So helpful
WOW! This video cleared up a lot 👍. Thank you 😁
Great tutorial for those newbies. Hopefully nüCamp points newbies to your 5min. Videos. They are very clear and full of great info.
Thank you! NuCamp has been very appreciative of these videos as a means to help out new owners or as I like to call them, NüBies! LOL
Thanks for your great videos. We are picking up our 2019 Tab 400 Boondock Lite on Friday (very excited) and as we've never had an RV before your videos have been so informational!
Congratulations on your new 400!! You’re going to love it and the Boondock Lite has some nice features that ours doesn’t
Thank you, Patrick! Even though our LGMax is a bit different (such as the 3 way fridge) RV power usage can be confusing in the beginning. Another one for the "RV Essential Playlist"... Great video! Stay safe traveling to Hershey this wkend - have an awesome time at the show and see you #ondowntheroad 💜
Thanks Stacey! I think a lot of these Take 5 videos cross over to different trailers and manufacturers. Hopefully people find them useful.
Great video! Explained well!! You are a great teacher Patrick!!!
Thank you Ann!
Great informative video Patrick. Well done. 👍
Thank you!
Awesome information ! Thank you...We're looking at the 2021 Tab Boondock and for the life of me I can't seem to find a recommendation on Generator/Inverter size. I'd appreciate it if you could help me out. Thank you, Mike
The size of generator and or inverter will really depend on how you want to use it and what you want to power. We used a 3500 watt Predator Generator and had a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter in our 400.
Well done! And graphics
Thank you
Great explanation!
Thank you Kelly!
As always very well done and Love The Music!!!!!!
Thank you Paul. The artist is Vexento and the song I use for al of our videos is called Droplets.
So helpful! Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Great video on the power system. Manufacturers really are moving towards most things running on 12v. My rig is like yours in that I can run just about anything on 12v except the AC and microwave. Stay safe.
Are you going to be at the show on Friday? We're really hoping to meet up with you if you are.
Travels with Delaney Hi Patrick, unfortunately I am leaving Thursday night. I was going to stay overnight to meet up with both of you but I would have to leave by 930ish am on Friday and I know you weren't getting there till then or later. Kind of a bummer. Hopefully another time. Have a safe trip there and have fun meeting all the prospective NuCamp owners.
Bummer! I was really hoping we get to meet in person. We definitely have to get together someday.
Thanks so much for these. Super helpful. I may have missed it but what’s the suggested smallest or lightest weight generator you suggest for the Tab 400 to run the ac? Thank you.
Great video Patrick. Do you have any idea how low the battery can go when boondocking. I have a 2021 tab 400 boondock with the solor and two 6 volt AGM batteries. I don’t have a generator will be boondocking at Big Bend NP without a generator and will use the batteries to power the 3 way refrigerator, lights, charge phones, and maybe run the fan at night. I’m not sure how much to rely on the solar to keep the battery charged either. I just don’t want to drain my battery lower that they are suppose to go. Any help is appreciated.
You really don’t want to take your batteries below 50% (12.06 volts). Once you go below that, it will shorten the life of your batteries.
Thank you thank you thank you
Excellent video thanks. When can we expect video from the RV show?
Tomorrows video will be on the NuCamp Avia Trailer that will be launched sometime next year.
Great info ... I think we need to look at getting an inventor ... for out T@B. 😎
Here's the one I installed and it was very easy on our 400: amzn.to/2NIfwRU
About how long will the heat run starting with a full tank and had to run it non stop?
I honestly do not know the answer to that questions. There are so many factors to consider. What I can say is we found the Alde to be very efficient and never needed to carry an extra propane tank for our usage.
Hi Pat, Thanks 4 the blog. If the generator acts as a 120v power source, does it also charge the 12v battery? If so, are there ways of preventing it to “over charge” the battery?
It does charge your battery back up. But just like when you are plugged in to a power box, the trailers converter will monitor the battery level and prevent over charging.
Does NuCamp provide an electric cord or do I need to buy one?
They do provide the electric cord that plugs into the trailer.
Patrick - This is excellent! Question: How did you measure "65%" battery status when you were boon docking? The onboard Control Panel battery status indicate is is nearly useless, I keep a voltmeter in the 12V outlet near the sink, but that information also has limits. Thanks.
I just had one of these hooked up to the battery: www.amazon.com/utipower-Multifunctional-Capacity-Lead-Acid-Motorcycle/dp/B072LCD7TD/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1540311315&sr=8-4&keywords=12v+battery+meter&dpID=41dZf2zT4VL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Hi Patrick, watch and like all of your videos.Wondering how you handle your battery maintenance for winter storage. do you turn off batt, disc. and charge occasionally to keep up voltage? Or just keep connected to shore power all winter.
Thanks , Marv Imhoff
In the past with other trailers that had regular marine style batteries, I would remove the battery and keep it in the garage and just charge it every month until we put it back in the trailer. With the AGM battery in the Tab 400, I am planning to just keep the trailer plugged in all winter and keep a little heat on in the trailer.
Hope you're enjoying our soggy weather here in PA. While you explained what could be run on the battery, you did not cover the run times for those items like the TV and the fans. especially if the solar is not charging on a day like today.
We don't actually arrive until Thursday night but I am sure we we still get to experience some of the soggy weather based upon the weather reports. Unfortunately in a 5 minute video, there just isn't time to take about everything. This was really just to help our NüBie's understand what is powered by what. I may do a video on how much drain things have at a future time.
A few questions regarding our new 400. We just got back from a trip and the next outing is in 2 weeks. We cleaned out the refrigerator and turned it to 0 on the controls. The blue light inside is still on. When does it go off?
Do we always need water in our fresh tanks in addition to hooked up to a water source at the campsite to run the Alde hot water?
Is it difficult to see the setting on your AC thermostat? It is so high and so faintly lit we really have to look to see what the settings are, AND, it seems to be running 6-8 degrees colder than the setting.
Hints on draining the bathroom sink? 30 minutes to drain 1 handwashing is not good. Yes, we lift the sink up to try to help it drain...multiple times. Finally, got it drained and put it up. Should be able to use that beautiful sink!
As far as I can tell, the light only goes off when you close the door which I do not like personally. You do not have to have water in your fresh water tank if you are hooked up to a water sources. The AC Thermostat is definitely hard to see and even I have to stand on my toes to try to read it. As far as the sink draining, we still have that issue. Ours drains slowly.
Good info, thanks! What can run on what power source has been one of the last remaining mysteries I've had about RVs. On the new Tabs, they've installed 2 6V batteries. Why do you think NuCamp made this change?
Typically it is a philosophy that the 6 volt golf cart style batteries are better for charging over and over. They are designed to be drained down and then charged back up. I wish ours had the 2 6v batteries however the 1 12v 235ah battery that we have has done a great job so far for us.
@@TravelswithDelaney one of the reasons why some prefer golf cart batteries wired in series is that they have a smaller footprint, so it is great if the space you have them stored in is more width than height restricted.
When you are driving long distances, is the refrigerator on to keep your food cold? If so, how is it powered?
We do travel with it on and it is powered by the 235 amp hour battery that the trailer has. It works great.
I just took delivery of a Tab 400 a week ago. Your videos have been extremely valuable. Thanks for your efforts!! My Tab 400 is now in storage until the spring. The battery needs to be charged but I do not have access to an electrical outlet at the storage facility so I am going to have to use a generator. Should I use a battery charger plugged into the generator and then connected to the battery or just plug the trailer directly into the generator to charge the battery?
Congratulations on the new 400! They are amazing little trailers. I just plug the trailer directly into the generator and let it charge that way.
Thanks Patrick. Sorry for the follow-up question......do you think the charge would take about the same amount of time whether I plug the trailer directly into the generator or use a battery charger?
Unfortunately I do not know which is quicker. You might want to pose that question over on the NuCamp Forums and see if anyone has ran a test on that. Here is the link to the forums: tab-rv.vanillaforums.com/discussions
Which inverter did you install? Do you have a video that shows where you installed it and how?
I did not do an install on the inverter. I installed this one though: amzn.to/2NIfwRU
Travels with Delaney hi Patrick where did you install this inverter that you are referring to? Did you do it your self or by chance have another dealer do it? I am asking because I have already purchased my Renogy kit and Vectron battery monitor and my dealer does not want to install it for me and the other RV dealers won’t touch it thank you in advance.
@@TravelswithDelaney OK, JUST placed my amazon order for the inverter you suggested. I clicked on your link and checked out so, you should get credit for that.
My question is, where did you get the outlet that you installed? How did you plug in the outlet to the inverter?
Paul Sobel I bought the outlet at our local Menards. I bought a plug for the other end of the wire so I could just plug the outlet into the inverter.
I don’t think you can operate the air conditioner with 110 amp service I believe need 30 amp?
Robin Rowan We run ours at our house converted down from 30 amps and also with the generator with no issues.
Omg, I was not aware that you can operate the ac with 110. I just spent $700 on a generator to have 30 amp service.
Robin Rowan Yes. We’ve had ours plugged into our house the past month and kept the AC set to 80 so it keeps the trailer cooler. We haven’t noticed much of an increase in our house electric bill which means it’s fairly efficient too.
