!
Tried this ...Came out v well...Thank you.
Akis I'm your new fan. I'm writing you from Nicaragua, loved this sauce, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, I'm sending you a big hug! 🤗
The best thing about this video is the chef enjoys cooking...i mean I am smiling all through the video
Or , maybe the film was upsidedown!?
,😁
I made this recipe today and it was to die for! My husband and kids ate it all up with our gyros. Thank you!!
+vikingmetaldragon thanks bro :)
Kalimèra...Yay finally a Greek chef on UA-cam!
YES!!! The white wine vinegar makes SUCH a difference....And so many recipes do not mention it. Sas efcharistó!
I love this man’s channel ❤️
Thank you so much for putting dill in tzatziki! Some strange people (Jamie Oliver) seem to think tzatziki is made with mint. Dill is so much better! ❤
I had souvlaki for the first time studying abroad in vienna.I had a Greek friend that introduced me to it!
Thank you for the recipe, I made this and ate it with pita for a few days and around day 3 the flavors have all combined and boosted each other and this sauce is absolutely delicious 😋
Hey Akis, i‘m 17 years old and i did. the tzatziki and the pita bread today. My whole family loved it! Thank you for the recipe, it was delicious🥰
Who is this Greek Zak Efron 😆
Needless to say I subscribed
I don't know why other youtubers don't use vinegar... I allways felt that something was missing when preparing it.
I love this recipe, it's the best, I love sour foods and sauces! 😍 Greetings from Romania!🤗
You saved my life Akis 😂 I'm on a diet. Everytime I start to crave some tasty dishes I just grab some freshly chopped veggies and roasted chicken breasts dip in this Tzatziki to help.
"I'm going to begin by peeling my cucumber"...Well that escalated quickly.

😃😃😃😃😃😃
Just as he was saying this I saw your comment😂😂😂😂😂
Ben Markham 😆
I was sure, someone will write this!!! Thank you))))))
Lol
Used spanish extra virgin olive oil instead of greek... Now my kitchen is on fire
+jmiquelmb that's because you need to use the best....ITALIAN of course :)
Hi Akis. Your recipes are superb. I made Tzatziki it's delicious 😋 I even tried your Pasticcio & Lamb both delicious Thank you for sharing.
I loveeeeed the way you spoke english
His accent Is the male Greek version of Sofia’s Vergara Latin accent... 🤣🥰
The greek accent in english sounds like the spanish one 😊
🤣😂 true!!!
cause Latin comes from Greek
❤️❤️❤️😆😆😆😆😆😆
Greek and Spanish accents very similar but with some very minor differences.
Akis...have made this several times...every time it's been a winner...ty for this and ur other amazing recipes...just loving it..🙏🌺🌹
I waitressed at a “semi fine dining” Greek restaurant a few years ago and I’ve been yearning for tzatziki sauce ever since.
😂🙏🏼
Are you ok there? 😂😩
Thumbs up mate I'm heading Greece in 12 days for Christmas holidays and new year yupiiiiiii my mouth watering already waiting for great souvlaki efcharisto para poli
As a half Greek woman, I love this!!! My Yia Yia would be proud.
My Mom would make the Greek meatballs (Keftedes) and we would sometimes use the Tatziki sauce on them instead of squeezed lemons. Now I love the sauce on grilled salmon steak... especially because of the dill ingredient. Thanks Akis for another great presentation!
We did the same at home in Australia
Köfte is Turkish. Keftedes is stolen by Greeks
@@ozencgencmert The Turks and the Greeks stole it from the Persians then. Let it rest with the "stealing." Turks and Greeks are brothers, never forget how Greeks helped Turks during the earthquakes.
I was just at The Greek Island restaurant in Omaha, I love this sauce!
I spend a really really amazing week on santorini, this was my favorite appetizer ❤ with pita bread, greek people cook really good and all are very gentle ✨🙌🏻
I visited Greece, the Greek people are so nice like Italians, so beautiful place, the kebab so delicious
Thank you Akis for all your lovely recipe! Greetings from Sweden😍
Just made this exact recipe for my first time ever making Tzatziki and it was a great hit with my family. Thank you so much for such a simple and delicious recipe.
I subscribed after hearing the accent for the first 5 seconds 😆
I am happily surprised with his recipes. Great guy
Akis, such a great recipe!! I ate this delicious Tzaziki whith my mother in Santorini drinking local white wine and clapping the sunshine view... 😊❤ Love everything about Greece. This acent of yours is wonderfull for a Brazilian like me!! Tks!!
I did the sauce two times so far and I really love the freshness of it! I feel pretty much ashamed now that I bought the sauce all these years in the supermarket! 😁 Many greetings from Germany!
Too cute, love his accent and he is very handsome. Great recipes too. Love the guy.
I tried this recipe yesterday delicious love my new favorite recipe !
I'll let you know how it came out. I would never have known about squeezing the water from the cucumbers. Salut
+Whiskey River (Doc) :-)
+Akis Kitchen Well, I promised I would try to make this and let you know how it was. First try last week: Terrible!!! Hahahahahaha!!! Too much garlic I think, and yes, I put too much salt. Second try last night: Beautiful, just right. At first, not enough dill; added a little bit more, and Perfecto!!!!! The big challenge now, will be next week; Moussaka. But I will have help, an old Army buddy is coming by; he's Greek. Is that cheating? LOL!!! Cheers Akis! Have a great weekend!
This is by far my most favourite sauce in the world! Actually any sauce or dressing that involves yogurt or dill. Thank you so much for sharing it, Akis
+Pia Lorena you love Akis soo marry him -_-
HACKER NAHAS I wish I could lol
Pia Lorena

+HACKER NAHAS this escalated quickly...
