This is pretty much correct but here are some tricks: In Greece we usually put the sliced aubergines in water with salt for 30 min before frying them, otherwise they get bitter, also in some places we add a layer of courgettes, but they must tasteful, we cut potatoes slightly thicker and do not fry all vegetables completely because they will also get baked in the oven with the whole thing, we use fresh tomato in the mince meat and half a tea spoon of sugar to remove the bitterness of fresh tomato, plus some pelte, we also add a little bit more of olive oil and water so the sauce is not so dry, we don't add thyme and nutmeg in the mince meat, but 2-3 cloves which we remove when the sauce is ready, cinnamon is not preferred by many (I personally like it) but you must not add too much because it gets bitter. We often add some red wine in the sauce when it's almost ready, and instead of parmesana we add graviera or kefalograviera (saulty greek cheeses). Kali orexi!
Thank you for the tips especially about the potatoes, that is a good one people forget including me. I have also added courgettes along with aubergine and potato, and I will defo cut the veg thicker this time so there is something you can get your teeth into 😊

I think my secrets that i was told wil stay with me as i promised. Except 1 i had to dig through their garbage bags to find the secret. Boy i got chased away but i figured it out! Hehe Thanks again!
It should be Lamb and only aubergine for an authentic Greek moussaka, this beef and potato thing has only been around a few decades, though I think it tastes very good with potato slices, there is no need to fry the potato, it will make the dish to greasy, just lightly boil the slices but not so long they break down, use a good retsina or similar red wine, put more eggs in the white sauce, you want the white sauce to partly rise in the oven, it's not a Lasagne after all
Instead of frying, cook potatoes and eggplant in the in oven with some olive oil for a less greasy flavor.. I use a Greek kefalograviera instead of parm
I watched various videos about moussaka...a blend between two wide-spread dishes in Italy: parmigiana (from Naples and Sicily, consisting of cutted and fried eggplants into lateral slices with the addition of tomato sauce, grated Parmesan cheese and basil) and lasagne (from Bologna, capital city of Emilia-Romagna). Adore it 😋❤🤪 Una faccia una razza 🇮🇹❤🇬🇷 Μια φάτσα μια ράτσα 🇮🇹❤🇬🇷 One face one race 🇮🇹❤🇬🇷

Ill try baking the vegetables on baking paper with a cooking spray. I will need to omit the parmesan because i can no longer eat that much salt. Ill find a lower salt cheese, its ok i dont mind milder cheeses, i cant have everything 😊.
I will try and do it justice...enjoy
Traditionally we don't use cheese. I believe it's a modern custom. And we used to sprinkle breadcrumbs on top!
I made this moussaka today and wow, what a show stopper. I was kind of amazed I pulled it off so well.
It is a bit laborious which is why I made enough to make 3 and I froze 2. In for a penny in for a pound, eh?
The bechamel recipe given here is perfect.
Thankyou from Canada!

This looks like it turned out perfect! I love moussaka and order it at Greek restaurants but have never attempted to make it!
I've heard of it but never knew for sure what it was. It looks good!! Gonna give it a try!!
I just bake the slices of eggplant and potatoes in beef broth the night before. U can also use ground turkey if u eat less beef. Just add extra thyme or oregano for extra flavor cause beef gives more flavor. Or u can mix beef and turkey. Or add a beef bouillon to the ground turkey mixture.
Love Greek food! Thanks for sharing.
we make moussaka too in Egypt, it's like one the main dishes here. I love it
Im turkish when i preparing this in the kithen it takes some time and when my family eats it then they eat it all so this is 10 points.🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
I’m drooling...love moussaka❤️. Thank you for showing this perfect looking dish.
Omg this is making me miss my Yia Yia even more because she was one of the best cooks!!
Greek food is the best💕
YASOU, Sylvia! Yes, it is the very best and so is everything else Greek like our music, traditions, customs, hospitality . . . . . .. the list goes on !

I love eggplant so much.. and this is looks so delicious.. thanks for recipe..❤️❤️❤️
This is the authentic way of making it...delicious
Moussaka the food of the Gods💚💚💚💚💚
OMG I made this with my mom! It was amazingggg. We were busy for like 3 hours because of all the frying 😂😂 But totally worth the effort
I use 2 frying pans
I buy this every year at our Greek Festival in Fresno, Ca. That's the main reason I go.
Now I can make it myself, but there are no potatoes in theirs, maybe because of time or money they leave them out?
I have an old recipe card with Micheal Landind but that recipe has no potatoes in it. That's where I got mine from. Also the vets are baked, but frying them may give them a better taste.
I'll try this at the no of the month and let you know how it came out. I'm excited!
Thank you for sharing this with us!

@@saro2753 Hi, i plan on going to the store Tuesday to get the items i don't have,
are you using beef broth? I never know what kind of red wine to buy. Could u suggest a brand?
All your recipes are so easy to follow. Thanks for the comment, i will let you know & take pictures!
All in Love and God's Peace
Michele, 🙂
Michele Conley uhmm I use pretty much the same ingredients. I dont know what brand of wine I could suggest for u since i don't use it when cooking. Anyway I can't wait to see the results but I bet it will look and taste so good!! You seem very passionate about food yourself. Peace ♥
@@saro2753 Hi i absolutely love cooking. Ever since i was about 13, i hated my older sister's cooking so i taught reading every cook book at the library. ( this was early 80's no internet yet)
I also asked questions to the waiter about the dish and the chef would invite me into the kitchen to show me how to prepare it.
I think my secrets that i was told wil stay with me as i promised. Except 1 i had to dig through their garbage bags to find the secret. Boy i got chased away but i figured it out! Hehe
Thanks again!
It should be Lamb and only aubergine for an authentic Greek moussaka, this beef and potato thing has only been around a few decades, though I think it tastes very good with potato slices, there is no need to fry the potato, it will make the dish to greasy, just lightly boil the slices but not so long they break down, use a good retsina or similar red wine, put more eggs in the white sauce, you want the white sauce to partly rise in the oven, it's not a Lasagne after all
Thank you for sharing the recipe.....🙏❤️👍
Not only did the food look good but I enjoyed the music. I do miss going to a good Greek restaurant.
Instead of frying, cook potatoes and eggplant in the in oven with some olive oil for a less greasy flavor.. I use a Greek kefalograviera instead of parm
That was a very nice video with the tradition recipe for Greek Moussaka. Thank you.

Adore it 😋❤🤪

I LOVE MOUSSAKA YUMMY
Such a perfect video 👌🏻💖
Made this tonight and it was better than having ordered it from a Greek restaurant . Thank you for the perfect recipe!

A Gorgeous Dish
It’s a lot of work, but seems so goooooooooooooooooooooood OMG !!! 👍
It’s not a lot of work, just bake the eggplant and potato slices in a little beef broth in oven to soften a lot. Cover it. U can also use ground turkey if u eat less beef. Just add extra thyme or oregano for extra flavor cause beef gives more flavor. Or u can mix beef and turkey. Or add a beef bouillon.
So that's what I was missing from my bechamel sauce! The egg yolks! Thanks for the recipe, looks good!

@@LGAussie Thanks! I've actually made this with ground turkey.
Yes! This is real greek mousaka! Greetings from Athens!
Greetings and sincere salutations from Burkina Faso. Super recipe, many thankyous.
Hello from South Australia, I made this tonight for dinner, hubby was very impressed. It would easily make enough for 6 adults with side veges or a salad. Thank You ❤️🇦🇺🦘
Thank you, I made this today and it was absolutely delicious!! 😍
Love the music
I see what you did there. Crafty putting the eggplant also on top of the meat so you don’t accidentally get meat mixed with bechamel when you are icing it. *fist bump* he’s a smaht one he is
very smart!!!
This is the real Greek recipe, thanks. My mother, grandmother and aunts used to cook it exactly like this!
as a turk i love moussaka. i have not tried it with bechamel sauce. looks like nice touch there. I will try it. thank you.
This looks delicious! I have to make this! Thankyou!

I am truly thrilled! I cooked your recipe and it was simply fantastic. The Greek music in the video made the whole thing even more authentic. I had so much fun that I almost forgot to cook!
ГРЕКИ ВЫ ПРЕКРАСНЫ!!!!!!!!!!!! ПРЕКРАСНЫЫЫЫЫВ!!!!!!! LOVE YOU.
Now I feel like watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding and eating this.
All I could think of was, “Mouse Kaka”
Chica Arana Yes, and u have to eat it. Ha!! 🤣
i wanna make love to this mousakka. in turkey we usually make much simpler version and even that is delicious, i cant imagine how good this should taste
Being greek i can verify this is the correct recipe. There are a couple of things though that are different. We do not put garlic in mousaka, and we do not put parmesan cheese which is an italian cheese. Cheese is not necessary at all. Someone could put it as an extra. Personally i make my minced meat a little more juicy but personal taste adds to any recipe anyway!!!
A moussaka spell. A nice greeting to beautiful Greece and dear Greeks from Serbia 🇷🇸❤️🖐️
