  • In this video (Part 1 of 2) I outline some of the specialist tools and equipment needed to synchronize (balance) the carburetors on my 1996 Honda VFR 750 (RC36A). This is the 4th generation VFR. The last of the VFR 750 models and the last VFR model to use carburetors. As with most things, its a tricky process if you don't know how. This video is aimed at those of you who have no experience synchronizing carburetors before. Don't stress or be intimidated by the process. Just get organized and source good tools/equipment!
Take a look at Part 2 of this video series to see how I actually checked and adjusted the carburetor synchronization.
Here is the link to the eBay dealer where I bought the Carburetor Synchronization tool (manometer) I used in this video series. I can recommend the seller and the product he sells from personal experience.

An alternative manometer for less than £100 that is highly recommended by Bike magazine is the Morgan Carbtune. I haven't used or owned one personally but its meant to be the best value for money on the market.

Morgan Carbtune also sell an angled screwdriver kit which is required for adjusting the carbs on some motorcycle models like my VFR750. I bought the angled screwdriver you see in this video series on a website called XLMOTO. Its of reasonably good quality.

Hey man! Just wanting to let you know, I really appreciate you doing these videos on the VFR 750! I have one myself and I want to do as much as possible on my own. Your videos are incredibly helpful so I know what to do, once a particular "problem" or need arises.
If you ever need to pull off the carbs, clean them and install them, could you maybe record it? That's the one task that really makes me a bit uneasy.
Cheers, take care and all the best!

Good to hear thanks. I'm doing a lot of work on the bike and recording as much as I can. Still a lot more to do on the bike over the next few weeks so plenty more videos to come once I get them edited. One job I am avoiding this year is removing the carburetors. I would leave them be unless there was performance issues starting or running the bike after doing all the other more essential jobs such as replacing oil+filter, engine coolant, air filter, fuel filter, balancing carbs and checking valve clearances. Luckily for me the bike is starting and running perfect after completing all those tasks. I've removed the carbs on my Honda VT700 before and its a difficult job the first time round when you don't know what you are doing just because the carbs will be stuck in the air intake rubber mounts. The Motorcycle MD has a good video on his channel where he shows how to remove carbs properly and how to clean them thoroughly on a Honda Shadow.

@@TheMotorcycleMuse Ah, yeah, that makes sense. My VFR doesn't have any hickups either and runs beautifully, too. I just want to be prepared for when I have to dig into the carbs for the first time, that's all. Thanks for the tip with the Motorcycle MD, I'll check out his channel and of course I'm looking forward to your videos that are on their way!

@@TheMotorcycleMuse Hi, have you already done the video where we can see the replacement of the engine coolant or the fuel filter? (I can't see them) Thank you very much for your work.

@@AntVFRF I have a video on how to change the oil filter and engine oil on my channel yes. I did change coolant on my bike but I never made a video on it due to time constraints. Its simple enough to do though. Join the VFR750 RC36 Facebook page and you'll find service manual for free in files section.
