Jacob Freedman glad to hear these old vids are still helping people. You must have so much fun playing her songs in a band. If you have any recordings on YT pls forward me a link, would love to have a listen 😉 God bless
Thanks so much for these videos, they've bettered me as a guitar player not just because of all these new chords but you explain it very well, keep it up :)
I've been really wanting to learn the guitar and all of your tutorials inspire me even more! Since I'm new to this I'm not exactly sure what's the best guitar for beginners. Do you have any suggestions? What guitar is that you play? Thanks! :)
Hey, glad to hear the lessons have been helpful. In terms of a beginner guitar I always recommend the Yamaha F310 as a starting point (I use one in the following tutorials: Back for Good, How Great Is Our God & Dock of The Bay). It's a really well made guitar for the price, sounds great & is very easy to play! Once you've tried it you can test out a few more and compare the pros and cons. Even though you're a beginner you will know what sounds/feels good, so take your time and decide what is best relative to everything you've tried. Hope this info is useful (,")
Nice lesson, very clear and easy to follow! On the A7#5 for the pre-chorus though, is there a reason you're choosing not to play the A string as the root note and choosing to wrap your thumb around to hit the A on the Estring (5th fret)..? Just curious as it feels a bit uncomfortable to play it that way, less stress just to use the open A as the root note! Thanks for the video!
Hey! Thanks to you I was able to sing and play this wonderful song! In case you wanna check it out: Half Time - Julie Ramos (Amy Winehouse Cover) It was really fun learning it. Next on my list it "Till It Happen to You" haha Thanks!
Great lesson bro, I was wondering could you do a lesson for "Help Yourself" by Amy Winehouse please. I've figured out the verse but I'm a bass player so I need your expertise cause now I'm stuck !!! Thanks
Dean Davis Hey man, I haven't posted in quite a while as I've been super busy. Thanks for this challenge though, I've been meaning to attempt a new song over the summer. I just spent about 45 mins working out the chords & best voicing, I'll put a tutorial up next week. In the meantime here are the chords I use.... Verse ||: AMaj7 | Dmaj7 | C#m7 | E7 :|| x3 | AMaj7 | Dmaj7 | C#m7 | F#7b9 | Pre Chorus | Bm7 | E7 | Bm7 | E7 | Chorus ||: AMaj7 F#m7 | Bm7 E7 | AMaj7 F#m7 | Bm7 E7 :|| Bridge | DMaj7 | D#dim7 | AMaj7 E5/G# | F#7 | | DMaj7 | D#dim7 | Bm7 | E7 | F#7b9 x9898x D#dim x6757x E5/G# 4xx45x
Hi, I've always used D'Addario EJ16's Light Gauge .012-.053. I can't say that they're better than other brands, but they've always been a great choice for me.
Hey! really cool lesson but i'm just a bit confused as to the song chart because you've written Amaj7 as x03230 but the way you're playing it shouldn't it be x02120? No one else has commented on it which makes me think I might be going crazy but if you could help me out if i'm missing something that would be great! Thanks
You're completely right Meg, I miss wrote the tab for the Amaj7 - it should be x0212x plucking the middle 4 strings. Strange that it went un-noticed of so long. Thanks for pointing it out (,")
Um... where's the C# diminished chord in the first bar...? In the verse, the root note on the "and" of beat 3 (on the first syllable of the word "guitar", for example) clearly goes up to a C#, moving into the D minor chord, but you're staying on C there.
Hey nice video! Just wanted to mention I think the first few chords of the tune are actually Amaj7, Bm7b5, Cmaj7, C#dim7, Dm9. Hope that helps anyone learning this killer tune.
You're right: It's B minor seventh, flat 5th, not B FLAT minor seventh, flat 5th, as the man here says; AND he leaves out the C sharp diminished seventh (Just frags on the D minor ninth....or is it D minor sixth? I'll go back and check)....either way, dude, YOU SHOULD BE DOING this tutorial. You are quite nice and humble.
Yeah this video isn't satisfactory, but this song is extremely challenging to learn with different voicings happening all over the place. Thanks for the help, my ears aren't really cutting it on this one right now.
Thank God for this guy. I'm in an Amy Winehouse tribute band and man this helps when if I don't have a chart!!

Thanks a ton, great job. 1 question, when it hits the D7 and holds it sounds like there is another transition chord before the Amaj7?

Thanks for the video!
+Louie Thurlbeck The thumb over makes it a movable chord - so more practical to ply the route on the Low E.
ah I see, useful, thanks!
Nice one. Only problem, I never can use my thumb over the neck because it is too small.
Es perfecto! Por favor, quiero este vídeo traducido en español!
