Thanks for the review of different recording options for the iPhone 15 ProMax. I personally chose the Crucial X9 ssd and a similar elastic wallet connected to the phone with a 5" flat 40 Gbps cable....it's great!
Thanks so much for all that you’re producing. I’m really looking forward to seeing more. Do you think that a Samsung T7 Shield would fit in that MagSafe wallet?
My T7 dropped frames at 4K 30 ProRes Log. My SanDisk 4TB Extreme would drop the connection (maybe it requires too much power?). My SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro seemed to be more stable, but if I use it immediately after the Extreme, it sometimes won't mount on the iPhone.
ok ... that is strange ... how many frames does it drop / how do you notice it? Do you use the iPhone App or Blackmagic Camera App, ProRes HQ or ProRes LT? ... also sounds like a cable issue. Even on the Mac I had issue with a cable suddenly giving me bad write speeds.
I recorded using the built-in camera app. There is a short on my channel with two people dancing that shows the noticeable dropped frames. I used a Kondor Blue right-angle cable that supports USB 3.1 10 Gbps. I've tested other known good cables to rule that out as an issue.@@MichaelSchmidt_UrbnPxl I'm going to take my phone in to get it checked at the Genius Bar because the SanDisk issues tend to cause my phone to have lingering USB-C connection issues. While testing yesterday, after using the SanDisk drives, my port would intermittently drop the connection even for charging.
wow...I have both Samsung and Sandisk but I prefer Samsung. The Sandisk gets very hot while operating. I guess you were recording the highest Pro Res quality when the Samsung dropped framess? I want to use it to record Pro Res LT at 4k60....I hope it works flawlessly
I was recording at the highest quality, 4K 30. I recently purchased the only drive Apple sells out of their store that is "compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It's a LaCie Secure 2TB. It matches the specs with another version that LaCie sells. It's been rock solid, even at 4K Pro Res 422 HQ 60 fps. It's the same drive they show in their own promotional videos, but they removed the branding.@@TheFandangovideoguy
Thanks a lot! I have no experience to use some ssd for ip15pro and I would like to know your opinion about to use dji om + some ssd or flash to record prores hq, how and where can I attach and which drive to use
Could you please comment on the quality differences between H265 and Pro Rez LT? Is there a difference in bit depth of recording? Thank You! I appreciate your videos!
@@pdcorlis the Crucial X9 Pro is equal to the Samsung T7 even a bit faster on a Mac (not on the iPhone there its basically the same) i thing the T7 just has a better form-factor to be used with the phone in all kinds of different mounting solutions
thanks ... well so far I actually did not notice any real big difference for small quick edits ... with ProRes LT you might have more "data" if you have to push the color grade ... with h265 you might see more banding in gradients (sky for example) or artifacts in the shadows for example with ProRes you will have more "organic" noice ... h265 might not be able to retain those details
@@2allanator well ExFat works too but in my experience APFS works better … has less issues might be a bit faster for consistent or sustained read/write
Can you update this video ? If you find more options. Any s24 ultra options? Beacuse we can have motioncam and black magic on s24 ultra now. Sorry for my english.

Thank you for this update... very helpful!
Thank you for your informative videos and the work that you put into your videos
Thanks for sharing. What do you think of the Crucial SSD? Do you also have experience with the LaCie SSD, or is the Samsung T7 better?
i'm using Crucial X9 Pro and Samsung T7 ... both are great ... I dont have any experience with LaCie SSD's

Did you try ??
thanks... the T7 or T7 Shield will not fit ... it really is kinda made for the Crucial X9 Pro ... which is a great SSD ... as good as the Samsung T7
Thanks from Brazil

Transcend also make identically lookinh SSD pendrive. It is 1.5 x faster then JetFlash model so perhaps it would sufficem

Can I use crucial to transfer photo video from my iPhone? Or record videos/pics straight to crucial?
you can do both ...having said that you can't shoot photos to the SSD directly
