I like how Smith constantly refers to him as "Mr. Anderson". That's the name given to him by the system he fights against and Smith constantly uses it to pass the subliminal message that Neo is irrelevant; that he's non-important and subordinary, just like everybody else.
The impact forcing the rain into a compression bubble which then falls on the other agents is such a great moment. They put so much thought into the fights being imaginative. It makes Resurrections even more of a let down when you remember what the previous films offered
This may trigger people who aren't into grammar, so you can either move on with your day and stay ignorant, or you can "take the red pill" and be informed. If used as a noun, letdown is one word.
@@Muircetach Yeah and this fight here is shit. I think everyone was expecting Neo to fight like a 1000 agents Smiths, instead its really the worst fight out of the entire trilogy. The choreo is bad and you can't see anything, even though they totally overused bullet-time here.
Even the music is incredible and so layered with meaning . The Chanting in the beggining translates to "From ignorance lead me to truth/ From darkness lead me to light/From death lead me to immortality" In Sanskrit. like HOLY SHIT.
it is a good song. and am i the only one who still notices the difference in hand to hand combat techniques between smith and neo? neo is very fluid and very smooth. every motion is a block, parry, or attack. smith, it's so choppy and so one direction attack.
I always loved that. I loved that some of them had different reactions. Some were stoic, some were angry looking, and that one bobbing his head like he's taunting Neo like "Yeah... That's right. We're ALL Smith, asshole."
Ikr. Neo is better in speed and technique, while Smith is superior in strength and power. Although unfortunately Smith is a program so he won't get tired unlike Neo, we could see he immediately bested Neo
@@Alexeliomo Neo wins all the fights on the ground, and Smith wins all the fights in the air. There might be some symbolism in that considering that there is much hidden symbolism in the movies.
@@NeutroniummAlchemist Not all of them, the only fight Neo had the upper hand was only the beginning. After that he's losing to the point even when his strike connected, Smith just tanked it like it was nothing. The last part of their fight is on the ground but Neo also lost bcs he was exhausted
@@Alexeliomo The whole fight goes: ground: Neo wins, smashes Smith through street air: Smith wins, smashes Neo through wall and into building. air again: Smith bloodies Neo after smashing him through the rafters. ground: Neo wins, knocks off Smith's glasses and kicks him far away. Air: Neo lasts a bit longer, but loses in the end and gets smashed into the street hard enough to make a crater. Ground: Neo gets beaten a bit at first, but comes back and smashes Smith deep into the ground. Air: Smith comes flying out at Neo and knocks him down. Ground/air: Neo is finally too beaten to fight back, surrenders. Last blow is actually with Smith picking Neo up into the air with one arm, and punching him with the other, so it's a combination. So in the end, Neo always wins when he's on the ground, but there's one case where Smith wins on the ground, but that's after he destroyed Neo from the air many times and he was beaten.
I always remember how unsettling it was to see all of the Agent Smith clones in the windows of all the buildings. Pretty much everywhere you look in this scene is a clone, and a *TON* of them. Just to think how much stronger he's gotten from the second movie was so scary, every single person in the world was Agent Smith.
Not just every person, but every program within the matrix as well. The other agents, the oracle, seraph and most especially the architect, hence why it seems like the matrix is falling apart

That must've been a brutal set of scenes to act. Drenched in water for hours and hours with clothes on. Kudos to Keanu, Weaving and their stunt doubles for putting up with it to bring us some damn good entertainment.
Watch the behind the scenes. Keanu said it was hell, basically everyone on set was miserable working in constant drenching rain, and his clothes weighed a ton, lol.

One reason the matrix trilogy did so well and has stood the test of time is the absolute monstrous hard work put into the practical effects. There is so much bonus content in the DVDs that show this. Also all the actors hard work. Months in Asia just to learn and finetune their martial arts and fighting sequences. Amazing work ethic
When they run at each other and start clashing those few seconds into those scene is so cinematic ! 😭 I just watched this as an adult and they nailed it!
@@freakfreaky7929 If they didn’t it would have been too obvious to Smith that Neo was tricking him. Smith kind of knows but doesn’t understand until afterwards as he can’t see past his decisions.
This fight is one of the greatest fight scenes in cinema history Also fun fact, the rain is supposed to represent The Matrix lettering crawl. Smith has infected the Matrix so much so that it's beginning to un-make itself.
You can tell me everything about this third movie. But this scene is unbeatable everytime, everywhere. There is nothing greater than this scene in my mind. Nor there'll ever be.
@@shriharihudli No he didn't lol. Neo and Smith are equal in terms of power and strength. This last fight clearly shows that. Neo whooped Smith ass just as much as Smith whooped Neo . There is only one advantage that Smith has over Neo. That is Smith never tires because he isn't human. Neo was clearly exhausted by the end of this fight.
@@trongvu86 You know what, I have to agree to that, but not as tired as Neo. That's only because Neo is human and he isn't. Weird though, that he does seem to either be tired or worn down from the battle. He did take equally amount of damage as Neo. It does state they are equal in this fight, dish out equal amount of damage, and neither can defeat the other. This is why Neo had to stop fighting and the whole point of him sacrificing himself. If not, this battle would have never ended. So it was the only way to win and finally destroy Smith and save humanity and the machines both.
I don't care what anyone says. I loved this movie and thought this was the most badass final fight in movie history. I loved it then, and I still love it now. Hell, I even bought the soundtrack years ago (Before it could be easily found online) JUST because I wanted to listen to the song on its own.
One detail that unfortunately isn’t really able to be seen is that a lot of the rain was made to look like Matrix coding in post. Apparently it was far easier to see on an IMAX screen or in movie theaters, but essentially was there to symbolize how the Matrix was breaking down. Cool stuff.
Yea, UA-cam's low bitrate (even on the 1080p option) really suffers with clips like these. The rain just turns into blocky compression artifacts if you look closely, lol.
The scene has heavy CGI but you cannot even realize it because the dialogue is well written and the actors are delivering the characters sooo good. The presence of agent Smith and Neo soo awsome you even forget it's a movie and you end up watching the scene a milli times. And the fights are soo awsome... Neo is sleek with the punches while Smith is going at him like a pitbull All this makes the viewer forget about the CGI But some other movies just wonner show us how good they are at getting CGI crew. Nothing else to show the viewers.
The last fight of a series with incredible fights needed to be otp ossim. Plus u can say that smith doesn’t give a shit about maintaining the illusion of the matrix anymore
i remember back in 2003 everyone complaining about this movie, i really enjoyed it, now after seeing that garbage Resurrections, i can say this is a masterpiece, i mean the epic, the music, the slow mo, the choreography, neo vs smith, gives me chills and goosebumps, simply amazing !!!
Movies will never be the same again. No one can come up with anything original anymore and care more about "the message" then great acting, plot, and having fun.
Neo is not to be feared. He's brave enough to return to a world where there are only Smith clones. The way they stand there and watch them is very scary.
He's not afraid due to the death of trinity so he has nothing to lose anymore n not only that but knew even if all 100,000 clones attacked him. He would make it real n trick smith into thinking he's still fighting but ultimately will delete him entirely. So either way neo already won before the fight began. Smith's greed n arrogance to assimilate neo was his downfall despite having the powers of the Oracle to his advantage
The original movie was the most relatable. We watch a normal citizen venture beyond and earn his true freedom from what we know as reality. The sequels went very deep and far from what we know and I think that hurt them alot in terms of viewer reception. But I always enjoyed this trilogy and the very complicated nature of the story. Hugo Weaving was such a fucking badass in all of these.
I don't either. Get so sick and tired of people always saying the 2nd and 3rd movies are terrible. Sometimes I think a lot of these folks who constantly criticize the sequels, just do it because they hear other people hating on them, and they just don't understand them. I don't care what anyone says. The 2nd and 3rd film are just as good as the first. The trilogy is even better when you watch all 3 films together.
As far as final showdowns go this one is the best ever put to film. Both of them are at peak power. Peak knowledge. Peak experience. They're equally matched. And they just put everything that has been established to use and simply go at it with zero reservation or hesitation. The good guys almost always win by some technicality in movies. They're always beat up and weakened and can't usually go toe to toe with the villain. But not here and that's why I love it so much.

Reading through the comments takes me back to the times when we used to talk about that movie in a gathering, however here it’s a gathering with the whole humanity
One thing I love about this fight is how the directors and set designers intentionally made the raindrops look bigger than normal to reflect the green lines of code that fall down on the screen representing the Matrix
He already has plenty of recognition. Smith, Elrond, V from V for Vendetta, the dude has all the recognition anybody who isn't a complete narcissist could ever need.
There will never be a epic trilogy like this ever! Characters,acting,soundtracks,production,scenario,cinematography... Just epic man. To this day for me its the best 3 films ever.
This movie definitely had it's flaws but the final showdown between Neo and Smith here will always be the best fight in the entire series to me (Yes, It's better than the subway fight).
I like this fight because it managed to bring back the vibes from the Subway fight. Neo is the underdog and Smith is an unstoppable force. Since Neo got a major power boost by the end of the first film, the logical thing was to give Smith a power boost as well and by the start of this fight, you get the same vibes. Neo is the underdog(despite being powerful) and Smith being an unstoppable force(him taking over the Matrix). I just love how this scene is a prime example of "show don't tell". Smith doesn't have to directly say he has taken over the Matrix. Just the mere fact they show us that the Matrix is nothing but Smith clones is a frightening thing to see.
The matrix trilogy is up there with the original Star Wars trilogy, truly extraordinary, the sequels were kind of treated harshly when they came out but they’ve aged very well in my opinion
I think the sequels would be treated better if they just were written a bit different (Merovingian and The Architect come to mind) and had better real world characters and arcs.
I don’t care what anybody says I loved all three of these films, yes the second and third weren’t as good as the first, the first is just on a whole different level it’s a masterpiece and honestly it stands on its own, cannot wait for matrix 4
That is what made this battle so awesome. Neo, despite being powerful, is still human. Smith on the other hand has all of Neo's powers but is a computer so he doesn't feel pain or fatigue. This gives Smith the advantage of simply wearing Neo Down.
I love the score of the scene where Neo faces Smith. In the score we can hear chants in the language Sanskrit from India, which has a very deep meaning. Asato ma sadgamaya which in Sanskrit means "From ignorance, lead me to truth" “Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya” which in Sanskrit means “may the light of knowledge remove the darkness of ignorance” Sanskritam is a beautiful language and full of wisdom. This lines fit perfectly in this scene. Love the direction!

That's the name given to him by the system he fights against and Smith constantly uses it to pass the subliminal message that Neo is irrelevant; that he's non-important and subordinary, just like everybody else.
Smith is The System eating itself
*"A program with attitude."*
I always liked polite villains.
And then in Resurrections he starts referring to him as “Tom” for no apparent reason
@@Damon242 Exactly i was so pissed off
The impact forcing the rain into a compression bubble which then falls on the other agents is such a great moment. They put so much thought into the fights being imaginative. It makes Resurrections even more of a let down when you remember what the previous films offered
This may trigger people who aren't into grammar, so you can either move on with your day and stay ignorant, or you can "take the red pill" and be informed.

@@Muircetach Yeah and this fight here is shit. I think everyone was expecting Neo to fight like a 1000 agents Smiths, instead its really the worst fight out of the entire trilogy. The choreo is bad and you can't see anything, even though they totally overused bullet-time here.

Mr. Anderson probably one of his most iconic lines. one of the First things you probably think of when you talk about the Matrix Hello Mr. Anderson!

Those opening strikes Neo did were beautiful. He flowed no wasted movement just a work of art.
Even agent smith 5 was agreeing. He was shaking his head up and down.
@@Alexeliomo The whole fight goes:
ground: Neo wins, smashes Smith through street
air: Smith wins, smashes Neo through wall and into building.
air again: Smith bloodies Neo after smashing him through the rafters.
ground: Neo wins, knocks off Smith's glasses and kicks him far away.

@@godssoldier2319 Smith seem pretty tired when he asked the other Smith if it's over
@@trongvu86 You know what, I have to agree to that, but not as tired as Neo.
Matrix 4 should’ve never existed.
This was the perfect end to a series.

Neo is not to be feared. He's brave enough to return to a world where there are only Smith clones. The way they stand there and watch them is very scary.
after all he is the one
He wasnt scared. Neo had already both won and lost the fight before it began.
Neo accepted his destiny. He had to be assimilate by Smith to beat him.
