    The only problem I have with this set is the price.
    I know Lego uses smaller pieces for details but this just doesn't look like 160$ set.
    I think 120$ (at max) would be more reasonable

  • @stijnd5268
    @stijnd5268 Місяць тому +188

    the original one was 65cm long, this one 46cm. I feel that for playsets lego should take a small step back detail wise (as much as I love high detailed models) to just to give those pieces to making it bigger as that is what kids enjoy the most.

    No BD-1 is alright to me (though I would love more) but no poncho is a big miss, they gave Saw an exclusive cloth piece so why not go all out for Cal too?
    Other than that the SD looks really good for the level of detail they packed in for the size, and the off proportions aren’t all too bad considering it’s a play set. Although I wonder if they would add one to the 18+ starship collection at some point, being one of the most popular ships I can’t imagine it’d take long. Then maybe we’d look at this one a bit differently.

    Personally I like that it's smaller with good detail because I don't have a lot of space. I was getting tired of sets that are large just to be large. I'll get it because I don't have a star destroyer yet but really wish it came with a stand and plaque for the price.

    The 2014 version was the biggest set I ever owned as a kid. I love these sets and seeing the variations of their design and especially interiors. This one has an interesting smaller hybrid compared to the last one, but seemingly makes a more effective use of space. Cool to see.

  • @AldenG
    @AldenG 25 днів тому +2

    I have the '14 version. That one would be about $170 today, adjusted for inflation and about 200 less pieces. However, that one is noticeably bigger with the same amount of interior space. I think the bridge looks better in the older one.
    I really wish they'd update the Darth Vader minifig, once you notice he is looking upwards you really can't unsee it.

    I get the impression they have given with one hand, more minifigs than you would expect, and taken with the other in terms of size.
    The 2021 Imperial Light Cruiser was approx. 5 in. (13 cm) high, 22.5 in. (58 cm) long and 8.5 in. (22 cm) wide. This set for comparison is approx. 6 in. (16 cm) high, 18 in. (46 cm) long and 11 in. (29 cm) deep. Obviously the ISD was much bigger than the Light Cruiser in canon but they will probably display well beside each other.

    I don't mind the small size, given that I lack the space to store larger sets in places my cat won't knock them over. Would love a providence/invisible hand in this scale; hopefully the midi scale providence currently out sells well enough for Lego to consider a playscale version of the invisible hand. Would even pair nicely with a reboot of the venator playset. I think maybe the reason they went smaller is because star destroyers have an issue with stability given their shape, and smaller sizes are more structurally sound for swooshing around and bumping into things. Just looking at the set, it seems incredibly structurally sound, likely taking notes from the imperial light cruiser set around the same size.
    Ironically, the best figures in the set is everything other than cal. All the imperials look excellent, especially the officers and Lego has always done a good job with Vader, but Cal without a Poncho is questionable. If I really want one, I'll probably just get 2 fabric capes to put front and back.
    I like it. Solid looking set, not the most mind-blowing thing they've ever done, but I hardly think it's gonna be a regrettable purchase.

    They set a standard by making all the other 25th anniversary minifigs really good, only to fall short on Cal. I played both Cal games twice, so I'm disappointed he doesn't have the poncho. Not gonna stop me from getting this one though, as the ISD is my favorite ship.

    Given what I want from a lego Star Destroyer, to look good first and foremost, I have kinda high hopes for this one. Aside from the noticeably wrong/caricatured proportions... it really looks good on those pictures! It doesn't look gappy, doesn't show inappropriate colors, and overall finish looks quite well done.
    It's a bit unfortunate that this one's shorter than even the Gideon's cruiser, but I think I can live with it.
    And I'm also kinda hopeful that the proportions won't look as bad (if still noticeable) when you look at them with your own eyes, what with perspective and all that. Unless it turns out to be really fragile or ugly, this doesn't seem too bad an option for my first lego ImpStar model. (Minifig selection is pretty good for me, too. Navy officer, technician, gunner, and navy trooper.. those are my favorite imperial classes. Honestly I could use one or two more of those navy work men instead of Vader or Stormie)
    Anyway, I would definitely love to see your review on this, Jang!

    I like it in the sense of the designing, over the set itself. Because the outside paneling and details look very good in their newer style that has higher details, but this particular set is flawed in size. So it wouldn’t be too hard to take previous bigger play-scale Star destroyer 75055 then rebuild/modify the exterior panels to be in the new one’s style. To end up with a perfect model, still big but with better exterior look

    I feel like this is more or less a test on how much they can push downsizing while keeping structural integrity and playability, taking into account a certain demographic. Most afol i feel has a bit of a clouded judgement when it comes to it, as we're not the primary target anymore. From what they've shown, this IS a good set. Arguably even better than the 2014 one (not counting the first order and light cruiser ones, tho the comparison does hold up all the same). The size on older models would make it hard to handle at times, and the structural integrity was already improved on compared to the 2006 model. I'd not mind the "chibi-ness" of some parts, lego is deformed compared to real life by nature, plus it allows for a few more details. The handle being completely hidden is a nice touch, and the spring loaded shooters are nigh invisible. I'll pick it up for sure, but that price seems quite rough. I admit i dont remember the part count on the last 2 destroyers they made, but i feel it was around the same (±100 pieces). Yes, the size is smaller, but i guess in the end it allows for a better space management when displaying it... Personally i dont care about the Cal minifig, it's fine and it's a minor, side thing you'd not mainly be paying for (just like with minifigs in expensive sets in general). Maybe could've used one more officer and stormtrooper, but no matter. It's sufficient enough for me. Idk, i need to hear more thoughts, let's talk bout it folks! 0w0

    2014 one was 19 inches long, and this one is 18 inches long according to Lego. It looks like they moved the bridge a lot further forward, maybe that’s why it seems so much smaller? Regardless it hurts to have Cal and bd1 split across two $100+ sets, especially since the Mantis at this scale would make such a good set

    So, I looked up "Commander Praji". I thought he was some guy from newer game or something, but turns out he's one of the imperial officers (Stormtroopeer Commander) who boarded Tantive IV at the start of A New Hope, with a rather memorable face and also 70's sideburns.

    They keep getting smaller! It's difficult to judge from photos so I had a look at the three playset scale Star Destroyers that Lego have produced and counted the studs on the leading edge of the hull: 2006 = 70 studs, 2014 = 61 studs, 2024 = 55 studs!

    LEGO has to always try and balance out their two audiences: adult collectors who want detailed sets for display and children for whom the set is a toy. It feels like more recently they are catering toward the adult collectors. Many older sets weren’t as accurate or detailed but instead we had more play features and more unique ones.

    To me this looks like the best ISD LEGO has honestly ever done, even better than the UCS one. The bridge is too big, yes, but not extremely so, and the ratio of studs to tiles is excellent. But it’s way too expensive and the Cal figure is very lacklustre.

    I've got the one from 2005 or 2006. It's the best one so far (minifig-compatible ISD). And not only because it has been the largest one. There's so much stuff inside; so many play features.
    And don't worry; I do not "suffer" from any "nostalgia sickness" or whatnot. When a newer iteration of an old set turns out objectively better, then I absolutely have no problem to admit it. Right from the top of my head, this would, for example, apply for virtually all the minifig-compatible non-UCS Millennium Falcons, the latest non-UCS AT-AT Walker, or Lego's second generation of the Delta-7 Jedi Starfighters (the ones with the bubble canopy). And I bet that there exist many, many more such examples.
    However, I still kind of do like this new ISD; it's "cute". I will probably get it and after some light modifications of the exterior, I will pretend that it is the 'in-universe' smaller Victory-class Star Destroyer. 🙂
