I had a rough time in the beginning. Almost pulled off the comeback. Definitely had fun though being with Kosmic, Roy, and Bob up there on stage. Hope you enjoyed the Fire Mario costume ;)

GunvorPlays it's a tradition every time I run a Mario game at any speedrunning event :) I started doing this since Calithon 2017 when I raced darbian, duckfist, and r3dninjajosh.

It's not often that I get to play something with over 100,000 people watching. Even with that bad run, I had a lot of fun.

34:34 - a lot more people than you think are finger users...and I've even seen a number of speedrunners at GDQ do the same. I've done it since I first held an NES controller...usually settling it on the lap or claw gripping with my thumb.
If Kosmic is the same, the hardest part for him is probably using the thumb on the dpad...and the way he plays it seems that way.
The way Bob just comically jumps to his death at 11:31 made me laugh more than it should have. 😂

There was indeed a one handed NES controller.
Damn Kosmic playing better with one Hand than me with both.
So help me understand here: at 24:00 retrobob is leading supersonic by about 20 seconds and supersonic dies which should make the lead even bigger. However retrobob misses a "wrong warp" (or whatever it's called) just shortly after 24:00 when entering the pipe with the flying fish and therefore warping back to the beginning instead of the swim part. This makes the lead only a few seconds since super sonic respawns shortly after, also at the beginning of the stage where retrobob just had accidetally warped back to. Did i get it?
The first pipe you see at the start of 8-4 is where he went back to after missing the wrong warp. He was too short in the turnaround room which caused him to go back to the beginning to the level and make it seem like I caught up a lot after the death I had in the level. He definitely would've been at least 50 seconds ahead if he didn't miss that, but it ended up being around 5-6 seconds.

Does Sonic play SMB1 because he dresses that way, or does he dress that way because he plays SMB1? I loved watching Sonic play the blind Mario Maker relay a few years back.
Whenever I get a Mario game in a speedrunning marathon like GDQ, I dress up for the occasion. It's a tradition I made ever since my first marathon race against darbian at Calithon 2017. As for playing Mario and being called Sonic, long story short, it's one of my first speedgames when I started 2 years ago and the name SuperSonic was an old AIM name I used.

I hope none of there NES consoles soft lock or turn of like last time.

If you get hit on the same frame you touch the axe in a bowser level with your state as big mario, it creates a glitched state. Next mushroom makes you small, and the next power up after is a fire flower, which works in this small state.
