  • Six Flags Over Texas opened on August 5, 1961. It was the original Six Flags park and the first of three built by Angus Wynne. Times were much simpler back then.... no big fast-paced looping coasters.... just nice "family fun and adventure". Six Flags was based purely on Texas History and the countries that flew their flags over Texas throughout its history: Spain, France, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The United States and the Confederate States of America. You will see the different sections as you peruse through this 1963 version of the park. The Boomtown section was new to the park this season and added a second station to the railroad, a carousel and the Texas Sky Hook. I hope you enjoy this close up look at Six Flags Over Texas: 1963

Bring back "Good Memories", parents brought us to park in "1963",to bad things change, for better or worse.

Our first visit was in 1963, the year we married. Wonderful park with simpler rides and attractions.

Such wonderful memories of my home park. I have since gone on to work for Disney International creating shows around the globe but this started it all!

I remember going in the 70's. Lassalle's River Boat and the Caddo Canoes we my favorite. Didn't the Sky Hook go to Magic Springs in Hot Springs? Sure was a lot simpler times back then.

It was moved to Six Flags Over Georgia - Where it went from there I'm not sure of.

So was the rail line on the north side of the park moved in the 70's for the Shockwave area, or was just additional land purchased?

The Shock Wave was built outside of the tracks on property already owned by Six Flags.

@@DustyWingsProductions It would appear there is a store called Yankee Notions, in the Confederacy of all places? Skull Rock and the restroom look like they were removed for Spinnaker. What was in that Oirate Cave beside pirates). Did the water tower in Boomtown ever work? I always thought Colonel's Cafe was in 62.

@@travismartin6470 The Skull was never properly shown on any of the maps. It faced north, but was always depicted the way it is here so the face could be seen. It's also in the wrong location on the island. I do not believe the Boomtown water tower ever worked. For ambience only. I was curious about the Yankee Notions myself.
