Snow Riding and Winter Motorcycle Camping on the Honda CRF300L Rally

- I wanted to get out on one more winter motorcycle camping trip before spring hit, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to test out my new Honda CRF300L Rally in the snow along the way. This is my first Honda CRF300L motorcycle camping trip and the little dual sport performed amazingly, even fully loaded with motorcycle camping gear.
After getting in some Honda CRF300L Rally snow riding, I headed to a secluded camping spot I know for my last winter motocamping trip of the year. After setting up camp, I gathered and processed firewood before starting a fire and awaiting the arrival of Tim, who was also moto camping on his DRZ400. Tim is the master of motorcycle camping cooking and whipped up some delicious looking steak sandwiches over the campfire.
In the morning, we sadly had to pack up our motocamping gear and head out, but not before Tim's DRZ400SM left him stranded and we had to push it to the top of the hill to bump start it on the way back down.
All in all, just another typical winter camping trip on motorcycles!

Haha, you rock dude
Joe we better be getting some motocamp vids man! Your area is perfect for it! Take care.
Thanks for watching!
My favourite type of video - riding and camping. I like when you include the camp setup, wood gathering, etc.
Glad you enjoyed it
Tim shows up “conveniently” right after the wood is processed and fire is built 😂
lol, no kidding.
And then eats both steak sandos😂
And the beer run complete!
As the Dork says in another video, "he's the designated fireman".
I didn't think another living person knew the star trekking song..... You sir are a Dork of the highest caliber!
I didn't think another living person would get that reference. Well played, sir.
I thoroughly enjoy watching these camping videos. Just to let you know you have helped inspire me to get back into the moto camping thing. Thank you for the inspiration.
I thoroughly enjoy watching Dork gather wood. Riding to camp is funny.
A guy can have a bad weekend, tune in Monday morning and watch a Dork vid, and everything is perfect balance again! Entertaining video Ben. So many one-liners that cracked me up. "Always put your beer on the non-exhaust side, ask me how I know."
I need to ride down and winter camp with you guys. That "Grill" Tim brought looks suspect. I think I would lose my cool and lob it far away. 😅😄
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
As someone who wears hi-viz stuff, I can confirm I would probably think about watching your stuff for you long before taking it. Might even make a friend when you showed up.
I've got to quit watching these when I'm hungry. That steak sandwich, oh my.
His meal was next level! The dogs looked good but not even close.
Tim doesn't mess around.
I love motorcycle channels but yours if the only one where I actually feel so much better after watching your videos. Motorcycles, camping, adventure! And a PMA! Thank you!
Thumbs up for Timbo's sandwich
1) I hit the like button before Dork got back to camp so his gear would still be there.
2) I really like Dead Guy from the Rogue variety pack at the Eugene Costco. I urge Rogue to continue selling through them.
Giant Loop makes some of the best motorcycle beer coolers ever
Agreed. Guys in Hi-Viz moto gear don't steal. Scientifically proven fact! 😆
Mark Twain said if you cut your own fire wood it will warm you twice... :)
Hey, I bought a Transalp because of your videos! Buuuut......it was totaled in a few short months. 4,600 miles to CA from RI, hit and run in an intersection the day after I got there. I know you like Pro Tips, so here is one for you (unless someone has said it already lol) When you are sawing fire wood, hang the size you want to cut over the support log and saw that off. It opens the cut vs pinching your blade potentially adding friction or pinching it.
The absolute best CRF300L Rally channel out there!
Tim’s steak sandwich looked great!
😂 lol. I spit my coffee all over when you hit that branch for the second time.
At least I'm consistent ;)

Going to start a fundraiser to buy Tim a new grill!!!
Been watching Joe for years, super cool he reached out to you. He's definitely been enjoying powersports more and more the past few years. And that little grill Tim brought is a hilarious thing. I watched a pile of reviews before buying one years ago and thought there has to be a reason everyone looks like the black and white f-up scenes in infomercials while trying to assemble it. Finally someone flashed the instructions infront of the camera for 1 second then through them on the table and proceeded to film his struggle for 5 minutes. Step 1 explained everything you need to know. Thread the outer rods in one turn. Then lay the crossbars in. Then tighten threaded bars. It's hilariously simple and easy when you follow the three infographics. Anyways, loved the video and I'm glad you decided to keep doing motocamp vids despite the numbers.
Love the Rogue Brewery and the beer !
Bruce Campbell was your #2 "OMG Really" guy?! Awesome.
I saw CONGO in theatre. Saw his name in the credits (excited) and then immediately died with his signature scream (shouldaknown!)
Dude...this looks so much fun...
Should have a disclaimer: do not watch before going to bed. Now I am starving and resisting wanting to make a sandwich lol
Classic Dork camping, I love it! By God Tim cooks the best meals!
Hello Ben really liked the ride to the camp.Your area is spectacular. You and Tim are hilarious together luv the vid made my day much more enjoyable thank you for your efforts. 😊
Thanks for watching!
You sonofa.... Now I got Star Trekkin stuck in my head. Gosh darn it...
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, honestly youve inspired me. I go out camping on my bike nearly every weekend, rain or shine.
Thanks so much man.
Holy crap I thought for sure nobody would get that reference. Impressive...most impressive...
Just watch out for the hairy man. Lucky you put tent up before Stubbys that Ausie's for beers. soon you will have a new language to use. Good footage with snow and riding and you still get the bushes on the side of the road. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Internet riding mate.
👍 I do want a bite of Tim's sandwich. 🤤
“It’s a scientifically proven fact people who wear high visibility vests don’t steal from campsites” 😂😂😂
I spit out my drink
The quality of your camera in camp is amazing. I wish the action camera was similar. The adventure getting there is my favorite second favorite part of the episodes. I'm also very much enjoying the CRF300L content. Great stuff.
I only contemplated flying eyes for replacing my prescription glasses. Your channel is great, keep doing what you're doing.
My bros and I are doing a BDR this year, partially due to your videos and channel. I've used your channel content in helping me pick my gear and bike. I haven't picked up a KTM 790 adventure, but that's the bike I want to get. But don't tell my current bike, as I've put a lot farkles on Papa Smurf to date.
Really enjoy your videos Dude. I live in Australia (Sydney NSW) have been riding a road bike (Triumph Bonneville T120) for the past 7 years and seriously thinking of making the leap to an ADV bike (probably a Tiger 900 Rally Pro). its taken me over 20 years to realise how much I have yet to discover with the bush which is literallyunder 45 minutes from where I live. Thanks bro, just keep on doing what you are doing! Christian
Glad your are ok. A small air compressor gives you much more flexibility as you need air to fix flats as well.
Suggestion on the fire wood. What I do is drag a log and set it over the fire and let the fire do the splitting. Ones it burns through the middle you now have 2 logs that you can throw on the middle. Save some time and effort. Digging your videos! Just bought my first ADV bike. KLX 450R

Tenere 700 (current)
Love that you mentioned bruce campbell
Ben! You have the uncanny ability to turn the somewhat ordinary into the extraordinary!! Thank you! Keep it up…please!
Not gonna lie, steak sandwich looked amazing!
Him sucking that snot rocket back in absolutely murdered me 💀💀💀
Snow = No mosquitos !
As someone who uses the same grill as Tim three times or so a year, I have to re-learn how to assemble it every single time. That being said, the pack down size can't be beaten. You could stow it in the prison pocket if you're brave enough!
So, this is like the 50th video of yours that I've watched, and I hope you are getting paid, cause they're awesome!!
More camping videos please! These are fantastic!
Hi Ben I just want to tell you this in case you have not seen it yet. MAD TV just put out a review today of the CRF300L Rally and so did Ian. Ian mentioned you in his video. MAD TV review is on a totally moded out bike and Ian's was mostly stock. Both vids where very good. I watched the interview of you with Renegade Revaluation today and that was very good also. I am not sure why camping video's don't do as well as other video's but I like them. They are fun.
You're the best camping buddy get there early get all the wood in are you cooking tonight too? You should play the music to 2001 when you get that fire going like when they discovered fire.
It is so awesome having someone to do this stuff with. I live north of Portland and may try to find peeps to do this with down south. Great video!
For the same reasons people love your videos, I kinda hate watch them. I haven't gotten a chance to go out this year and wont for another month or so. I do one long distance moto camping trip every year. Just makes me REALLY want to go now lol.
🏍🏕🥩🍺....... Absolutely!
I still think you should do a motocamping on budget series where you test budget gear to see what is worth spending the extra cash on and what is not.
Much awesomeness to be had here! Great vid.
In flatland Chicago I don’t need to worry too much about downhill brake fade. Hopefully one day will move to the Carolinas where it’s more of a concern.
Makes me almost....almost miss being out in the pnw...almost. I don't miss the snow😜
It's a good thing I hit the "Like Button" when I did! You are welcome!
"All I will think about till I get back". Boy isn't that relatable...
This was fun to watch! Thanks for sharing.
I figured you would get revenge on that limb with your saw.
makes me want to camp!
That bike looks on the small side for you. Love the videos, Dork 👍
Well, yeah.
step two! my man steve
You guilted me into hitting the like button… I sure am hoping that your stuff wasn’t stolen! In all seriousness, I think it’s all of our biggest fear when leaving our campsite that our stuff will be stolen while we are gone. Okay unpausing to see what happens!
The way you slap those logs!!! 😂 Talk about a Kong fu fighter!!!!
Good to hear that you got a inquiry from Joe, and also good to hear that he's looking at bikes.
I was laughing so hard at Tim's "accordion grill"! Lol Great episode.
I'm so glad he brought it!
I love the trash talk. Need to say Timmaaaa like south park
Oh that comes out a lot when we're camping.
Love the "Whovian" reference. Keep riding strong
Meanwhile, Itchy Boots almost strands herself in the Mauritanian Sahara. Nice contrast of 300L performances today!
Good job.
Looks like a kickstarter is needed to be fitted mate , in Australia it’s a little flat in the desert
Superb Sunday evening viewing…thanks Ben.😊😊😊
Well i did hit it on time.. your welcome.. great vids btw..
Tims DRZ not starting is literally the exact reason why I sold my fully farkled 2021 DRZ. That bike is an absolute headache and they need to hurry up and bring out an EFI Six Speed DRZ400..
I really like the format of your videos, Ben. This is how I see myself spending my free time.
Just a small remark from my end, don't take it as hate or so, but the audio and the video quality of your helmet setup is not great... This is my honest opinion, I am not trying to complain.
In 2023 the audience is picky when it comes to picture quality and sound quality, I watched one of your last videos where you were speaking about the different action cameras you've tried, but to be honest GoPro with Media mount and ext. microphone seems best at least for me. And you already purchased all the annoying gadgets to connect the ext. mic, so...
Drive safe !
You're not telling me anything I don't already know. The GoPro is fine when it works, but I'd rather have slightly crappier audio than no audio, which happens WAY too often with the GoPro.
How many more trips until we have a compilation video of Tim's bike not starting?
Done some moto camping, not a fan. But what I do like is camping with while trailering the bikes. We can have a few more creature comforts, and it cuts out a lot of pavement pounding. We have a Dewalt chainsaw that we bring. It's awesome for cutting firewood and way more quiet than a traditional gas saw.
I saved some cash using your promo code with Moto Camp Nerd! Thank you! Your content is very helpful considering my husband and I will be doing some motorcycle camping with our golden doodle so we need all the help we can get just to get started. I'm binge watching everything to do with motorcycle camping. And binge spending :(
Tim is a chef…come on Ben, show us you can be a chef too….Cheers 😅😂😂😂
That sounds like a lot of work
@@DorkintheRoad I confirm but make us dream 😂😂😂
Awesome vid bud. Love watching this type of video from up here in Vancouver Canada. This is the type of video you are so good at! You have inspired me to get out and camp on my F800GSA that has served only as my commuting partner for the last 4 years eh! Amen brother.
wishing the mountains here in CO were that clear, jealous want to get back out for moto camping. everything off the pavement here is ice sheets or feet deep snow still.
1. That's a different tent! I guess I missed a video.
2. Gather free snow instead of buying ice? You do you.
3. Tim really does frame well!
4. That fucking quadruple-A joke. Imma steal that.
5. Thanks again for these videos. They help me plan. I have a Himalayan and want to get into this. Be well!
Yeah I only bought ice because I was at the store anyway. I definitely should have thought of the snow thing. It would have made for better video!
@@DorkintheRoad Next time, if it's still there. I thought about packing really tight snowballs so it'd last longer. I'll use this if I'm ever in that sitch, but I wouldna thought of it without seeing the vid, so thanks again.
I’ve got that same BA chair. I couldn’t take crawling out of my low-boy anymore. So far, it’s a great chair!
Joe Ro is the man.
I DO want a bite of Tim's steak sandwich. I sure hope he gave you some.
I like the longer video format!! Can’t wait to start camping season here too😊
EXCELLENT!!!
I like these camping vids and love how much longer it is. You get much more coolness into them.
Another solid trip.
Great video, thanks for sharing your adventures!
I’m really enjoying these long format vids. Keep up the good work
Geez what an adventure looks so fun. Can't wait for warmer weather though.
Dude, u r motivating me to do a bit more moto camping in the future. Good stuff!
Another great video!
Excellent! 👍✌
Love this guy! Not as much as Tim, but pretty close.
We all know Tim is the real star of the show.
Fantastic video. I love Roogue beer, thanks for reminding me about them, been stuck on Stone and Dogfishead for a while. I'm in the market for an upgrade from my RE Himalayan and want a Honda. 250 or 300 Rally.
That was so freaking awesome it's totally how I camp you da man Ben👊 glad to see all you stuff was still there. Thanks for the great content
Thanks for watching!
Your channel has been such a great resource in getting into adventure/enduro/dual sport riding. I have spent a long time on only pavement and its great to see someone humble explain things so i dont feel like a giant dumb dumb. Keep it up!
Side note: You gonna be at the Odessa Desert 100 in Washington this weekend? I am going to ride the dual sport section and would love to buy you a beer if you are around!
Is that the Diablo tank bag with the new logo?
Also, loved the processing of firewood. The snaps and cracks were very satisfying, but you killed with with "the one advantage" part. I too have that advantage!
Yeah you can get the black Diablo with the new logo on the website now
@@DorkintheRoad Next paycheck that's the plan! On the GL website I don't see it as an option, so is it just automatic when you buy the black tank bag?
You are big time, Dork. Of course people are reaching out. You are either a genius level fraud or a genuine human that people are drawn to. I’m going with the latter. Thanks for the fun vid. Still not ready to get out up here in Alberta.
"Genius-level fraud" is giving me WAY too much credit. ;)
Agreed on IPA, a bit bitter and chewy for my tastes.
Morgan Freeman here. You need to reposition the wood or move the rock you're cutting on so the piece you want falls away from the cut instead of pinching the blade. I learned that researching a part for my next movie where I play a lumberjack 👍🏾
That sounds like a lot of planning and forethought. Why do all that when I can just struggle and hate my life the whole time?
@@DorkintheRoad you sir are living the dream! 🙌
