Forest Hill Drive doesn't get enough respect in the Rap world. I think most people treat this album as "Just a Good Album." But I honestly think it's one of the best Albums that come off last decade.
Forest Hills made me a Cole fan. His previous work was just not at this level yet. He had shown glimpses but not yet. This is a top tier album. Production , Lyrical content, Progression, Variety and overall theme. This album was a real turning point I remember Big Sean dropping I Decided couple years after this and seeing his music mature in a similar manner.
I'm probably a bigger Cole than any of yall and I disagree. Fhd went triple platinum with no features and limited press( *edit* AND He produced 90% of the album on his own). It's definitely regarded as a certified classic
Nahh the way dad was enjoying this album made me so happy! It is actually very thought-provoking to see how much he was enjoying the production considering how people call Cole boring. St. Tropez is my favourite song off this album!!
the best thing about the Album is all the production is soo clean. i remember seeing in the doc that like 1 hr before the album had to be submitted he was cycling (exaclty the moment in the intro music video) he stops the whole shoot and calls up his engineer to sort a certain placement of adlibs and clean up some sound. just shows how much detail he put into this project.
I think the story was that the explicit version of wet dreamz or one of the songs had the inexplicit adlibs and so that's what made him stop to call and say to add the explicit adlibs (maybe vice versa.) and fix it. But yes for the most part you are correct
Living in Germany, borderline France & Luxemburg. Watching you guys from the beginning. I love the journey. This my favorite album y’all. Much Love and Peace !!!
I only found this channel last week and I’ve been going down the rabbit hole ever since. Tail Of 2 Citiez probably one of the best rap songs live, especially when he went on tour for this. Cole controls the crowd so well. I sat back lawn at an amphitheater and watched the crowd bounce their hands in unison to the hook and that’s one my favorite concert experiences ever. Amazing moment
St Tropez was also sampled By mob Deep- Got to Give up the goods. there’s also the Esther Phillips sample too. I love that your father picked up on the Chaka Khan - Hollywood sample as well. This is my fav song on the albums. Great reaction !!
I asked for this a while back and seeing it popped up on UA-cam made me so happy. Cole is my favorite artist, his music is therapeutic and inspirational. Appreciate this, definitely do “sideline story” and “Friday night lights” album
I listened to this album for the first time when it came out and liked, but I was so young that I could not enjoy some of the deeper cuts of this album. A true masterpiece from a musical genius. It was great listening to this with you guys, I love your content !
The sample used in the song St.Tropez is also the same in Mobb Deep - Give up the Goods prod by QTip and also LL Cool J “Pink Cookies in a plastic bag getting crushed by Buildings”
It's really cool that your dad brought up the instruments in the beats because this album had live instrumentation when creating it. Cole can play the piano so I wonder if he did that part himself.
You guys should do a cross over episode with "turning the tables" where you react to something the dads mutually like and you guys both play the dads something..on some multiverse of reaction videos stuff..
