Thanks everybody for watching! No need for an OBD2 scan tool with the onboard diagnostics in the C5 Corvette. After retrieving the codes, a quick Google search will tell you what the code is and the Corvette Forum will help you resolve the problem.
Not always. I’m currently going thru TPS woes on my yellow c5. followed everything recommended on CF and no dice so far. Replaced the TPS. Nope. Okay, cleaned my grounds. Nope. Replaced the TAC module. Nope. Last things I can do myself before I see a specialist is replace the throttle body itself because you can’t buy just the stepper motor, or the APP sensor on the gas pedal itself. after that it’s gotta be a harness issue and I’m fucked/need a specialist/harnesses replaced.
Of all the videos, explaining this topic. THIS IS definitely the best video! The split screen helps alot, to see what you are suppose to do and how it reflects on the display. Well done! Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for posting this video… It saved me so much time, energy, and money. Unfortunately, when these Corvettes get old, they have so many sensors and things that can go wrong, and it’s so frustrating to see them pop up all the time. your video was like a diagnosis of the engine without having to pay for a diagnostics from a mechanic. Thank you very very much for posting again.
Glad the vid helped. The Corvette community is great, for the most part lol. You'll find a lot of good info on the corvetteforum.com if you're ever in a bind on anything. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment 🤘
Thanks a ton for this- I had an 02 vette about 10 yrs ago and remember having to go through this all the time. I sold that car about five years ago and forgot the process. Just bought an 03 and this video was awesome for instructing me how to do all this once again.
Thank you your instruction was very easy to understand.. spoken clearly and slowly. Didn't have to start over and over again. I wish more how to videos were like this one🙂
Omg you are AMAZING!!! THANK YOU!!! Cleared my check engine light. My few codes ended in H only so.. Your video was the ONLY one I could find that actually helped. Again.. thank you ❤
They really did have a lot of tech and features. They just struggled with the cheap GM parts bin interior. Finally the new Corvettes have knocked it outta the park.
Thanks for the explanations along with the demonstration. For example saying what the three letters mean and the historical or current letters mean. Helps a lot
Thanks for this video. I have problems and learning how to run the diagnostics is very helpful. Since all my codes end in H, I am pleased about that. Maybe the problem is clear. I am already subbed. You have helped me before.
It's important to remember the Codes simply hint at what a problem may be. A few months ago my C5 ZO6 popped a "engine knock" code. The problem wasn't an internal engine issue, the code was caused by a low-voltage issue with a failing battery. Now we're all smart and intrepid folks (we own Corvettes), but there is no substitute for experienced expert help! See you on the road!
I recently bought a 2003 C5 my gas gauge wasn't working correctly. I followed some of the other suggestions and then I followed some of your suggestions and all the sudden! The gas gauge is working! Thank You for Your help! Keep ROCKING THE PLANET
The C5 is an amazing car, but your life will be easier if you consult a speed shop that specializes in the Corvette. I've had my '01 ZO6 from day one but couldn't keep it rolling without professional help! 185k miles and I just turned down an offer of $50k. Im sure you feel the same way about your Corvette. All the best...
Not everyone does, so that's why I made it. Seems like almost everyday someone is posting in the FB groups about it, so hopefully they start sharing my vid lol. I don't have to put mine away yet, but I'm sure I will soon.
Nice video - wish the early C4's had more OBD capabilities - other than doing that jumper thing and counting the flashing CEL to figure out the trouble codes!
thanks for the details on your video, I took a 10-step note and took out to the car to check my codes. However, when I turned the key on the on position (I heard the fan kick-in), two issues came up and won't let me go to the reset button to get to the odometer. It shows service ride control and service steering lock. I already replaced the factory shocks with Bilstein so we didn't hook up the old sensors for that issue and expect to see the ride control issue and I'm ordering a by-pass part for the steering lock. For some strange reason, it won't let me access the other codes for the car. I have a 1999. Maybe its a different technique for that year?
I've had that issue with my 01 ZO6 and was able to clear it with simply depressing the bottom DIC button for five seconds. Of course, I had a stock set-up so things were a bit different. Hope that helps...
You can check the codes and clear the codes yourself. You may need a mechanic to help resolve your issue if can't figure it out yourself. Once issue is fixed, you can clear the code and see if it comes back.
This was fascinating Dave. I always thought you had to plug in a code reader into the OBD port, which is what I have to do with my C6. Is this procedure laid out in the Owner's Manual? Save the Wave👋
Owners manual?? Who reads that? Lol. I'd have to check, but I don't think so. You could obviously still plug into the OBDII port to do the same, but this was unique to the C5.
🤣🤣🤣 I hear you about reading, or not reading the Owner's Manual. It took me three years before to realize mine could link up to my garage door opener. A friend with a C6 stopped by to show me his new C6 and the topic came up. He actually did the link up for me and when I asked how he did it, his reply was: "It's on page xx of the Owner's Manual." I hate Smart A$$ friends!😉 Duh, I had the answer all along, it was gathering dust in the glove box. I didn't see him much after that initial visit. I guess he drove home thinking, "I hate Dumb A$$ friends!🤣
First time on the channel. Very informative! I have a basic question: I need to replace a worn out carpet (black) on my 2004 C5 and have trouble matching the fabrics; any suggestion about a good supplier (I have researched and contacted half a dozen, but am not totally convinced). Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the comment. I don't know for sure, but could be fuel pump or alternator. Check out corvetteforum.com to see if there's any info there on how to diagnose each before spending money
Any idea why my DIC stopped working after I disconnected my battery I know better but I was careful and only disconnected the positive cable to repair the wire for my battery tender 2001 C5 Z06 all I get now is constant veh miles but it will display some items for only a few seconds like door ajar cruise speed set ck eng lite if the fuel gauge takes a dive appreciate any help you can provide thank you
The steps in the video is how to do it through the instrument cluster. If you can't get it to work, you could go to Autozone or something similar that offers free diagnostic. They'll plug into your OBD2 port and tell you the codes that come up.
I'm still looking for a c5. Pref Yellow, Red or Blue with stick. If you come across any for under 10k in good shape, please gimme a shout. I'm down in Delaware.
Lol it's nothing great. I wish it was an ECS kit, but that's not in the cards this year. There's a small clue in my community post from a few days ago. That purchase is required for the bigger purchase which didn't have a Black Friday sale bc it's already cheap 👍
Working on a 2000 C5, it's in limp mode. It will not go into diagnostic mode, anyone got any tips? I used a scanner through the OBD2 port and am getting 3 different tps codes. Thanks.
