@@thynysan MK4 A80 Supras was expensive in the 1990s so yeah the MK5 A90 is a bargain. Also, it would had been expensive than a C8 Mid Engine Corvette , if Toyota didn't collaborate with another Manufacturer (BMW).
So if Toyota said that the supra 2020 had 335HP and in reality it had 380HP, now that they said that the 2021 have 380HP have what around 420HP stock that’s crazy on that little car just with stage 1 should be around 550HP
It's like the Q50 vs a Q50 red sport... stock for stock the redsport is faster but mod for mod, they make around the same power..fbo tuned they're near identical. It's already been proven. It won't gain more power than a 2020 when modded..the 21+ is already tuned better from thr factory. 20 is more restricted from the tune. I have a 2021. Btw, they dyno 380-390 whp stock which is actually closer to 430-450 bhp. They also trap 117-118 on the 1/4 stock which is a neck to neck run against the 2018+ mustang GT 10 spd and Camaro SS 10 spd. Mod for mod, the 20-22 will destroy the mustang and camaro since they're FI cars. 👌
Toyota actually changed the design of the piston head to achieve the lower compression ratio. They explicitly state that in their press release. Car and Driver dyno’d the 2020 and 2021 models and the 2021 car makes considerably more power above 5,000 rpms. Below 4,500 rpms the cars are identical. However, as you demonstrated once the rpms pass that 4,500 mark the 2021 will pull away from the 2020 model all day long.

This car is simply wonderful I just received mine from Austria it took me 3 months to get this car here to Seattle Washington but it was worth every minute of waiting it's incredible the way you accelerate and brake and you don't even feel it it's very delicate when it comes to accelerate and brake. I have the 2021 Supra GR and they did a wonderful job with the exterior design
Car and Driver just dyno the new supra...it makes 388whp/420 lb-ft tq. 12:32 no wonder it gaps the 2020 model. This confirms the speculations that the engine/ new head is from the 2020 Z4; Toyota definitely knows how to tune the engine better than BMW
What's interesting is that the 2020 Z4 still retains the 11:1 compression ratio, whereas this new Supra uniquely goes down to 10.2:1. This means the internals to the Supra are unique to it. I wonder what else is different?!
@@albonfilmssince they changed the head, I'm guessing head gasket is causing a change in the compression ratio. It's probably a thicker gasket, therefore lowering the compression ratio. I mean there's a lot of aspects that change the ratio, but i highly doubt they're changing the bore size, stroke, piston config, depth height, and chamber size. imo, the head gasket change seems to be the most reasonable answer to why it goes down from 11 to 10.2. I'm may pickup a 2020 Supra. I'm not going to take it to the track, but i may do some power build and tune, but nothing crazy. Maybe 100 extra hp over stock, so the low compression piston change won't affect me. Either this or a 1st generation M2.
Downpipe and a tune on a 2020 Supra should get you 100hp easily! Test drive one and see if you like how it drives. I really enjoy mine! Thanks for watching!
Great comparison 👍 I wonder how the compression drop to 10.2 will feel (and perform) for everyday around town driving( or auto crossing or on a tight technical track for that matter). From a roll it obviously performed better, although you aren’t always roll racing on a highway. I know there is more to it than CR difference to making a car faster, but maybe the higher CR and weird 2 port exhaust manifold had something to do with why the 2020 “felt” so fast.
Just from the butt dyno, I think the low to mid range of the 2021 is still very good, so I think response is mostly the same. I definitely would like to put one on an AutoX head to head with a 2020 to see how transient response differed though.
Definitely would love to see that (auto x) video. If nothing else, tuners may feel a little bit more comfortable slapping on a big single , filling up on e85 (is the a90/91 flex fuel ready) and cranking up the boost with a lower compression ratio. Although a few a90’s with 7xx plus at wheels have already run 9’s , so what is the real benefit of the lower CR and 6 port exhaust manny? Power potential? Engine/trans longevity? Port runner envy? Could be a question only Albon can solve in a future video...

Both cars had one person in them during races, and both had two people in them during talking segments. Thanks for watching!
This seems to be the only video on UA-cam that is pitting the 2021 Supra VS the 2020 Supra... and that's sad. What the hell are these journalists doing?
For real!
was that Jakie Ding’s car?
One of the Best reviews I’ve seen on the Supra.
Thanks man!
Honestly I would be pissed at Toyota if I had gotten the Launch Edition 2020 for limited edition badges and a slower/less refined version than the 2021 3.0L
Some people certainly feel that way!
I’d rather have a targa than a manual. But a manual would still be awesome.
if they think the B58 6 cyl variant doesn't have a manual that can handle the power/torque then maybe they can offer it in the 4 cylinder version? Maybe some poeple will take that trade-off
I think that's a great idea
im sorry but 33k subs? like what?? first time for me here, coming from goonzquad vid.
this was a very nice vid, awesome review, calm and well spoken not like most mumblers and shouters out there with million subs.. you guys got mine and ill share your channel everywhere.
good job!
Thank you so much!
That beat up Supra looks familiar...Jackie ding Supra the one he crashed in the track
Correct!
You never buy the first year of any new car...
2021 Supra Wins!
Yes it does! But 2020s are cheaper!
You guys are comparing these cars driving at residential speed in the burbs............ makes sense ........lol
Can't go on track if all the tracks are closed! We were planning on doing back to back track testing at Road Atlanta but that was cancelled unfortunately. Our backroads aren't bad though!
Love the look of these supras. Have they figured out a way to stop the wind buffeting when the window is down?
There are a few aftermarket solutions!
@@albonfilms id be interested to see what they are and how they look. thanks
You're not going to notice a difference just cruising around the track dude got to put it through its paces
Yeah he said that like 3 times in the video lol
What a banger
Thank you!!!
Badass car!
It is!
Nice in-depth stuff as expected. Manual yes if poss would be nice option also if it drives down price of automatic vers so I can buy that in the future yes too.
Thanks for watching! Agreed!
Toyota should just give you a new supra. Your vids inspired to buying a supra as my next car, and probably many more people too. Smh @toyota
Tell Toyota to put some color to the inside of this car instead of that ugly all black interior. It looks cheap and outdated.
That 2020 model looks like Ultron 🥴 and the 2021 looks like a new age Bumblebee the autobot!
Hahaha agreed!
@@albonfilms Subbing just because you took time out to like and respond to my comment!
That 2020 supra needs a HUGE sticker
Do you think they will do a TRD version of that Supra?
I think so! But I think it will be called a GRMN rather than TRD
Yes, you should have waited lol
Been waiting for this!
🙌🙌🙌
This was the best Supra review I've seen so far. And I've seen a ton lol
I appreciate that! Thank you so much for watching!
You can't start the race all the time
Yes. Manual.
Is that Jackie’s car
Save the manuals 🥺
Manual
That yellow looks beautiful!!! I’m sold.
It's really nice!
Are the reported horsepower and torque figure's more accurate for 2021?
388 wheel for the 2021
nope still under rated
Still making way more power than advertised lol!
@@albonfilms good good
Waiting on a manual 😀
“Engine” man “engine”. ;) ^v^ great video.
Lolll same difference! Thanks for watching dude!
Albon love you guys
Wow! 2021 seems quite a bit faster.
Indeed it is!
