After removing gauge cluster and reinstalling after changing passenger HVAC blend door actuator, gauge lights and DIC does not work on ‘98 C5. Speedo, tach, and some messages display, but DIC buttons nor gauge lights work. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Hey Jerry, my first thought would be the DIC switch or harness that connects it to the cluster itself. Have you pulled the DIC switch out to inspect the individual components?
Question, my DIC stopped working, first the buttons would work intermittently but now has completely stopped. Should I replace the entire instrument cluster or just the buttons and cable?
@VetteSource dang I wish you would have replied sooner, I just bought the entire cluster along with the DIC off ebay and it will be here tomorrow lmao. Does it have to be reprogrammed? I also sent you a FB message yesterday as well
@VetteSource all good. Super easy to take out the cluster. Had it out in less than 15 min. My new one got delayed but will be here at any moment so I hope it works. 🙏
New cluster is in and my buttons work again!! I have a 97 and the cluster I bought is from a 97 and it only has 3,499 miles on it. It really makes me wonder if they rolled it back tho...
Hi David, yes there are bulbs in the DIC swith. Unfortunately they are part of the switch and I believe soldered onto the circuit board like the bulbs in the AC control unit.
If I change my gauge cluster on my c5 and the used one says it has 190k miles will it go back to my original miles? If no please let me know so can find one with the same miles
Unfortunately not. The mileage is stored in a module soldered to the lower part of the circuit board so you're stuck with whatever mileage is in the used cluster your installing.
Nice video. Could you advise on my right turn signal indicator light not working and tac and speedometer lights are out. Earlier in the day the left signal light was not working also. Another channel suggest when everything goes bad at the same time the high power inverter is the reason, Your thought would be appreciated. And is the high voltage inverter the same one that powers the Heads up Display. Mine is lighting up- but the mirror is not moving. Therefore I will be removing the dash, Thank you.Tim
Hey Tim, sounds to me like you have some intermittent issues going on here, which is going to require digging a little deeper to see what exactly is going on. With C5's, intermittent failures are many times caused by faulty wiring, so you will definitely want to carefully inspect thr wiring and go through the wiring diagnosis tables spelled out in the factory service manual before replacing amy of the individual components. Let me know how things are going. You can also reach me by DM @VetteSource on FB or IG for any additional questions👍.
@@VetteSource The difficulty in diagnosing the light bulb problem is the fact I haven't driven that car at night in over ten years. And haven't put 500 miles on it in the last 7. A few years ago I installed the after-market by-pass to separate the blinkers and the hazard lights. The turn signals would stop working . Now they both work properly ,but I am wondering if that added part is affecting the dash lights for the signals? I will disconnect it tomorrow and see if any thing changes. Irregardless ,the dash is coming out to fix the HUD mirror and I'll remove the gauge cluster and check the bulbs. I ordered some tonite. thank you
Yep, I've been seeing some of the aftermarket electronic upgrades for C5's are beginning to fail now that they are getting older. That would be the first thing I would check.
@@VetteSource just stopped dead tired . 12 hours straight . Got all back together .Accomplished fixing the HUD. Light bulbs all tested good and all idiot lights still work. Still no cluster lights for seeing the tac and speed. While waiting for the new hazard switch ,I put the old one back in and turn signal lights worked inside the car worked outside the car. New part came AC Delco discontinued making .Settled for Carquest with lifetime warranty. It hit the store at 2:30 .Dame thing made in china. Flashes much faster than the bi-pass . So only thing not working is the dash panel lights.Glad I have the inside indicators working along with the bright light indicator. I am beginning to think the T5 bulbs are not for illuminating the the panel. inside the high voltage reducer , there was a rattle . Two pieces of nonmetallic pieces were inside that had broken off from a corral around a 1 inch x 1/2 inch transformer? I used duct tape and put them back from whence they came. I don't know if they could have distorted the proper electrical paths? will never know.
Holas sir, havent seen any of your videos in awhile life and wut not.The firechicken is apart in my garage. Wondering if their is a way you could check out a 58 second vid and tell me what you think it it.I thought it was flex plate but im not seeing any cracks (yet) its not all the way out.
Hey Brian I'm one of your subscribers I was wondering if you mite have some advice on what to look for I have a 93 c4 convertable with approx 33 thousand miles honestly like new I was taking to wk today and my asr lite came on never beat on or drive in the rain sits in garage most of time I watched your video on asr but not sure what to look for any help would be appreciated
Ok, first thing I would check is the accelerator, throttle, and cruise control cables coming out of the ASR actuator for any physical damage. If they look ok, I would check the actuator itself at the bellcrank to cable connection. They have a tendency to freeze up with time, and are often the source of the problem. If those check out ok, then we'll have to dig into the electronic side of the system. Let me know how it goes👍
Thank you so much I appreciate you pointing me in the rite direction thats why I follow you religiously always very informative thanks again I will try looking at all those things 👍
Hey Mako, not quite under water, but it sat in a woodsy environment with the driverside window down for quite awhile. Funny thing about the C5 column though is that they are unpainted and left natural from the factory, so even the ones that come from clean cars will have that flash rust on the lower shaft.

I would recommend the DIC switch and/or wiring harness connector. It's pretty uncommon for the cluster to be the source of the problem.

@TJsVette sorry about that. FB has been acting glitchy lately. Good thing is no reprogramming required. Let me know how it turns out👍

what is the harness that went to the hud called? the one you said often goes out?
I don't think it has an actual name, but in the business we just refer to it as the 11 pin 2-way connector.
Does the DIC have bulbs in it? I have three buttons that don’t illuminate.

Whatever you do, Brian, don't shoot the mockingbird! .22LR is a gateway drug, and before you know it... You'll hit rock bottom.😜
😁, the older I get the more I like the birds. Funny how your perspective can change👍.
Thanks for skipping right on past how main harness unplugs👌🏽
Pretty sure I explained it was plug end was fixed into the dash, and all that was required was to pull the cluster straight out. Sorry to disappoint👍.
He explained it at 5 min mark
looks like it was under water, rust on the column

There might be a little rust on the column!
But it's one of those things that gets sweeter with time! 🍷
