Here is the video that discusses issues with modern gaming that I mentioned: ua-cam.com/video/VFCl-64esBY/v-deo.html
When you want to play a game you've heard a lot about or played as a child, and you find out it's now selling for hundreds of dollars.
And sadly, your best option is emulation, unless, of course, you have enough saved up to get said old game 😓
@@Raidraptor_-_Ultimate_Falcon Embrace the emulation like I have, it's nice over here. I get to play all the games I want and I don't have to eat only rice and beans for weeks like RetroBird. 👍
@@sahamal_savu I didn’t mean to come off bashing emulation 😅
I’ve embraced it since I got my first job back in ‘14
Then you learn about modding and emulation because phunk that.
@@kingedwin *cries in Metal Storm and Panzer Dragoon Saga* 😢
Somewhere out in the world, Timmy's cursing up a storm because he'll never get back his Genesis game.
Plot Twist: Timmy is the one who blacked out his own game because it sucks and he wanted to get rid of it.
@@markula_4040 plot twist Timmy got sucked into the game and ran out of lives.
The only thing I really hate about gaming is not having time for gaming. Adulting sucks sometimes.
All I know is getting a handheld and getting kids their own gaming set up has helped "buy" me time so I can game again
Sleep is likely the worst inconvenience possible for gaming!
Work can be just as bad sometimes
I'm good paying a boring story heavy game that puts me to sleep. 😴. Alternatively I know some like pokemon sleep.
I am glad the switch has a sleep mode. Helps with voice of cards, mato anomalies, pokemon mystery dungeon, and sea of stars.
I do remember falling asleep to disgaea. Glad we got better strategy rpgs that don't push level/ability grinding as hard as that and fft (which I learned has a fanbase/guides that misinform). I am glad there are advance wars clones with better pacing or stories like wargroove 2, and customization.
Things about video games that I hate:
1.So many “hidden gem” or underrated NES games costing over a hundred dollars online.
2.Having trouble either getting into a game or struggling with the difficulty of a game that everyone seems to love.
3.Having to decide between playing a game I need to finish or playing a game on the dreaded “backlog” just because I’ve had it too long and haven’t played it yet.😡
4.Having a love/hate relationship with how many stinking video games I have!!
5. That horrible glitch in one of my favorite wrestling games ever, WWF No Mercy, where occasionally all your data randomly gets erased!😬
We all know Timmy probably grew up to look exactly like Dr. Robotnik, and that every day he swears vengeance on Retro Bird while looking out of his massive fortress and twirling his mustache.
Villain origin story
I finally beat Okami this week
That’s a great game
Congratulations! you did the impossible!
Congratulations!
Water levels with a timer AND electric seaweed 🐢
I hated sonic water level a lot!!!!
Yup. That was the end of that game for me for most of my life.
Strangely, I LOVE the dam level in the first Ninja Turtles game. I won’t say it’s easy, but it is so satisfying reaching and defusing those bombs and the music is so mesmerizing!!
@@matthewheupel8960 as a kid same…you gotta switch turtles before they die it’s super annoying
Great comment! 😂
You know what gamers love? The fact that that green Game boy got so much screen time in this video! :)
Underwater stages with different controls reminds me of how bad I was at video games as a kid. I haven't significantly improved, but I learned one valuable skill: read the manual!
I got an NES for Christmas, but it wasn't until the following spring, maybe summer before I got so far in the original Super Mario Bros. that I finally got to a water level. But immediately I was stuck! There was some pink coral blocking my way, which I could normally jump over, but for some reason Mario's signature jump was really short. I was flummoxed. I paused and unplugged the RF connector so my parents could still use the TV, and waited until I could meet with my friends to ask them what I was doing wrong.
I finally learned that after I jumped, I could jump again before I landed, and this was called "swimming".
I liked what he had to say.
Nobody can hate games quite like gamers.
me needing to go to bed because of timezones meaning it’s late in the uk and having this video directly call me out for not going to bed
I always hear people complain about stickers on games, but I LOVE stickers on games. They usually sell way cheaper and I'm really good at removing them. I've saved so much money by looking for expensive games that were covered in stickers. It just takes patience. And Goo Gone. And then more patience. And sometimes more Goo Gone. But I think it's worth it.
It always feels like a bit of risk to me, but successful sticker removal is pretty satisfying. I've experienced it a few times myself.
Peeled a sticker off my God of War collection PS3 disc and it took off all the artwork on the CD beneath it 😡🤬🤬🤬🤬
@@aaronjames7266 Gotta go slow. Like, glacial slow.
@@aaronjames7266 Who puts a sticker ON THE DISC?!?!?!
Only downside is it takes *days* for that distinct goo gone smell to dissipate..
The current price of buying back old games I sold or traded years ago.
Time.
Having a collection with no way to display the items.
Things I dislike - motion controls and touch-screen controls. The dumbing down of gaming by making most modern games a time investment, rather than a genuine challenge.
Things I hate - digital downloads. micro-transactions and game passes. All things that have been extremely detrimental to gaming imo
I love how you continually find ways to breathe new life into "you don't deserve to donkey kong". Coincidentally, my copy of Donkey Kong Country recently decided to delete my best save file so the joke has really hit home lately.
that comment about cadillacs and dinosaus hit a special place in my heart
I personally hate "bad endings" in video games. Especially when the requirements for the true ending are demanding. Nothing worse than being denied a satisfying conclusion after beating a game you otherwise enjoyed.
Who cares about endings
Just look for the Holy Glasses, dude
Bad ending?.. the first outlast game smh... that one still pisses me off
People treating their (gaming) stuff poorly is absolutely in my top 3 of things I hate as a gamer.
U n me both if u don't know how to take care of it then don't bother buying it and just stick to digital
I hate when you can blow through a game in like, 30 minutes, but then the last boss takes you... 30 minutes
Always rooting for a laughing at Timmy moment. Also yesterday I had "You don't deserve to Donkey Kong" in my head and I couldn't stop saying it. I love the quote. Retro Bird lives rent free in my head and I'm ok with that.
One: Welcome back! We missed you last week.
Two: what bothers me is what is being shoved down our throats. Micro-transactions, over reliance on DLC, patches to get “finished” games to run properly, games as service (which means that these games will not be playable once the servers go down), digital only games, games being licensed instead of owned (Ubisoft), expensive game services that slowly take away what they offer while increasing the price of the service (Xbox and Sony), Sweet Baby and other influencer companies injecting woke DEI garbage into our games while making women ugly and men emasculated… is that enough?
If I wanna stay up and play Oregon trail on the apple 2 all night I will. Whateva, I do what I want😁
It’s my hot body!
I dunno, I hate the cliche overuse of ice/snow levels over water levels🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, I dont like time limits. I especially hate having to restart at the begining of a level after getting killed.
Haven't watched yet, but bedtime because you have an early morning the next day has to be number 1.
Stickers on the old big box PC games used to be the bane of my existence.
The cadillacs and dinosaurs comment resonated with me a lot. That game and a good conversion from the first shinobi would have made child (and current) me so happy (hah!).
I hate not being worthy and deserving to Donkey Kong.
To Donkey Kong. You don't deserve it.
What yanks my chain is modern hardware designed to play retro games that is either already completely useless right out of the box, or barely useful if I track down the firmware update and study the strategy guide how to install it
I tried sleeping while playing games before, it only worked out reasonably with Final Fantasy 13 in my experience
Waking up to some new content from RetroBirdGaming is a plus with a cup of coffee!
This one hits close to home
Great video! I always took care of my retro games. I kept them in their respective box or case when not playing them and stored them in a place not subject to extreme heat or dust. One peeve of mine was letting a friend or family member borrow one of my games, but it being returned in worse condition!
The straw that broke the camel's back is that I had a mint condition copy of an N64 game I really liked and I let an acquaintance from high school borrow it for a weekend. When I picked up the game, the box and manual were missing and the cartridge was all scratched up. I got so annoyed that I never allowed anyone else to borrow any of my games again.
I'll never forget losing a 100+ hour save on FFX trying to show my friend the opening to the game and I must have accidentally saved over my main file. I remember putting the controller down and saying "I'll never pick this game up again" and I never did.
@@JS32986 Man, that is so frustrating!! I’ve beat the game once and absolutely loved it!! But it was so freaking long and I’ve never went back and played it again. In fact, I think I sold it a long time ago
Personally I hate random battles in RPGs. It’s a constant interruption from the emersion
I was surprised while shopping for retro games in Japan. Most are in great condition and a few I thought were new 😊😊😊
All the games I buy from shops in Japan look like new and usually the cases and manuals are in perfect condition as well 😊
They know how to take care their games out there in Japan... something that alot of people here need to learn how to do... if u can't take care of it or don't know how to take care of it then just stick to digital
Man I love you're videos please keep doing what you do
Thank you!
I love sleeping. It's one of the great things of life, IMO.
I don't actually play many retro platformers, but watching you go through that part in Kirby's Dream Land 2 was very visceral. I think that must have been the dream drop stage for that world, because I remember having to do it over and over again. I think that was one of the points where I was making jokes to my friends about how difficult Kirby is.
Speaking of games without physical releases there's codes in boxes. Absolutely repulsive!
At this rate, no one will deserve to Donkey Kong!
Bedtime HATER!!! 😂😂❤
Love this channel so much. Seeing the CRTV is like a warm blanket.
CADILLACS & DINOSSAURS MENTIONED.
Peak. I played the heck out of that on MAME when I was a youngling.
It’s more of a modern gaming thing but un-skipable cut scenes are the worst especially on multiple playthoughs
I hate:
- unskippable cut-scenes
- not being able to change direction of left/right (3d games)
Can you imagine there's that guy out there in the world somewhere who's favorite game is wheel of Fortune on the NES. The crap that guy had to take😂
Some of those damaged games look like they were delivered by Amazon.
Retro Bird even crazier than last time!
The Jim Hensen style laugh at 2:15 killed me
Dreamcast has a “reset button”. It’s just not a physical button on the console. All 4 face buttons plus start. Do it during gameplay will take you back to title screen. Doing it on title screen takes you to system menu.
Personally I hate 5 things:
1) Be injured in the arms or legs (the pain distracts me to play games).
2) Physical games that never got a revision or updated version (I mean why they still release new waves of an incomplete game?).
3) Bulky consoles (looking at you PS4 Pro).
4) Corrupted save data (always makes backup, except on PS5 and Switch since now you have to pay for it...).
5) Permadeath difficulty in which it ask you to beat the entire game in one sitting with no allow to save your progress and resume later (oh and if the game crashes constantly even "better"...).
I'm one of those "The stickers tell a story" people, but not because I really don't have the time to care. I'd rather use that time to play a game.
I've also lost a Chrono Trigger Save at the very end of a 100% run.
There are many things retro gamers might hate. But nothing compares to the hate Timmy has for losing his game and maybe finding out years later these videos and hearing about himself and his game. I would say one thing that sucks is seeing so many games that get ignored just to go for more popular games then years later It's beloved and so expensive. Those games are usually amazing and unique. Cool video. ^_^
Don't forget:
- Online Trophies
- Lights of death on modern consoles
- Modern game boxes (discs almost always end up loose)
- Day one patches
Oh man I can’t wait till when you get 1 million subs. Criminally underrated.
Im not a fan of resllers who take advantage of our nostalgia and sell for way over market value. I have had my best experiences making purchases from fellow gamers that understand the passion and or propensity to be broke because of it.
I stumbled on your channel because I was curious about CRTs for gaming. Now I'm subscribing because I'm all in on your unapologetically nerdy jokes and delivery. Great videos. You do an awesome job with the pace and editing and bananas.
I want my darn game back!
Timmy now owns a Mexican fusion restaurant called the Mean Bean Machine
When open world games have the same repetitive thing to do over and over again to open up more map space.
Just have where I've been become lit up like in GTA 5. Or at least make each mission to open up a map section be something different each time.
Gamers hate finding out that Timmy passed away in the '90s and has been being mocked by people he never met posthumously.
Probably choked on a banana.
Mainly for modern games, but I hate forgetting where I am in the save, restart, and then get close to where I was before and stop playing... then do it again 6 months later
If Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is your favorite brawler of all-time despite never getting a home release, does that just mean you knew an arcade that had it and played it a lot there or... you know... through any means necessary? 😳
From the thumbnail I was expecting 'mismatched battery covers' to be on the list, which is something that bothers me way too much for something that can't even be seen during play.
Not knowing what game to play is something I hate. Also yes, I am one of those collector's who is not a big fan of the second hand market. Too many people listing crap as mint condition was enough for me to say, screw it, I'm opening sealed games LOL.
Yeah, I'm always leery about buying games online. I once bought a game on Ebay that was "near mint". When it finally showed up, it had the label taped on. Fortunately it was a super cheap game, but it was still irritating.
One restriction while gaming that I always hated is in some RPGs and MMOs, when a "Fear" spell is cast on you, and your character takes off running somewhere without you controlling it. I get the reason for it, but hey, I'm the one controlling this character, if I'm not scared, the character shouldn't be either. If I want to run away, I'll do it myself. lol
I still have my launch Game Boy in absolute perfect condition. When I stopped playing it went back in the box. My friends GBs always had scratches, dents etc
Don't forget slippery ice physics.
I demand a Retro Bird Calendar for sale.
_Every month is a scene with a banana or dog with floppy ears._ 🍌🐶
Watching that reseller submerge snes games in water so they could scrub the plastic was rough.
I had to resubscribe to your channel for some reason. Not sure why youtube is unsubscribing me from channels. Anyways, have an awesome weekend!
Thank you for correcting that!
Hey. That happened to me as well!
Suddenly I stopped getting updates and when I manually searched for the channel to re watch old chapters (lol), I found out I wasn't subscribed anymore.
8:18 aha! I knew I spotted Soukyugurentai! What a game!
A great game indeed!
I hate that furniture stores don't carry Virtual On machines for sale.
Matt. You definitely DO deserve to Donkey Kong. Excellent work !
I hate stages with ice. Or certainly they give me anxiety at the different physics, then they usally end up being very satisfying to master...
I don't like it when developers decide to put in sections of games that make absolutely no sense. Like a skateboarding mini game in a 3D action game.
You must mean Metal gear solid 2: substance. That mini game was fun for like 10 minutes.
I remember trying out Kabuki Quantum Fighter on the NES a few years back. Plays pretty well, but that timer gets pretty strict after a few stages. It felt like they wanted me to become a speedrunner.
If Cadillacs & Dinosaurs is your favorite beat-em-up game, then, one, you have great taste, and two, you definitely deserve to Donkey Kong.
I love the big, chunky PS1 and Dreamcast cases we get in Europe, but good luck getting one of those games second-hand without a cracked cover or shattered spine, and they're nigh-on impossible to replace. You can always swap them for the case from a low-value game, but I can't say I love the sacrificial chain (or filling my shelves with games I have no interest in).
Having to restart a level 96% finished because you fell thru the map or got stuck IN something! Okami is so much reading!
I miss how games never had introduction to learn the controlls and move sets because it was all in the manual that you read on the way home from the store
So true, I hate to see games that has been abused...
I gave up sleep to watch Retro Bird!
Things gamers love: new Retro Bird vids every Friday 👍
I'm happy you felt seen, those Genesis manuals should have been in colour! I always thought Mario power tennis should have had connectivity to Mario tennis power tour; I really wanted my character in 3D!
My little brother plays video games for like 8 hours a day. Anf he still works. So you guys are slacking.
But he also has a horrible case of rosacea because of the diet he has to eat in order to play video games for 8 hours a day
I was a little surprised at no mention of pricing / marketplace gouging
I hate that retro games come with a lack of saves. Now emulation has fixed that with save states, but if you want to play on original hardware then ur outta luck. Retro games can be some of the hardest games already, but often having to repeat a portion of the level JUST to go back to where your STUCK is not my kind of fun. I already beat that earlier section once I shouldn't need to keep proving that I'm worthy to come back to where I left off. Without save states my stack of retro games that I've beat would be much smaller
i think i can, i think i can, i think i can say...Happy Be-Lated Birthday Retro Bird!!!
Sega Dreamcast has its reset button on the controller. Hold all four face buttons and press start to reset the game, or quickly press it twice to access the console menu.
The constipation joke made me laugh as I'm currently watching this on the porcelain throne dealing with the B side of extra extra hot wings night.
Bongo Bongo in Ocarina of Time, also, the battery in the original Zelda cartridge not lasting forever and requiring a soldering gun to replace.
Every time you mention Cadilllacs & Dinosaurs, everytimeI fully agree, and press the like button. :)
Managing my saves on my memory cards! Want to play something? Well now you need to put in 5 different cards to find your save!
I love this channel - it never lets me down ❤
I hated buying a used game Cd that had been scratched up to much to read.
That stage hes playing in sonic was so frustrating
