Great video-it amazes me though the ease you ride these difficult trails with a duct tape tire yet get psyched out on lesser obstacles on good tires. Crazy how the mind works sometimes
Yes are you talking about the one where he’s going down stairs Lots of times the video was epic also shows how strong carbon rims they Took an absolute pounding But eventually they did break but only after about an hour
I wonder if you alternated closed cell high density foam, duct tape, then double sided tape if that would keep the wheel as stable but also give it some “give”. Great video!
dude, this is INSANE. lmao. I feel like this is the way to go tho now-and-then in terms of content, we've all seen a bazzillion +1 POV video's... it's nice to just have fun sometimes with the adjacent stuff... so was it actually grippy? seems like it had a surprising amount of tack.. :0
50mm backer rod closed cell foam - double-side sticky taped to the rim, then duct tape all around. Might help to reduce vibration. My preferred use for it is inside my tubeless mtb tires though...
Was wondering how much faster the breaking components would wear out with 16 lbs tires, enjoyed this vid very fun and Enjoyed the red green reference at the end too
What about filling your tires with random stuff? I think another channel filled their tires with bread, but doing it with other things as a Cush core alternative would be entertaining. BTW, I loved the reference at the end to the red green show.
i love the Red Green references. Duct tape has amazing uses that's for sure, I was amazed that you were able to do as much as you were with the slick smooth surface of the duct tape.
Not the MTB experiment we wanted...the one that we needed 😂 Next test should be sticky side out for MAXIMUM GRIP!!! Once the tape is full you just peel off a layer and keep riding lol
Funny video. To be fair though better to compare a high end Maxxis tire to a high end sports car tire, which would cost $300-400. Bike tires are still too expensive.
Hilarious. And some sweet music picks, as well. A little Vince Guaraldi "Charlie Brown" at 5:15 and some Aaron Copland sounding Western motifs later on. Nice.
Okay so you complained about a $130 (CDN) tire so you bought 26 rolls of duct tape at approximately $271 (CDN), when you could have bought two regular MTB tires for that. 😛
Reverse mullet bike. Rigid front, soft rear (reverse to hard tail). Ride the opposite style pedals to what you normally use. Cheap bike challenges, how much can you do on a cheap/budget/free bike (or try with a BMX bike). Street sessioning, rather than trails. Riding the wrong size bike, put Yuka on your bike, and you ride hers. To help Yuka with her pumping, chainless trail riding challenges, can only pump! Also try, get Yuka to work on a single set of tables. Start by riding them "normally" then and work on going slow and having to compress/pump more to clear them, then eventually work on the reverse, how to "not jump" at all (normally we teach this to new riders FIRST, how to ride a jump and absorb and get no air, because this is safer), but for you guys, just add in in wherever. Then how to scrub a jump, to absorb the lip, and even to table the jump to get super low and fast over it (race style). This will help her work on how to adjust to different jumps depending on speed. Then apply this same idea to bigger/harder/different jumps, including gaps.
You guys should learn some tricks. Like endos or wheelies. Maybe have little competitions or challenge each other. Personally the learning/comfort-zone-breaking content is the best ❤️❤️❤️🤙🏻
Yep, you have too much time on your hands. Good for you! The reason MTB tires cost more than car tires is 100% to do with scale. they make 25,000 MTB bike tires per year and 4.8 Million cars tires.
Why are mtb tires more expensive vs car tires? Read this from reddit: "Material cost is usually insignificant in the construction of things. What you're paying for is the design, manufacturing, and distribution of a relatively low quantity part." aka it's somewhat a niche product vs car tires.
Very funny, but I think you missed a trick with the front tyre. In the last few layers of tape you needed to lay some wood nails pointing outwards. All the grip you could ever wish for. The only issue could be speed... if you go too slowly you risk nailing yourself to wooden features!
It's cause of weight, that's why mtb is so expensive compared to something like a dirt bike where weight isn't top priority so it needs to be made of lighter but also more expensive metals or composites to get Enduro bikes 15-16 kg unless it's a Norco range which is 17.5
What a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid idea... but what a great video to watch!! Mouahahaha man you stressed me out so bad.. I was so afraid the video would end at the emergency room :)
Man, I really like your videos, I get the "joke" aspect, but wasting product that will only pointlessly pollute. Yes, hobbies do pollute, mtb tyres are not really recyclable, but damn that is just waste.
But on the plus side it would get you home if you burst a tyre a long way from home.....not sure carring 13 rolls of duct tape would be better than just carrying a spare tyre but its probably easier to get the Duct tape.....fascinating experiment....You're a brave man and tbh Yuka is pretty brave for letting you try this too...Now is there a step up to try while youre feeling so fearless.
yeah, "awesome" stuff. Next time: what's the point of using inner tube if I can put sand inside. I would rather see u talking with bike tire companies so they can explain why it is so ridiculously expensive.
Did you burn through a set of brake pads in a couple of days with such heavy wheels? I would think trying to stop so much rotational mass would cook them quick. I was really hoping this wouldn't be a lead up to another "cast" video.
"how can a bike tire be more expensive than a car tire" ... easy, supply/ demand... more car tire sales= better prices... less bike tire sales= more expensive... since both probably have the same kinda R&D costs, sure one has more material but the bigger volume only means lower prices, and why a big batch of big tires can be less expensive per unit than a small batch of small tires
I love this channel. I've watched him from 2018 to now and I whatch every video he makes. I would love to be like you one day. Keep up the work legand!
Cuz your paying for the branded name lmao cult vans tyres for road maxxis for of road nothing else is worth buying trust me ive rode for 15 years down hill up hill trails dirt tarmac pump tracks ive never paid more then £30 per tyre
"I am not a smart man"..... The sign of the start of a great video 😂
Not smart, nor handsome, but defnitely handy!
In one sentence, sums it all up.
I love this video man!!!👏 Great Entertainment
How much did BIG DUCT TAPE pay you for this advert? 😄
haha! I think the question is How much did I pay them?!
@@BCpov Start chasing them for remuneration.
The infamous Jamie Hyneman once said: "Duck Tape isn't a perfect solution for ANYTHING, but it's an adequate solution for just about everything. "
amazing quote 🙂
could you duct tape a tire insert? would lower weight and reduce impact vibrations
My thoughts exactly 👍
That's big brain
Those are too expensive too. I was thinking using a pool noodle from a dollar store, maybe cut in half.
@@fillfreakin2245 Great idea!
How hard of a trail do you think you could ride with your brakes backwards? (Rear on the left).
You mean the correct way? 😜
oh geez.. I'm pretty sure I'd loose teeth if I tried that 😬
@@BCpov …..more than riding a trail with duct tape tires? 😂
Rear on the left is correct though?
@@zechreardon6129 nah that's only in Australia
Great video-it amazes me though the ease you ride these difficult trails with a duct tape tire yet get psyched out on lesser obstacles on good tires. Crazy how the mind works sometimes
Setting the standard for EWS, clearly the latest and greatest improvement in MTB tech
Ahahaha, this idea definitely had not cross my mind!
I’d love to see what you can do on the duct tape setup!
@@BCpov No scrubs (in purpose)!
Love the Red Green reference! Thats what I was thinking of when you dumped out the box full of duct tape 😄
Great video! Keep it up!
So much this.
the grip of this grey duct tape is actually impressive!!!
it's crazy how expensive mtb tires are getting.
Blame it on the war in Ukraine... Everything nowadays on the world is the cause of this... Suddenly no more resources... i just can't believe it tho!
Dude I’m paying 50€ for one of those!
I love when people find old bikes for like $20 then discover they have to pay $100 to get new tires and tubes for it!
You can get tires for around 25€
@@hannes6114 not those tires tho!
"If they don't find you handsome they should atleast find you handy." Nice quote from the red green show.
Maybe adding in pool noodles underneath the duct tape could save some weight AND give added support to the rim. Homemade Cush Core! 😂
“I’m a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess” … I grew up with Red Green so this video is for me 😂
Damn, you're starting to outcrazy the Sam Pilgrim himself!
You and Yuka are very cute and wholesome together. I love that you both love doing this! It makes the whole content much more enjoyable!!
We all know how strong carbon rim’s are but this proves they are stronger than people think
Have you seen Danny MacAskill torture testing some carbon rims

Eric this video was amazing, don't worry about it not being "regular" content 😁
I will no longer be carrying a spare tube. I will now be carrying 13 rolls of duct in case I get a flat tire.
I noticed you got a coil in the rear? Id love to see a video of how it compares to your air.
You should go to a place in Santa Cruz California called Harvey West it’s a really fun dirt jumper spot I think you’d enjoy it
OK, this was a bit gimmicky but the Red Green reference at the end saved it! I'm pullin for ya, we're all in this together!
Hay innovation. Instead of carrying an extra tube or bacon strips just bring 15 rolls of duct tape for puncture protection.
Your frequent music changing is hilarious!
Timing is important I suppose
Red Green would be proud. That's some great Original Content!
Ridiculous hahaha. 🙌
Great video! I love your content so much! Are you going to do a whistmas video?
This is the most ridiculous video you have ever made. I LOVE IT!

love the red green reference at the end. excellent video! love the creativity
Love the Red Green joke at the end. Hilarious video!
Well that's one way to beat inflation.
Literally.
Have you looked into Specialized tires? The new ones are apparently pretty good, slightly less performance then Maxxis but also $60-75 USD
Imagine doing this on a Hardtail 😂
That'd be unhealthy.
Eric Pilgrim?
Seems to me that he's doing something little bit different ... but kinda the same.
Wow, Now you just need a duct tape helmet and knee pads.
Was wondering how much faster the breaking components would wear out with 16 lbs tires, enjoyed this vid very fun and Enjoyed the red green reference at the end too

Eric that was an outstanding video, I loved it, definitly something different, and very enjoyable. Red Green would be very proud
lemme guess, inspired by CBoysTV. They made duct tape tire on their sema truck and went offroading in it.
If I saw you on the trail, I'd probably give you a second look and go, what the... What was that?

Wow!!! I can't believe it.. $132 for bike tyre?!?!!? I can buy Continental Race king cross country between £19.99 - £29.99
They should test rear suspension like this by how it reacts best with its curved path over rocks n’ roots with a fully stiff tire
You should put drop bars on your mountain bike and see how that rides
Bike tyre are so expensive than car tyre. IKR. And theres a little bit of Sam Pilgrim in this.

I'd like to suggest just filling an entire tyre (or inner tube) with slime sealant to see how that copes.....could be quite bouncy!

That was fun! I especially liked the Red Green reference at the end.
