Yikes the 2nd one isn't as great? I loved the 1st one it was highly entertaining and was self-aware, while I do admit some political aspects were present in the book it was never too much SPOILERS:
EVEN though I didn't appreciate the gay romance coming out of nowhere, there was no build-up and it felt stale and added randomly which isn't how LGBT+ characters should be written) the 1st book was still solid and entertaining enough for me to finish, I was planning on re-reading the 1st book and then going immediately into the 2nd but it sounds like I should just read the 2nd book and after being bummed go back and re-read the 1st.

Yeah, the second one felt like it needed to check off every box of trendy politically correct fads to write about. It was so much shoved into one novel and there was almost no development on any of the characters or situations. It could have been cool to focus on one or two issues in the world right now and really build them up and flesh them out, but Cesare just thrrew everything at the wall and hoped all of it stuck. :(

@@violetprynne Yeah I'm not a big fan of that, it's a shame. I was hoping this book would give development to Rusty and Cole in particular as-well as all the characters to resolve the errors in the 1st book by bringing that character development after the traumatizing experience.
Thanks for the review! I'll still read it myself, always like to see for myself what I feel when reading but your review was helpful for getting me prepared.

This books was very “Halloween Ends” to me. I can see that the writer is very affected by the state of America at this time and who wouldn’t be? However, this felt so heavy handed with messaging. It felt out of place with the storyline he already set up. I’ll give the third a chance to grab me again though. The first Clown in a Cornfield was fun enough.

It was such a let down from how great the first one was. :(

And the politics is why I won't buy this one. What a shame. I don't want all that in a horror/slasher book. Just give me the killer clown!!

RIGHT!? I was so bummed by the direction this book took. I just wanted a fun, campy horror story.

Glad I didn't buy this one yet. We are reading both of these books for my book club and it sounds like I need to get the second one at the library 😉 good to know!

Yeah, the second one really did nothing for me, but the first one is AMAZING!

I was literally going to pick this up tomorrow. So glad I watched this first. I hate politics in my books. I read to escape too. My life and this world is crazy enough, I don't need or want agendas in my entertainment.

My son has read both, he loved them. I’m trying to decide if I should read Malignant Summer or Pet Semetry?

I liked the first one…. However I did feel like the relationship twist at the end was gratuitous…. I think I will skip this one based on your review…. I trust your opinions….

This is really disappointing to hear, I don’t mind some political stuff in my book but not really in this way, especially when I’m coming to a book for some kills and thrills

Yeah. I feel like the political allegory could have worked in any other horror book except for the one about a clown set in a B-movie setting. It just felt so forced and out of place.
