It's kinda funny to look back on the hype around F-Zero, because the view from today you'd think Nintendo has always lead with Mario Kart as its primary racing game. I remember that they were really pushing F-Zero in 1992, though maybe that had to do with the system recently coming out, but then Mario Kart came along and that was it. Great take, and can't argue with Super Mario Bros. 3 being a game that no one could objectively dislike (Except Super Mario World fans). The logic also applies to Super Metroid, a game that nobody could hate except Metroid Fusion fans.
I recall renting Death and Return of Superman and Marvel War or the gems, both for SNES, thinking nobody would hate big detailed sprites Super-hero Action, but later found out my brother was angry because He did not like beat'em ups. That shocked me as a kid.
1) Contra III : The Alien Wars on Super Famicom 2) Tetris on OG Game Boy 3) Elemental Master on Mega Drive 4) The Legendary Axe on Pc Engine 5) International Karate Plus on Commodore 64 CHEERS mate... : )
my sister REALLY hates bomberman. The franchise is still semi-omni-present and everytime i'm like "CHECK THIS OUT NEW BOMBERMAN THING!" she just screams
Good video! I mean, nobody hates Retro Bird...how could they? I haven't played Shinobi III yet, but the other games listed here are my childhood favorites. There are many retro games I almost never see hate for like Mega Man X (the first one specifically), Ristar, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Banjo-Kazooie, Kirby's Adventure, Mega Man 9, Donkey Kong Country 2, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Earthworm Jim, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Party 2, and Diddy Kong Racing. Though, I know there are haters for nearly anything. I honestly can't really think of a game I utterly loathe except maybe Paper Mario Sticker Star.
@@richfutrell753 I was going to put Mega Man 2 initially, but I thought about and I have heard there are plenty of people that don't like it for whatever reason. However, when Mega Man 9 came out, it pretty much got universal praise as one of the best "classic" Mega Man games. I rarely saw any hate for 9 and I've heard from plenty of sources that it even beat out any of the NES games as their favorite Mega Man. I mean, feel free to substitute Mega Man 2 for 9, but that has just been my personal experience.
Cool thing about Hyperstone Heist is it’s a solid variation on the Turtles in Time formula especially if you’ve already played the original to death. It mixes it up!
1 for 1 with your first choice 2 for 2 on the second choice. Not as popular but I've never heard complaints lol. 3 for 3. Only complaints were difficulty but never the quality. Ooooh a very close one on the 4th. But I agree. Too hard is the only complaint And the final game is just icing. 5 for 5, Bird. Great job!
If anyone says they hate a game, they actually dont. Even the angry video game nerd doesnt actually hate any of the video games he reviews, he just highlights the areas that could have been improved. Same thing with food. No one hates a plain pizza, but may feel a few toppings would enhance the experience. Its like a banana thats all peel. Sure, i could say that i hate it, but all i really want is for it to have some banana IN that peel.
It really depends If I see a game with a highly generic premise with bad execution, of course I'm gonna hate it, specially if it's constantly brought up and if it's rated highly If I see a game with generic premise but solid execution, I just check it out, forget about it and move on If I see a game with great premise but bad execution, I feel sorry about it
I won't say hate (too strong a word) but I don't care for Mario Kart or Bomberman at all. I do HATE bananas however. Possible my least favorite fruit. Banana bread is decent though so I don't think you need to be grabbing any pitchforks Mr. Bird.
Personally, I wouldn't say I hate Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but I wouldn't say I love it either. Back when my family owned it, we would sometimes fire it up and race each other...and my wife and daughter would often beat me. I can handle losing races, but the game itself just feels so limited.
Everybody likes ice cream? Brain freeze says hi. You're not human if you hate Donkey Kong Country. Therefore, you don't deserve to Donkey Kong...you don't deserve to Donkey Kong...you don't deserve...
If it were a top 10, I would add Streets of Rage 2, Super Metroid, the original DOS version of Doom, the original arcade version of PacMan, and I'm torn between Tecmo Super Bowl and NBA Jam as a sports title.
My friend got a Genesis with Streets of Rage 2 and returned it to the store after just a week or so because he didn't like it. I was so confused. I think his parents got mad that he had too many consoles and tried to make him get rid of his SNES or something, but he wouldn't talk about it so something weird was going on. Doom... Definitely hated by some parents and religious groups. Actual gamers... probably not many.. I don't think everyone likes not knowing where to go in a Metroid game, though I'm not one of them. I've never felt a strong connection to Metroid though for some reason. Something feels boring and empty about it to me, but I've had a lot of fun playing the 2D entries, and Dread.
😂 I once commented on your video as I don’t understand why people like Donkey Kong Country but I like games no one likes so it is what it is and people were so mad at me.
I was a little surprised Sonic the Hedgehog 2 wasn’t on this list, but I think it falls well within the same category as SMB3/SMBW. I would also add X-Men Children of the Atom to this list though :)
There was that whole "Sonic was never good" thing a while ago. Personally I never got into them either. Focus on speed but then randomly stopping the player with awfully designed slow platforming sections, gets frustrating. Not saying I'm right, but there's a lot of people who do feel this way.
... as a sim racer I hate Mario Kart. Quietly, as I know the average person out there loves those games. I mean even non-gamer folks I know at least have that game and love it. So I'll begrudgingly smile and play the game with folks to not be anti-social, but internally I'm screaming at the insulting take on vehicle physics where accepted rules of apexing and real world tire compounds characteristics are irrelevant.
I honestly think the Game Boy version of Tetris is basically a perfect game. Same with Super Mario World. Ooh, and Kirby Super Star on the SNES. Also, Mega Man X.
Yeah, I mean seriously, is there anyone who actually hates Game Boy Tetris? For me, it's kinda flawless for what it is. I mean, it's very simple and pure and doesn't have cutting edge graphics and endless gameplay modes and stuff, which some fools might honestly equate to bad or something ridiculous like that, but I would say there's not one thing about it that is actually objectively flawed or bad in the slightest. Simple, but perfect in that. Now, the Game Boy screen itself is trash, but that's not the game, just a limitation of the extremely old tech. Put that exact Tetris game on a Game Boy with some brand new OLED display or whatever, and it's pretty much perfect. There are few games I would call basically perfect, but Tetris is one I'm comfortable labelling as such.
I'm putting forth Rocket Knight Adventures as my un-hateable game. That game will charm the controller into the hands of even the most jaded anti-platformer gamer, as I feel I am that gamer. When Mario 3 dropped, my mind was completely blown. It was so good that the entire platformer genre paled in comparison, even to this day, for me personally. I never cared for DKC, never liked Crash, and while I really liked Sonic at first, I burned out after 2. But Rocket Knight has absolutely kept a high spot in my favorite games of all time list and even at the height of the 90s console wars, I could bring RKA to the most staunchly Snes household on the block and covert a family member or two to the Sega side of the fence.
I loaned my super Nintendo classic and N64 everdrive to my church a couple of years ago and on both consoles, Bomberman never fails to please even this Young generation. Nobody hates Bomberman.
Just the other week I saw someone call it badly designed garbage. Something about how modern 3D zeldas are so much better. Some people just go through life like monkeys who are only impressed by shiny thing.
@@kurtshastany1945 There's a reason there are countless indie game projects and fan art projects all imitating the style of aLttP, and it's not just cause of nostalgia (people who weren't even born when it came out are doing it too). They have something called taste. ;)
I don't like Mario Kart 8, it keeps the gameplay style of the Wii game that I also did not like. I think Mario Kart Double Dash was (and still is) perfection, every Mario Kart game after should've used the same gameplay. But instead they're trying to make the series faster, while eliminating F-Zero. And F-Zero is far better than Mario Kart. Yeah I said it, I hate Mario Kart 8.
I'll admit I am not a big fan of Mario 3. I think Mario 2 is better. Mario 3 took away the ability to switch characters with different abilities and grab items that was in that game. Yeah, I know SMB2 is a re-skin of Doki Doki Panic, but that game had more interesting things going on in it for me than Mario 3. Mario 3 is still a great game though. But not my favorite.
I think these are all reasonable picks. However, I will give you my own twist on this list: - Super Mario 3 is my favorite Mario game. - I absolutely love Shinobi 3 for all of the reasons you mentioned but my favorite Shinobi game is actually Shadow Dancer. It may be one hit kills but the controls are slick and the soundtrack is incredible (especially the Statue of Liberty level). - I own Turtles in Time, Hyperstone Heist and Shredder's Revenge. Hyperstone Heist is fun but challenging (one of my favorites) Turtles in Time gets the formula just right but Shredder's Revenge does it a little better considering 6 player coop and now the capability to play as Usagi Yojimbo. I can't hate any of these games. They all accomplish what they were created for at the time. - I don't have many games in the Bomberman series but I do have the first on NES and played Super Bomberman on SNES. The one I really want though is Saturn Bomberman with two multitaps to get some 10 player action going. - I own Mario Kart 8 but on the Wii U. Still have not picked it up for the Switch. I'm aware of all of the content but when I got my Switch, I wanted to play other things since I used to play it a lot on the Wii U. Games I would add to the list: X-Men Arcade NBA Jam Sonic the Hedgehog (original) Power Stone The House of the Dead 2 Duck Hunt Streets of Rage 2 Good video! Keeps up the great work!
@0:24 You should look up the old Tom Green Show skit where he goes touring in places, and people are there to enjoy their time, and take photos and see sights, and he's just sitting there screaming (to himself) "THIS SUUUUCKS! This. SUCKS!" Tom Green was ahead of his time by a decade or so. Wasn't funny back then, but the world changed, and it's sort of hilarious now. I don't really like the guy, but he was trolling for an audience a long time before that was normal.

It is a very bad influence on the youth. It encourages running around placing explosive material in order to inflict damage on other people.
1) Contra III : The Alien Wars on Super Famicom
2) Tetris on OG Game Boy
3) Elemental Master on Mega Drive
4) The Legendary Axe on Pc Engine
5) International Karate Plus on Commodore 64
CHEERS mate... : )
Solid choices good Sir!
Great video! Can you do the water drinking thing again? I forgot how to consume my daily required water intake.
I'm a credit to this video. I don't hate any of these games!
my sister REALLY hates bomberman.
You list all these iconic games and then Mega Man 9?
I think you meant Mega Man 2.
"Sonic was never good" ring a bell? lol
Classic Bomberman doesn't get hate but Bomberman 64 does for sure. Great video!
Good game selection, Mr. Bird. I actually don't hate any of those, especially Sega Rally!
Cool thing about Hyperstone Heist is it’s a solid variation on the Turtles in Time formula especially if you’ve already played the original to death. It mixes it up!
I love this channel.
Great video. Your content reminds me of a Gen-X Scott The Woz (that’s a compliment)
Holy heck~ A Video about a top w/e that Nobody and no one hates? Subscribed. 😄
1 for 1 with your first choice
2 for 2 on the second choice. Not as popular but I've never heard complaints lol.
3 for 3. Only complaints were difficulty but never the quality.
Ooooh a very close one on the 4th. But I agree. Too hard is the only complaint
And the final game is just icing. 5 for 5, Bird. Great job!
“You don’t desSerVe da Donkey Konggg…” 2:34
I literally spit out my food at the "cherries suck" analogy 😂
Bomberman are possibly the best couch coop games ever. More nights of laughing than most games combined
It really depends
If I see a game with a highly generic premise with bad execution, of course I'm gonna hate it, specially if it's constantly brought up and if it's rated highly
If I see a game with generic premise but solid execution, I just check it out, forget about it and move on
If I see a game with great premise but bad execution, I feel sorry about it
I won't say hate (too strong a word) but I don't care for Mario Kart or Bomberman at all. I do HATE bananas however. Possible my least favorite fruit. Banana bread is decent though so I don't think you need to be grabbing any pitchforks Mr. Bird.
Love your writing man
Personally, I wouldn't say I hate Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but I wouldn't say I love it either.
Apes deSERVE to Donkey Kong…
Super Metroid is a bit divisive tough
Some people don't like the pre fusion physics
I'm surprised Tetris wasn't on the list. No one can hate Tetris...
I freaking hate tetris 😂
... as a sim racer I hate Mario Kart.
@@inceptionalidk what's the deal with game modes
I see that complaint in many places
has there not ever been a simple game mode like the gameboy one?
Bomberman 2 for SNES is the definitive bomberman! Not the ones with the kangeroos. No no no ;)
Hear hear!
What cc is this Donkey Kong footage? Dude is absolutely getting it.
2:28 the deleted scene from resident evil because it was too scary for adults
Those adults certainly don't deserve to Donkey Kong.
Was not expecting Shinobi III. That's one of my favorite games!
I loaned my super Nintendo classic and N64 everdrive to my church a couple of years ago and on both consoles, Bomberman never fails to please even this Young generation. Nobody hates Bomberman.
I've never seen anyone talk trash about The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Just the other week I saw someone call it badly designed garbage. Something about how modern 3D zeldas are so much better. Some people just go through life like monkeys who are only impressed by shiny thing.
Only fanboys of some other particular console would likely hate on one of the widely regarded greatest games ever made imo.
It's ugly
@@kurtshastany1945 There's a reason there are countless indie game projects and fan art projects all imitating the style of aLttP, and it's not just cause of nostalgia (people who weren't even born when it came out are doing it too). They have something called taste. ;)
@@sdf434-pp8jd they have something called subjective preference
my very first retro bird video was the debut of "you dont deserve to donkey kong" and i think its the funniest thing ever
I Hate absolutely nothing about this video. Thanks Mr Retro Bird! 💯
I have never liked Mario games. Sorry Retro Bird. Maybe I don't deserve to Donkey Kong either. 😢
Another great vid!
Agreed
The worst part is that in SMB3 Luigi is a GREEN MARIO AGAIN!1!1!1
I think these are all reasonable picks. However, I will give you my own twist on this list:
- Super Mario 3 is my favorite Mario game.
Games I would add to the list:
X-Men Arcade
NBA Jam
Sonic the Hedgehog (original)
Power Stone
The House of the Dead 2
Duck Hunt
Streets of Rage 2
Good video! Keeps up the great work!
NBA Jam for sure. I don’t even want to know anyone that doesn’t appreciate that game.
@0:24 You should look up the old Tom Green Show skit where he goes touring in places, and people are there to enjoy their time, and take photos and see sights, and he's just sitting there screaming (to himself) "THIS SUUUUCKS! This. SUCKS!"
Tom Green was ahead of his time by a decade or so. Wasn't funny back then, but the world changed, and it's sort of hilarious now. I don't really like the guy, but he was trolling for an audience a long time before that was normal.
