One thing I've appreciated about watching your channel is that I agree with a lot of your issues and likes and dislikes etc with books. Like most people, I watch quite a bit of different booktube channels, and while I enjoy them, I rarely agree with their opinions. While I do not always like every single book you enjoy, I definitely resonate with your opinions the most! I love having different viewpoints, but it's also nice to agree sometimes too haha
Would you ever consider doing a tattoo tour? I can tell at least some of the tattos are bookish, and I for one would love to see you show them off to us. I feel like that would be a very fun video.
Oh that would be fun!! I'm getting a few of them touched up soon. So maybe I'll do a tattoo tour once my artists have fixed up some old ones :D (And you are correct, I do have many bookish tattoos. lol)
I still haven't read anything by Adam Neville even though I own four of his books! This being one of them. I have dogs and small children so now I am a bit leery lol. If you like the whole "child doesn't fully understand what's going on" thing I would recommend Pen Pal by Dan Athan. I read it earlier this month and it was so chilling! It's about a kindergartener who does a school project to find a pen pal and his turns out to be a stalker, but because he is a kid he doesn't realize that and the book is his way of confronting those childhood memories that didn't quite make sense to him.
I started this book a while back, but only made it about 30 pages... I found it to be so very wordy, and I couldn't really connect with the characters. But maybe I should give it another chance... I do love folk horror, and I can see how there might be a good story in there. Not happy about the animal cruelty, though, but if I know it's coming and it at least serves a purpose other than shock value, maybe I can deal with it. I have been so quick to give up on books lately, if they don't grab me immediately, I just put them away. Maybe I need to be a bit more patient... :) Really liked this video, thank you!
The wordiness definitely continues throughout the whole book, which was absolutely a problem for me. But I did think the overall story was very compelling, so I powered through it.

I really enjoy Nevill. I highly recommend Last Days and No One Gets Out Alive as starter books for him. IMO they're definitely his top two overall. I liked The Ritual, but the second half of the book really falls short.
My signed copy of The Vessel came in this week and the cover is just amazing! I think it's the best so far. I've been trying to start reading it for the last three days and haven't had time and it's killing me lol
I'm excited to read this now. Folk horror is not something I think I like, but I always find it uniquely creepy, and very down to earth/home/family. Is Nevill famous enough to get that weird disease where he's immune to his editor's feedback?
I don't think he's famous enough yet, but I do think since he owns his publishing company that his editors had more of a bias. I'd really love to see how this book turned out if he had one more editor on it from an outside company.
I didn't really care for the first half of the book because I didn't really like nor found Tom interesting and almost dnfed it. Also, a lot of the marital tension Tom had with Fiona could have been rectified if he would just pull out his cell phone and take pictures and record video of all the weird stuff his neighbors were up to; however, I found once the folk horror stuff really began to take off in the second half that I had done a 180 on the book and ended up really enjoying it. I wasn't aware that this book was originally intended as a film, until you mentioned it; interestingly, my first reaction once I had finished it was that it was one of those novels where a film version would probably be better.
I totally agree. Tom's failing marriage was completely avoidable and it made me so angry. Also, Fiona really was just in total denial, but with how weird the neighbors were and how odd the history of the house was, I feel like she should have been a tad more open to it all.
I had a hard time getting through this one because of all the descriptions. The descriptions had descriptions and it was too much. I usually get aggravated with him because of all his incomplete sentences, but I hardly noticed them in this one!
He is soooo descriptive. It was really jarring for me at first, but after a while I get used to it with Nevill. I just wish he'd get an editor who would tell him he doesn't always need to describe every single item in a room or every emotion a character feels at every second. lol
