Wow in three minutes you answered so many questions for me with this video. One more question - why did you use the ND 16 and do you always use it on brIght days
Awesome! Glad to hear it, I use the ND 16 to allow me to shoot at 4K 30 with a shutter speed of 60 and the video remain properly exposed. And yeah, I almost always use an ND filter it just depends on lighting and frame rates and shutter speed
You probably dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend recently :)
I’m so glad I stumbled upon your mavic air 2 videos, I was having issues with lots of noise in shadows when shooting in d-cinelike and never really thought to try and shoot in anything else since I color grade my footage so I’m excited to try out HDR next time I go out and get some footage!
IVE BEEEEEEEEEEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS FOR AGES! Thanks Devin, I was kinda worried because Ive been doing some videos under D-Cinelike and they all were dull and I had no clue what settings to move, not even the guys at the store could tell me what to change. Thanks!
I played with the MA2's settings for the last weeks and found that even in well exposed daylight conditions there is a lot of grainy noise in the shadows in the d-cinelike mode. After tweaking the colors, increasing contrast bringing down blacks and giving it the S-shaped tone curve in post I still see way more noise in the final export (and on YT) than when shot in normal mode. I guess I am going to stick with normal mode for now, as HDR is mostly to saturated for my taste. Although its awesome in golden hour 😁
Same here as well, I have noticed heaps of noise even at ISO 100 in standard daylight conditions. It's most noticeable in the D-Cinelike profile and HDR mode which makes the footage pretty much useless to work with. Sticking with Normal mode right now and it's a bit better but overall pretty disappointed
Mitchell Kara yeah I am with you. Can’t shake the feeling dji rushed to launch it as it is too unfinished in many ways. Sold my MA1 straight after I bought the MA2, but must say that the 4k30 footage looks almost better on the MA1, at least in terms of shadows.
I just finished some flying around sunset to test out 4K 60 in normal mode which I’ll confirm to 24p ... posting a video within the next couple days see what you guys think. It actually has decent range and can seem to take some light color grading pretty well.
Great comparison between colour profiles. I find the d-cinelike on the mavic air 1 not really that flat. This looks really workable. I also like the hdr comparison, I think it could be handy if not over done. 😊
When you use the d-cine like have you experienced grain in the footage... I've used d-cine like over and over and still find grain in all my shots :( any suggestions why this keeps happening?
Thanks for showing us those results! I find taking the saturation out of the HDR a little in grading actual does wonders. (a few %). Keep making awesome content !
It's interesting that on the last comparison, the 'Normal' seemed to better show the fog/misy in the valley, whereas it's almost not there in the HDR version. I wonder if you could get that back in the shot with the corrected and graded D-Cinelike footage.
Good observation! Very likely. If you want more control over the colors you definitely want to shoot in d-cinelike and you can pull a lot of the same look as HDR out of the shot. Iv done some experiments maybe I’ll make a video about that! Thank you!
Good video, though in the three part comparison I'd put the d-cinelike in graded form next to the other two because no-one shots d-cinelike and doesn't grade it. It's only nice to see it once in its original form. Also I guess with HDR you could lock the AE (and the WB too?) so there should be no change.
I looked into this because I wanted to make sure I had tried everything thing I knew to try but when shooting in HDR the menu doesn’t allow AE Lock but you can set your own WB
hello friend, I am a Mavic Air 2 user like you, I have some problems when using the color profile cinelike, where my footage becomes grainy and noise in shadows. Do you have an idea to fix this? Do I have to shoot in normal mode? Do you use normal or cinelike profile colors? when i use nd 16 at 4k 60 fps, it's too dark. your advice will be very helpful
Great questions, I really like the colors it produces in the normal color profile. I have been using that the most so far. The video quality seems to come out really clean. I have found that shooting nd 16 at 4K 60 can be dark as well, I am waiting to get an nd 8. Other than that I’d make sure to just have plenty of light. I hope this is helpful.
@@devinjtatro dude I have found the solution, this morning I was flying in normal color mode without nd filter with auto mode and the video produced fine, as well as the cinelike auto model all looked good, the problem I saw when using ND 16 on cinelike by applying exoposure triangle. I think you are right if we apply exopure triangle (Shutter = double framerate, iso) we have to use nd 8 or nd 4 for 4k 60 fps. So I thought the package offered by DJI was useless, and I had to buy the package 4,8,16. previously I was a phantom user and I always use ND 8 for all my footage. and as far as the results of the image that I recorded this morning the picture is very good. Cheerss from Indonesia
Yes this is correct because hdr mode adjusts the iso to expose the image so with nd filters you will also get higher iso adjustment meaning more noise/grain. But it doesn’t just use iso so it depends on the lighting situation.
Thanks great info..I am always waiting for your videos! Just question. If we use HDR mode, Do we eliminate to controlling for ISO Shutter speed etc to capture right brightness?.
Good question! I don’t have a mavic 2 pro but I’d assume better color depth in 10 bit more information and more color editing capabilities before the footage starts to degrade 👍
I am thinking of upgrading from the original Mavic Pro to Mavic Air 2, however there is no D-Log on Mavic Air 2 and it is what I use most of the time. Yes I know the original Mavic Pro camera is nothing to write home about, but what is your opinion about this, would I get better results with Mavic Air 2 and D-Cinelike versus Mavic Pro D-Log? Thanks...
Were are the color profiles in mavic air 2? I have it on manual mode and there is no options anywere do they have to be unlocked? Why is white balance setting buried in the options menu and not up front with the rest of the settings? Lol why is tripod mode so dam fast? Lol the mavic air 1 tripod mode was slow and precise.
Agreed! In any situation that I need to make sure to get the shot, I’ll shoot manual in either normal or d-cinelike .. but HDR is fun to mess with and see what it can do! It has surprised me so far
Hi Devin! Great comparison! I want to get Mavic Air 2, but really don't know if my computer can edit well (macbookpro 2010). I've tried 4k, and 2.7 and cannot. Can you share a link with video footage 1080, normal speed, to try? (I look for it but cannot find footage to download) Thanks you very much!
You can use proxy files in Adobe Premiere Pro and pretty much in any other video editing software. The use of a proxy file is that you take your raw footage (be it even 4k, 5k, 8k) and convert it to something less intense for your system like for instance 1080p and so you can scroll through your timeline like breeze. Try it out, it will totally help
@@devinjtatro I think I've tried them all :) I've shot in full sun and then some later in the day and the noise is pretty terrible on both. I've reset camera settings and firmware. Is there specific settings you recommend? Thank you!
