Hello folks! Hope you enjoyed my look into ePSXe against Duckstation - A Highly requested video! Again I had no choice to use ePSXe Version 1.9.0, Version 2.0.5 would not work no matter what I tried! Regardless thank you for watching!
They could always update it (Unlikely lol) But I always say even though I prefer Duckstation, nothing is wrong with ePSXe if people are still using that :)
I'm an old ePSXe user from way back... & Even 6 years ago it had it's issues. I was using it on my phone with a Bluetooth controller & it overheated most phones I played it on; but duckstation kinda just owns it... on Android at least. Really enjoyed the video
It's really good on all platforms ^^ I've never used the android version of Duckstation, but as a long-time user of ePSXe on myself, Duckstation was just an awesome jump ^^
@@TheAffroShowGameplay not only that but ePSXe has a price tag in the Play store I mean it's like under $5 but I'm not really sure what that can get you considering....
@@TheAffroShowGameplay extremely well made emulator, epsxe can't hold candle to duckstation, from precision to easy to use, all very well explained in settings, better widescreen support, way better graphic options and not as much infamous ps1 flickering effect, although props to the epsxe guys, it served me very well for years.
As a long time EPSXE user Duckstation is just infinitely better due to all the sprite precision features it has alone. The sprite wobble and flicker really drove me nuts on epsxe.
Interestingly, the wobble is actually PS accurate. Diehard PS players may prefer it even though it was a major limitation of the original hardware and is most definitely inferior.
The only reason I can see for using PSXe is if you've always preferred it because that's what you're comfortable with, and/or you insist on using real disks. Sometimes the classics (emulators in this case) do get outclassed by newer choices. That doesn't make PSXe any less legendary though.
Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with ePSXe although Duckstation is much better & easier to run :) Still if you are happy with ePSXe, keep using it is what I say :)
On Android that really isn't the case. I like to use .pbp for my PS1 games. Not only does it compress the games but also lets you combine discs into a single image, so less clutter (one file instead of two for Grandia for example). ePSXe sees each disc in the image separately and so you can launch the second disc of Grandia straight from the menu. You can't do that with Duckstation as it only sees the first disc in the image, you can disc swap once the game has loaded but it's been very hit or miss for me.
My first encounter with PS emulation was just finding one of those black PS discs on the street 20 years ago, picking it up, and putting it into my PC; upon discovering that my PC can physically read the disc, but not execute it, and googling (just barely no longer altavista-ing) around, i found people have made some headway, so this made me determined to make it run. The emulator at the time, PSEmu Pro, was an absolute torture, it was prone to crashing if you even just looked at it wrong. I did have a pretty nice computer, it was pretty new, i fished it out of a dumpster but it had a fresh really fast Athlon 800 MHz and 128MB SDRAM and a TNT2 (soon to be replaced by a Geforce 2mx), so i was well equipped. The computer suffered a power supply explosion, i think a Chieftec, it even had a freshly exploded stank on it, this is how it ended up thrown away, but the mainboard, RAM and the CPU survived, and i had plenty of other components to get it going again. Optical drive, hard disk and GPU in there were toast and needed to be replaced, as well as the power supply. A couple years later, thanks to EJ's GPU plugin, i had emulation going full speed on an old laptop which was also discarded, that was a Pentium MMX, not sure which speed grade, but must have been between 166 and 233 MHz. The performance gap between a Pentium MMX and Athlon is several times larger than the frequency suggests, it's immense. Getting that sort of performance out of an MMX is astounding. This fills me with hope that maybe we can take the crummiest hardware there is, like the F1C100s chip found in the recent SEGA Game Gear Micro, or at least Pi Zero, and optimise the emulator enough to reach full speed reliably, which it doesn't quite reach on Pi Zero at the moment, and on F1C doesn't even get close. 11:35 that slight clicking doesn't make me entirely happy, not sure what it's down to - if it's unaffected by settings, perhaps it should be reported to the devs, maybe they want to take a look at that. Otherwise, duckstation sounds nicer, i think. Breath of Fire 4! One of the first games i found cheaply back in the day, played it, loved it. Though i personally don't think its style necessarily benefits from upscaling, they had a lot of art tricks going there to disguise the polygonal nature of the world at times, such as with foliage, and they tend to become more apparent when you run the game at higher resolution. Makes for a great handheld experience though!
Gosh I have so much to say but I do not know where to begin xD I guess it's awesome you know so much about these things, at least If I ask about something I can't figure out, you might know what the problem might be xD
Duckstation is absolutely awesome, especially when you consider PGXP integration and the fact that it can plays PAL Exclusives in NTSC mode without troubles. (Wip3out special edition for instance) such a dream came true 👍
That makes me want to replay Digimon World 3 (or rather, 2003, the title of its more complete PAL release). I seem to remember FRAPS showing the framerate as 50 when I turn the speedups off.
Most noticable difference you can hear in Chrono Cross. To get sound somewhat right on ePSXe i had to tinker with plugins, duckstation is right away perfect.
Besides the differences already noted ePSXe has a much higher tendency to crash than DuckStation and overclocking is where DuckStation's real advantage lies in, since Duckstation is using dynamic recompilation vs the interpreter that's used on ePSXe, the performance difference is massive the more you want to push what the PS1 could've been capable of, for example, say you want to run the PS1 Quake 2 port at 60 FPS, on ePSXe you can probably get roughly 40 FPS on a good scenario with a really good CPU, on DuckStation you can easily get 60 FPS on much weaker hardware Edit: forgot to mention, cheats that improve visuals beyond what's normally possible, you used Gran Turismo 2 in this video, what you didn't show was that DuckStation has a cheat that once combined with overclocking makes it seem like ePSXe is running a whole generation behind because you can make GT2 have: 60 FPS, widescreen, higher draw distance and have every car run at its highest possible quality, the difference is honestly insane
They have come along way & the overclocking features along with optional hacks make Duckstation a powerful tool & possibly the best way to experience PS1 games :)
duckstation is how the games looked to my 13 year old brain that had never seen an HD image or non pixelated 3d graphics on a CRT. So in some ways it's more accurate than real hardware because you can never see the games in that context again.
I can see what you mean aha, although truth be told I still rather play the games on my actual PS1 although with a upscaler like the OSSC with RGB Scart :) Still, Duckstation is incredible and I love seeing the games with all the new software Duckstation has to offer :)
CRT still looks better for 2D games though. And the blending of 3D and 2D like on Resident Evil is unmatched by emulators, just try on real hardware with a CRT, it still looks better than any emulator on a HD screen.
duck gives that shaper feel but can make things like the numbers in the racing game look a little blurry while ep is softer and more flat keeping the visuals similar to the original shape both have their flaws
After using both for a number of years & messing with other settings not disclosed in this old video, Duckstation is the better emulator by far with only one expection, it has nowhere near the amount of filters of ePSXe if this aspect matters :)
A fantastic video comparison. On PC I don't think there is a content, the obvious choice is Duckstation. I would however love to see a video comparison between the two when it comes to the Android versions.
im using epsxe 2.0.8 for android, been a duckstation user but epsxe has less input lag better sound and graphics look more psx to me. also it seems more responsive. also applies to pc version but epsxe pc might be trickier to get to work properly for some people.
Hmmm in terms of PC & I've used both extensively, I find Duckstation way easier to set up although the only thing I like about ePSXe is it has more filters but I feel Duckstation is far better for compatibility too :) As for Android; I will need to test & I'm hearing Duckstation is not as good for mobile:)
thank you for the video, especially nice selection of games to cover. kof98 and ace combat 3. those two games hit close to home back in my teen in early summer days
Thank you for doing this video. Sometimes it takes a person sitting you down and demonstrating a solid side-by-side for it to soak in. Honestly since ePSXe always had the highest compatibility with reliable graphics enhancements I simply dismissed all others which I now regret. I'm definitely going to try it out now 😇
I mean don't dismiss ePSXe because of Duckstation if it still works for you but, I do say that it is worth trying to see if you like the additional features it adds :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Nah you're good and I just tried it with R-Type Delta with the enhancements to which I'm super impressed. Unless it's a game that doesn't run with Duckstation I'm switching away from ePSXe now lol 😄
Oh no.. no no no.. the "wobbling of textures" was NEVER a charm for me. Back in the day I hated it and would rather stick to my old SNES. Eventually games became more amazing and I could let it pass under the rug but still didn't ever enjoy how graphics looked back then. Thank God Duckstation fixes that annoying thing.
I have no issue with it as it was just the look of a lot of PS1 games but, I will say it is nice to see it lessened or in some cases removed thanks to perspective correction:) But hey, that's why emulators like this exist right?
I was really enjoying beetle hw, but duckstation honestly blows it out of the water and seems less taxing on systems. Anyone ever run into problems with tomb raider 2 on duckstation even if you’re correctly loading the cue?
Ah I don't use the Android version so I can't give my experiences there but the PC version here is brilliant ^^ But I have been told Duckstation needs work on Android so, might need to look into it!
Sorry for the out of topic question, but could tell me how long do you generally take to make a video like this one? Besides that, thanks for making this comparison video, it must've been quite hard!
It all depends on how much detail I want to put in but, this video from start to finish including thumbnails & capturing gameplay took me 2 weeks to do :)
imagine going back in time and telling some one about duck station. you can play psx games in 8K!not to mention having every single game like 3 times over on a micro sd. i know my mind would have been blown
Racing Lagoon looks like a PS2 game with geometry correction, i like the no texture filter (it's like pixel art) and low resolution look of PSone games, but the lack of a Z buffer on the console (something that for most part geometry correction seem to fix) is something that bother me, because in some games, the texture and polygon warping is so constant and aggressive that it actually make my eyes sore, so glad it is now a problem that has been solved on emulation
Some games still have problems with wrapping textures but the perspective correction does minimise it and it's transformative in some games :) It's worth a try & Duckstation is amazing for it!
Ever try the beetle core in RA? I use the Hardware Render beetle core in RA when I use emulation, granted that's not very often anymore but I never had issues with it
I haven't yet but many people have strongly recommended the emulator to me & I will get round to using it soon, once I figure out how it works xD I'am interested as the results from it from the videos I've watched look pretty compelling!
@@TheAffroShowGameplay I would recommend it, the only downside is using RA which, and I dunno if this is a me issue but I don't really like the RA interface. Much prefer stand alone stuff like duck station. Might switch over. I only use emulation when im putting something on for the kids to use. I don't trust young kids with my increasing expensive retro gear
Ah that's fair, I like Duckstation for how it has so many features in one package & it's updated frequently ^^ I want more gaming consoles xD Wii U is next for me!
I just use duck station for a month, but It always get error in moving pad, it's auto click left or right that i can not control the keyboard, so i dont use it anymore, can you help me hơ to fix it?
Sadly I've never had an issue with Duckstation so I feel your best bet is to use Google:) See if anyone else has had the same problem & hopefully they found a solution ^^
@@TheAffroShowGameplay After a google search the executables are downloadable from the main site. Anyway anyone else tried the GTA1 bin and get the stuck screen? Other PS .BINS load and play....
Hi, are you familiar with the android version? The touch controls can be swapped between digital arrow controls and analog stick which is obviously better. It should make the character walk and run depending on how far you push the stick. But I couldn't do it in touch control. I can do it of I double tap, but that is almost useless because you have to do it every time you change rooms or let go for a second. And after that you have to be really quick and precise to turn running back on. It's just awful for just about any game. I tried Medievil. Very frustrating control. Would you know anything about that?
Unfortunately I have never touched the Android version so I can offer no help reguarding the issue you currently have:/ Hopefully someone else has had the same issue & either figured out how to fix the problem or the Duckstation team will issue an update soon to fix the issue:)
Hello great video, one question, what filter do you recommend in Duckstation ? and do you recommend for 2D games? I played MK Trilogy and the result is not good :(, (sorry for my bad english), Regards from Mexico.
It depends on what you like, I used the Nearest Neighbour option which I like because it gives off the sharpest results ^^ Yes serval 2D games were shown off in this video & looked good in my opinion:)
@@TheAffroShowGameplayThanks, I will try to try and choose the best option, I have already seen your videos with the configuration, to choose the best one.
I actually use real ps1 discs for time to time which makes me not quit epsxe. But after seeing this video I might switch to Duckstation for most games. How is duckstation doing with light gun games btw? Works great for epsxe (at least with retro shooter guns).
@Masansvarig Ah Duckstation is so far ahead & bearing in mind this video is years old now, Duckstation has improved since this was released :) It works fine with standard USB/Bluetooth controllers but I don't own a gun controller or anything like that so I can't answer that :) If you don't mind a controller, it works very well or as well as you'd expect 😊
@@TheAffroShowGameplay it's just my device cant run more than 2× resolution But the graphics is horrible when displayed on 1080 screen. In other emulator the shaders help me with LCD shaders So i can play low reso game with comfortable
Since I can play Bust A Groove with smooth graphics and no music out of sync without further configurations and tests, to me DuckStation is the winner, now if only I could play Bust A Move 99 with music.
Simple, just make sure the .cue files are with the .bin files when you move them & both sound & music will play :) If you have multiple tracks, just move everything into a folder & then just play the .cue file, the music & sound will play :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay i have tested 4k on mutiple pc games and have seen multiple vids comparing video of both 1440 vs 4k and the difference is small and I have seen vids comparing 8k vs 4k and the difference is real small so small that people have to look closely to see the differences So I would say the max resolution we can see a big change from 720p is 4k no need for anything higher
I've gotta be honest, i haven't touched 90% of the 3d PSX games because of the wobblyness. And while N64 games have no wobble problem, its textures look muddy&low quality due to the cartridge limit.
Ah it's all personal preference, I grew up with the system so I don't mind it but I know it does bother people :) Only played the N64 once in my life so don't really have much experience with it :o
How is Duckstation's game compatibility? As I recall, earlier versions of ePSXe had trouble running some obscure Japanese games, like some of the Macross games, the Pro Pinball games, and I think, Battle Arena Toshinden. These were corrected in later versions, but as Duckstation is newer, I can't help wondering if there are some games it doesn't run correctly.
I've tested a lot of different games on Duckstation and so far I've only hit one game that didn't start however, Duckstation gets updated frequently so, sometimes its worth trying the game again later after Duckstation gets updated :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplayI hadn't used ePSXe in a while and after watching a few comparison videos, I started thinking that its rendering wasn't that good. After trying Xebra (stuttered like hell!) and Mednafen (doesn't upscale the image at all), I went back to ePSXe and discovered that it looked a lot better than I remembered. It doesn't have perspective correction, but upscaled with higher graphics settings, the games look pretty nice to me. Of course I can't run the latest version of that either, but luckily the version I have is pretty compatible. Maybe it's not the greatest PS1 emulator, but it works pretty well for me. At least until I can afford to get a new(er) system. :)
I take it there are no X86 versions of DuckStation? Asking for the other two people who do not have an x64 pc yet since our next paycheck hasn't hit yet..
Probably not & sadly I no longer own a Windows PC at the moment so testing ePSXe again wouldn't happen for a while & to be honest I much prefer Duckstation at this point :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Yeah, I get that Duckstation is better - for PC. On Android, Duckstation actually is worse (Look up the channel Game Daddy. He made comparisons specifically for Android)
I've noticed that's a recurring trend, I've had quite a few people tell me this so, might need to do a Duckstation PC vs Android because ePSXe was good on mobile!
If it is still working fine for you, there's no need to change but Duckstation is free & easy to use so if you ever want to try it, it'll be always there :)
I do like duckstation even i didn’t use it yet but from what i see around the internet Duckstation is wining for me I give it try later , thank you for this video.
Use duckstation if you are playing on pc and xbox series s. Use epsxe if you are playing on android phones, tablets and TV boxes. Android devices are too weak and have compatability issues with games if you use and turn on duckstation enhancement settings. I find that duckstation often have issues when running 2d spirite games compared to using epsxe.
Sadly I can't test those since I only used both on PC but, I'll definitely keep all this in mind if I ever decide to use the emulators on anything else except PC :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay yeah I remember years ago I did it on my comp, so epsxe and pcsx , and probably millions of ppl done this already, I'm asking cause I'm curious for duckstation on my phone and aether, ( snapdragon 845, 6g ram)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay I saw yesterday the tomb raider anniversary on ppsspp on my phone, holy fuck man I always thought I'd play the first tomb raider if it was better graphics, well, now here we are
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Its xBR not xBRZ. I was one who contacted the developer, he rejected all of my criticism about filters, and how they can improve quality, he even tried to ask a lot of money for this work. 5 min work.. None of the less Duckstation is number 1.
Nothing wrong with that, ePSXe is still good although Duckstation's features & ease of use and it's optimised software make it just incredible at least in my eyes xD
I just stay away from PS1 emulation in general because the polygons are just janky no matter what we do. The emulators try their best but PS1 just is not meant to be upscaled.
I disagree personally, yes you are right, PS1 polygons will never be perfect but I like upscaling the graphics if only to see what happens:) I love my real hardware as well but, I love how we have choice & most emulators can look exactly like real hardware these days too if you want a more accurate look :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Yes that's what I meant about "not meant to be upscaled" - since the limited technology at the time cannot (and will never) cope with today's upscaling, unlike the way PS2 does for example. The polygons will always be janky in that sense.
Haha to be fair, I'd emulate the Wii port as the cutscenes look much better & has all of the PS2's extra content xD I actually did a video with RE4 against real hardware lol
Is this epsxe or Duckstation? If it's the former try an older version, if it's Duckstation, no idea as that works perfectly for me :) Best to use Google, it's better than asking me as I've had no issue with either emulator:)
"Several windows 10 updates have broken the emulator" Why not just use linux? It's way better. I quit windows when updates constantly broke my programs.
@@TheAffroShowGameplay How do you know it's not for you if you haven't given it a shot? You can still run many windows games on it, practically every popular emulator besides xenia also has native linux ports, including duckstation.
It's just not for me :) I don't want to commit myself to learning another operating system & I have too much on my Windows PC that I need at the moment:)
Duckstation is obviously superior when rendering 3D object, but both terrible looks terrible with a pre-rendered background, since the character models, stand out from the surroundings..
@@TheAffroShowGameplay if they minor why even change emulator? The only advantage of Duckstation is grid menu with games imo and easier to navigate interface. I agree that Duckstation is more comfy, and maybe it's good if you have big collections of iso's like me.

im using epsxe 2.0.8 for android, been a duckstation user but epsxe has less input lag better sound and graphics look more psx to me. also it seems more responsive. also applies to pc version but epsxe pc might be trickier to get to work properly for some people.
Hmmm in terms of PC & I've used both extensively, I find Duckstation way easier to set up although the only thing I like about ePSXe is it has more filters but I feel Duckstation is far better for compatibility too :)
As for Android; I will need to test & I'm hearing Duckstation is not as good for mobile:)
thank you for the video, especially nice selection of games to cover. kof98 and ace combat 3. those two games hit close to home back in my teen in early summer days
No worries mate & glad you enjoyed both the video and the games I chose to cover :)
@@thedrunkmonkshow That game does work with that game, tried it myself:)
Oh no.. no no no.. the "wobbling of textures" was NEVER a charm for me. Back in the day I hated it and would rather stick to my old SNES. Eventually games became more amazing and I could let it pass under the rug but still didn't ever enjoy how graphics looked back then. Thank God Duckstation fixes that annoying thing.
I have no issue with it as it was just the look of a lot of PS1 games but, I will say it is nice to see it lessened or in some cases removed thanks to perspective correction:)
But hey, that's why emulators like this exist right?
I was really enjoying beetle hw, but duckstation honestly blows it out of the water and seems less taxing on systems.
Anyone ever run into problems with tomb raider 2 on duckstation even if you’re correctly loading the cue?
It is definitely a great emulator :)
I've never used cue files on Duckstation, only ISO or BIN files, never realised cue files worked xD
My prob for duckstastion is the sounds hiccup specially Jrpg games. I'am using android sd 678. No prob on epsxe.
Ah I don't use the Android version so I can't give my experiences there but the PC version here is brilliant ^^
But I have been told Duckstation needs work on Android so, might need to look into it!
im convinced and im switching, dropping a like and a sub, great video.
Hope you enjoy using Duckstation, it is very, very good indeed!
The only thing I don't like in the EPSXE is the Dithering, making the Duckstation look Superior..
Both had their dithering disabled or enhanced in this video :)
It is incredible how far we've come & I love Duckstation!
11:14 Which game is this on PSX? Never seen it before.
It's in the video description, all games are on PS1 :)
It's Vagrant Story by the way :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay 🙏🏻😌 Thank you
No worries ^^
Racing Lagoon looks like a PS2 game with geometry correction, i like the no texture filter (it's like pixel art) and low resolution look of PSone games, but the lack of a Z buffer on the console (something that for most part geometry correction seem to fix) is something that bother me, because in some games, the texture and polygon warping is so constant and aggressive that it actually make my eyes sore, so glad it is now a problem that has been solved on emulation
Some games still have problems with wrapping textures but the perspective correction does minimise it and it's transformative in some games :)
It's worth a try & Duckstation is amazing for it!
Ever try the beetle core in RA? I use the Hardware Render beetle core in RA when I use emulation, granted that's not very often anymore but I never had issues with it
I haven't yet but many people have strongly recommended the emulator to me & I will get round to using it soon, once I figure out how it works xD
I'am interested as the results from it from the videos I've watched look pretty compelling!
Ah that's fair, I like Duckstation for how it has so many features in one package & it's updated frequently ^^
I want more gaming consoles xD Wii U is next for me!
6:46 is this the original aspect ratio of that game?
No that's 4:3 but this game has 16:9 wide-screen support which was used here :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay To use that support did you have to select aspect ratio on the game or DuckStation config?
@danielchisica6486 Selected it in Duckstation first then the actual game in it's options tab to activate wide-screen in game :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Would be the same if in DuckStation you select Auto(game-native) aspect ratio and then on the game select wide-screen?
@danielchisica6486 I'm not sure, it should be but sometimes it doesn't work as intended for toggling 16:9 games for some reason :)
Another great video. Thanks as always
I appreciate that mate ^^ Also good to see you again!
ePSXe is still good if you play PS1 games on old 4:3 notebooks or PC's
I feel Duckstation might be better optimized but, nothing wrong with either :)
Excellent done, never heard of DS before, thank you!!
Try it out, it's a fantastic emulator:)
Can I ask for the music used here? Really nice vid btw, setting up duckstation as we speak
Which part did the music play or do you mean the whole video? :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay I'm mostly curious about 0:58 and 3:18, thank you very much for replying
@masgaz9748 Ah once I get home I'll tell you what the songs are :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay I'm waiting in anticipation!

Latests EPSXE will NOT load GTA.BIN created with Imgburn and actual PS disc. Help.
Unfortunately I haven't used the emulator since this video & I no longer have access to it :/ Hopefully someone can help you with that!
Unfortunately I have never touched the Android version so I can offer no help reguarding the issue you currently have:/
Hopefully someone else has had the same issue & either figured out how to fix the problem or the Duckstation team will issue an update soon to fix the issue:)
Have someone played a patched iso or modified version of a game in Duckstation?
If you mean homebrew or English translations, they work fine in Duckstation:)
Hello great video, one question, what filter do you recommend in Duckstation ? and do you recommend for 2D games? I played MK Trilogy and the result is not good :(, (sorry for my bad english), Regards from Mexico.
It depends on what you like, I used the Nearest Neighbour option which I like because it gives off the sharpest results ^^
Yes serval 2D games were shown off in this video & looked good in my opinion:)
@@TheAffroShowGameplayThanks, I will try to try and choose the best option, I have already seen your videos with the configuration, to choose the best one.
@@keeperofneweden Hope it helps you mate :)
I actually use real ps1 discs for time to time which makes me not quit epsxe.
But after seeing this video I might switch to Duckstation for most games.
How is duckstation doing with light gun games btw?
Works great for epsxe (at least with retro shooter guns).
@Masansvarig Ah Duckstation is so far ahead & bearing in mind this video is years old now, Duckstation has improved since this was released :)
It works fine with standard USB/Bluetooth controllers but I don't own a gun controller or anything like that so I can't answer that :)
If you don't mind a controller, it works very well or as well as you'd expect 😊
It's so sad that they stopped updating the Duckstation..
Oh? Last time I had it update was last week? Even so it's an amazing emulator :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay They're still updating it, my bad haha
Yes they are still going to this very day :)
Does duckstation on pc has shaders feature?
Coz i using on android and it doesn't have but there's folder with "shaders" name
I'm not sure, I think so but I never use shaders myself so I have no idea :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay it's just my device cant run more than 2× resolution
But the graphics is horrible when displayed on 1080 screen.
In other emulator the shaders help me with LCD shaders
So i can play low reso game with comfortable
@@TheAffroShowGameplay i just hope that if duckstation pc version has shaders feature maybe next mobile duckstation update will have that feature too
Fair enough, sadly again I know nothing about shaders on Duckstation but I assume it has or has support for it on PC :)
Jumping Flash 2 crashes on Epsxe on any setting...
I tried it on Duckstation, works beautifully ^^
@@TheAffroShowGameplay ok thanks 😉
It's crazy how good Tobal No2 looks by psx standards...
The Hi-Res mode & good artwork & graphical style goes a long way :)
Since I can play Bust A Groove with smooth graphics and no music out of sync without further configurations and tests, to me DuckStation is the winner, now if only I could play Bust A Move 99 with music.
Simple, just make sure the .cue files are with the .bin files when you move them & both sound & music will play :)
If you have multiple tracks, just move everything into a folder & then just play the .cue file, the music & sound will play :)
I like duckstation because we don't have to worry about save files, unlike epsxe
That's true, ePSXe used to corrupt on me a fair bit!
Duck is way better every time I used the old esx it never really scaled to hd just stretches the screen
Duckstation is a fantastic emulator & has options the old ePSXe never had so, definitely glad you enjoy using it :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay I just got it today I can max at 5k and get 60 still but thats not needed I'll be using 1440 which looks real good still
@@cmoneytheman 1440p is the sweet spot in my eyes but it's great the emulator can scale beyond 4K which is great for future TV screens & monitors :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay i have tested 4k on mutiple pc games and have seen multiple vids comparing video of both 1440 vs 4k and the difference is small and I have seen vids comparing 8k vs 4k and the difference is real small so small that people have to look closely to see the differences
So I would say the max resolution we can see a big change from 720p is 4k no need for anything higher
I agree & it saves on PC proformance as well, 2K is probably the sweet spot at this time :)
I love duckstation. Now for oldschool windows xp builds/systems you cant use duckstation so epsxe it is.
I mean ePSXe still does a great job if Duckstation is not available but it's hard to go back with how amazing it is!
I've gotta be honest, i haven't touched 90% of the 3d PSX games because of the wobblyness. And while N64 games have no wobble problem, its textures look muddy&low quality due to the cartridge limit.
Ah it's all personal preference, I grew up with the system so I don't mind it but I know it does bother people :)
Only played the N64 once in my life so don't really have much experience with it :o
Duckstation is special. It's better than original hardware.
It certainly makes playing PS1 titles more interesting :)
1Duckstation best
2Xebra
3Bleem!
4Pcsxr
5Epsxe
6Psx fin
It was really cool if Duckstation increased the draw range.
Maybe in an update or someone will discover how to do that :)
Duckstation is better in every way, not just almost. The not liking the pixelated look in 2d games is fixed by using the XBR no edge blending filter
I'm not a fan of filters personally & Duckstation could use more but, otherwise I'd use it over any other PS1 emulator at the moment:)
I take it there are no X86 versions of DuckStation? Asking for the other two people who do not have an x64 pc yet since our next paycheck hasn't hit yet..
Duckstation is X86 for the PC version:) There's also a Mac version & Android version:)
Use ETA PRIME's ePSXe settings and compare again. I bet your settings are not optimized
Ive never had a issue with epsxe is it worth switching over ?
If it is still working fine for you, there's no need to change but Duckstation is free & easy to use so if you ever want to try it, it'll be always there :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay awesome thanks for the info
I do like duckstation even i didn’t use it yet but from what i see around the internet Duckstation is wining for me I give it try later , thank you for this video.
Definitely give it a try, you have nothing to lose :D
Use duckstation if you are playing on pc and xbox series s. Use epsxe if you are playing on android phones, tablets and TV boxes. Android devices are too weak and have compatability issues with games if you use and turn on duckstation enhancement settings. I find that duckstation often have issues when running 2d spirite games compared to using epsxe.
Sadly I can't test those since I only used both on PC but, I'll definitely keep all this in mind if I ever decide to use the emulators on anything else except PC :)

Well I definitely prefer Duckstation but some will stick ePSXe and that's ok :)
I just stay away from PS1 emulation in general because the polygons are just janky no matter what we do. The emulators try their best but PS1 just is not meant to be upscaled.
I disagree personally, yes you are right, PS1 polygons will never be perfect but I like upscaling the graphics if only to see what happens:)
I love my real hardware as well but, I love how we have choice & most emulators can look exactly like real hardware these days too if you want a more accurate look :)
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Yes that's what I meant about "not meant to be upscaled" - since the limited technology at the time cannot (and will never) cope with today's upscaling, unlike the way PS2 does for example. The polygons will always be janky in that sense.
That's a fair comment, PS2 emulation does look good when it works properly aha xD
@@TheAffroShowGameplay Yes it does, I didn't even bother buying RE4 HD and just emulated in PCSX2 🤣
