Mike Douglas called them the dukes also. SSJ , hates that album and will never play a sonf from it in concert. He said the record company made hime do a " disco album" and the song he hates the most is Get your body on the job!
I should have skimmed through the show before answering before. They first showed up for Johnny's performance; they then stuck around for the rest of the show for the 2 remaining breaks.
Little Calcutta is among Southside's greatest hits, but his live performance in this video is awful. In fact, I have never seen a good live performance by Southside Johnny. Yet he's still touring and (presumably) attracting fans who don't care if the songs bear only a passing resemblance to the recordings. BTW, the album Slow Dance that Southside promoted on Letterman is hard to get nowadays but includes three top-notch songs: Little Calcutta, On the Air and Sirens of the Night.
SSJ is one of my favourite live artists, he never fails to put on a great show. Lots of people don't go to a concert to hear an exact copy of an album, but they want to see and hear great musicians having fun and entertain their crowd. Copying albums is boring, witnessing great musicians using their skills to give you an unforgettable experience isn't.
Great & Thanks for the post - BTW it's Asbury Jukes.
Mark Pender! Another Late Night connection.
Thank you sooo much for sharing this! ❤️❤️❤️

WOW … ! ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊😊😊
He was on top of his game here, his voice has gone ( dare I say ) south over the years!
How good was that, thanks.
Class
I can tell you ain't from Jersey Don! It's ASBURY JUKES! Please fix or I'll send Vinnie over. :)
Fixed, and thanks! I want no trouble from Vinnie.
And Uncle Carmine
So Underrated, The Jukes Album only sold 300,000 Copies. It's one of their best works. 1979 Copyright
Agreed, what a great album.@@stevegillings5563
Going to see them this summer!!! Can’t wait!
Dukes? 🤦🏻😅😅 maybe you're thinking about the Amboy Dukes? But love the upload regardless 👍🏼👍🏼
Oops, that’s undoubtedly what I was thinking. Fixed, and thanks!
Best bands to come out of Jersey: 1) Springsteen/E Street Band, 2) Southside Johnny/Jukes, and 3) the Smithereens.
Little Steven and Disciples of Soul. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. Eddie and the Cruisers.

My mistake, the album i was refering to was 1983 trash it up
That's the one he does indeed hate. I've seen the Jukes 200-plus times...and they have never played anything from that album.@@anthonygallo3576
@@anthonygallo3576 That was an awful album!
Did the Dukes horn section play during the intro of this episode?
Nope; they were there only for Johnny's performance.
Aw, too bad. Did they at least stick around until the end of that day's episode?
I should have skimmed through the show before answering before. They first showed up for Johnny's performance; they then stuck around for the rest of the show for the 2 remaining breaks.
Was it a very short credit roll?
Yeah, nothing noteworthy.
Overrated: Springsteen
Underrated: Southside Johnny.
Lol. Bruce is actually underrated.
Bruce is far from overrated
@@mikemcf33 underrated
Springsteen = great song writing
Southside = great vocals
Together = the best
