      Gary...I was four years older than you when i first started shooting trap...that was two years ago...the good thing about the sport is that blokes well into their 70's and early 80's are still participating and shooting good scores...so good luck to you my friend...i believe it takes about 15 months...and then suddenly everything just clicks...no thinking ...no aiming...just see bird ..shoot bird...good on you!

      @@rogerpace9322 -- Great video, sir. I'm over 50 and have thought for years that the reason I can't hit anything with a shotgun (no matter how expensive the shotgun is) is that I simply started too late and that one must start shooting clays & doves at a young age to do any good. I've sold beautiful Benelli, Browning, and Remington shotguns because I couldn't hit any flying target with them.

    Great tip on the weight gain. I shot a beretta AL2 well as a teenager weighing 165 lbs. I returned to the gun years later at 200 lbs and couldn't hit a thing, noticed I could see the entire rib. Made up a shim to drop the comb a little and now it fits well again.

      Nokharma...sorry I didn't answer you sooner...but sometimes I do not see all the messages...I have answered it in your latest comment...there are too many opinions at the club ... choose two really good shooters and only listen to them...at our club I am lucky that we have a former australian national Coach..his name is peter guire and he is a lovely and knowledgeable chap...we also have dino Olivieri who has been inducted into the hall of fame for clay shooting...both of them are still good shots...do not listen to everyone because they each have their own opinion...same say hold low on the trap house...others say hold high...some say mount your gun high then bring it down....others say bring your gun up to your face parallel with the ground...do what you feel is good for you and then do it CONSISTENTLY...Happy Shooting...Roger...PS change only one thing at a time

    Hi Roger,
    To expand on my comment a bit - I've got a Miroku MK38 Teague Sporter, which the Browning rep thought was a tad low on the comb for me. I bought a Beartooth Comb Raising kit to see if I could correct this without breaking the Bank. It was a great improvement on the first outing, but I wasn't completely sure I'd raised the comb enough. Fitted a slightly thicker adjustment pad and then watched your video. Tried the straw test and saw that I was now spot-on. Brilliant! One less excuse…….

    All fair dinkum Roger. Before we use your method we should find out if twin barreled shotguns are regulated properly. I have owned nice birdguns but one barrel shoots off a foot or two from the other. I just close my eyes, mount the gun and see if my rib picture is right, do it many times, practice to hone your mount. Thanks

    another tidbit is to shoulder the rifle with our eyes closed.
    after it's up, open your eyes and see where your body naturally places the stock.
    Do it about ten times fast, eyes closed to get the motion set and then open your eyes and determine if you're aligned properly.

    Helpful video thanks. I have confirmed my gun doesn't fit. I need to increase cast as I'm shooting slightly to the left. I notice you push your head down onto the comb. I shoot skeet (gun mounted after release of the bird) and game. Ideally we should mount the gun with the neck held in the natural standing position. I don't think I drop my head at all and the rib is in correct position. My right eye needs to move about 4 or 5 mm to the left to be central to the rib. Its a cheap gun and not a special stock. Would it be easier to remove some of the comb with a spokeshave then refinish the woodwork instead of going through the hot oil and bending treatment?

    • @rogerpace9322
      @rogerpace9322  Рік тому

      If you are happy to remove some of the wood then that is probably easier than the process of bending the stock...but yes whatever you do your eye needs to line up with the rib...much appreciated...stay well and happy shooting !!!

    Always wanted to know what fitting your gun was. Ever since seeing the movie Revenge with Kevin Costner and Anthony Quinn. Thanks for sharing!

      I went trap shooting for the first time and whilst i love the silver pigeon dtl ( trap version ) i dont think it fit properly without some modifying. I did quite well but need to practice my mounting

    Roger - I know this is quite an old video, but still very relevant and an excellent and simple explanation of a subject that some experts make to sound way over complicated - probably because they want to charge big bucks to offer the same advice? 👍👍
