It is good way of SOIC and QFP package soldering indeed. Small knife tip also works well for that. Just soldered LM324ADT in SOIC-14 package in a way as displayed here. Super clean soldering in result.
It's ok to do this if you cover everything in flux yourself. If you're using flux-core solder (without separate flux) and you try to use solder already on the iron to make a joint, it'll probably give you a dry joint.
Andrew Horton It’s not “hate”, it’s legitimate criticism. This guy is better than a total beginner, but his technique is not great. In particular, he goes back and reworks joints over and over, which actually makes them worse, since the prolonged heating causes a) oxidation, and b) increased dissolving of the base metal (of the component lead and the PCB pad), which changes the composition of the solder in the joint. These two things together make bridges and other flaws much more likely to happen. Honestly, what this guy is exceptionally skilled at is filming the process, not actually at the soldering itself! There are better tutorials on UA-cam (e.g. John Gammell, PACE Worldwide, and EEVblog) in terms of teaching you the skills.
will this solder paste increase the short circuit possibility between pins? My board have arcing when power up, suspected to be short circuit pins. Hope to have your advise, thank you!
saiiiiiii1 Tip shape and flux. Just don’t reheat the same joints over and over like he does - that causes oxidation and increases the risk of bridges. (The very first joint he does in this video is an example of this: it was perfect on the first try, and yet he went back at it over and over, and the extra heat caused oxidation and a bridge.) Look at the EEVblog and Ganssle videos on drag soldering for a much better explanation.

Make the legs drawn in solder, connect them all together, and then use heatgun and soldering machine to liquify the solder. After that poke the chip to a side.
Flux is used to chemically reduce the metal oxide layer on top of the parts to be soldered and therefore contributes to a solid and clean solder joint. In practice, almost no soldering application in electronics would be possible without it. The commonly used halogen-free rosin flux , if inhaled, should be a bit less toxic than passive smoking.

pretty horrible lol... just put some solder paste(before or after as long as you don't put too much) on the pins first then place the chip on there and from outside add a little bit of flux and use the heat gun to heat up the connection and just use tweezers for minor adjustments to place the chip in place. A professional should have done it within 30 seconds. lol Note: for solder tip use ETKN type is much easier than this and is a lot easier to remove solder bridges from any components on board. I personally use ETKN for 97% of my work, the rest of 3% of when I have to deep clean some chips on board and the only option is the solder wick (for components such as CPU , North Bridge, on-board memory chip, ect).
P.S. Воспользуйтесь Google Translate

Also, I guess, because solder tends to stick to metal parts, similar to how water (liquid) surface tension works.
Maxim C. It only does because of the flux. Without flux, the oxidation causes it to blob up and refuse to flow and wet the joint.

You are an artist with a soldering iron and flux.
