"So majestic, so melancholy"...what a beautiful way to describe this song. You wear your feelings on your face and share them so generously. It really is a pleasure listening to these musicians I've come to appreciate so much along with you who are so obviously loving them too. Your reactions contain wonderful musical observations but what I think I like most is the power of your emotional honesty. Thank you so much.

Same reaction I had when heard it for the first time....and it was live! I was not the only one in tears in the audience and a song must be really special to give this!
I was lucky enough to see DL live in 2014 in Las Vegas (where I live). Saw them on local TV the night before and ran down to the Hard Rock as fast as I could to get tickets since I’d been following them for awhile and turning my fellow fusion friends on to them. Wow! They are exactly the same live. And so soft spoken and polite. I knew they would explode one day.

back again.. something about the pace, grandeur and progressions in this track that keeps me coming back. It's a slower track but I keep wondering if it's my favourite dirty loops track.. So freaking perfect. I loved your comment about the three of them focusing inside, I can so relate. Jonah's high note following by an even higher note knocked me off my chair. So how come he is so amazing on the keys and has the voice of an angel??
These guys have opened up a whole new way of experiencing the wonders of music for me..Only just discovered them (2023)......There is hope in this wasteland of much of today's music.I share your Joy Jeff.
You catch my feelings about this song. Obviosly you know what this is all about. The craftsmanship is impeccable with these guys on so many levels. As a fellow countryman I cannot be anything else than proud that this music came out of a public funded school. 🇸🇪💯❤️👍

This brought a huge smile to my face! You are OFFICIALLY my friend and you are welcome to hang out with me on this channel and chat about these guys, anytime!
I knew you would love it! Just listen to those harmonies going on in the background in the second half of the last chorus. And it rounds up with Jonah's beautiful endnote stretching into to the outro! Man, I don't know how many times I have listened to this song.
I’ve really come to enjoy your channel because of your reactions to Dirty Loops. Your reaction to Next to You was so genuine and authentic. This song, Breakdown, plays on a loop in my head. Gorgeous. Appreciate you. Subscribed.
I am constantly drawn back to anything and everything that Dirty loops has to offer. Totally insane playing and on a level that must amaze even the best musos on the planet. Their material is just so original and refreshing and they just seem to add another dimension to their songs that just makes you wanting to hear more. Your reaction ,Jeff, hits all the right notes. Totally agree with your thinking .
Jeff. Like you, I am constantly blown away by the guys in Dirty Loops and the standard of their insane playing. Can you please tell me or find an explanation why the fourth member is never or rarely spoken about? I know Kristina Kraftling is a close personal friend and accomplished musician himself but he does not receive the accolades he deserves me thinks. Is there a reason he remains in the background? Any you can find out would be very much appreciated.
Before I heard DL, the only musical melancholy wail that blissfully broke my heart on every listen was young Brian Wilson. [Enter Jonah] What is that sound?! Oh my God! My heart! Is it still beating?! Well it's been pleasantly pulverized, but I suppose perhaps I don't need it after all. Let's listen once more shall we? So... Brian is still my nostalgic melancholy harmonizing wizard, but DL has some sort of soul-grasping sorcery goin' on. They are each astoundingly talented individually, but the three of them together is spell-casting musical magic! Sorry, I must be in a Harry Potter state of mind this morning. Your reaction, as always is spot on. Thank you.
Jeff, you made my day, once again a beautiful reaction with comments I totally agree. You talking about melancholy which is painful and beautiful at the same time, as life can be. Musically there is a lot of melancholy in swedish folkmusic and I think DL is part of that tradition, but they blend it in a amazing way with R&B and soulmusic. Thank you once again for sharing your love for music with us 💕
Thank you so much for this. I have a feeling I would love Swedish Folkmusic. The roots these guys have are so strong, emotionally. You are so right about life being painful and beautiful!
These guys are COMPOSERS in this song. It’s cinematic and sonically gorgeous the whole way thru, I’ve commented on other reaction videos that this song gives me James Bond movie score vibes. Would love to hear them do a complete soundtrack someday, they would knock it out of the park.
This is superb storytelling, and combined with the raw emotion in Jonah's voice, it just leaves us breathless. Thanks for articulating what so many of us feel about this song Jeff.
@@StrateleStudios ... This song is so slinky, sultry and smoky it's crazy. I know they can blaze, but this laid back pocket they do, rules. That key change after the vocal gymnastics, which is great, just kills me. Throw in all the crazy drum fills and bass fills during the transitions, and this for me, is the most tasteful track they've ever done.
Jeff - I love the emotion you exude while listening. You allow yourself to affected and you don't try try to hide it. I really respect that. Thank you, great job!. . . . .Jim C
Thank you Jim! You know, I feel really fortunate to be blessed with this overwhelming connection to music (and other forms of art for that matter). The fact that people feel something from watching me react to these songs takes it to another level. Thank you for your kinds words!
I am obsessed with Dirty Loops and now that I found your channel I am also obsessed with your reactions. Thank you for sharing this with us. Love from Mexico!!
It's great to see your rections! It's touching to see in another person the emotions they trigger in me too! I've been following DL for a few years now and was afraid they wouldn't get back together. Their music is just so special, incomparable! I was so excited to see them live in Dresden this year in November, unfortunately the show was postponed to next year due to corona. Looking forward for more reactions!
Thank you! Yes Jonah was saying they were booked all over the place and they almost all got cancelled! Hopefully the coming year we will see more of them, at least that is the plan. Did you happen to see my interview with Jonah? If not check it out we discussed a lot of things you’ll find interesting! (Part 3 of the interview premieres this Saturday)
Couldn't have clicked on this reaction faster!! Didn't disappoint! Such a wonderful reaction, so glad you love Dirty Loops as much as I do! Keep the videos coming - They are my favourite! I would recommend, 'Hit me', 'The Way She Walks', 'Wake Me Up' - all DL of course and 'Coffee Break' by Jonah - Big love from the UK from a huge fan of you! x
Ssssshhhh...Ruth, don't tell anyone but I'm going to be post "Hit Me" on Saturday! (Then I'm doing "Forever Young" next week...hitting the older stuff now!) Thanks for being a part of the channel! make sure you subscribe if you haven't!
Another great reaction video to "Breakdown"! The first time I listen to one of their songs, I can't help but overly focus on Henrik's bass playing. I know I'm going to hear some amazing, tasteful bass grooves and runs. It takes me a few times of listening to really step back and listen to the song. I wish we had more bands like Dirty Loops to enjoy. BTW, nice Steely Dan, Aja shirt! When you run out of Dirty Loops songs, Aja would be a great reaction video. I never get tired of hearing Steve Gadd play one of the most iconic drum solos ever recorded! BTW, I'm a has-been drummer/percussionist. I like how you point out the subtle points of the performances. You caught the little hi-hat fill Aron played (at 1:32). I think he "borrowed" that from Vinnie Coliauta when he played with Zappa. Keep 'em coming!
Dude, your comments are so awesome! I love reading them, I really do. You just gave me an idea…I need to get into doing some Steely Dan videos. I have so many observations of their music. The end of Aja makes me cry. YES I caught that HH fill!!!
@@StrateleStudios Thank you! Glad you like my comments! I listen to music on a different (deeper) level than most, but really appreciate bands that can have the "average" listener appreciate their music. Like Dirty Loops, Steely Dan has that capability. They play the most head-bobbable music ever performed, yet the music is FULL of awesomeness from some of the best musicians on the planet. If you look back at the musicians they used in the studio, it's the who's-who A-List of musicians, session players and other top talent. Steely Dan and Dirty Loops are my favorite two bands. When Walter passed, it really impacted me for a long time. Half of the heart of Steely Dan was gone. Donald will keep going, but not seeing the awkward big white man playing those iconic guitar parts will always be hard. There is SO MUCH content for you for Steely Dan, you can go a long time. And, they have songs that everyone appreciates, and grew up with. Their Two Against Nature album (I can say album, I'm old) is one of the best performances and best engineering that has ever been captured. It's my go-to album/CD for auditioning audio systems, which is another hobby of mine. I'm so familiar with the album, I can easily assess the audio systems pros and cons. Soooooo.....let's get this Steely Dan thing going! :)
@@CharleyClose This was like reading a message to myself 😂🤣😂. 💯% agree with everything you said! One of my favorite moments from SD later stuff is the sax intro to “Pixeleen” off of “Everything Must Go”. Yes Steely Dan is going to make a debut very soon!!!
@@StrateleStudios LOL!! Too funny! Pixeleen is a great tune. On an unrelated note, check out this video of Henrik's trio playing Coltrane's "Giant Steps". I stumbled across it a few weeks ago. I know you're familiar with the tune. Henrik's interpretation and performance will blow your mind! Search UA-cam for "Henrik Linder - Giant Steps (By Coltrane)". It's 4:10 in length. Be sure you're sitting down!
I soo appreciate your critique and authenticity as a DL fan. I reccomend you please experience Henrick on another level. UTFF with guitar virtuoso Jack Gardner and Owanne as well as his second mezmorizing trio composition of 3 works called the GEM project. Everything these DL composers create is Captivating. Can't wait for Aron to emerge from the shadows to share his individual musicianship and genius. I love ❤ our loopified fan family. Thank you fur sharing your truest musical self with all of us.
Oh yea! I accidentally came across Henrik with Gardner & Owane WOW! Those guys are no joke! DL fans are the greatest, so glad I started doing these vids on this channel! I had no idea it would be so well received!
I play the french horn, and the first time i heard this song I thought "Oooooh, have they actually used a horn there?", and then one of the notes are cut off really abruptly, in a way that you just don't do it on a real brass instrument, and I was so disappointed, hahaha. Sounds gorgeous, but I still would have loved a bit of real french horn action there. :D
I usually never ever watch "reaction vids" but found yours last week and subscribed instantly...must have watched your other DL ones a hundred times ahaha ! There's something SO touching about you man. Absolutely love this, it's all about emotion and honestly warms my heart everytime to watch these. Discovered DL two weeks ago (how in the world didn't I heard from these guys before ??), I'm addicted to their music now. Literally blew my mind in the best way ! Anyway, thanks for sharing your emotions/reactions like this and keep it up ! Cheers from France :) PS : Nice guitar wall...aha ! Did a guitar solo video on this song by the way (Breakdown) few days ago, if you'd like to give it a listen ! Original obviously doesn't need any guitar solo at all ahaha, but it's so fun to "play" with these guys "virtually". Also did one on Follow the Light ;)
I think I must be hallucinating this, but I truly feel the bond of the trio in this album. These guys grew up together in music since before high school, and they respect each other so much. Henrik is so humble as to gladly take whatever Aron writes for him even when it's unnatural for a bassist (as a result he gets to do what other bassists can't even think of). Jonah, being classically trained, acknowledges without hesitation that Henrik and Aron are his greatest influence (and when the other two thought it was too cheesy, he responded "what's wrong with you guys"). And Aron, being the mastermind of the band and writer of most of the songs, is willing to support the entire band in the background most of the time, without overpowering with unnecessary drum fills. It's just too beautiful. This album is designed much more purposefully than Loopified. As a fusion-rooted fan, Loopified still gives me the most excitement to this day. Yet I can tell (probably over-reading) the purpose of each of the fives songs in Phoenix. "Rock You" is clearly more pop-oriented to reach a wider audience. "Work Shit Out" is a showcase for Aron, which he deserves so much. "Next To You" is a Dirty Loops' climax of cross-genre fusion - R&B, funk, pop, rock, gospel, soul, jazz fusion, orchestral rock...maybe even more. "World on Fire" is reminiscent of Loopified and Henrik's solo sounds great there. "Breakdown" is slow and tender where Jonah shows his crazy vocal range and expression - something very different and evolutionary from his early pop-style licks in Loopified. Every song gives some idea and someone a channel to shine, and they all complement each other beautifully. I have to admit when I first heard Phoenix I did not appreciate it as much as I do now, because I was so used to and expecting only jazz-pop-fusion stuff. The magic of Dirty Loops is that theirs songs transformed me and taught me to appreciate music in multiple dimensions, and to love the minds more than the works they create.
Would you agree that it would be nice and also interesting to see theese guys playing at some Music Awards? I'd love to see those of the audience that doesn't know about them react to their skills
I love these guys, and I only heard this song for the first time a few days ago. And is it just me, or is that very first chord a little wink to “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel? I enjoy your videos very much.
btw... our 3 entertainers here did a little sideshow called "Songs For Lovers" with no singing and Jonah had a "Coffee Break" during which the other 2 villains did their own thing like here ua-cam.com/video/FjFnPVHoqKY/v-deo.html "Bitten By The Kitten". You might like the setting Jeff ;-)
I second what everyone else has already said in the comments about your videos 🙂 I'm curious about the book on your music stand! Are there really sheet music available for Dirty Loops songs or what is that?
The thing with them is, they don´t fake anxiety or joy and they have the "tools" to go from the core to the creation of a whole universe... okok I´m writing this whilst seeing the video and you just parrallel my thoughts again so I stop going on - you´re just describing it ;-)
Who is actually the composer and lyricist of all these DL songs? And the arrangements, who's working that shit out? And what, if anything is Quincy Jones doing with these guys?
One of my students told me about this pop song the other day.........and I heard it and it was ........like all the other songs today.......bland and overdone.......... then comes Dirty Loops......... you know, ............there just isn't anything like this in the world today. Nothing
Everybody has their own take on things. My take is keep doing what you're doing. It seems like Jonah likes it and as far as I can tell you are the only reactor whose actually heard from any of DL.
@@robote7679 there are people who create and people who tear down. I am fortunate to be able to discern one from the other.
Your reactions adds incredibly to the actual song.
Aw man, thank you Jon 👊
I play the french horn, and the first time i heard this song I thought "Oooooh, have they actually used a horn there?", and then one of the notes are cut off really abruptly, in a way that you just don't do it on a real brass instrument, and I was so disappointed, hahaha. Sounds gorgeous, but I still would have loved a bit of real french horn action there. :D
Hahaha 🤣 damn no representation for French Horn players…booooooo 😄
Aron tunes his drums so perfectly for each song
I can’t get over how great his drums sound on every single recording!
It’s such an enriching pleasure (and relief) to share musical experiences with you... especially Dirty Loops.. who are just the best. Thanks man 🤍
Aw man...thank you SO MUCH. That means a lot to me!!! :) :) :)
@@StrateleStudios you’re so welcome dude! Wish you only good things 🙌
Ah man thank you!!! Killer job on your solos! I just subscribed to your channel. Well done my friend!
@@StrateleStudios Thanks so much ! Way too kind !
Thanks for a passioned reaction and last week DL party!Hope Jonah checked it out again! Subscribed!
Me too!!! 😃 Thank you for subscribing!
Thank You so much for Your reactions. You feel all this stuff by soul, thanks a lot for that!
uall, the dud cry...realy beatifull.
They know each other so well for a decade so think as one
Makes perfect sense! ☺️
Last week's reactions hidden DL message: Next to you World on fire +Breakdown
WHAT TO DO? Follow the Light & Work shit out 😆🇸🇪
😂 I love this!!! Hahaha 👏👏👏
Would you agree that it would be nice and also interesting to see theese guys playing at some Music Awards? I'd love to see those of the audience that doesn't know about them react to their skills
Lol yes!!!!!!!
This song makes me cry every time hahaha. Love the Steely Dan shirt btw. Did you ever hear them with Drew Zingg?
Thank You for this one, Greetings from Argentina
Argentina! Yes! Thank you for watching this video!
I love these guys, and I only heard this song for the first time a few days ago. And is it just me, or is that very first chord a little wink to “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel? I enjoy your videos very much.
Thank you David, so glad you’re here! 😊😊😊
Loving your work brother ❤️
Knew you’d love it 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Jake! Man what a killer tune!!!
i make the same face as you when i listen this amazing (again) song , sound like toto even better! they are so good on ballad song too ...
Hahaha right?! Involuntary facial expressions 😃
Dope!!!!! 🔥 reminds me of the R&B group Mint Condition- their song "So Fine"..... Dirty loops is 🔥
It's easy to understand why Jonah wants to lift your reactions and emotional reception of DL's tunes. Thnx man 🙏
that's the reaction when I first hear this song "how the heck his voice reach that damn note?!" 😂
btw... our 3 entertainers here did a little sideshow called "Songs For Lovers" with no singing and Jonah had a "Coffee Break" during which the other 2 villains did their own thing like here ua-cam.com/video/FjFnPVHoqKY/v-deo.html "Bitten By The Kitten". You might like the setting Jeff ;-)
I’m working on finishing up my “Bitten By The Kitten” video right now! ☺️☺️☺️
@@StrateleStudios ;-)
I cried the first time I heard this
If you possess a soul how could you not?! 🫶
I second what everyone else has already said in the comments about your videos 🙂 I'm curious about the book on your music stand! Are there really sheet music available for Dirty Loops songs or what is that?
Yes! That’s Henriks bass book (Dirty Loops songs, ya), Aron has one for drums as well. They just recently came out.
Man, Jonah Can sing high.
Right?!!!
The thing with them is, they don´t fake anxiety or joy and they have the "tools" to go from the core to the creation of a whole universe... okok I´m writing this whilst seeing the video and you just parrallel my thoughts again so I stop going on - you´re just describing it ;-)
We are on the same wavelength my friend!
So witch are the best Stratocaster or Teleditto? Btw I´m also a fan of melancoly songs... ;)
Ever heard "It Hurts" by them? That's another sad one, I'll tell ya'. Check it.
You would like “L.A.B Personify - live at roundhead studios” a great band from New Zealand. You won’t regret it!
Tomorrow bitten by kitten for fun. you are a great and honest commentator and critic
Aw thanks Peter! ☺️☺️☺️ Yes tomorrow noon California time is “Bitten By The Kitten” time!
Very nice T-Shirt anyway!!
😃😄 Thank you! 😊🫶
Who is actually the composer and lyricist of all these DL songs? And the arrangements, who's working that shit out? And what, if anything is Quincy Jones doing with these guys?
Ya man it’s all three together. I believe Jonah handles the bulk of the lyric writing but the arranging is all 3.
Have you tried their version of Samsung ringtone?
Not yet but have had lots of requests for it so I’m sure I’ll be doing it at some point soon!
Get the Lukather to solo on this world class !!!
One of my students told me about this pop song the other day.........and I heard it and it was ........like all the other songs today.......bland and overdone.......... then comes Dirty Loops......... you know, ............there just isn't anything like this in the world today. Nothing
❤️
Everybody has their own take on things. My take is keep doing what you're doing. It seems like Jonah likes it and as far as I can tell you are the only reactor whose actually heard from any of DL.
@@robote7679 there are people who create and people who tear down. I am fortunate to be able to discern one from the other. When people come after me with negativity I feel sorry for them because I know they lack joy in their lives. My armor is strong my friend 💪 as you mentioned…if it’s good enough to make Jonah cry I think I’m on the right track 😄
@@robote7679 I've seen them share links to a few other reactors on their Instagram stories. They seem to really appreciate their fans.
@@lottawiklund8606 That's a very nice thing to hear. Thanks for passing that along.
Will you marry me!!!! I love your passion for music!!!
Yes! 😄 🎉👏❤️
Nowadays you play everything with a click, which is counterproductive with regard to the development of creativity, especially with ballads.
