"Serious" answer, it's a real fun game to play for sure, rubber banding is broken and you can lose a race cus of bad luck. The game has a random chance of crashing in a lot of places, including loading screens. 7/10 - Perfect.

I love how the language glitch just causes Aku Aku to come out of your kart, glare at you judgmentally for a second or two, then just vanish in a puff of smoke.

ya and moments before someone gave $50 to ask how he felt about Jax X and no response was given.
I noticed. He must have been super focused at that point, but it's too bad someone on the couch didn't ask him during the next downtime.
Unfortunately it seems quite common for runners and the couch to be a bit aloof when it comes to acknowledging donation comments unless they're from people they know.
Splinks about the Jak X one, the runner answered it on his Twitter and clarified that he didn't hear it
none of us on the couch or the runner could hear her, game sound was overpowering

Growing up in the 90s with a Playstation, meant this was my 'Mario Kart' as a child. Would be awesome to see this remade in the same way the original Crash trilogy is later this year.

The Karters is a game on steam that is inspired by CTR and it has the same mechanics and also 4 player split screen and online multiplayer.

He nailed it. The boss heads switching with that language glitch on PAL was fucked. So was the timing when the donator was talking about his grandpa dying of 3 types of cancer right when the dude beat the Pinstripe/Komodo Cronenberg monster boss and everyone clapped. Talk about a rough landing. Great run.
If CTR is ever remade. It'd be nice for Nitros Oxide to become playable as he was originally intended to be

WOW! I played the shit out of this game as a kid and I NEVER noticed that "turbo gauge" bar thing.
I always liked Ripper Roo or Fake Crash.
Did you know that the game tries to load the japanese language when you do the language glitch? The japanese version is the only one which uses "1 lap to go!" instead of "last lap", which is why the number 1 and the exclamation point show up.
Another hint is that the CTR tokens are changed to CBR with the language glitch. That coresponces to Crash Team Racing's japanese name, Crash Bandicoot Racing.
My theory is that Naughty Dog implemented references and pointers to japanese language in the PAL version, to use that as the base for the japanese release.
They implemented the whole language in the game.
It's just that European CTR don't have the font to display it.
Try saving a ghost in time trial and go check out your memory card content.

This game is literally programmed into my muscle memory. Played it so goddamn much as a kid i ended up beating the boss by a bit more than 2 laps ahead i think.

I am in awe at your incredible skills. You might as well have been racing Oxide's Ghost in every track.
I do wonder if they'll keep the unintended shortcuts.
Wouldn't be surprised if they did, and added a playstation trophy called:
Cheater! - Use an unintended shortcut.
Even if not a trophy, probably a crowd of 'Boo!'s or 'Ooooh!'s after you've done one, kinda like how the audience in Tiny's Boss fight in Warped throws cheese at you if you hide in the corner to avoid the lions.
I believe all of the unintended shortcuts have been removed, for the sake of balancing online multiplayer.

Also tiger temple trick is to have a bubble and a tnt/nitro crate and release the bubble to the door then place the crate on it and it will not close.
So my understanding of the boss cutscenes being messed up is this:
Game loads boss’ body, based on a variable telling it which cutscene it is.
Game loads boss’ head animation, based on a variable telling it which animation it is. This variable isn’t directly connected to the cutscene number, which makes sense since multiple animations would be used per cutscene.
Some animations (mostly talking) have a language variable. When the game reaches a new animation, it checks the global language variable against that of the animation. If they don’t match, the game skips to the next animation. Usually this would result in the game skipping past the animations for other languages, only landing on the correct animations for the current language.
When no language is selected however, these checks always fail, so the game will continue skipping forward until it reaches an animation without a language variable. This means the game runs through head animations faster than it’s supposed to, forcing it to move on to the next boss’ animations instead, while the body animations continue as normal.
BATTLE MODE was part of why this is one of the greatest games of all time

I could play this game almost as good as this in my golden age, but now not that good anymore but two shortcuts was actually new for me. Coco is best character by far!

CTR Nitro Fueled is set for a June 2019 release, and will be developed by the same developers as Spyro Reignited Trilogy. There might be some Crash Nitro Kart content thrown in to the CTR remaster, such as the four vehicle types from the former.

since i was very little i was playing this game a lot,A LOT with my friends,who knows how many hours we spent on this game,drinking coca cola and eating salty chips
but we never took time to figure out these shortcuts,we knew only few,and now i thought that i was good in this game so i am just watching being shocked,its like 3 shortcuts and BOOM lap is over,damn it,if i only knew this back then

N.Gin labs forever all time favorite track. Became even better once I saw speedrunners using the super speed pad. There is an ingame cheat code for CTR that makes all boost pads super.

I recently started playing ctr again for when nitro fuled comes out, I can't do that oxside station skip how do you make it look so easy!
The skip before space, you need to build up reserves and take the boost pads because you want to get sacred fire for a cleaner jump but max speed can do the jump, powerslide off the last boost pad before you to the top like exactly at the boost pad, jump off at the inclineand turn hard left.

Usually, it takes me 30 minutes to get to the end of the 9th race (which is the first race of the third zone(snowy zone)) , and he got there in 24 minutes.
Need to improve my times.
His use of Speedghosts (Downhills) is unbelieveable good!
I got a time like yours, but it is easily improveable by learning when to use speedboostpads and when to drive next to them, i guess :o

Well if your copy doesn't work, don't feel bad about downloading it off of emuparadise or something then.
I shaved off more than 15 seconds on ngin labs using USF. It's a really nice trick! What's really hard to do are downhill speedghosts tho...
Just remember that emulator runs are several minutes slower than PAL on console.
They shouldn't be tho (unless your emulator is misconfigured or if there's something I'm missing like a slower tick rate). I was running the NTSC version on the POPS emulator on my PS2 when I did my run, ran pretty much fine.
I'll do it on my PS1 next time.
The thing is speedruns use Fast Disk Speed, a PS2 feature that cut by half every loading times.
Multiply that by every loading of the game (around 40), and you quickly arrive to several minutes worth of save.
So yeah, emulator can't keep up the pace for speedruns.
BTW. NTSC is not the best version for speedrun, PAL is (for reasons explained in the run and just look Komodoe Joe)

Once again, the couch really let down the runner with this one. I get that not everybody can be great at public speaking, but the runner was carrying the whole thing.
I was one of the guys on the couch. The guy on the other end and myself had our mics muted so we couldn't talk if we wanted to lol. Notice how when the couch was asked a question from a donator that we didn't answer, because we literally couldn't because they wouldn't hear us. We could barely hear the announcer anyways, with how low the volume was in our headsets
Why did this happen? Why didn't anyone get up and get a replacement or discuss with whoever was responsible of audio?
Out of that entire group of people behind us, Natty and I were the only ones who have actually taken this game seriously. The two guys on the ends of the couch were just there to fill the couch. I wasn't very comfortable co-commentating the run because this isn't my main speedgame. I had around 3-4 months of experience with it, on and off over the course of almost a year prior to the event. I know the strats and all, but I'm just not able to commentate it so naturally like Natty, who has run the game for much longer than I have.

This speedrun has some quite useful info to make my time trials faster like that the downhill boost can be extended with jumping and some other tips. What i still cannot do tho, is that turning in the air smoothly which you need for example in hot air skyway, cortex castle, and especially for Turbo track. My turbo track time completely sucks cause the tripple turn for me just sucks. Any tips how to do that?
