Despite being someone who tends to go for the better specs when buying, I purchased the Mini 2 based on your review. Although active track might be good in some cases, the Mini 2 will do quickshots maintaining a set point in focus and frame. If you walk slowly and set enough distance you can get a simulated live track effect(works great in circling). Personally if I had the Air 2 I wouldn't be walking on a forested path relying on tracking with $1000 a few feet away from a collision with a tree branch.

Great review. I really want the ability to "easily" track a moving vehicle (while traveling inside) so I guess the Air 2 is the best option, correct? I like/prefer the price point of the mini 2, but having auto-tracking and obstacle avoidance are probably must haves for my desired use.

I like the extra built-in avoidance plus tracking so I may go for the Air 2. I use a DJI Pocket 2 so I am aware of the quality images and clips DJI offers. Air 2 is by far the better drone, but for the price the mini 2 is top of the line. If you are going with the flymore package you save around $480 going with the mini 2. If money is not a factor for you the Air 2 is the way to go. I have the mini 2 and love it. Its a really solid drone. My mini 2 gets max speed of 34 MPH in sport.
Agreed! I may not have hit that top speed yet due to wind or other environmental factors. You are right on with your assessment though. Both are great drones but both fit a different use. Cheers!
Exactly the review I was looking for to the point and unbiased. I liked the smaller size but was worried about the camera quality. Since the Camera quality is similar for my needs, I think the mini 2 is better for me due to its smaller size and weight. Thanks for such a great review.
Found your videos while trying to figure out what first DJI drone to get and have decided on the Mini 2. Subbed and loving the content as well Greetings from Scotland.
Have you tested it out in a warmer climate yet? I'm from South Africa and temperatures in the area I'm in sometimes go up to 40 degrees Celsius. I've had my dslr shutdown on me from over heating. Would really like to know how these 2 drones handle the heat.
Awesome review, I very much appreciate the insight for both drones as I’m looking to upgrade from the first mavic mini! Bit of an odd question but what kind of back pack do you have? Thanks as always and keep up the good content!
very true. I really like gloves from HEAD, I take smaller thin gloves with touch screen finger tips for flying and then I have the bigger thicker gloves as well
If you already own the Mavic 2 Pro then I would get the mini 2 as an alternative. The air 2 is great but most of what it does your Mavic 2 Pro can already do. The portability of the Mini 2 really makes it nice! Cheers
Thank you for the comparison video! Why does the default color of the Mavic Air 2 look much warmer than the Mini 2? Is that normal? Is it adjustable? Which one more closely resembles actual real world colors?
I personally went with the mini 2 since I own the Mavic 2 pro already I enjoy the mini because its easier to get out and launch quick compared to the pro that and less weight in my bag also ill use the mini for my run and gun stuff and the pro 2 for the time-lapse and more pro look. Great video man seems like both drones are good but I'm sitting in the right spot for the 2 I have.
Agreed! Thats where I have settled too. The mini 2 is such a great portable drone while the M2P really has great quality in a small package. I do look forward to seeing what the Mavic 3 Pro brings!
It’s something to do with the way DJI has tuned that sensor. You don’t notice it until you put them side to side and then the difference is huge. I hope they fix it with firmware in the future.
@@JakeSloan so it seems tge mini 2 will be my choice. The Zino is not refined enough and the Ait is too expensive, while the Mini 2 has better image quality.

I've seen another youtuber saying that he charges his Air 2 from a power bank. Also, my Fly More combo for Air 2 contains a charging connector with a simple USB plug on the other side, so I guess you can use a power bank easily with it.
i want a drone so bad, was looking into both of these drones, but the prices r so costly here in india and i don’t know if we can order directly from the dji website and will they ship to india.
Hi Jake. I love all of your videos. You taught me so much about the original Mavic mini. That was a year ago. I've now bought the new mini 2. But I can't get my drone to connect to the controller. One strange thing is. Even though it says the aircraft is not connected. I can make the gimbal pan up and down. I get no camera view. Or the rotation of the props. How can that be? Thanks Dave in the UK. Aged 70.
I’ve had that happen once and basically I had to wait until it automatically went to the drone flight screen. If yours still doesn’t work properly then maybe try and rebind it? You bind the drone by turning it on and after it had booted up push hold the power button until it beeps then follow the connect aircraft prompts in the app on the controller.
I bought the Air 2 and I love it!! My max speed was 46 mph and I was flying on the beach and it was very windy. Going against that wind was really scary, even in sport mode, the max was 24 mph 😂😂 and it even stopped my drone like I hit an invisible wall. I love the Air 2 and can’t wait to hit the city for some awesome pictures.

You're welcome! Cheers
Found your videos while trying to figure out what first DJI drone to get and have decided on the Mini 2. Subbed and loving the content as well Greetings from Scotland.
Thanks a lot! Cheers
My heart and my budget says Mini 2😅
LOL well its a fantastic drone for the price don't underestimate it. Cheers
Mavic pro is the only one to consider in fainess. The other ones are rubbish, well apart from air but that 8bit no log
@@petrub27 u say mini 2 is rubbish?
@@aces3261 too light, yes it's rubbish
Petru B. You say trash but leave nothing but empty words....
Please enlighten us.....
Great comparison. For a professional means, og mavic air or mini 2? Transmission vs obstacle avoidance?
Mini 2 I think looks better image wise
I wish I have that drone too so I can continue my aerial vlog.. By the way nice view 👍🏼😍
Thank you I hope you get one!
Have you tested it out in a warmer climate yet? I'm from South Africa and temperatures in the area I'm in sometimes go up to 40 degrees Celsius. I've had my dslr shutdown on me from over heating. Would really like to know how these 2 drones handle the heat.
I have not since I don't live in a hot climate but I know people who have and they have worked as far as I know
Awesome review, I very much appreciate the insight for both drones as I’m looking to upgrade from the first mavic mini! Bit of an odd question but what kind of back pack do you have? Thanks as always and keep up the good content!
This is my favorite backpack: geni.us/qY2LJ
What’s your preferred cold weather flying gloves ? Cold handed flying is not as fun. Thx
very true. I really like gloves from HEAD, I take smaller thin gloves with touch screen finger tips for flying and then I have the bigger thicker gloves as well
Love the travel emphasis for the DJI mini 2
Me too!!!
My first done is a Mimi 2 still waiting for it to turn up.
Nice!
I owe a Mavic 2 pro....as a second drone...if you have only one choice....would go with the mini 2 or the Air 2 ???
If you already own the Mavic 2 Pro then I would get the mini 2 as an alternative. The air 2 is great but most of what it does your Mavic 2 Pro can already do. The portability of the Mini 2 really makes it nice! Cheers
I agree with Jake it honestly seems like the best pair
If you already have MP2 the choice is obvious, you need a smaller more accessible drone, but to be honest, Mavic Mini 2 is all you need...
Thank you for the comparison video! Why does the default color of the Mavic Air 2 look much warmer than the Mini 2? Is that normal? Is it adjustable? Which one more closely resembles actual real world colors?
The mini 2 does and yes the mavic air is adjustable. I was quite shocked at the difference as well
Noticed this too
I personally went with the mini 2 since I own the Mavic 2 pro already I enjoy the mini because its easier to get out and launch quick compared to the pro that and less weight in my bag also ill use the mini for my run and gun stuff and the pro 2 for the time-lapse and more pro look.
@@JakeSloan yea same I hope they gimme a bit though gotta fill the piggy bank back up lol 😂
Lol you and me both!!
Really helpful video... to the point and clear... thank you!
Thanks!
Me Watching In 4k On A 1080p Monitor 👁👄👁
lol
The air2's colour is dull. Why? Is it the hdr?
I've seen this in other videos as well. It was the same with the Air vs mini. The snow looks yellow.
I'm buying the mini 2. As soon as I receive my $1400 stimulus check.
Nice!
Me too!
@@jovanypantaleon Not buying the fly more combo, just one extra.
Which one is better for videos?
The Air 2 by a hair
The mini 2 has a more blue color tint and the air 2 has a more yellow tint. Is it a white balance issue?
Nope both were on full auto mode. Crazy isn’t it.
@@JakeSloan Yea.
@@willcrespo24 so which one is more real life colour? Mini 2 with blue or air 2 with yellow? Thanks
@@mertb.2502 I suppose the mini 2 because the shots were taken during colder temperatures with snow. typically cooler temperature is blue.
@@willcrespo24 thanks for your explanation. So for people like me who flies only weekends for a hobby and shooting some amateur footage, mini 2 will be enough ;)
I've seen another youtuber saying that he charges his Air 2 from a power bank. Also, my Fly More combo for Air 2 contains a charging connector with a simple USB plug on the other side, so I guess you can use a power bank easily with it.
Oh interesting, everything I have read indicated it wasn't possible...
@@JakeSloan he’s correct, the Air 2 does have a USB port to charge the batteries. It’s like a hidden feature, lol
i want a drone so bad, was looking into both of these drones, but the prices r so costly here in india and i don’t know if we can order directly from the dji website and will they ship to india.
I think they will
@@JakeSloan ok, thanks Jake .. want a drone so badly 😍
Thanks for the video Jake. It was very helpful!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching
I keep silica gels in my drone case after a fly in the winter to remove water or frost when it gets to room temp.
great idea!
Awesome!! Cheers
Dear my friend iam very new i never have before a drone and want to star planning my next vacation to the Caribbean inland what is your recommendation to star please
I would recommend the mini 2 highly!
Thank you for the great video! I'm looking at a long global backpacking trip and have never used a drone, but realized it might be a good thing to have. It was also fun to see familiar footage- I grew up skiing Hatcher and Turnagain :)
Glad it was helpful and awesome!!
Hi looking for a drone to look at jobs on roofs. What would you recommend. I would not use it every day. It would just be to look at items on roofs with out going up there because some are so steep.
Either will work but the added help of obstacle avoidance is nice to have on the air 2
I just ordered the dji Mavic 2. Then saw horrendous reviews regarding shipping and getting them fixed under the care package they sale. Have you heard of or had any negative experience with them?
I haven’t. I know several people who have used their service and they have no complaints about it.
@@JakeSloan thanks a million. After looking it seems like they were mainly back in 2017 and a couple in 2020. Can’t wait for it to arrive.
@@JakeSloan by the way AWESOME review!! Probably would’ve gotten the mini had I seen it before I ordered 😂. Glad I did get the 2 living in Michigan it gets cold and it’s good to know that won’t affect the performance.
@@JakeSloan one more question. What are your thoughts on landing pads? Useless or useful? Saw where it helps keep debris out of the gimbal
How can I become a tester for these drones? To leave reviews as you do?
I purchase them to do these reviews, no drone companies send me drones to test or review
very helpful vlog! thank you. leaning toward the Mavic 2 after your great shared info!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. I have mavic air 2 and was thinking of a secondary drone under 249g so thinking of mini 2. Your video has helped me decide on adding a mini 2. By the way, notice you hand launch all the time and hand catch rather than using landing pads.
Is hand launch and catch a good skill to learn and how easy is it to do properly?
It does certainly help in many situations. I made a video on how to do it and practice it safely: ua-cam.com/video/Q4d51RHIrCo/v-deo.html
Thanks for that Jake and will check your video link out now my friend. Thanks again for that Brother 👍👍
I bought both... best combo
LOL well there you go
Do you use ND-filters with the mini 2 Jake? I have read you can get gimbal errors or vibrations.
I do. I use freewell Nd filters and I haven’t had a issue
@@JakeSloan thx!
So is mini still worth even tho its got no active track. I heard theres a litchi app you can use for the Atrack. Ty
I think so and I think as soon as Litchi has access to the SDK they will add tracking to the mini 2
