The artists on this show is the Jukes, and parts of the E Street Band, like Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt, Garry Tallent, and Max Weinberg, and also Jon Bon Jovi.
a seminal performance by the most under rated musician in these US states of America
SSJ and the Jukes at the peak of their game. I saw them in Pittsburgh which was the first stop on the '91 tour and the show was identical to this video. The horns blew you away.
Quite possibly THE best club gig captured on video, ever.
Southside absolutely on fire & the stacked band w/ legend guests just killin' it!
This is heart and soul rock n roll.
Greatest voice in rock, melodic, soulful, a white david ruffin. Could have been a star, money was not important, wanted too make music, stayed in the background all the stars knew how great he was..what a voice, need I say more
You are dead on. You know it’s party time when you went to see South.
I saw Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes last night in concert at Penn's Peak. His voice is a little rougher with age, but the talent and soul are still there. The band sounded great! Makes me wish a lot that I had made the pilgrimage to Asbury Park in the 1970's 80's. No new artists today are making music this good. I also saw John Cafferty in concert last July, another great performer from that same style and era.
Back in the day, no one like him. NO ONE.
Growing up on the Jersey shore was the greatest experience you could have , saw them all it was an innocent time of just great music. I long for those days again
Sucks to get old
@@pgaquigz1125 Ohh, that it do, my friend .... 😑
Absolutely love this, it doesn't get any better than Southside in The Stone Pony playing my favourite album.......
Springsteen sings it, Southside LIVES it!!
Never saw this. MTV visuals and Bon Jovi (yuck) aside, this is great. The band is tight and Johnny is on (is he ever off?)
This is one of the finest artists i have had the honor to tour with cheers johnny
Music with feeling not just words
This is absolutely beautiful and I'll be cool hearing this out forever jersey music
Bruce and Johnny are quintessentially Jersey. They both remind me of summer and the shore, boardwalks, especially.
Bruce is a total nitwit. Read his book!
To this day, I know we have the time, to reach up and touch the sky, baby!
Actually, and I could easily be wrong here, but I thought it was: I know we had to try
To reach up and touch the sky, baby....
I remember seeing Southside at the Pony the night before I left for Parris Island.
Got home at 2AM, left for Newark Airport at 3AM, arrived at PI 3AM the following morning.
We need to see you back at the Pony brother. Your local fans miss you.
Well actually the Jukes are playing two nights in February 2024 part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Stone Pony.
This is the best band lineup he ever had. fantastic!!
Brilliant!
Thank you a zillion times for bringing this video to us. I had a tape of them WAY back but it got stolen at a house party. 'Not me' did it. Been looking for it since. Can't steal it from my phone! Ha ha ha.
This is one of my all time favorite albums, so I was blown away when I found this video here - this show is amazing!! Thanks for sharing, cheers!
excellent seen many videos from this show, but never the full show ,this is great thanks Trond, for sharing .
HALL OF FAME DESERVING
Agreed. Southside just plain ROCKS!!
There's not another male vocalist out there today that can match the style of Southside Johnny. Period. Where are all the great singers out there like him? Thanks for putting NJ on the map (again) for musical talent. From Frank to Whitney, and everything in between!
I've loved him since the 1970's!!
Rolling Stone’s lead review when the Jukes’ Better Days CD was released…referred to Southside as one of “the most compelling” vocalists there is. They gave Better Days 5-stars.
❤Love this!!!
Watch this twice a week NOW!, Best ever....this never out of style!
Great stuff. Seen SJ many times in my younger days growing up in NY, this was close to his peak. Heck of a performer
Saw Southside on TV in 1974 performing live and went to the record store first thing in the morning and been a fan ever since. Nobody does it live like this band and I've seen them many time over the years. Fortunately, they now make it ALL the way to South Florida these days, including later this year. They still sound as good as they do on this video so catch them if you can.
True stuff!!!
Their first album didn't come out until may of 1976
I've seen Southside 4 times over the years this is the best live show I've seen except for Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul and of course Bruce and the E st band no one touches these bands live they are the best thanks for all the great shows keep on rocking in the free world we love u all.
Bobby great guitar playing and Max great drumming keep up the great playing.
Sincerely Robert Schuhlein.
@@DavidWadeDFAproductions You're right! must have been 76 rather than 74.
Seen this band on the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow Scotland, being on a boat it was far too small for this fantastic outfit, what a night, what a performance, favourite number is ALL NIGHT LONG from this album but their rendition of WALK AWAY RENEE is stellar. For me Johnny's only third to PAUL RODGERS and FRANKIE MILLER, but music is purely subjective. Thanks for sharing this fabulous video.
Great performance and excellent sound quality! I love this band.
Good seeing Garry and Max w/ the Jukes. Good to see "Better Days" live.
Apparently Gary & Johnny are buddies from high school. Max played drums on the Jukes’ phenomenal 1978 album Hearts of Stone.
@@skarmazin Yep - I was all over Hearts Of Stone. Great album and I think the last produced my Miami Steve. The Jukes, E-Streeters and Disciples of Soul were somewhat interchangeable back then.
great to see a young Bon Jovi at around the 20 min mark... rockin...
Peak Southsixde, wow!!! 🤜🤜🤜💥
Cannot be beat!
Is that Jon non jovi on can I get a witness it’s a breathless act omg thanks for the lively sounds
Yes that is Jon Bon Jovi who said he grew up wanting to be in the Jukes. He’s been a big supporter of the Jukes over the years.
Always a great live show , Balls to the Wall by All 💙
Saw them on same tour in Zurich Switzerland....great performance - magic night to remember!
He should be knighted by the Gov. of jersey as the voice of NJ
Huge sound. Second best band out of NJ. Been a fan since 1974.
Thanks for the time stamps . Awesome shit . I want to see Southside Johnny . Live ..soon
Respect
Fantastic. Such energy and joy. Only saw the full jukes band once in the uk but what a night. Some great gigs with SSJ and Bobby B as a duo and once with Rusty
Thanks for uploading
BAAADAAASSSS!!!!
my favorite human being.
that MTV editing make me sea sick though.........but it's all good
what a show. Legend.
agreed, however I long for the days when MTV had this kind of content
agree indeed
Would loved to have been there. Fantastic!
Saw him in Austin Tx in Dec & the voice is a little rough but he puts on a great show & the band still kicks ass !
I always wondered why Joe Cocker got the fame and fortune when Johnny clearly had a better voice.
Bobby B was the perfect complement to Southsides vocals.
All the Way Home, never seen them do that. Such a great band, and what a voice1
The full horn section gves the Jukes such a powerful sound.
Aye, Cap'n!!
Yup, nuthin' like Southside's horn section. Man, they ROCK!!
In the 1992 European tour I saw the three venues in Italy. Milan at Rolling Stones discoteque; in Scandiano (Reggio Emilia) at Corallo discoteque; in Rome at Palladium discoteque.
In Scandiano Richie La Bamba Rosemberg go out in the middle of the performance because he drunk too much beers.
The bass player was David Yates!
Una joya, muchas gracias Brother.!!!
So much better performer than Bruce
Greetings from LockDown UK - Remembering good times and this is one of them for those that were there, to be sure.
First saw them at Knebworth 1979.
Many times since. Love this band.x
@@tinajones7293 My first time was at the Hammersmith Odeon a few decades after 1979 ... this gig here at the Stone Pony appears to be so much more in your face. Love it.
@@stevemeyer2400 I last saw Southside at Lincoln Drill Hall about 10 years ago. Was very disappointed. John Lyon was freaking out about the monitors/mixing desk. Not a good night.
Would LOVE to see them again. If this covid craziness ever ends,I'm heading to New York.x
My room mate at the time heard the lyrics as "I'm chocolate pills". Oh well, at least he tried to listened.
Fantastisk video!!!
Takk :-)
Just saw him last night again (Newton, NJ) great as usual!
Will be seeing him Weds. in Tampa. Saw him last year in Clearwater. Fantastic. You have the setlist?
@@AlanCinquino never the same....saw him about 9 times since July 2023 and never the same. Expect about half the songs to be the "Greatest Hits"

Great band, love uncle South. How much weed did the audience have?

Here's another cut
Awesome!!!!!!!!!
Are any MP3?
Absolute fantastic - thank you so much for loading - I absolutely love this band. Saw them at the Stone pony, 2nd July 2011 when they recorded Men Without Women - didnt know until we got there from the UK. "All I ever wanted to be was a Juke"
I agree so 100%. Even if most people outside Jersey discover Southside due to other more famous artists, often he and the band ends up being the big favorites. At least that is what happened to me.
All I want is everything!!!!!!
Saw them as a opening act for (of all bands) ELP in Toronto, not their target audience, but they were impressive none the less
