    This looks pretty awesome! Kinda covers all the bases...
    - 1 tb Storage ✅
    - Port for wireless mic ✅
    - USB-C PD for battery bank ✅
    Now, if they could take that, and build it into an ergonomic grip, with a mount for an anamorphic, it would be perfect.

      @@BCE-111 Yeah, I 3d printed a case for some other drives and hubs, but they were still a little clunky, this one is so much smaller, that I think it might be possible to create a compact system where you just slide the phone into it.
      I think there was another project that was trying to create a grip of some sort...Michael did a video on that, but I don't know its current status
      it's actually pretty cheap to get this lexar one though, and its useful to have a 2TB drive even without its phone use.

      @@MaximoJoshua I have an Adonit grip that I like as it has a bluetooth shutter release right on it. But I don't think it would work with this straight up with the hub. It is open along the bottom where the C port is though, so I can probably use the SSD itself although the C connector is offset. Was trying to think of different ways to make it work. But as mentioned just having so small a 2TB SSD is valuable in itself. Right now I have 2 2TB SAMSUNG T7 Shield drives and one 4TB one. Paid $100 and $120 for the 2TB ones now selling for $180. And paid $230 for the 4TB one now selling for $315. So I'm good. :) Looking forward to receiving it to see how it works. Hope it can maintain continual longer shoots without dropping frames. Same specs though as the SAMSUNG T7 Shield drives.

    I keep hitting your videos Michael and enjoying them. Though doing this puts food on the table for you and your family, you are one of the very few that come across like you’re doing a late night infomercial. Or just sounding like you don’t even believe a thing that’s coming out of your mouth. I hope you can appreciate my compliment and what it does for people that rely on these reviews before they buy something that may be very expensive for them. I thank you for that sir.
    I’m fascinated with what Lexar is doing in this segment which is rapidly picking up speed. I think this product appears to be an impressive piece of engineering and for what it does, will be a game changer for so many consumers. I almost hit the buy button after the first minute of your video, but got to thinking how very much I like to leave a case on my phone at all times. I actually drop mine from time to time. So I’ll stick to the slightly more cumbersome method of larger and heavier (slightly) components with clamps and wires until such a time they make this kind of amazing small solutions that are usable with nutty persons such as myself that want to keep their case on.
    Again, thanks for your reviews and allowing us to see what gear you claim to use frequently, which suits my tastes very well. You give some great ideas to change some of my current stuff around and based on your recommendations, I think there’s integrity and good taste in your choices.
    Cheers brother and make hay!

    If I were you Michael, I’d ask who makes the drive? Is it proprietary ? Or is it mass market?
    The reality is that’s footage and it’s precious. You don’t entrust all your work to untrusted, untested, unknown drive resource simply because you like the form factor.
    That form factor has me thinking it’s the Western Digital SN770M NVMe drive. It’s small enough to be that. And if it’s that drive … it’s got a 90% fail rating on Amazon. I’ve had a few of those small form factor 1 tb drives and I’ve never had one that actually worked. Except for the Samsung packaged drives.

    i wish they had a minimal setup that allowed you to use a case. doesn't work for me as i don't want to remove my case every time i want to film, but still dope that these kinds of things are being made!

      @@initialfocus weird I guess i can’t find that shot! I see how it can work with the long cable, but the more minimalist setup doesn’t seem like it would, at least with the Peak Design case, but maybe I just can’t tell from the videos and photos.

    So what if (like 95% of phone users), you have a case? The USB looks short so won't reach the port and that small gap is too thin for most cases.

    Hey Michael, I want to say that this is actually a product I love and would love to own but unfortunately I haven’t had the best luck with Lexar. I’ve shot weddings for close to seven years now and over the course of seven years I’ve had freshly new. Lexar cards fail on me one of which have been at a wedding. I have also had fellow videographers and photographers. Tell me how they have had Lexar cards fail on them.
    So as much as I would love this product, I’m just a bit put off by Lexar.
    Great video however

  • @gregfd
    @gregfd 3 місяці тому

    This SSD looks great and the early bird discount is tempting. I get that Lexar is sponsor of the video but any additional information on this thing? Does this overheat like crazy? Is the speed good enough and on par with larger form factor ssd? Is this a valid solution to use on a computer (it can be very useful to use on a laptop without cables dangling)

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  3 місяці тому +2

      Hasn’t overheated on me and I just got back from a couple day trip where I filmed A TON with it. SSD seems on par for speeds with all over fast drives now days. I loved using it directly from the phone to my iPad to my Mac. Seamless small and quick. Sponsor or not if there were any major red flags I would mention it in the video. The only caution I will throw out is I’ve only had it for about a month so all I can honestly say is so far it’s my favorite iPhone SSD setup so far.
