First Time Motorcycle Camping on the Honda Transalp 750
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 жов 2023
- I'm really enjoying my new Honda Transalp 750 so far. I set out to test its all around capabilities with a three-pronged adventure. First a long ride up into some of the twistiest mountain roads in the state of Oregon for the Transalp first ride video, then on a Transalp 750 off road test on the Oregon BDR, before finally heading to Detroit Lake for my very first Honda Transalp motorcycle camping adventure.
I met up with Shawn from Veterans' Back 40 Adventure (www.vb40adv.org) for a great evening of motocamping shenanigans and laughs around the campfire. In the morning, I packed up the Transalp and headed home, another successful moto camping adventure in the books.

I just wanted to comment that I started watching your channel for your 300L and 500X reviews, then watched your other motorcycle content. I never even cast an eye towards your camping stuff until an idle moment when I had caught up on every youtuber's content I'm currently following and thought "Why not, just in the background while I eat my dinner. Dude's pretty entertaining so it won't be bad at least." It's great, honestly. From the camp set ups, to the cooking , to the atmospheric shots, to the soul baring when your on your own and the camaraderie with your pals. It's just a really nice tone, good pace, mellow, and with enough entertainment and drama among the warm comfort to keep me coming back. For a stressed, under-rested , over stimulated inhabitant of an overpopulated island this stuff is a balm for the soul. I haven't watched this video yet, I'm just commenting because it's the most recent, but I will get to it,and when I do I know I'll enjoy it. Cheers dude.
Triggering how you packed up your tent, not because I’m disgusted you didn’t fold it up neatly but because my tent won’t fit if I don’t and I’m jealous of your ability to just stuff it in the bag with reckless abandon
Keep the content coming, keep it dorky 👍🏻
Ahhh Pendleton! My favorite libation on an m/c trip, fishing, hunting, holidays...oh hell, anytime.
Dork We love Your Videos and we want them coming because You care about putting great content that very informative to the ADV community I especially like the Trans alp vids
watching one day and I thought That poor dude is a heart attack waiting, so a couple of months went by and it has bothered me as currently I cant ride as I have a lung issue that has me laid up with oxygen tanks and concentrators had I not got sick with bug from China I was going to buy a Honda Transalp 750 also my NC 700x
bike was stolen by a suspected serial killer in Oregon, I know what are the chances of that.
From Your Vids I know how much riding means to You so I would hate to see You laid up with a medical condition that could last months. Hopefully I didn't offend.
I enjoy videos that are laid-back and not go go go in a rush. RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Thanks 👍
Got to love moto camping, cheers for the upload 😎👍
Am about to pull the trigger on the Transalp after watching you and Big Rock Moto review it. You have a jump on him in being first to take it camping. A suggestion: when using a picnic bench to split wood, be sure to place the firewood over the point on the bench seat where it is bolted onto the leg supports rather than the unsupported middle section of the seat.
Man that's awesome totally what it's all about great friends great bikes just livin the dream you rock Ben👊
I'm a lucky guy
@@DorkintheRoad no you worked hard to get where your at it's inspiring

That right there is the high-quality view that brings all the ladies to the channel. 😁
Moto Camp Nerd is a really good supplier that does its research and backs up its products. Thank you for the great lead and shopping link!! I bought some packing blocks that work perfectly as bag liners for my OEM Gen 3 KLR panniers.
I agree. He's an awesome dude, too!
Love that firmcore camping bit especially ❤ Describes perfectly what I (prefer to) do 👍
That’s one of the few shoutouts I’ve seen on this channel, Tim. You owe Jennifer a nice meal somewhere you wear a shirt with a collar! Cheers!
I like Jack Palance from city slickers.
Patiently waiting for the day DorkintheRoad invites me to go motocamping with him lol.
Well now we nee "Firm Core Motorcyclist" stickers/badges! LOL And, to put my money where my mouth is, I'm off to your merch store. I appreciate the effort you put into keeping us all entertained. *edit* I tried to order some stuff from your Spring linked stuff, but it wouldn't ever give me a confirmation.
I also picked up a Transalp recently. One of the positive aspects for me compared to the Tenere or KTM is that the Transalp has better capability to carry and strap down bags, with the grab bars and rear plate part of the stock bike. Try carrying the gear you had on the stock Tenere.
Great ride, great company, great video. Less than a great cigar though
Last time I was out that way I rode out Clackamas river and route 43. It was bizarre. The whole Estacada side was burnt then the middle was the usual trees over the road stuff until just before Breietenbush where it was all torched again. Also those cheap cigars are pipe tobacco... Don't expect much and they aren't terrible.
Perfect, bad beer and bad cigars 😂
What a great trip dude. Just got my CB500X! Love the videos and the Transalp dude!
Thank you!
Great video and funny! Thanks for the moto nerd link. Was that plastic in the fire!?? 🤨
Ha! Was just there! Not bad for an organized camp. Did you hit the hippy side of the hot springs? Fun to laugh 😅at the Range Rover crowd up there from the cheap pool 😂
Up at Breitenbush? I've never actually been up there.
Looked like a great time and yep......winter is here rain and cold........... and I am old and get up at 4 every day.... body clock sucks.........
I'm usually up by 7 but somehow managed to sleep until almost 9 this day.
solid camp. i just got a kelty discovery 3. its very similar, but just one door and vestibule. Sad about the mr puff puff. i bet you dont make that mistake for a long time.
Ben, I bought the Nemo Filo from "Motocamp Nerd" Question, it looks like you use two pillows. Being a side sleeper, does this help you sleep better?
NEVER GO HARD WITHOUT PROTECTION. Ha ha ha!!! Sent you a file 🙂
Hi Tim👋
I met that dude on the ID BDR.
Try a hammock tent, it all packs tight, and on top of that you get loads more storage inside the tent.
Mentioned me? The bike? You? I'm confused, lol.
Appreciate all the Transalp content. I’m considering buying one and your videos are helping my decision!
Good job on the video mate. Luv the banter and the friendly bullshit (as we Aussies call it) between you and your mate!
I have a 2020 CB500X, and when I grow tired of it, the Transalp will be the bike for me!
PS: Was that plastic I saw burning in the fire? ... not a good thing mate ....
Hows the luggage fitting on? Still breaking in the new Transalp and researching luggage. Not sure which way to go.... Help? lol
Great vid. Are you getting hit by the arctic blast this week? We are planning a trip in Nov. It might be cold
Yeah it's getting chilly for sure
How's the Transalp comparing to your Norden?
Well have reached internet fame in the land down under. As Mark From Biker Bits has mentioned a couple times. In the last couple of his BikerBitsPodcast.
Ben, Great channel. You inspired me to get my KLX 230 and get back in the saddle. Much appreciated! What shoes is Mike wearing they look comfy. The green ones? Thanks in advance keep up the good work!
Super cool to hear you're out there riding. They're just some knock off slippers from Amazon. I forget the name.
KLX 230, nice bike. How do you like it? Dork inspired me to buy a dual sport too. I bought a 300 Rally. But I’m currently in the market for a 200, 230, or 250 as a secondary bike for a friend to ride. I’m looking for something second hand, but nice. If a KLX 230 pops up for sale in my area I will jump on it.
Dang, I miss that bar/grill that used to be across the street from there, next to the post office.
How did that awesome place burn down in 2021, but the post office is unscathed?!?
They saved what they could of the town but the fire was pretty relentless.
@DorkintheRoad that's rough. I come down to Detroit on 224 (FR46) and that only just re-opened this spring in May, nearly 2 years later. It really got hit hard.
Love your videos, but burning plastic in the campfire is not good.
Love the motor camping content and the transalp is super compelling. Trying to decide between that and an AT when I upgrade from my 500x in a year or two
So this was flaccid corps?
😎👍👍
I'm thinking about a Transalp?!? QUESTION, can one fix/ repair a tubed tire so as to get to a shop so they can replace the tube????
Just swap the tube out on the trail? Then you don't need to go to a shop. You can patch them but it's almost always easier to just replace rather than trying to find the hole, unless it's super obvious.
Thanks but at 72 years old (my days of wrenching/ "changing tires" are over) is there something like "fix-a-flat" or similar product that would work to temporarily seal the flat @@DorkintheRoad
@@MikeK6046 Here in Australia there are sealants that can be "injected" via the valve into a tube to give a temporary puncture seal. One of the better ones is called "Ride On" .
The fact that the Transalp uses tubed tires really doesn't make sense to me unless I was going to do some rally hard-core off-road riding!
If I wanted a bike, for real off-road ridding, I would be looking at other bikes.
Thank you/ much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@seanb1081
A big problem with both the Transalp and CB500x for off road is standing. When you stand on both bikes your right heal rests on top of the exhaust. I cant believe Honda didn't realize this and design the midpipe to fix this issue.
As a CB500X owner, I have zero problems standing up on my bike, and I wear size 11 boots.
Well if you stand on the balls of your feet like you should, and dont twist your ankels @@seanb1081
way out your right heal is standing on the exhaust
@@scotcook5 My heal never touches the exhaust
A possum in a ditch beats mountain house
No way your fitting in that tent Dork..
Are you suggesting I can't fit in a 2 person tent? Like I know I'm fat but I'm not that fat.
Hahahaha. I am getting close.
Hell yeah..cool trip@@markjones5235

Nice trip Dork, @@DorkintheRoad
Poor bench...
Tim is a goofball who rides a KLR. He refuses to put a milk crate on it. I have offered him several and he always declines.
Thank you for the shout out, Dork. I have been watching your content since the beginning of my riding journey. It is true, I do not have a milk crate on the back of my KLR.
Sounds like you're the smart one. Why do what everyone else does? Be original, man!
Sorry, just ended my monthly sponsorship and subscription to this channel. Been watching for over a year and initially found it helpful to my journey as a newbie into the dualsport world with the purchase of my 2022 KLR650.
But the shallowness of the perspective of the new Transalp, and another "camping" video shot in an urban paved campground with kids walking by was just too much. Was hoping that Ben would evolve as a refugee from Portland into a more serious and introspective rider who embraced the rural lifestyle and realize how shallow his previous existence was. Instead, there is even more shameless sponsor pandering and useless yuppie blather. I have bought the merch and supported the channel for over a year, yet I now just find it tiresome and offensive. Good luck.
Yeah I'm sorry the Transalp stuff has been so "shallow." I had the bike 3 days when I shot this.
There's all types of camping, my man. Hitting up a campground once in a while doesn't erase my experiences on the BDRs or dispersed camping elsewhere. Neither does supporting a friend's business that also happens to be super relevant to (most of) my audience.
BUT if you've learned all there is to learn from me and have "evolved" past what I do, well more power to you. Good luck finding the super pretentious and introspective channel of your dreams. I'll just keep having fun doing what I do, which is what I've done all along.
Oh man teriyaki restaurants that’s such a thing in Washington state it’s not really a thing in Canada here?!? I worked for a few years in Washington and saw them daily wondering wtf - some rando teriyaki restaurant (whatever that is) in the middle of some small nowhere town. 🤨🤷🏻♂️ how do you spell money laundering? Lol
