Happy new year everyone! Do you wanna see more digital art videos?👀❤️
Happy New Year, Temi! And yes, of course!
It’s 11:00 pm for me!
YES PLEASE!
Omg! Love u! Also, happy new year Dhritis doodle dreamwork!
Happy new year Temi! We'd love to see more please
As an artist that does mainly digital art, I will say that the main thing that makes it more... difficult... would be getting used to the digital tools themselves. adjusting how you coordinate your hands, the amount of pressure you use when drawing/shading, and for someone like me who uses a laptop + graphics tablet rather than an iPad, you have to train yourself to be efficient with keyboard shortcuts to switch between tools.
However, once you get through that learning curve, digital art makes artmaking so much more EFFICIENT! I prefer the word efficient rather than “easy” because easy implies that you need less skill to make art digitally. However any professional artist who does digital illustrations, or concept art for movies and video games will tell you that digital shortcuts and tools can only take you so far. You still need to have good understanding of proportions, values, and other traditional art skills in order to make a good digital portrait for example. But digital art does make things so much more efficient. Perspective drawing for example, is made so much easier with digital tools. There’s the glorified undo button we all know, and color picking! I’m not offended when people say digital art is “easy”, but rather Im afraid that new artists will be misleaded into thinking the computer or tablet does all the work for you. You still need a solid understanding of traditional drawing and artmaking skills if you want to be good at digital art! I still make sure to draw traditionally from time to time for practice :)
Love this.
Agree. Well said 👍🏾
So true.
Efficient is such an appropriate word here.
❣️
Honestly on the whole 'digital is easier or cheating' thing I think digital is more efficient. Not necessarily easy because easy means you need less skill ( and trust me blending gets very hard very quick even on digital) but efficient. This is coming from someone who does both traditional (painting) and digital
THIS
I do think digital art does have it’s advantages such as being able to use any colour, layers, undo ect. Though for me traditional is still easier
Exactly!
I can draw sketches (irl) and digital art too
"more efficient" that's it. That's the correct phrase to use. I really hate the whole "digital art is easier" thing just coz you have all your tools on a device. Just bcoz it's convenient doesn't mean it's easy
@@emiroy710 yeah
Yes, there is a way to select Color’s with a pencil. You go to the wrench button on the left, then prefs, then gesture controls, then eye dropper, and you can choose which action you want to preform to pull it up. Hope this helps!
I recently learned how to do that and it’s probably MUCH easier if you have a long/fake nails.
I can't remember if I had to program this in, or if it was a default action, but mine is set up so that when you tap the little square between the size/opacity sliders on the left, it pulls up the eyedropper tool, and it's SUPER handy! I think you can also long hold the pencil to do the same but I might also have had to map that in!
@@NakiaPickering yeah you can do it with the square thing. I prefer the finger hold. I don’t honk you can long hold the pencil, but you can set it to double tap.
You can also go to the little square between the opacity and size toggles and drag around the little colour dropper it is much easier
Omg! Ty! I’ve been wondering and looking for a video like this for so long!
Digital art is easier in the sense that you get the convenience of separate layers, but it's much harder in the sense that you have to relearn certain skills all over and it's harder to achieve textures. (At least for me. Texture is so intuitive and fun with traditional art but whenever I try to achieve certain textures digitally I STRUGGLE 😭)
texture is so hard😭. I've recently been painting traditionally and it's so much easier to get texture like wtf
Brush dont work the same in real life HAHA
Facts!
I thought I was the only one..
@@hi-rw4nl It's so hard too but it's not hard to me drawing digitaly since I redrawing my art in all layers sorting correctly
Digital art is like learning a whole new skill, I still sometimes struggle when doing digital art.
Same, I can draw way better traditional
With me I struggle with both,I shade better with digital and I draw smoother with digital, but with traditional I draw faster and get my proportions a bit. Better
That's the main reason why I got an iPad and an Apple pencil. Trying to use one of those drawing tablets on my PC proved to be a pain in the ass for me
@@esmooth919 I also use the same combo, mostly for scrolling through yt tho haha

As a digital artist since 2007, as the years have gone by I have a greater appreciation for traditional art. Because of you I have decided to invest in some budget materials and get back to sketching, colouring, painting. I wouldn't tell anyone to rule out digital, but don't lose yourself to it.
Unfortunately it's hard not to lose yourself to it, especially if you're an art student.
I'm in my junior year and I'm a 3D arts major, not even an illustrator or painter, and they're all but demanding students learn digital art since it's the new industry standard just bc it's efficient and convenient.
It sucks! Really badly!!
As someone who does both digital and traditional art, well done! I know it’s really hard (and kinda nerve-wracking) to move out of your comfort zone, especially into a new medium, and I think you did really well!
Agreed
There is an artist here on youtube called "Billy not Bully". He does realistic portraits, and posts the timelapse in his channel. It might be helpful to you, to know his process, techniques, brushes and all. He also uses procreate. Good luck on your journey to learn digital medium!
This is making me sad I didn’t have procreate when I started out with digital lol
I recently tried it on a friends iPad and the interface and tools are so smooth that it makes things so much more approachable, and it’s great! I made the mistake of starting to learn digital on a full drawing program (think Krita, photoshop, etc.) and oh my gosh it was overwhelming. I did end up figuring it out but it didn’t have a lot of good brushes so I had to figure out how to make them and then figure out lighting and oh man what a learning curve.
Lol yep, I've been doing digital art since 2003.... imagine what I've had to deal with lol! You kids are very lucky these days.
@@dreamrabbits5072 dang that sounds even more challenging! It’s pretty cool how far programs have developed
I started digital art before doing traditional art and it is frustrating, there are pros and cons on both. It's just sometimes frustrating cause my digital art is infinitely better than my trad, and I want to improve on both, without having one stagnant.
@@dreamrabbits5072 2003 was the era where us 'non-tablet' kids use mouse lol
I started on MediBang Paint on my computer. It wasn’t terrible, but once I got my iPad I fell in love with digital art. It’s so much more natural to be able to draw on the screen and not be chained to my computer. Now I can’t believe there was ever a time when I hated digital art.
I do both, usually traditional because I’m not always able to use my iPad. Traditional is a great feel, and digital is definitely different. I had a hard time getting started with digital, but I found the benefits really nice, and I use digital for planning/putting things down. Nice digital painting tho 😁👍
I switch between the 2. Since I started graphic design I physically draw instead because I'm always at a screen doing graphics and I get so bored of it now 😅
@@kparkiart5067 ooo graphic design! I can relate at getting bored tho 😂
I think it honestly depends on what you're talking about. Because let's say with rough sketches I think digital is easier than traditional because you can erase as much as you want without ruining it because you can use more layers, and with layers you also cant ruin the coloring but if it was traditional, chances are the entire drawing is ruined. So honestly there are pros and cons to both😅
lettering is so fun and easy to do digitally because you get a new dimension of control over the brush, it’s amazing
One thing about traditional artists moving to digital is how they treat digital art exactly how they do traditional. It’s not the same and you need to treat it like a new medium. When doing digital realism, it’s best to use digital painting. When drawing with pencil crayons, markers, or pastels this would be how you do it but it doesn’t come out too well when you apply the same logic to digital. In digital you want to be using lots of base colors, so colluding the entire hand first and painting the darkest areas. Then you can make a new layer above your sketch/lineart and render the drawing and all the details.
Digital art is definitely one of the highest things on my 'to improve' list for 2022 🥰
Oooo good luck with that!
You did soooo good !! the first time I tried it I drew a “person “ was kinda scary looking 💀 great job tho !❤️❤️❤️
😂😂😂 thank you!
I drew a realistic person too but I absolutely did not know anything about layers and all that. In the end, it still came out good tho
I'm a traditional artist but I had to go digital for my webtoon, and my GAWD!
It was waaayyyy harder than I thought 😭✋
ugh ur accent is EVERYTHINGGG
Ooo 💕digital art is definitely a different medium I think traditional and digital are very different!! I think personally they both have there difficulty’s I don’t think neither of them are easier depends on how you approach it✨
yessss. people keep calling "cheating", and act they could do the same, until they realise is a whole different medium, and that they will have to start a new journey to learn digital art.
@Lupa yea true
Digital art is not easy, but makes the process easier
@@jaydthatsme yeah, and faster
I agree, I do both digital and traditional, doing texture during digital is hard, but also doing shading with traditional has its difficulties.
i can't live without my ctrl + z. with that said, i think both traditional and digital art have their own strengths and weaknesses and struggles! glad to see you gave digital and try, and hopefully we can see more beautiful pieces as you master the art! ♡ ♡
Tomorrow is the new year, the next level to put your art skills to the test on your new iPad. You can do this, Temi.🎉🎈
Yesss I’m so excited to practice!
Hi
Art with Flo and Tatyworks have taught me everything I know about Procreate! I'm still pretty new to it but their tutorials are basic enough that it helped me get acquainted with how the program works.
I know you’re going to master this Temi! Can’t wait for the tutorials! Also have a wonderful and prosperous New Year!
I love that you’re another popular Nigerian artist I can watch and be inspired by!!! You don’t understand how much it means for me to see u!!! Representation is everything!!!!
I normally stick to digital art (sometimes I use paint or pencil crayons but i like digital) so seeing one of my favorite artists and my role model attempt my favorite media really made me feel inspired. 😀
such a professional feel!!
Oh yesss, I’ve been waiting for this for so longg! I’m a digital artist, and sometimes I use your videos to help me out, so I’m really happy that you gave digital a try.
By the way, if you press the square between the size of your brush and the opacity, you get the quick menu, and if you hold one of them, you get different options to select from. Cya
I could see Temi making her original character and then an original series/backstory with her characters. I’m so excited for anything. You got this Temi ❤️ and also Happy New Years. Wishing you more success, blessings, health and happiness!
As a mainly digital but also traditional artist this was very interesting, I definitely struggled at first and still find new stuff about procreate but you did really well! A general thing that I like more with digital art is stream line. My shakey hands praise stream line. Also, if you go to the wand thing, you can easily blend and stuff with just a push, it’s my holy grail
So basically, you can use the square on the left hand side of your screen (where the size and opacity is) and then it will enable you to use the pen and drag the little circle thing that comes up so that you can use the same colour as your reference. One you press the button you will understand (you can use the pen to press the button). Anyways, that is an absolutely AMAZING piece for your first time drawing digitally!!
Something very cool about procreate is the replay of your entire process! You can even save it and post it, and I think that would be super super cool to see on your channel!!
I by no means think that digital art is cheating, I think it has a higher skill cap. When you get to a certain level in traditional art it may be harder to improve the. In digital art. This isn’t saying that traditional artists are worse, some of there work is mind blowing and beautiful, but the limit to what they can do is smaller the what digital artists can do. Personally I think there is something special about both of them, I love traditional and digital art, it’s both amazing!
I've been stalking your channel for this video even though I had the bell on because I was so excited. 😂 I just started with procreate and digital art about a week ago. I think it's both easier and harder than traditional. Of course there's the learning curve, but I also found it really hard to decide when my piece was finished. A piece I would've normally finished in 2 hours took so much longer because I could redo and tweak it literally forever. 😂 But I also love, and got caught up in, how much more free I felt to experiment and make mistakes. All you have to do is undo or experiment on a separate layer and delete the layer if it fails. Love that freedom!
But it's no surprise that your first pice came out so good! Please do more!!
yessss you still did so well I can not wait to see what beautiful masterpieces you make in the future
What a great video! I exclusively use digital art/procreate, but you’re one of the only traditional artists I follow on UA-cam, so it was great to see you enter my world 😂 I hope you’ll try more, even if it doesn’t become your main medium. Have a happy new year!
Thank you so much!
not just traditional artist but as for me who's done digital arts since 3/4 years ago and just got iPad Pro and using pro create, I need to re-learn the stuffs that's there since I usually used ibisPaint. it's hard and confusing but it's interesting and fun to learn how to draw and use the app even though it feels weird most of the times. tbh when I first used digital art back then it was an interesting thing to do with the features they have. anyways, good drawing and love it. keep it up! hope you'll get use to digital cause it's a big change from traditional to digital (that's how I feel)
Oooooo something different!!! I'm excited!!! This vid CLEARLY shows how amazingly good you are at art 🎨😍👏
I loved this video because exactly how you reacted and experienced your iPad and Procreate is almost exactly how I did lol. I also grew up as a traditional artist and you are completely right on how things like colors and blending making the process so much faster.
Yess! I also have that same iPad! And the Apple Pencil is a must if u use it to take notes or art!! You did so well especially for your first time, love you temi also happy New Years!
Wow, that turned out pretty good! Nice work, temi!
Omg it has happened.....her struggling with digital art gives me memories of my past experiences with digital art 💀
The video we've ALL been waiting for. Love your videos and art Temi
Wow this video was so fun and interesting!! I can't wait for more videos from you Temi!!! I don't think you understand this but YOU ARE THE BEST ARTIST EVER!! You actually give helpful videos! we love you so much 💞
My hands have gained the strength and flexibility for transitional art, digital art you don’t need any of that. That’s why it’s so hard😭
I'm the complete opposite. After doing digital art for 15 years... I'm done with it. I can't stand it anymore. About 6 years ago I realized I love working with my hands, I got into clay and heavily into crafts. But I'm an artist at heart, so I'm going traditional now (painting, pencils, pastels etc). Whenever I do traditional art it's just so much faster for me because it's so much simpler and I can't just undo and re-do things over and over, I'm less of a perfectionist. I've always hand drawn my digital art sketches and scanned them in, I always preferred working in pencil and paper and then colouring and rendering on photoshop (I did it with a mouse for a decade!). I just couldn't afford traditional supplies, we didn't have cheap dollar store stuff back when I was a teenager and I never had money as a teen, I didn't even know anything about art supplies at the time. I always had a liking for digital art since I was a young kid, I would draw in paint and do pixel art because that was all that was available to me, my parents refused to buy me any real art supplies, all I had was pencils, and crayola and crafts. I was always a computer geek. And I mean a real desktop computer, I'm still using one now... I'm old school but I am in my 30's so, oh well..god time goes fast!
It’s hard tbh but as u start to use it more it gets easier, as a artist too I was not used to this digital art I use sketch books, but you can do it! Keep the good work up!
We NEED more digital art from Temi! I just got a drawing tablet, and I think it would be SO cool to see her make animations!
Edit: The queen noticed me!
Ooooo yessss 👀👀👀👀
what tablet did you get? and how much did it cost?
I’m more a digital artist but I tried traditional art again and I seem better at it then digital art- like whaaaa?!
As an artist that has recently gotten into digital art. I often find myself looking for some control z or double tap to undo my mistake while I am painting or drawing in my sketchbook. But I enjoy both digital and traditional and I think that your art is spectacular!
if u wanna blend the colours u must use the button that has a pointing hand beside the layer or colour button ^^
If you go into the “canvas” section you can flip on the setting called ‘reference’ to either display the whole drawing or you can display the reference that you used from ur Pinterest board :>
Thought Id bring it up cause its one of my favorite tools in procreate, the piece came out great! Its awesome!!
I've had people look at my artwork and then say to my face they don't consider it art because it's done digitally. I do the exact same thing with a paint marker and spray can. The only difference for me is I can do digital art anywhere. It's not easier apart from the undo button. It's just a different tool. If you're a shit artists you're gonna be shit whether you use traditional tools or digital.
I have had my iPad for over 3 years. The idea of getting procreate has me in a room screaming. I don’t know why. Maybe the bubble thing you went through. Maybe the 3 days it took for you to come back to it. Maybe sitting through a tutorial to learn how to use it. Maybe it’s all of those things. I definitely could relate.
the reason the iphones dont come with plugs is so the box is smaller so they are able to ship more iphones in one batch at a time making it much more cost affective
I tried digital art but i prefer traditional! Im not sure why but i do lol. There are some things i miss about digital art, like the undo button or many colors for every brush and the blur button lol.
the sound you made when the whole screen came off 😭😭
I definitely think that digital art is easier. Not easy, but easier. Which makes sense. Digital art was designed to give more options so that art can be easier. If digital art was harder than traditional art it wouldn’t be used nearly as much as it is now, especially not in professional settings 😅
But don’t be mistaken, digital art is still really tough lol 💜
I appreciate this comment. I'm mostly a digital artist and a lot of people have told me that digital art isn't hard at all and that it's cheating. Digital art is still art and it still requires skill, but I can admit that is easier in certain aspects.
I'd say digital art is easier to pick up as a medium, but harder to master
I cannot wait to see all your digital art! Eeeeee so exciting!
her: cant colour within the lines
digital artist: neither can we lmao

Temi: "Let's begin with something easy. Let's begin with hands"
😂😂😂😂😂
Recently started digital drawing and oh my gosh I completely understand why there's some tension between digital artist and traditional. I feel like I'm cheating while drawing 😅, the stabilizer, layers, extreme zoom in, etc. It's amazing but so confusing to me. Definitely prefer traditional. Love the way a real pencil feels and how the art looks.
If you press the square on the left side (in between the sliders), then you select your colour with an Apple Pencil [: it is tedious but it does help
beautiful job!! personally digital is too hard and inaccessible/pricy for me but i still have to learn eventually bc school + potential jobs demand it. i’ve (somehow ) passed the requisite beginning classes, but i’m terrified at the idea of the advanced ones bc what chance do i have when all my digital work looks like someone let a 5 year old loose in ms paint 😭
It’s my first time doing digital art your so much better than me :)
Been waiting for this video! I do dig art and I know it’s hard, but GURLLLLL… GUURRRL! It looks so freaking GOOD!
ive been waiting for thiss so glad you posted lmaoo always at the right time i wanted to try digital art..love you temi!
I feel the pain of the screen protector- I tried to apply one last night and it didn’t go well-
HELLO! I love your channel another way you can color select with your Apple Pencil is by going all the way to the left of your screen under neath what makes the brushes bigger is a square click and hold it and you good to go!
BRUH- THATS why you think digital art is cheating/easier, you’re using it as a tracing tool.
Nah nah nah- legally it IS cheating. You trace someone photo like this and sell it, they can sue you and will win. The feature exists for “sampling” as it works in music. Not tracing an entire composition.
I did this nonsense my first year in art school. The instructor sat me down and explained “fair use” and copyright to me and how it relates to art. The explained that using a crutch like this would harm my artistic progression as well as establish a reputation for “biting” other artists compositions or public domain images.
I thought I should try digital art 2 years ago I was doing it on a small Wacom then I forgot about my Wacom and digital art and went back to traditional then I tried ibispaint on my phone it was so hard I gave up but when I got my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil I was hooked with digital art and now I think it’s easier to do digital art after I got good at it but it is only “easy” if you have experience with digital by doing it a lot.
And experience with traditional art
can you try ai art?
Yes, you can color select with an Apple Pencil! I have iPad Air and the Apple Pencil 2nd gen but for me I just hold down for long enough for it to color select? Maybe check your pen settings!
"You know what? I don't care." LOL I feel the struggle of screen protectors.💀
Awesome 👏 congrats on getting into digital art! I think digital art can be easy but creating original art will always come down to creativity. I try to look at digital art as just another set of tools. Keep up the great content!
3 years in from traditional mixed media art , you’ve got this ☺️ let it grow ✨
This is why she’s my favorite art youtuber 🤩
I’m debating on getting an iPad for digital art (coming from pencil and paper) so I would totally love a video of you circling back to give more of your thoughts on digital art and how you’re liking the iPad!!
Girl, I really admire you for drawing with long ass nails like that! I bought the same iPad recently (not arrived yet), so thank you for the video.
How did I just found you now and not way before!? I've been watching some of your videos after they came up as recommended and I totally love your channel! Wow! Think I found another favorite art UA-camr
This was really useful ✨
The reason why it keeps switching from the brush to the eraser or the other way around is because with the new Apple Pencil if you double tap it it will switch between the 2. That’s the reason you can change that in settings if you don’t like that.
Temi it’s actually spooky how relevant this video is to me right now what timing😯 I’ve just decided I’m getting an iPad with textured protector for my birthday and then you come out with this!
8:32 : the little square on the side is actually the colour select tool! You can use that too.
You can color select by clicking the square with the Apple Pencil on the left side where the brush size and opacity is.
I’m sorry, but I had a good cackle when you took the whole screen protector off by accident 😂😭
I was so excited for this video!! 😁😁 I love how you drew the nails from the picture.
Hiii! There’s a SUPER easy and quick at to select a color: so you have the part on the left were you can select the thickness of the brush and stuff, the little cube in the middel if you click on it you get a circle this and you can just move it to the color you want and then you have it :)
You are literally so funny ✋🏻😭 I love you already 🤍
hi here is some basic things to know about an iPad and procreate!
undo-2 finger tap on screen
redo-3 finger tap on screen
full screen-4 finger tap on screen
switch from eraser to brush and vice versa- double tap pencil
eyedropper- hold finger on colour
Digital art isn’t easy it’s just easier and simpler not to draw but to get the pens because you don’t have to purchase anything it’s just more “efficient”😊
I would highly recommend Art with Flo's tutorials. They're relatively short and they teach a lot of techniques and tricks.
Uhh I’m like a week late so here’s a bunch of tricks with procreate:
Tap with two fingers for undo, three for re do
If you click The little square between the opacity and size sliders you can colour pick from whichever image with your pencil
If you tap twice on the Apple Pencil on the non round side you can switch between paint and erase/blend
Then it’s very useful to click on the wrench button on the top left of the screen, go to tactile commands (trying to translate from another language so idk how accurate this is, but it’s the button right before the two sliders at the bottom) and then look through the settings !
Then you can make shortcuts etc !
(And for example choose if you want to be able to draw only with the pen or also with your fingers, the pression you need to apply to draw, etc etc)
Clipping masks so you don’t colour outside your base colour and yes you can colour select with your pencil. Looking forward to more digital art from you
3:39 ive had procreate for several months now, and I JUST now realized that LOISH made one of the preset artworks! I didn’t know who Loish was at first so I just deleted all the presets!
Temi, since u don’t know who LOISH is I highly recommend checking out her work. She’s rlly famous in the digital art world. Good enough for Ethan Becker to destroy
Few hacks I love to use;
1. Do the line work first, add another layer on top and change it to “multiply” - amazing way to paint over the line yet not cover it
2. Mixed; sketch traditionally and then take photo of the sketch and paint over it using the multiply option
3. Masking; if you want to paint different parts of the body faster without painting outside the part
4. You can use the ipad to sketch thumbnails instead of ruining your traditional work
5. Use textured backgrounds like watercolor cotton paper and keep it as the first layer to make the drawing more textured and real
6. Download brushes that suits your style; I tried gouache and watercolor brushes and they are amazing
7. Use the 6B pencil to sketch; it’s my favorite
Another thing I love about digital art is that you can save color schemes and name them, you can use the editing options on procreate to make the colors saturated or have grainy finish
digital art is very difficult if you use a smartphone and a stylist with those round ends
That came out so good! When you said “it feels weird” I definitely get that and I’m mainly digital too! When I’m doing digital art, I find it’s really frustrating when you know how a traditional tool lays down on paper but now you have to replicate it in a way. I’m like I know how a pencil works I swear but Procreate is doing me dirty lol and I have to get comfortable with a new technique essentially.
It came out really well. You might have just given me more inspiration to try out digital art. It seems so daunting honestly but starting out the way you did makes me feel better about it.
You did so good Temi. Great art
you can color select by pressing the round square between the resize thing and the opacity thing on the left
