Not the video I was expecting, but I remember having the Alien Conquest tripod set nearly a decade ago, and seeing all these aliens was like a blast to the past!
Galaxy Squad was my early childhood, I have so much nostalgia for that Lego theme. My dad and I even made a stop motion of one of the sets building itself. 🤩
I know it's not a 'set', but Idea Book 6000 had the brick heads. That's possibly the earliest version of LEGO officially publishing something with ideas on how to make aliens with LEGO.
I was immediately thinking this! I checked mine, it's from 1979. And it has a complete alien civilization/space town with monorail built from the old blue train tracks and everything :D
7:47 The backstory for the origin of the galaxy squad aliens was mentioned in one of the Lego magazines as a result of Lord Vampyre’s moonstone beam from Lego Monster Fighters malfunctioning and summoning the aliens.
I was lucky enough to have the two largest U.F.O sets, and they are to this day some of my favorites LEGO ever made. I don’t understand why this theme is so overlooked by the community in general, that regard it as a spin-off of classic space. The figures alone were waaay ahead of their time. Thank you for including them in this video!
I'm always so impressed when looking up the UFO sets too. The designers got so creative with those big panels pieces! And then of course the aliens themselves are just perfect.
As an adult I really dig the "serious" themes (UFO, insectoids, mars mission) over the more cartoonish ones which are probably great for younger audiences.
@@CheeseyStudiosI think Lego has fallen to the extremes of those. Too many extremely mundane series without the hint of fantasy or fictional elements. Clicked on this video so fast! Haha, love seeing LEGO Space represented out there. 😊 Your Insectoids "Planetary Prowler" video was probably the first one I ever saw of yours, so it was cool to see that one again! That was my first big Insectoids set and it really opened my eyes to a theme I had otherwise overlooked. I'm getting pretty close now to owning every single Space set that released between 1990 and 1999, by the way! Insectoids is posing to be the last real hurdle... so many small sets and minifigure variants! 🙃
That's an impressive collection! Such a great time for LEGO space too. I thought I had a pretty healthy collection of Insectoids figures myself, until I started researching for this video. I had no idea a few had leg printing as well! I've definitely gotta get my hands on one of those at some point.
As someone who grew up at the age of the space themed Lego sets from the early 90s I am so happy that. Lego City has introduced space theme sets once more, and included now all these alien sets, even though they're very kid friendly compared to the design. we got in the early 90s. the kid inside me is just so happy to see them trying to tap into what they were well known back then without using the Star Wars title / brand.
You wanna know what alien I'd like to see more of in LEGO? Symbiotes. We need more LEGO Symbiotes. We have Venom & Carnage, sure, and a bunch of Venomized characters, and even Pork Grind if you count him, but we don't have other Symbiotes like Riot, Scream, Lasher, Phage, Agony, Sleeper, Anti-Venom, Toxin, Scorn, Raze, Mania, Mayhem and a bunch of others that LEGO probably hasn't even *thought* of! 4:44 Hold up, I HAD ONE OF THOSE GUYS!!
I also missed Galaxy Squad. My Dark Ages happened right around Space Police, but I managed to snag a set with the four-armed guy, whom I still have and love. I hope they continue to do space sets throughout this year with the cross-theme branding-some new aliens would be dope!!!
This definitely could just be nostalgia speaking but galaxy squad was an absolute gem of a theme, so many great builds and play features, definitely recommend picking up a few of the sets if you get a chance
The insectoid builds were absolutely awesome, with great parts. I also like the design of the spacemen. The aliens themselves though, not a big deal to me.
The "alien queen" from Alien Conquest is not the alien queen, they are the commander named Hypaxxus-8 The Alien Villianess figure you showed I'm pretty sure is implied to be the queen (a few CMFs had descriptions on lego's website and her's mentions being the ruler of an empire) Also the whole "different names in different regions" thing led to one Insectoids character having an unfortunate name here in the US
@@CheeseyStudios The US name in question is Gypsy Moth, sharing her name with a real world species of moth. In the 1990s, it was just an innocent name that easily evokes both the Zotaxians' nomadic nature and their insectoid vehicles. But nowadays, there's been strong backlash against the word "gypsy", so there's a growing contingent of LEGO fans who would prefer that we use the character's original Danish name, Navigator Sharp.
@@CheeseyStudios yea I used to love it as a kid, pretty simple RTS but it was still fun, a remake that like fleshed out the gameplay and had some custom unit/base maker tool to further embrace the whole Lego aspect would be excellent. 💪
This video has so much nostalgia, but 6:45 might be the biggest--I have never wanted a minifigure from a series more, and remember hunting at a Legoland in Orlando to make sure she was the one I got. I don't even know why, but I've always thought she's awesome--and still do!
Great video! Even though there were no official aliens in sets until the 1990s (and Lego infamously shut down the idea of Seatron as an alien-based theme), you could still find them in the early days of the themes! Lego Idea book (6000) from 1980 showcases the story of two minifigures visiting all three core themes (Town, Castle and Space) and in the Space segment they encounter aliens! They're all brick-built, mostly by using various elements as heads instead of a regular figure head, but still. I had that book as a kid and it was enormously influential on me in getting me to invent my own builds. Another early official Lego product that features aliens is the two-part comic book series "Jim Spaceborn" written and drawn by danish cartoonist Frank Madsen. The two stories came out between 1984 and 1987 depending on what country you lived in and featured a group of classic Lego astronauts tossed across the galaxy, Voyager-style. And of course they encounter lots of aliens, though in these comics the aliens are sometimes depicted as not being made from bricks, which bummed me out as a kid.
One of my favorite memes is "You either die a specialty theme, or live long enough to see yourself become LEGO City." It truly is weird to see City just completely take over Space, but when you have Star Wars, Icons' licensed stuff, and Blue Cats sets, plus all of Ninjago's Mechs, it makes sense that a specific Space theme doesn't exist on its own. Dreamzzz also kind of carves up some of that Space pie with Z-Blob builds and Mr. Oz with all his science stuff, but Space has kind of generally meant Sci-Fi in the LEGO community, and there's plenty of it in LEGO, just not a dedicated theme. City's really the only thing remaining that's an original pillar of LEGO if you look at Town, Space, Castle, and Pirates, and while I'm not complaining about some gap years, City kind of taking over other themes is always weird when to me it should really just be real life stuff, not even near future like from a few years ago, and a bit of what's being done here. But I don't know anything about marketing, so whatever, still cool to see some neat Space stuff coming from LEGO.
I suppose when you look at that way, we've never really been hurting for space. I suppose that's how LEGO justifies no Castle theme either - there's HP for that.
1: you’re right about space in that way. City eating it up meant to me that Lego City is a city-state which is running these missions. Also: in no way does Lego HP justify the lack of Castle!
There’s a bit of lore for insectoids where it’s stated the energy fired at the moon from the monster hunter crystals actually caught their attention brining them to earth’s moon. Basically picture a moth drawn to a light.
Absolutely LOVED galaxy squad, got a few of the sets one christmas and they are some of my favourites. Lego aliens in general are all so cool, really wish we could see more of them more often
Comparing apples to oranges but I love seeing the progression of how Mega made molds for different Covenant species and Flood victims. Grunts used to be tiny, but now they’re roughly the right size to canon funny enough. New Flood sets can be properly disgusting. The Halo Heroes Keyes figure, when cold, has an absolutely disgusting texture on the Flood bits. Really makes you think one single Flood spore could destroy a species…
@@CheeseyStudiosI’d definitely recommend talking to some of the big figures in the Halo Mega community, The Domain and Demarcation Media come to mind first and foremost.
favourite Lego aliens to me is the insectoids, i dont think i ever got more than 2 sets from the line, but their helmets are some of the best ever made for a space theme imo
Alien conquest is my favourite, nostalgia is a big factor but i have always adored robot guys and the robot alien was just the coolest thing 6yr old me had ever seen
I like how friendly these new aliens look. I actually prefer it that way. I didn't have any Life on Mars set, but I knew them through a videogame, LEGO Racers 2. It has 5 racing worlds, and Mars was one of them. I love how the boss, Riegel, didn't drive a car or a little speeder/spaceship, but a MECH. It towered any vehicle so far XD XD My favorite world was DinoIsland, though, and its boss was Sam Sanister (Yes, Sanister, no Sinister)/Baron von Barron. Fun times n_n
@@CheeseyStudios Both LEGO Racers games are my only connection to the original series. If you can get them both, do it. Memorable tracks and characters, one rival and cup champ being one of the tech-droids you covered here. Very good games for younger audiences.
I'm betting this new space line was supposed to be its own theme, but they probably weren't confident in that given how short every other space theme lasts. So they probably threw it into City to ensure longevity. After all, City, Star Wars, Marvel, and Ninjago refuse to die.
Oh man I still have a few sets of Zotaxians. I remember the piece that was thermochromic and when touched would show an image, My favourite lego piece of all time
I love the new space sets and like you say they really hearken back to a lot of different space themes. I hope Lego keeps pushing the boundary with the new city space theme and builds upon the cooperative space exploration we saw with life on mars in the past with these new aliens :3
@@CheeseyStudios yeah it was! I hope they continue to develop the theme and make the aliens more present, maybe in a second wave even 😳 although maybe I'm getting ahead of myself a bit lol, it just kinda feels like Lego is building to something here. Maybe I'm being too optimistic but it seems like they could start a whole new space theme here. Combining some of cities space port sets with this new wave, and then expanding upon it with some more classical inspired space exploration and we could have Lego Space 2!! ヽ(。◕o◕。)ノ.
The Life on Mars figures are some of my favorite figures EVER. Rigel was the best, and I loved pitting them against each other. Wish you went a little more into them here (or another video?).
My favorites are clearly the 1997-1998 UFO and Insectoids. The shoulder armor is great, the bubble head dome from insectoids as well, but the UFO helms are the best (also their heards and prints - back then that was such a rare occasion to have that many good prints - and each came with at least 4-5 different torsos - these days, they can't even be bothered to recolor the base torso a bit for the 3 different colors of space figs - love the new theme, but this seems like a small cost cut that need not be there).
Lego aliens appeared back in the 80s. They featured in a Lego annual where they had inverted arms and 3 by 1 blocks as head, with a two by one placed in the middle.
I remember UFO and Insectoids. As a kid, I saved up the pocket money I earned through chores, to get the 6979 Interstellar Starfighter. I still think they're pretty cool now, especially the "fibre optic" lighting they had, which looked amazing in the dark.
I absolutely adored Mars Mission when I was a kid. Another thing that's changed in Lego is something that they've pretty much stopped doing is "army vs. army" themes, which 2007 Castle, Mars Mission, and Alien Conquest were. Nowadays everything has to be about a small cast of characters, and it's honestly sorta boring.. Mars Mission always had a bit of a horror element to me, not in-your-face or overly spoopy, but remember that trailer of the astronaut running? Followed by "something's out there..", then the flash games, where you were running from something, and if you failed too many times it was implied you were eaten? Not to mention the AWESOME flash RTS that was crystalien conflict. To me, as a child who grew up playing RTS games, it felt like Lego's version of Starcraft just with a much more clean aesthetic and not a scrappy "rugged" look. We weren’t attached to any one group of characters and each set was like a battle pack with varying vehicles and scenes for either faction with the story told through details in the sets. Lego seems afraid to have real "battle" themes now, everything has to be attached to a small group of characters rather then a whole faction and it's a bit disappointing. I know themes with main characters are much easier to get attached to, but to me I enjoyed how some themes had "blank slates", it let you make up your own story for these characters which imo let you be even more creative. Also the designs for the aliens are just so awesome, the fact that they glow in the dark is so cool!
Seeing these old space themes makes me wish I had been collecting Lego back then, unfortunately most of them are older than me!😂 But the original themes, characters and lore are really cool and unique!
5:51 there's also Brick Daddy, who is the leader of all the criminals, hes got a dope purple suit and hat, as well as a glow in the dark head. his space limo is prolly my favourite set of the theme
Insectoids and especially Life On Mars were my jam as a kid, and I really do love that they emphasized a peaceful meeting of societies with the latter. I have plenty of respect for subsequent stuff as sets and I know other people would have grown up with those, but I'll admit their narrative framing always rubbed me the wrong way in comparison. So that this new CitySpace theme seems to be going back to a more optimistic take on first contact is really nice to see ^.^ That being said, I really love the first UFO designs as an inventive and imposing take on a villainous alien faction, and that helmet design remains a favorite of mine to this day, and it's cool to see how that design language carried on into Insectoids. I think Life On Mars will always be my favorite for the sheer variety on display, but honestly all of these are pretty darn cool in their own right.
Ah I just love the space police aliens. And that is so much nostaliga talking. I use to try and collect the sets so I could get all of them. It was such a fun theme I miss dearly
I really wish I had been into it while it was around. The aliens from that theme are so awesome! I've enjoyed picking up the sets as an adult though too.
I grew up with a few sets of those first 3 alien series but grew out of Lego not long after. I remember being disappointed once I got the 2nd series aliens in-hand because I thought their clear green helmets would be a similar elongated shape to the cool helmets of the series 1 aliens.
my favorite aliens where always from the alien conquest sets, I NEEDED those sets back in the day, unfortunately my family back then was not interested in buying 300 dollars worth of legos for every christmas, the vibrant greens and the cartoony color coded feel of the sets made my little baby brain go crazy
I really want an Area 51 styled set or something that celebrates LEGOs vast history of Aliens, like having one or two of all of them in one set, along with scientists and MIB minifigs and such. Even a crashed UFO being examined, in the style or near the style of the first UFO sets would be awesome! I doubt they would do it, sadly, but I would love to buy a set like that. Another cool idea, maybe sets that pretend to be normal LEGO City sets but are actually aliens hiding in plain sight, ala Invader Zim, maybe in a classic 1950s style! The aliens could be like either a double sided mkngig head, one side "human" the other alien, or like alien head masks you can swap out on the heads. There's just something about this UFO alien themes that I feel could be have become awesome and fun! (I guess many would consider aliens and UFOs creepy, but I grew up with many, MANY horror ideas as normal, so I find it cool, or something?)
I adore the new aliens. In my opinion, Lego is at it's best when you can reuse pieces to build something brand new. You can totally use those green crowns to represent a house plant or a splash in pool a green liquid.
@@CheeseyStudios As nostalgic as I am for the Lego sets I grew up with, I'm am kinda glad to see them using less over-specialized parts. I remember having the 97' Cyber Saucer set growing up and so many of its pieces where impossible to reuse. Those quarter saucer panels don't really work with any other build.
My favorite thing about Rench from Space Police 3 is the uniform - he's a member of the Blacktron Gang! I really want to amass an amount of different figure parts with Blacktron prints so I can put together a a colorful little gang of them, the abundance of references Blacktron gets in other themes is great for that.
Galaxy squad had easily some of the best mech and ship designs I’ve seen out of Lego to this day. The simple but bold color pallet with three factions all united in design by white looked super clean. It also had an overall bulky esthetic that nicely separated it from anything else I’ve seen, maybe except for the Rex fist ship from the second Lego movie.
I remember when I was like 6 I came home from school and my dad had brought me and my brother both the blue space ship / crawler galaxy squad set, good times
My favourite aliens were the ones from life on Mars. There was the alien in the purple suit, she was called Cassiopeia after the constellation, and when we learned the letters of the alphabet we had to bring things to class that start with the various letters, so when we learned C I brought Cassiopeis with me. I must have been probably 7 at the time, as I always had my birthday in the first week of the new school year pretty much. I have fond memories of that space station, when I saw it at the mall it was constructed as a big set behind glass but you could operate the pipe system. I really wanted to have it and then for my birthday my mother and godmother got it for me, because obviously the set was way to be for my age, but I loved to play with it in the years to come. Thank you for the good memories! Still got all my Lego, and I plan to rebuilt all the sets I had. Only problem could be, that the turquoise arms became kinda brittle, and there haven't been new ones produced in that color since then, as far as I know.
That Insectoids commercial in 2:18 stuck with me ever since LEGO put it as a complimentary video on MyLEGONetwork (gold star if you remember that site). Having some kid get instant insect armor or whatever was going on here was a rather gripping visual to pair with a theme where the aliens that time around were still rather human/minifig looking all things considered. The Martians remain my favorite too, and I'm all for advocating that eventually LEGO redesigns the figures in someway to reintroduce them. It does go against the last few space-exploration waves treating Mars more "realistically" but I feel like its worth defying that to bring these guys back.
@@CheeseyStudios Lego could improve Insiders a lot by providing swag harkening back to the OG Lego club members that remember getting membership cards from 1999, then the 2 generations of Club pages, then MLN
I remember Space Police III getting some flak for making all of the aliens villains, and that the explanation for it was that they originally planned to make the aliens good or neutral, and have some of them be civilians, but in play-testing all of the kids made the aliens the bad guys anyway... and it makes me wonder if the design of the LEGO City aliens was intentionally made as harmless and friendly-looking as possible in an attempt to encourage kids not to see them as villains this time.
I think I was in college by the time the first of the 'official' aliens were released. Which meant that as a child I had to make do with the Spyrius Robots, and the 'unofficial' aliens: a castle-figure with a 1x2 pin-receptor piece for a head (as suggested in one of the late-80's/early-90's idea books), and the islander-painted-face-head placed under the helmet of one of the standard-space-factions. The "Mister Worf" style alien of the crew, if you will...
omg when I was a kid I actually had that first set shown for Galaxy Squad ! I remember scrapping the parts and making my own cartoon UFO MOC that I still have today. underrated theme imo. The insect "vehicles" were super cool and original, shame it only got one wave.
gonna be honest, my favorite was EASILY Alien Conquest. Though, that may be due to the fact that I grew up with it. The design of the UFOs and Alien soldiers was exactly what I wanted from a LEGO Aliens theme. I wish they'd bring it back. Space Police was also a beloved theme, although that was shorter-lived for me than Alien Conquest was. I wish I still had that UFO from the UFO Abduction set. That was my favorite set when I was a kid XD.
Surprisingly, giving its rather basic premise, Alien Conquest remains quite unique both stylistically and thematically amongst other space themes. I really like it too. It was a no-nonsense sort of theme - good guys vs goofy bad guys!
@@CheeseyStudios True. It's really interesting to see how many different ways you can do aliens. Like, LEGO has done quite a few themes centered around aliens and not a single one looks like another. Each one has a unique design and that's pretty impressive to pull off. But yeah, the sorta cartoonish and simple style of the Alien Conquest ones is where it's at for me XD. It's also why I liked Space Police because the aliens looked kinda goofy. They give off a sorta "If Men In Black was a cartoon" vibe. I remember fighting with my brother over who got to keep the Squidman minifigure cuz it was our favorite one XD. Anyway, great video as always. It's always fun to revisit these parts of my childhood XD.

Also the whole "different names in different regions" thing led to one Insectoids character having an unfortunate name here in the US
That makes sense! Scared to look up the Insectoids name lol
Space Police is just unmatched for me. One of my very favorite themes.
It really is so much fun. I've been starting to collect a few sets this past year!
Shout-out to Lego battles on the DS, one of the RTS games of all time and definitely deserves a remake 🫡
I've honestly heard a lot of good things about it!
She's so stylish! The colors are wonderful
They may be one of simplest designs, but I simply adore those new silly little guys
I can totally respect that! It's nice to have aliens that aren't minifigures for once
I used to love Space Police, the design of the ships and the aliens was really cool
The ships did look so sweet. They were quite unlike anything else that had come before. There was just so much detail!
This video plays like a Lego Rewind episode and I absolutely loved it. Great trip down memory lane.
Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed. I had a blast putting this one together.
I'll definitely have to check those out! I bet there's all sorts of gems in those early books and comics.
@@CheeseyStudios Let me know if you need to know more.
One of my favorite memes is "You either die a specialty theme, or live long enough to see yourself become LEGO City."
It truly is weird to see City just completely take over Space, but when you have Star Wars, Icons' licensed stuff, and Blue Cats sets, plus all of Ninjago's Mechs, it makes sense that a specific Space theme doesn't exist on its own.
Coming 2025: Lego City: Star Wars
@@sonicguyver7445 That's just Coruscant...
What is Blue Cats?
There’s a bit of lore for insectoids where it’s stated the energy fired at the moon from the monster hunter crystals actually caught their attention brining them to earth’s moon. Basically picture a moth drawn to a light.
Oh yeah, for the Galaxy Squad Buggoids! Someone else had mentioned that too. A wacky story, but I like it
Absolutely LOVED galaxy squad, got a few of the sets one christmas and they are some of my favourites. Lego aliens in general are all so cool, really wish we could see more of them more often
I can't think of a LEGO alien I dislike! They've always been really neat
Space Police was such a great line! I used to use the aliens to fill out my Star Wars builds
That's a great use for them! Love how colorful and varied they are.
Might honestly have to take a look at those!
@@CheeseyStudiosI’d definitely recommend talking to some of the big figures in the Halo Mega community, The Domain and Demarcation Media come to mind first and foremost.
Really loved those U.F.O. helmets and armor, didn't realize they were actually the first Lego alien theme so that makes them even more impressive
I was blown away by that too! They really got it right on the first try
My favorite theme. Made my own story for them.
2:05 You thought we wouldn't notice the background, but we did
lol that was very fun to make
favourite Lego aliens to me is the insectoids, i dont think i ever got more than 2 sets from the line, but their helmets are some of the best ever made for a space theme imo
Love that trans-neon green color
Alpha Draconis has always been one of my favorite minifigures especially after seeing his helmet in Lego Racers. I just had to have it. 😅
That helmet is so good 👌
The sad part is that non of these Aliens look like my species. Humans can never seem to get our appearance right.
This is so sad :c
Alien conquest is my favourite, nostalgia is a big factor but i have always adored robot guys and the robot alien was just the coolest thing 6yr old me had ever seen
That was a great theme. Hoping to do a full-on Revisit of it at some point!
I gotta learn more about this game! Everyone always has such good things to say about it
@@CheeseyStudios Both LEGO Racers games are my only connection to the original series. If you can get them both, do it. Memorable tracks and characters, one rival and cup champ being one of the tech-droids you covered here. Very good games for younger audiences.
@@CheeseyStudios Not only learn, but if possible, play it!
Lego had some cool ass moulds back in the day, such a shame a lot of these really cool alien pieces arent made anymore
I do miss their in-house themes a great deal. We just don't get this level of imagination out of licensed stuff.
I'm betting this new space line was supposed to be its own theme, but they probably weren't confident in that given how short every other space theme lasts. So they probably threw it into City to ensure longevity. After all, City, Star Wars, Marvel, and Ninjago refuse to die.
Friends also refused to die LOL, 10 years old and I’m certainly happy it is
It was probably a smart move! If only they could figure out how to bring back Castle under the City banner lolol
I like the life on mars aliens. A lot of themes are aliens vs humans but its cool to see them collaborating.
Agreed. Such a cool vibe going on with LoM
I love the "adorable goofy-looking guys" in the background nonchalantly bouncing around😆😆😆
Oh man I still have a few sets of Zotaxians. I remember the piece that was thermochromic and when touched would show an image, My favourite lego piece of all time
Those stickers are so cool! I was happy to see mine still work all these years later
I don’t think Lego will ever quite recapture the cool factor of the UFO Zotaxians. They’re definitely my favorite minifigures that Lego has ever made
I have to agree. They're so awesome
I love the new space sets and like you say they really hearken back to a lot of different space themes. I hope Lego keeps pushing the boundary with the new city space theme and builds upon the cooperative space exploration we saw with life on mars in the past with these new aliens :3
I hope we get more of these sets too! This first wave was really great
@@CheeseyStudios yeah it was!
I’m glad Lego had such a vibrant variety of aliens
Makes me glad to call this planet home
Indeed. Love the variety!
The Life on Mars figures are some of my favorite figures EVER. Rigel was the best, and I loved pitting them against each other. Wish you went a little more into them here (or another video?).
This is the video for you :) ua-cam.com/video/qUbNzP88r_g/v-deo.html
The Lego UFO aliens still have some of the best helmets in LEGO history, and shoulder pads.
100%. So good! They definitely hold up.
Sometimes you can't beat the classics. The special pieces they made were so awesome!
Honestly wish the Lego City space sub theme could be it’s own theme. Love how they are depicting the new aliens not as villains or conquerors of earth
It's a very nice change of pace!
I like how you make reviews and put twists on it :D really refreshing
Lego aliens appeared back in the 80s. They featured in a Lego annual where they had inverted arms and 3 by 1 blocks as head, with a two by one placed in the middle.
I saw pictures! So fun
I remember UFO and Insectoids.
As a kid, I saved up the pocket money I earned through chores, to get the 6979 Interstellar Starfighter.
I still think they're pretty cool now, especially the "fibre optic" lighting they had, which looked amazing in the dark.
I feel the sets hold up quite well too, especially the figures!
I grew up with Space Police and Alien Conquest!
Good times… :)
Indeed - great themes for sure! I wish I had been more into Space Police. Looking back the theme had so many amazing ships
I had mars mission as a kid, but i remember space police much better, as i was a little older. I always loved Frenzy, and his four arms
He's one of my favorites from Space Police as well 😂
I absolutely adored Mars Mission when I was a kid.
LEGO definitely doesn't have the same vibes anymore, and I miss that a lot. I do feel the 2000's really were a second golden age for the company.
Zotax aliens, hands down.
All of the minifigures were just insane from the printing to the helmets and armor.
Crazy to think they're a QUARTER OF A CENTURY old o_O
@@CheeseyStudios Doesn't really feel like it...but yeah =P
Yoooo the lego battles mention! Awesome! I love that game! Love how comprehensive your stuff always is!!
Thank you! I do really enjoy researching for videos like this - I always learn some new stuff too!
Seeing these old space themes makes me wish I had been collecting Lego back then, unfortunately most of them are older than me!😂 But the original themes, characters and lore are really cool and unique!
LEGO's in-house themes are so great. I really do miss them! There was just so much unfettered creativity.
Seeing the first gen hit a different level of nostalgia
Yeah, that one sure takes me back too!
I grew up with the 97 ones so those ones take my heart.
They are pretty epic 👌
Galaxy Squad is underrated in my opinion. Love those sets and minifigures
After researching the sets and figs for this video, I'm inclined to agree!
Alpha draconis was also a npc driver against you in the Lego racers game from 1999
Ha! That's awesome. What didn't LEGO Racers have honestly lol
5:51 there's also Brick Daddy, who is the leader of all the criminals, hes got a dope purple suit and hat, as well as a glow in the dark head. his space limo is prolly my favourite set of the theme
I wanted to buy him so bad, but he is priceyyy D,:
Insectoids and especially Life On Mars were my jam as a kid, and I really do love that they emphasized a peaceful meeting of societies with the latter. I have plenty of respect for subsequent stuff as sets and I know other people would have grown up with those, but I'll admit their narrative framing always rubbed me the wrong way in comparison. So that this new CitySpace theme seems to be going back to a more optimistic take on first contact is really nice to see ^.^
That being said, I really love the first UFO designs as an inventive and imposing take on a villainous alien faction, and that helmet design remains a favorite of mine to this day, and it's cool to see how that design language carried on into Insectoids.
I think Life On Mars will always be my favorite for the sheer variety on display, but honestly all of these are pretty darn cool in their own right.
Life on Mars is so good, unique in so many ways. Just glad it exists!
One of my favorite sets as a kid was the “Smash N Grab” Space Police set. One of these days I need to get back to rebuilding it.
That theme had some really cool sets. I'm excited to rebuild mine, too!
I will cherish my OG alien kits, love that helm and armour
They're some of the best accessories of all time imp
Can't beat the original UFO helmets. Those are just incredible!
I love the new lil City aliens. It feels more like they're friendly wildlife and something to check out.
Yeah! We've never really had aliens anything like this before, so that's cool
my favorite aliens where always from the alien conquest sets, I NEEDED those sets back in the day, unfortunately my family back then was not interested in buying 300 dollars worth of legos for every christmas, the vibrant greens and the cartoony color coded feel of the sets made my little baby brain go crazy
I do love the style. It fits LEGO so well
Alien Conquest was so damn amazing. I want a remake of this one
That theme was a ton of fun. Gave us some really cool vehicles too!
Some spookier aliens could be super cool. I do love how UFO gave us a taste of that!
I adore the new aliens. In my opinion, Lego is at it's best when you can reuse pieces to build something brand new. You can totally use those green crowns to represent a house plant or a splash in pool a green liquid.
I always love to see new recolors!
Loved the Space Police aliens so much as a kid
They're so fun and diverse!
My favorite was Brick Daddy from the Lunar Limo set, just for the purple fedora alone lmao
The small, new ones are so adorable.
They really are. Gotta love that smile, ha!
Cheesey Studios never fails to get me addicted to another Lego theme
lol! I feel like I'm always getting myself addicted to new themes too. It was definitely Space Police this time around 🤣
I saw that! So so cool! I'm really glad I ended up buying him for this video.
I absolutely love the galaxy squad aliens, they are from my favourite space theme and they remind me of tyranids from 40k
They have some amazing detail. Really glad I was able to pick them up!
@CheeseyStudios if I get the chance, I will definitely try and buy some from bricklink. But from checking, they are a bit pricey 😥
Yeah, I was pretty surprised by the prices. They're quite rare it seems!
maybe I'm a just a youngling, but space police and alien conquest is so nostalgic!!!
That stuff takes me back too! Good times.
I've gotta get my hands on some sets at some point. I completely missed out on the theme 😭
I remember when I was like 6 I came home from school and my dad had brought me and my brother both the blue space ship / crawler galaxy squad set, good times
So epic. I think I really missed out by not getting any of those sets!
when i first saw the 1997 alien figures i thought those were pretty modern its insane how well designed and made they were bck then
They hold up sooo well. Those helmets are still some of my favorite all-time pieces.
The brittle arms is really unfortunate. I've had a few snap on me as well 😪
That Insectoids commercial in 2:18 stuck with me ever since LEGO put it as a complimentary video on MyLEGONetwork (gold star if you remember that site).
MLN 😭 Oh how I miss it
@@CheeseyStudios Lego could improve Insiders a lot by providing swag harkening back to the OG Lego club members that remember getting membership cards from 1999, then the 2 generations of Club pages, then MLN
I did always wonder about that. People clearly love the theme though, so I think that probably was the right move as a toy.
God I miss the UFO theme, one of the first lego themes I remember having as a kid.
I'm so glad I was able to get a set from the theme, even though it was a bit before my time. Love the vibes!
The 2024 aliens are utterly adorable, I love them! They're just lil guys!
They're so cute!
The Ideas book aliens are quite funny 😂
Mars Mission is still the best Lego theme to me! But I never got to buy Insectoids, and the figures look great
Very glad to see a fellow Mars Mission enjoyer!
omg when I was a kid I actually had that first set shown for Galaxy Squad ! I remember scrapping the parts and making my own cartoon UFO MOC that I still have today. underrated theme imo. The insect "vehicles" were super cool and original, shame it only got one wave.
This thing looks so cool: brickset.com/sets/70708-1/Hive-Crawler I'd love to get some sets at some point
I just realised I grew up with all of these, except for the second entry
Sounds like you were a space fan!
Woah, I totally forgot about the Insectoids! That theme had some of my favorite minifigs to play with.
They're so cool! I remember briefly getting obsessed with the theme a few years ago. The sets are a lot of fun
@@CheeseyStudios The magnetic stickers on the crystals were like the coolest thing I had ever seen xD
I miss the aliens from Alien Invasion and Space Police
I love the designs from both themes, yeah!
gonna be honest, my favorite was EASILY Alien Conquest.
One thing that I wonder if anybody else has ever played is a game called Lego loco it was a train design game. There are so many obscure Lego games like Lego alpha team which was a puzzle game, lego island 2, lego racer
I can't say I've ever heard of LEGO Loco! It's got a nice ring to it
Such a fun video! A lovely look all the amazing aliens of lego’s past LoM martians have got to be my favourite just because of how fun and original it is. Great video I love so many of these aliens great video, gotta be one of my favourites ❤❤
Thank you! Life on Mars is so awesome. Truly one of kind
I've had one of those grey helmets for the longest time and had no idea where it came from. Cool to finally find out
They're such cool pieces! Probably one of my favorite helmets even now.
I loved Lego Galaxy Squad, always sad I could never get more of their sets.
I'm rather sad I missed out too 😭
Your revisiting Life on Mars videos made me get all the unique Martians, so thank you!
That's awesome! Love those Martians so much. The colors are great
I like em all. I think using any of them as background characters in my StarWars mocs help with not only some much needed population diversity but also help keep any scene, with an otherwise serious tone,a lil more playfull
Yeah! That's a great idea honestly
The UFO theme was SO good. I miss having those huge curved pieces on ships. Even the small one was cool. I'd kill for a remake!
It was fun to see how creative the designers got with those big panels!
