    Hi Elena, I’m so glad you are talking about this art themes and It’s a great introduction to know this information. I have been doing art since 2020 and what I struggle the most is that I overthink the things that I want to create and end up frustrated with the results. Do you have any advice when it comes to improving your art without beating yourself up?

    • @fjordwind
      @fjordwind  Рік тому +64

      Hi there! Just try to focus more on the process of drawing than the outcome! Instead of thinking about the final result all the time try to enjoy the journey of experimenting and creating. Maybe it could even help if you start some drawings without the intention to ever finish it but rather to learn a new technique!🙂♥️ hope this helps a bit and don’t compare yourself to other artists ! Compare yourself with your older self !

    For most people an iPad with the Apple Pencil 2 and procreate is the best way to go. I started with a Wacom tablet and there was all kind of issues. The proportions of my monitor were off and kept resulting in diagonal lines instead of straight. looking at one screen while drawing on a different surface was counterintuitive. There was also software driver issues. It was a big learning curve that I found hard to go back to at the beginning stage. Also you need a computer and an adobe software subscription or equivalent.. Procreate costs 10 bucks and is amazing.

    12,9" iPad Pro and Procreate is by far the most satisfying experience. So much smoother than working on a pen display connected to your laptop. If you're on a tight budget, make sure to buy an older used iPad Pro. Everything from 2018 version works great. 128-256 GB space should be enough for most cases.

    • @ginocrute
      @ginocrute День тому

      I was wondering about memory as I want to get one for my wife. Would you say 64GB isn’t enough?

    • @jonasbaier
      @jonasbaier День тому

      @@ginocrute Yeah, possibly. If all you do is just using procreate. iPad OS and System Data is already taking 20 GB. Then you maybe got UA-cam (3-4 GB), Netflix (2 GB) and some importet photos and other apps. So you're left with 25-30 GB for your procreate files. I would say it's possible to work on the 64 GB model if your singulary focus is procreate and nothing else. In any other case I would go for the 128 GB model.
      A complex painting with a slightly higher resolution of 4500 x 3000 px (45 layers) can easily take up to 1 GB of storage space. While a a simple low resolution sketch at screen resolution (2732 x 2048) takes around 30-50 MB, if you add shades of colors to it with around 20 layers it already takes around 120-150 MB of storage space. Thus, your 25 GB will allow your wife to storage 25 complex paintings (moderate resolution) or around 150-200 colored sketches (low resolution).

    For not so heavy industrial art or animation, i recommend the Samsung Galaxy tab S series, and they come with their own stylus and are equally as powerful as the iPads
    Krita, Autodesk, ibis paint, infinite painter, Clip studio paint for Digital Drawings and Paintings
    Flipa Clip, Clip studio paint, Krita, Rough Animator for animations
    Kine master, Capcut, Power director, for video editing.
    And you can get almost all these apps for free. There are many more options out there, but these are the ones i use

    I personally have used a Fujitsu stylistic q704 for years as a sketching tablet. It's a tablet that has a couple of different optional keyboard docks. One that's just a keyboard, and one that has a bunch of ports and is also an expanded battery. It uses a wacom EMR digitizer as well as a touch screen. They are not the fastest computers ever that is true. But it's plenty enough to run something like a windows 11 lite or Ghost Spectre install and a handful of useful apps for graphics design an or photo manipulation.

    Thank you for this short and informative video! You've reassured me that I don't currently need things I can't afford yet. Right now I'm using the free version of Sketchbook Pro on my phone - I have found this software the best out of all the pixel art apps, and I have tried EVERY app I could in search of a comfortable drawing experience. I think my next step (once I have improved both my art and my income) is to buy a multi-purpose tablet with stylus and the premium version of Sketchbook Pro. My main challenge on my phone is not the software or my skill, it is the Fat Finger problem (yes, even with skinny fingers), I can hardly see where I'm drawing and have to zoom in one million percent to get an accurate line. So a nice pointy stylus will probably help me to get the work done faster too.
    Your art is also so pretty, tons of inspiration there too. I think I see 30% similarity between our drawing styles, so maybe I enjoy the mild feeling of familiarity - my people are a lot stiffer though, like wooden humans, haha.

    I would really recommend these open source softwares for editing your art and also digital art: GIMP and Krita. Just recently got my own Ipad and the convenience + drawing on display I don't think I could go back to doing art on the old pen tablet but what I learned still applicable and there's value in gaining those experience.

      @@butterflyj685 There are things you can do with digital art (created with a tablet & pen) that you can't do with scanned art. For processors: latest generation matters more than the number - as a rule of thumb when given a choice between latest (or 1-year) old i3 and 4 year old i5 - choose the former without hesitation. Also, latest means 11th to 13th gen for Intel and Ryzen-series for AMD.
    Do not worry too much about the exact model number - they are super confusing - consult a geek friend or follow the thumb rule above.
    Just, FYI - AMD is to Intel what XPPen is to Wacom (great performance at approx. half the price).
    E.g. i5 running in a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 laptop will perform less compared to an i3 111G4 running on Asus X515 - also it is only 15W max (i.e. consumes less power, so more battery life and better for planet).
    Generation matters especially (can't stress this enough) if you don't have dedicated graphics cards - UHD630 which is built into most recent intel processors can support three 4K monitors at the same time - not to mention better video playback

    Upgraded my 2 in 1, to: 4K & 9i, w/16gigs of DDR5 RAM. Loaded Manga studio 5/Clip Art, plus Photoshop 6, both licensed. But the real beauty in my Touch screen with a rechargeable pen is:
    WACOM TABLET licensed within! Beauty in the Beast, just rocks!! My other one aged out, after 7 years. I'm having cake and pie!

    You could also get a galaxy tab with s pen. It’s awesome with sketchbook. Clip studio also works well. Cheaper than an iPad and comes included with stylus.

    Anyone who can use a mouse can use a pen tablet instead of a display tablet. They're less expensive, have all the same features, have a longer lifespan and your hand doesn't block your view. It's also really good for people who don't want to wreck their backs hunching over a screen. It doesn't take long to get used to not looking at your hand while drawing. You already do that when using your mouse which most people are doing all the time.

    This was really helpful! I actually found a deal on the XP Pen tablet ($231.08 after shipping and taxes), but in the 15.6" size, and decided to buy it right away.
    I was looking at iPads and Samsung tablets, but they're all expensive and I'm not sure if I'll get into this hobby or not, so the drawing tablet sounds perfect for me. I wasn't planning on buying until I saw that deal, so now I need to watch your video again for what software I should get :) I know this video is older, but the Concepts software looks interesting.
    my iPad is 12 years old, so I was already planning on buying a new iPad soon, so it will be nice to try drawing on there. I'm looking at getting the rumored 12.9" iPad Air coming in May.

    Finally! Thank you! I am a graphic/fashion designer and I am searching for a new pen mouse as I have a Wacom from over 30 years ago. It still works and I use it but I wanted to upgrade and I didn’t understand how the display ones worked. (Haven’t been keeping up with pen mouse technology. 😬) Mine is the one that you can’t see on the mouse pad and you have to look up at your computer display like the Wacom Intuos, as this was the only available option that existed 30 years ago.😫 Do I connect it to a computer? Does it connect using Wi-Fi? How does it show the program/application I’m using on the pen display? Etc. so I’ve been watching numerous videos and after 2 hours of watching other videos you are literally the only reviewer who explained it needed to be connected to a computer. I now understand thanks to you. ❤ Fyi..I have an iPad with an apple pen and use that too but need this for my lapto/desktop computer I use for work while using Adobe programs. Keep up the good work! Can’t believe this is your first video! Amazing!

    I am gonna get a tablet with display from the get-go, I cannot stand using my finger to draw. I used to draw way back, and wanted to get back into it, but using digital this time around, if I find out it is not for me, I am gonna gift it to my niece that loves to draw. So either way it is a win imho.
    Thanks for the video, I have no idea what to get going into this, and this gave some pointers, especially on the software side. Only thing I am wondering about is side stuff, like do I need a glove when drawing? Seems handy.

    Alot people aren't aware that you can get Photoshop with the Photography bundle at £9.98 a month. This pack includes Lightroom and Photoshop, which is a great way to get photoshop; especially if you are also taking pictures. But of course, as with the video, if you are serious and know what you're getting into, then it's maybe justifiable for the monthly fee. Otherwise the other alternatives are more than enough to get the knowledge down.

    Affinity do great programs for iPad too.
    They are a tiny fraction of the cost that Adobe charges and are not subscription based...
    Affinity Photo (alternative to Adobe Photoshop)
    Affinity Designer (alternative to Adobe Illustrator)
    Affinity Publisher (alternative to Adobe inDesign)

    Re: Linux vs. Mac or Windows.
    I kind of had the opposite experience. On windows my pressure sensitivity kept breaking and I needed to restart the entire computer (which, on Windows, is a huge timesink) very frequently as nothing short of a complete reboot would fix it. The longest it actually worked was about 30 minutes but it kept breaking with ever greater frequency until I got only a few minutes of drawing time.
    Boot up Linux and behold, it actually worked flawlessly.
    Of course, this was a few years ago, probably around 2014, but it's worth noting that Linux can be a solid choice, especially if you can borrow a tablet to test it first or check reviews online.
    Ubuntu at least has a lot of drivers already integrated, far more than Windows, including a wacom driver.
