  • In this video we look at the issue of lead and elevation. How much lead does a straight away target require compared to a right or left swinging target. Hopefully the video will give you some answers and lead to higher and more consistent scores. Stay well and Happy Shooting...Roger Pace

    Hi Roger, i was listening to your tutorial and my mind went back to the late 70's/early 80's when i was a member of my county team for DTL. I concur with everything you say, it's spot on in my book.
    This video will serve a youngster (or not so youngster) who wants to get the basics correct first time.
    Well done mate. all the best from the UK.
    Neil.

    I shoot with a muzzleloader sxs 12 bore. I sorted out how much lead to give by picking up the bird on the center bead and move over to the end of either barrel (left or right depending on the flight) in front of the bird and fire. The width of the barrel gives me the right amount of lead. Works every time.

    Hello Roger,
    I shared with you that I got my first 25 clean last weekend at the Michigan State Shoot. I am anxious to go back out on our home course this coming Thursday and see if I can progress some more. I have been watching as many of your videos as I can fit in. My wife thinks you are my new hero, which may be true. Your videos are the common man‘s viewpoint that I find easy to relate to and disgest into to my limited knowledge. The video I just watched “Lead” and it was about as frank as it gets. I have viewed countless videos regarding the mythical “Lead” and I really could not connect the dots. Your diagram settled that and I took a picture of it and I put in my wallet. I will let you know how I do this week. They will be shooting my hat because at our club here in the States, that is what they do when you get your first 25 clean. So I am going to lose my prize hat but I have entered into new air and looking forward to busting 50 clean.
    Thank you again for your time and wonderful basic down to earth segments. See the bird, Shoot the bird. If it flies, it dies.
    Sincerely
    Rick Mansberger

    I’m pretty spot on with any left right, straight up, but I can seem to shoot a bird coming straight for me. Somehow my brain doesn’t know how to lead that way. The good part is when I miss a straight on shot, the bird move left or right, and my second shot is good.

      Michael... I wish I could be of more help...sounds to me like you can shoot...so it's what I say in the videos..."see bird shoot bird" do not think just go with it and shoot...thanks for watching ...much appreciated...stay well and happy shooting !!!

      Gun clubs closed down for a few months earlier in the year...we have very few cases of the virus so things are pretty good ...but i hear that there are lots of cases in Europe...hopefully the vaccine will help.

    hi Roger I'm new to shooting clays about 7 months now the problem I'm having is with my second clay first 1 usually not a problem secondly I usually miss any suggestions would be appreciated thank you Paul

    • @rogerpace9322
      @rogerpace9322  8 років тому

      Paul...generally the cause of missing with the second shot is that we lift our head off the stock...we need to "stay in the gun" until the second shot is fired......the clay is continually dropping and so we need to shoot a little lower than the first shot...sometimes we lift our head off the stock to see if we've broken the clay....a good practice method is to fire at a broken piece of the target to ensure that we "stay in the gun"...hope this helps...stay well...Roger
