  • Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags St Louis, Six Flags New England, Six Flags America, and Six Flags Mexico. All amusement parks and theme parks in danger of closing due to poor management from the Six Flags CEO and corporate. After reporting their Q2 Six Flags 2023 earnings report, Six Flags stockholders have been shell shocked and the future of Six Flags looks dim. What will become of all the best roller coasters in the world that the Six Flags parks have assembled? Will 6 Flags survive or will the Six Flags 2023 season be one of their last?

If Six flags wants more visitors they need to work on presentation. Clean parks. Costumed characters. Friendly staff. Immersive environments. People want to be lost in a fantasy not feel like they are wondering the AC boardwalk.

One thing you didn't bring up was the loss of the dining pass and parking pass. That's one of the biggest reasons they lost 50% of season pass holders.

    • @lancedawalga4268
      @lancedawalga4268 9 місяців тому

Actually the parking passes probably didn't play much of a role in it as the parking passes weren't done away with, they simply re-did the pass holder /membership system and made the parking pass applicable to only certain passes instead. Whereas before all passes and memberships had that perk. To add to that, with the decreased premium pass/membership pricing it's waaaaay more affordable than before.
As for the dining passes - the restructure of that perk was necessary. The way it was before - allowing you to get free food items for EVERY visit adds up - so adding a limit to the amount of free meals available in a single season was certainly a responsible change to the dining pass - however, as with the parking pass they did not get rid of the pass it was simply limited to decrease costs from giving away a mind boggling amount of free food & that would be considered ridiculously expensive to ANY theme park.
The real reason the company lost so many pass holders is because the world was in a global pandemic and the company was closed like every other theme park - which quite frankly Cedar Fair, Universal Studios, and even Disney lost the equivalent of half of their pass holders/memberships because of that. Trying to blame it on the way the parks have restructured their systems is rather poor form. 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

This is a VERY Valid point in todays economy, NO ONE has any extra money accumulating every month anymore. Bidenomics saw to that. Until we get a president who actually wants to help the average American by putting extra money in our pockets by GOOD SOUND COMMON SENSE Policies, the average american barely has enough money to payy for the Essentials. I wish we had a president that knew something about how money works, and had a business sense to their approach, that would result in average americans saving more money each month.

So to hear that this new CEO intends on rising the prices even more just infuriates me. If they had only raised the prices after adding new rides then I wouldn’t be as upset, but raising the prices as soon as you bought the park without making any major changes is a serious red flag to me.

It's funny how Selim says he wants to put effort into maintenance. He's talking about predictors for maintenance like train upgrades and big changes, but it's the day-to-day keeping things running that keeps attractions being charming for years to come. You can't just let Monster Mansion run without maintenance until the time comes to make upgrades. You're going to see ridership decrease while it looks bad, and many people won't come back if the upgrade isn't big enough.

As someone who lives near the six flags Great America and used to frequent it before covid because it was in the area, it has gone downhill. There is a lot of empty space, lack of things to do for families, lack of variety in amusement/entertainment, and it's become a place where a lot of teenagers loiter. Six flags used to be worth the price of admission, but now it doesn't even it's not worth it anymore. Especially because things are so expensive too. Idk. There isn't a pull to go or even just hang around

As downhill as the Six flags chain has been, Great America is slowly fixing things up, not perfect but in the right direction.
Shading structures are being added, buildings getting some repaint and TLC and removing some attractions that are not needed being Dare Devil Dive and Buccaneer Battle. Despite ride operations and staffing still being an issue at times, it’s not the worst.
The park did say that 2023 was just going to focus on cleanliness and making areas a bit nicer.

As one of the teens who used to loiter around Six Flags St. Louis, it was a way for me to hang out with friends that I wouldn't normally get to meet anywhere due to one thing or another, and it also got me outside and not focus on technology. I loved walking the park, because it felt like an amusement park (empty malls don't help the issue). Some of us teenagers at the time had no other outlet to be ourselves away from family and without getting yelled at for hanging out. Malls around here practically put the hammer down on groups of teens window-shopping, so we had no other place to really go.
I used to love six flags because it was affordable and I felt welcomed as me (lgbt relationship). Now I can barely afford to park, they now charge and entry fee for the previously free water park, three chicken tender and a small amount of fries went up to $12/13 without a drink, and they just let the rides break leaving a small amount of options.... I used to work there when I was a freshman in highschool and loved it for the atmosphere, but now it just feels rundown, dirty, and forgotten. Hell even the Six Flags St. Louis advertisements aren't even featuring the park in any promo.

I've been going to Six Flags Great Adventure since the late 90s until about 2007, and that place was thriving! I bought the seasons pass this season because it was a good deal. I bought the gold pass, which was upgraded to the platinum pass, and was about $100. This pass included free parking and unlimited access to the park, wild safari, and hurricane harbor. I honestly can't believe how run down the park has become. There is no entertainment anymore unless they have an event for a particular day. Everything is faded or discolored. The restaurants are run down, and the food is expensive and tastes horrible. Most of the staff is rude and looks miserable. It was actually pretty sad to see. The park needs a major face lift/renovation. The only thing the park has going for them are the roller-coasters(when they are open). I really hope the park owners can fund the necessary renovations so the park can thrive again.

Agree. Six Flags Great Mis-Adventure in late Summer of 2022 was terrible, as was St. Louis and Magic Mountain. Unfortunately that's the norm at Six Flags. I go to lots of parks every year so I get a good feel for how Six Flags and Cedar Fair are doing in the eyes of an intelligent, open-eyed consumer. Cedar Fair parks for years have felt much more welcoming, efficiently run, friendlier, cleaner, with more rides open and much more optimism than any Six Flags property. Fiesta Texas is, _almost,_ an exception, but it is run by a passionate, long-time Texas coaster enthusiast who cares greatly for "his" park.

In my opinion, the problem with Six Flags is that unless you buy a season pass you are screwed! We went there this year with a day pass that at first seemed reasonable. But then they keep piling on the price by making you pay for additional things. For instance, one of the best things about Six Flags was that you got two parks with one ticket! Meaning that you got the regular park and the water park with one price. Not anymore! Now you have to pay extra if you want to go to the water park! Which is unfair to people that will mainly spend their day there in the summer! If they want to do that then they should give you a choice of which part of the park you want to go to and only pay for that park. Like Dollywood does. Because the problem is that they have severely cut the hours of operation now. It used to be open until at least 10 pm and longer on the weekend days. Now they close at 7 pm! So if you go to the water park, which closes at 6 pm, then you only have one hour to enjoy the rest of the park! Which totally sucks! Also $30 for parking for one day is outrageous! They have made it so that unless you buy a pass, they are just going to screw over the person that wants to come for the day. Especially familys on vacation that obviously would not buy a season pass! At least in my area I think that is the main reason why attendance is down!

Six Flags' biggest problem is their people at the top aren't Six Flags people. The company brings in people who have no investment in the wellbeing of Six Flags. For decades Six Flags was tossed from corporate overlord to corporate overlord and viewed as a potential ATM once it gets moved out of liability status.....and the corporate overlord would do nothing to move Six Flags out of that liability status identity. Sell the project to another corporate overlord and the process repeats.
A corporation which wants to become Six Flags and make it their crown jewel needs to show up and get to work.
ALSO, that 38 million lawsuit payout for the fingerprint scan entry in Illinois was total bullcrap. You don't have to buy a season pass if you don't want "big brother" knowing your fingerprint. Nobody was forced to buy a season pass.

Having visited many other theme parks across the country (as most have), Six Flags can improve their situation quite simply by emphasizing development in areas that work for successful parks. 1) Invest heavily into theming and park presentation, and 2) venture into Six Flags Resorts where patrons can stay at Six Flags themed hotels overnight or for multiple days for multiple park visits.

They got as far as beginning construction before local hotels got the city to shutdown construction so the park ended up turning around turned the buildings offices they lease out companies that can fill a whole building i.e. Sunkist and Scorpion. Themeparks don't always have a choice to go full on-site resorts like Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, etc. They also do Theme areas in their parks if you ever taken the time to look at their maps even if the ride names don't always reflect the theme of the area.

You’re spot on. Their biggest money makers (Great Adventure, Magic Mountain, and Great America) had their attendance peak in the mid 1990s. Why? Because they attracted a much broader mix of adults with children who were drawn to their parks because of their mix of rides, shows, and attractions. Today, the parks have limited appeal because they lack shows, attractions, and other rides which appeal to families. Rollercoasters alone do not draw millions to any mark.

The employees are so rude and have contempt for the guests. Always understaffed and many of the restaurants are closed. It’s been sad to watch the decline. There is a very trashy element to a large percentage of the guests. I have seen people smoking weed out in the open. Same with cigarettes. There have been fights and robberies in the parking lot. We stopped taking our grandchildren. It feels unsafe. Save yourself the waste of time. Drive to Silver Dollar City. I think a lot of the content creators for Six Flags parks are in an echo chamber - they are young, without families, and are myopically focused on intense thrill rides, which a lot of people aren't into, and that's exactly what turns a lot of consumers away from six flags and hurts their business. True, they aren't Disney, and they don't need to be, however, they still need to focus on things like park beautification, immersive theming, food offerings, and diversity of entertainment including shows, dark rides, and family coasters. It's the only way they'll actually grow into a stronger brand.

The problem with our Six Flags (Six Flags: America in the DC/MD region) has always been the location. It's essentially purgatory but the people from each side get to merge every now and then. You can go one day, have a wonderful time, get some food, take in a show, buy a few souvenirs. Then when it's time to leave, you go back to your car and someone broke into it. Or, you'll go one day and get surrounded by people who want to steal your belongings if you leave them unattended at the water park area, find some way to get into a argument with you, cut in line (every line, no matter what it's for), and fight the ride operators. Yes, this happens in every theme park, it just seems to happen a lot more often at this theme park. We'll go to Virginia to Kings Dominion, which is starting to become more of a backwoods country fair than a theme park so it's not a very good comparison, but for all the negativity with Kings Dominion, conflict is still lower there than at Six Flags.

Selim is the absolute worst. He fired most to the employees then pretends to care about them. He says “we can do more with less.” He really doesn’t care. I know people who work/worked there, and everyone hates him and wants him gone. At this point he’s only concerned about saving himself. He was the reason they got rid of the last CEO because he convinced the board that he could do better, but clearly that wasn’t the case. He’s only saying add more rides now after he was against it because it literally the only thing he can do to try to bring in the crowds, but it still maybe to late.

Interesting video! I just saw that Six Flags Over Georgia announced a new thrill coaster so I hope they are taking a really close look at what people want. It's just hard for me to justify going back to Six Flags multiple times a year because the rides are just ok but the atmosphere is basically non existent. I was a season passholder last year because I found the pass to be a good deal, but it didn't make sense for me to get it this year because I didn't think the park could offer me anything new. The parks need a major facelift & need the atmosphere revamped.

The one thing I don’t think that Six Flags understands is how and where to raise prices.
Don’t raise gate prices if you are just going to discount them back down. Set the gate price where you actually need it to be and raise the price on draft beer and bottled water a quarter. Your captive audience is going to pay for those consumables. Improve the merchandise situation-stop selling junk in the gift shops. Get some quality merch out there and charge a premium for it - Cedar Fair is certainly capitalizing on that-I love my hoodie that has a zipper pocket-and I think it was $70.

Another reason why he raised them is because he wanted it to not be a "cheap daycare for teens" and to get unruly behavior out of the parks. I would like to note last Saturday six flags New England hit capacity in the morning and was kinda packed at night, so I would like to note that people do come back to six flags New England. Compared to 2022 it's a lot better, the quality of the park has improved. The rides are awesome except for superman having only one train last time I went which was last Saturday. Compared to 2021 on average the park does a little less attendance than they did for 2021. The parks were packed for 2021 and the lines went out of the queue. For some reason whenever I go to six flags New England I never see the line for wicked cyclone pretty long. The only lines that are almost full for the queue or are going out of it are pandemonium, Harley Quinn spinsanity, sometimes batman the dark Knight. Wicked cyclone, new England sky screamer, joker, Supergirl Skyflyer, cyborg cyber spin and everything else is almost a walk on. I hope they don't remove any of the rides that have a walk on. Joker I can live without, ada pass only works for purple side and it sucks on purple side. Ever since 2023 wicked cyclone has had some bumps on it. Despite it being an rmc. After the first drop always has been one. Peak of the overbank. End of overbank. After speed hill, after zero g stall. Before double down.

That liability account may be needed when you piss people off by having 8 coasters out of 20 open on any given day at Magic Mountain and the like... Just a theory...

    • @Codetapper
      @Codetapper 9 місяців тому +1

And it's a downward spiral. If you turn up and 8 coasters are down, you're not going to go back in a hurry, and probably spread the word that many rides aren't operating. Add in the fact they "open" at 10:30am but most rides are closed or testing until about 11am, plus many are running one train, and then of course you have horrendously long food lines. Selim needs to fix the basics, get all the rides operating, have spare parts to fix the trains, get 2+ trains running on everything, more staff for the food lines and people will have a better time, come back more, and spend more. It seems pretty simple. There's no use adding a 21st roller coaster to Magic Mountain if 8 will still be closed everytime you visit.

The gate attendants at Over Georgia tried to harass my girlfriend over tiny spiked wristbands she was wearing, when I had just cruised on by with gigantic, much sharper ones on. I told the guy he was a tool and really saving lives today while walking back to my car to put them up and the idiot tried to follow me and COMMAND me to return, getting very angry and telling me I'm banned from the park before his manager had to waltz out, coral him, and flag down some of the other people in our group to let us know we were, infact, NOT banned from the park. Then a shooting happened like a year later. Yeah, never going back. The meal pass was completely messed up and others with it were complaining of the same problem to a completely disinterested "customer support" person at a desk in an air conditioned building who did nothing to help and said they could do nothing. Many rides were closed. The water raft ride felt unsafe, no lifeguards or watchers anywhere along the course, and it kept slamming into things way too hard. That thing's a disaster waiting to happen. When I was 11 I went, and someone got ran over with a go-kart and an ambulance had to come. All in all I could sense the massive decline in quality in the 13 year span that I didn't go. I'm glad I stopped going.

What makes fiesta Texas good is the quarry makes it look beautiful and the workers I see try hard to keep clean but what’s sad is Salim doesn’t care about clean parks. San Antonio loves our park (by the way fiesta Texas is the park in your video) Fiesta Texas is still thriving because the city loves our beautiful park and I hope this guy doesn’t ruin our park. At 16:00 you say that a new ride at SFA won't go as far as a bigger park, but it would take quite a ride to make a big park like Great Adv. "significantly better" ( 17:00 ) while a good new coaster would redefine SFA. But GA would need to be a nicer place to be and always have everything open and safe. Being part of a chain giving more needful parks what they need might help too.

a few things. 1) Loved all the footage of fiesta, i live like an hour away and have been going there for years and seeing the same land scapeing and rides was great.
    2) I feel as if six flags is heading upwards right now, with fiesta opening dr dioblicals in 22 and a ton of people in the San Antonio region and other surrounding areas have been going more often over the past year.
    3) The weather thing is going to be an issue, as well as the landscaping in fiesta, from personal experience with the heat down here. it bakes you up all day and leaves you freezing at night. With Fright fest being open now and the park opening just before the heat of the day, i understand lower addendace.
Im not a coster person, but i agree with the need for more thrill rides in the parks than what has been happening. Crack Axle Canyon getting 2 new rides (dr diabolical and daredevil dive.) has brought some new "life" if you will, to Fiesta. and i feel as if they keep this up, they could really bring back the sort of greatness they had in the early 2000's and 2010's.
I've seen around the park that certain rides are getting experience and general updates and are gearing towards being better by early 2024( ie the golden lasso ride).
Sorry if this is a lot to read, and or hard to understand. good video!

We went to Six Flags Over Georgia earlier this year, and the overall experience was just not great. The worst part was trying to get our food. We paid for the package that included food for everyone. We waited an hour in line for food because they would only take one or two orders at a time then just stand there and look into the kitchen. None of it made any sense, the food was already ready and just sitting there for the most part. And if you were only waiting on one item, why not take orders until that one thing came out? Most other orders could’ve been filled instantly because almost all the food was ready. When we voiced that to the workers they just got angry with us and told us “It’s part of the Six Flags experience.”

    1) lack of dark rides and theming. Literally got roller coasters in parking lots. They need to improve the theming and need dark rides theming as well. Which leads to my 2nd point.

I used to go regularly and had a membership. Then about two years ago I had gone for freight fest and had to reserve my spot ahead of time so they could “limit guest counts for social distancing.” When I got there, there was more people than I’ve ever seen before and the ticketing site crashed when they opened the gates so nobody could use their tickets. After about 4 hours of waiting in lines to get in and get the maze pass(which costs extra) we saw one show and decided to leave and drive home(1.5 hours) as we were in line for the first maze for a hour. They lied about limiting guests for social distancing and couldn’t even handle the guests they had that night. I told them about how horrible the experience was and they didn’t care so I cancelled my membership and I’ll never go back.
Drove a total of 3 hours to go to an overcrowded park and wait around for 6 hours and spend $150 on top of a membership just to see a 30 minute acrobatics show and eat cafeteria grade nachos.

Agreed. Great Adventure has nothing to complain about by comparison. Sfstl is running a bunch of nearly 25-35 year coasters. The excuse has been for years that SFFT, SFMM, SFGAm, and SFGAdv get the priority. The problem is this makes things off kilter and has resulted in the mess we are dealing with. When SF invested in ground breaking rides in STL in the 90s it reached 2 million visitors. SF can tide GAdv over by a gimmick like swapping the trains for a year between green lantern and Medusa while giving STL what they need (an RMC conversion).

A silver season pass is currently on sale for $69 which includes parking and 12 months of admission. That regular price is unjustifiable. Since I'm local and have a kid under 2, it's a pretty good deal to get him access to a water park and miniature railroad. But it is not, and never will be a "premium park". It's unfortunate that we've reached the age of CEO's (particularly this guy and Chapek/Iger) that only exist to cut costs and personnel.
