As a boy, I remember bugging Dad to take me to Six Flags each summer. I think 1971 was my first time to go. It was magical place for a little kid and he probably knew that. Dad would walk the park all day and ride everything with me until I was worn out. I lost him in 2017, but spending time with Dad there is a wonderful memory of mine that won’t perish.
That brought back a lot of memories... what I wouldn't give to go to that park again one more time with my parents and grandparents and have a Pink Thing with them.
Sad that Six Flags isn't what it was in the 60's and 70's. It just isn't Six Flags anymore. Sky Hook, LaSalle River Boat, Spelunker Cave, Skull Island. All gone.... not the place it was.
@@Marc-bv8td Exactly. It used to be somewhere really special where a kid's imagination could run wild. Now everybody is spoon-fed super heroes and cartoons at this park. Nothing really creative, nothing very memorable that you can't find anywhere else.
My absolute favorite place in the world when i was a boy. Dad took us there every summer - i believe the first year was 1973. The park started changing in the '80s - more and more cement everywhere instead of the nice shrubbery.
Grew up going there in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. Was my favorite place on the planet. Although the attractions have changed and I wish I could experience again like I did as a kid, I am glad it is still going strong today (and I still make it there every few years, even though I'm "old"!). Thanks for the video and memories.
I rode the Sky Hook on my first trip to Six Flags. It was the first thing we saw from the highway. Speelunker's Cave... Skull Island... The Runaway Mine Train... Magic! Now, like others here, I'm a little choked up and missing my dad.
I was there in the early 70's and saw a concert by Mel Tillis during his show there was a cloudburst and everyone scrambled out of the theater area to an ichabod crane covered bridge and waited out the storm. Wow what a memory
I can so remember, all these things,i remember the old sky hook,i was about 6 years old when I first went on it.And I remember the log rides when they really did have the lumber-jack that stood above you as you went up,and I remember the one with the villain that stood above you as you went up,i can so remember hi top hat,and how he would say something like Aww-then he would laugh.Does anybody remember that dummy they had there in the jail, and they had some kind of voice hooked up to him,i remember as a child of 6 years old he scared me,but yet I could not keep myself away from looking at him,i guess it was one of those I loved being scared.
Ok, of you are at six flags go to the white theater, near the France area, that's where the la sales adventure or something, it was a boat ride, to the right of the theater there's a exit to the ride and I love going into places and sneaking into things and I am convinced to go and explore and go into that exit
Yes! We used to sneak off and smoke cigarettes back there in the 90s when I was an underage season pass holder. Haha. It basically led to a viewing dock and a decorative pump house. Haven't been back in years. Wonder if it's still easily accesible and abandoned. Would love to go back!
I remember the Evil Villain at the Log Ride doing a sort of 'he-he-he-he' evil sounding laugh or chuckle thing, as he sawed the log above you....for some reason that has always stuck with me over the (many) years hahaha
Old Six Flags. I rode everything you filmed. Thank you. The nations oldest regional theme park died when they made it '1 flag'. SO grateful I got to go when it was still 6.
Thank you so much. I grew up in Arlington and I was a kid at the time of these film clips. This sentimental music make this really get to me. Those were such great times and I miss them, but the memories are great
Good job Dave. I did not visit Six Flags til like 1978, and it's been a long time since the last. But happening across these clips bring back some good memories, and fun images regardless. Nice work and post.
I was born in 1971, but our family visited this park in the early 80's. Just seeing the people and rides in this video pulls me back to my childhood years. Sure makes me miss my father. Thanks for posting this!
I remember a lot of these was the ride at 4:02 the mini train ride that use to be in the mexico section I barely remember that one didn't see big ben roller coaster that was a great one too So many memories going there as a kid thanks for the video.
90s kid here loved it out there many years season pass holders.Haven't been since 2006.From the looks of new pictures and videos the place looks really rundown.
USA section was/is the Tower, Shock Wave (1977), and where the canoes were. They had fireworks in the pond when the canoes were closed after dark. Boomtown has the Mine Train and Mini-Mine train, and what use to be the Cliffhanger as well as Boomtown Station for the Steam trains. Boomtown has now been swallowed up by all the Gotham City stuff which use to be Good Times Square. Six Flags patron since 1972 and former employee 1998-1999.
The hands-on rides and attractions (Caddo Canoes, slides, moving bridges, Casa Magnetica, etc.) made this park something special. Now these are mostly gone to accommodate “high capacity” crap.
Wow. Thank you for the reminder of when the park was about families having fun in a kind of fantasy world. Now it is all “thrill rides”, graffiti, sponsor advertising, Warner Brothers’ promotions, and mobs.
I thought that looked like a dolphin theatre wow so they did used to have animals and dolphin shows, glad they dont anymore seeing the level of car that the park receives sometimes is not so great
i cannot understand the 3 thumbs down. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE? 6 Flags is a casualty of politically correctness. Everything is boiled down to mush trying not to offend someone and to please all. Life is not fair and diversity is what keeps us alive. Let's just all be who we are without apologies and respect the differences between us. love this video. i'm sorry the kids of the last 30 years did not get to enjoy the magical land filled with the heritage of Texas.
Great video. Thanks for sharing a special time when Six Flags was cool and larger than life. Skull Island was my favorite along with the river boat ride. I am proud of Texas history but Six Flags is nothing but garbage now. Just another woke corporation with no soul at all.
Six Flags over Texas used to be great but no more. Shame on you Six Flags for taking away the six flags that Texas was under at various times. All in the name of trying to be politically correct. That is what made Six Flags so unique and great. It was larger than life to me growing up but I would never go back again.
It used to be special. Now is just yet another commercialized mess with. nothing unique about it. I feel very sorry for the kids seeing it now who have no idea what they are missing.

mrksts1 he enjoyed every minute with you
mrksts1 I remember going in the early 70’s.
That brought back a lot of memories... what I wouldn't give to go to that park again one more time with my parents and grandparents and have a Pink Thing with them.
So sad how they neglect the themes and scenery on the older rides that made six flags great.
Sad that Six Flags isn't what it was in the 60's and 70's. It just isn't Six Flags anymore. Sky Hook, LaSalle River Boat, Spelunker Cave, Skull Island. All gone.... not the place it was.
werksdesign yes. It still is a lot of fun, but it lacks the charm it had when I was a kid.
@@Marc-bv8td Exactly. It used to be somewhere really special where a kid's imagination could run wild. Now everybody is spoon-fed super heroes and cartoons at this park. Nothing really creative, nothing very memorable that you can't find anywhere else.
Miss the focus on Texas history. Hardly anything left but roller coasters.
And Looney Tunes 🤣!!
Of course Looney tunes but that is representing America .
Texas history is not politically correct so we have to ignore it. Sad...
@@daves2058 Only idiots and fools ignore history.
Yep, where are the actual Six Flags that flew over Texas?? gone
My absolute favorite place in the world when i was a boy. Dad took us there every summer - i believe the first year was 1973. The park started changing in the '80s - more and more cement everywhere instead of the nice shrubbery.
And it got hotter and hotter in the Texas sun with all that cement!

Thank you for the awesome memories and flashbacks! I really miss that old amusement park.
Terry Burgess it's still there.
It is still here lol

Remember the getting a Pink Thing!?
That is crazy seeing this video such good memories of sixflags seven seas in the early 1970’s. Makes me miss my parents and grandparents
I miss how open theme parks used to feel. Most today are so over constructed, they feel more like miniature cities than parks, including this one.
Thank you so much. I grew up in Arlington and I was a kid at the time of these film clips. This sentimental music make this really get to me. Those were such great times and I miss them, but the memories are great
Volcano ride!!! I remember the marionette dancing girl puppets at the end inside the volcano😂❤
I love seeing how people dressed in all of the old videos. My mom's generation wore dress up Sunday best clothes.
I was 7 to 10 years old when these were taken. I remember so well skull island.
Good job Dave. I did not visit Six Flags til like 1978, and it's been a long time since the last. But happening across these clips bring back some good memories, and fun images regardless. Nice work and post.

The mini mine train was @ 1:02 and was in the USA section next to the runaway mine train. 4:02 was the volcano ride.

I'm too young to remember the Sky Hook, but I remember the rest of it.
Me too
Wow. This from before I was born. Weird to see the oil derrick still not finished. I'm vlogging Six Flags at the moment on my channel.
Thanks for bringing back the GR8 memories!!💖😀
Scull island ,wow I remember

Thanks for sharing your movies! I don't know what happened to the few we took when I was a kid. Enjoyed the memories so much!
The hands-on rides and attractions (Caddo Canoes, slides, moving bridges, Casa Magnetica, etc.) made this park something special. Now these are mostly gone to accommodate “high capacity” crap.
Then still Rural south Arlington from skyhook..deep sigh
Love that u put def leppards goodbye in it

The skyhook was moved to Hot Springs Arkansas
I wondered about that, I vaguely remember riding it with my mother.
I always thought I just dreamed or thought up 3:17 - but there he is - threatening to drop a log on my family.
I thought that looked like a dolphin theatre wow so they did used to have animals and dolphin shows, glad they dont anymore seeing the level of car that the park receives sometimes is not so great
Wow, brings back a lot of memories! Sad to say but my kids have no interest in going to Six Flags. Maybe some day , I’ll have grandkids to take.
In my room was he map.
Sky hook was before me
