Yes, this was an online concert that fans bought "tickets" to watch the stream. They did 6 such concerts between July 2020 and May 2021 during the pandemic.
Miku is not only the rhythm guitarist, second singer and founder, she is also the lyricist and manager of the group. She is also a professional poker player.
Mincho just became the 1st Japanese artist to ever be awarded signature PRS guitar. It was done at a special event where Paul Reed Smith was comparing new guitars to old. He called Mincho onstage where they talked about the ones she used, when Paul surprised her with her signature model. All the MAIDS were in attendance and it was very emotional.
This was part of a live streamed concert, they did a few of them during Covid, so no audience. Miku has that effect on a lot of people lol. It’s hard to watch her and not smile. To be fair, all five of them have that effect on me 😂.
You are so right about Miku - often overlooked by new fans, she is actually the founder and beating heart of Band Maid, the one who originally envisioned a band dressed as maids playing hard rock and who set aside her own fledgling career as a J-Pop idol to pursue her true passion (not to mention putting aside any ego and accepting that Saiki has a voice more suited to lead the band) .... for a better appreciation of her personality, check out some of her "Omajanai Time" clips - this is the part of their live show where the band takes a break while Miku engages/entertains the crowd with her antics - they're mostly improvised and shows how she is a born entertainer! ua-cam.com/video/1XL3ICbJEgo/v-deo.html
J-LOD is a Japanese government subsidy program for promoting Japanese culture overseas. It was altered during Covid for obvious reasons to include things like livestreaming and so on. To qualify, videos had to be at least 5 minutes long, which is why these two songs are put together. The Day of Maid is a real(ish) thing in Japan; surprisingly it's not just a Band-Maid thing. It's because May 10th can be read as Mai do, which is the same English loan word for "maid".
I love Miku playing to the camera, wagging her finger and pointing. You should check out "Onset" live for even crazier lighting and a killer instrumental.
There is one other 2 song release from the J-LOD program (Manners/Black Hole) you should check out. Manners is a great bluesy rock throwback and Black Hole? Well… you’ll see.
Miku has become a terrific guitarist over the years. During their last couple of shows in Japan, some of the highlights included Miku and Kanami back to back alternating leads. Also during "No God" MISA, Miku, Kanami, and Akane all sharing solos one after another.
Yes, the Online Okyu-jis were during the COVID Clampdown to they were LIVE-To-Tape, so to speak, even though no tape was used. No audiences. There's another one with 'Manners' and 'Black Hole' if you haven't seen it. If you like Miku's Vibe check out some of her songs, like 'Rock In Me' or 'Sayonakidori' especially the acoustic version and even her solo stuff as Cluppo.
I love Kanami's face during her Dice solo where she misses a note. She plays on, and a second later gets this wry smile like, "Welp." Even geniuses are human.
The DIFFERENT OMV was the introduction of BAND-MAID’s new sound. To understand what’s going on here, watch the OMV for UNLEASH, which tells the story of a Small Pigeon who rallied a band of maids that launched a campaign for World Domination. But just as all the pieces were falling in place, including a scheduled high-profile “one-man” concert at Budokan, the pandemic cast a dark shadow across the globe, scuttling BAND-MAID’s plans. But the MAIDS were not deterred. They launched a new campaign, using the Internet to stay in touch with their fans and to win new ones, posting on UA-cam songs from concert films, supporting the work of reaction channels, creating special video content for their fan club, and producing several online concerts. When things returned to normal, the band emerged stronger than ever, performing live again, and embarking on a year-long Tenth Anniversary Tour which brought them to the U.S. twice, including a set at LOLLAPALOOZA, and wrapping up finally in November 2023, at YOKOHAMA ARENA. They’ve been busy in 2024, as well, with concerts throughout, another anime theme (PROTECT YOU) and collaborations with INCUBUS (BESTIE) and THE WARNING (SHOW THEM.
They can play even faster tempo. Check out Black Hole from the same concert (Manners is on the same video). Not for a reaction video, a Miku lover would want to watch her Omajinai Time from some of their concerts (each one is different).
You should check out "Choose Me". This is the song that captured the interest of The Warning and one of my favorites. I recommend the official video with subtitles.
For me Miku shares a lot with Dolly Parton, Lucille Ball and Betty White, like those talents Miku has a somewhat cultivated ditzy persona but underestimate her at your peril, whip smart, driven, dynamic, hard working, consumately professional, a born entertainer and wonderfully inspirational Po 👍🍻
Lead singer is even more powerful and versatile now. Check out The One and Tamaya! from their latest album Epic Narratives. You can enjoy Miku and Saiki's harmony match made in heaven and Saiki's even more expressive vocal delivery. Miku takes more prominent role as a guitarist (not just as a rhythm guitarist) as well. Saiki wrote lyrics for 4 songs on this album too.
Dice is just quintessential, hard rock Band-Maid at its finest. However, DICE isn't as different as Different is different. Nor is Different as dicey as Dice is dicey. 🤔But one thing's for sure... both are different as dice! 😉 Thx, Bo!
Band-Maid did several Online Okyuji (servings) during the Covid pandemic. My favorite is the one from 2-11-2021. Everything about it is top notch. I don't think there is a band that features the bass more than Band-Maid does. If you like the faster paced songs then check out Rinne, No God, Moratorium, and Black Hole.
@Bodenmaddox I am also a fan of The Warning but I have never heard Ale play a bass solo. She does play some very short intros on a few songs. I do agree that her bass playing is prominent in their audio mix and it sounds great. Excellent band all around.
They performed several live streams during covid. This was one. They debuted their song to the fans About Us during this show. It's emotional.

All hail the mighty Pigeon!
And centuries old pigeon spirit.

Miku is an engine of Band Maid, always full of positive energy!!! And also she is the cutest rock star in the world!
This was part of a live streamed concert, they did a few of them during Covid, so no audience.

Nice one Po 👍🍻

Yes, Miku (Red rose)- As you said- Founder/Lyrics/Backing Vocals/Rhythm guitar/ promotion manager (Magic Spell Time). A complete bundle of energy.
The faster the tempo the more Ah-chan smiles! Thanks for the reaction!

But did you notice how Saiki looked straight at me down the camera lens. Yes, just at me. Once in each song. Bless her sweet little heart.
💜💛❤💙💚
Thank you for giving Miku❤ the praise she deserves. Not many reactors do that.
I love Kanami's face during her Dice solo where she misses a note. She plays on, and a second later gets this wry smile like, "Welp." Even geniuses are human.
Nice touch. Not being that familiar, I didn't even notice. 😂

Miku's backup vocal is super important in another 2 in 1 Live MV, Manners and Black Hole.

This is a live show that was sent out to the whole world at Corona with no audience, no cheers, etc., but it's a completely live show!
Different was written as an anime theme song.
U should do Manners/Black Hole from the same online concert next.
I'll write that down. Thanks.

As a big fan of The Warning, I can assure you at least one band features the bass as much as Band-Maid. 😀

Hello Sir
Hello
4:30 Great musicians can be boring. Miku saves Band-Maid.
