When I was a kid I didn't even know Three's Company had lyrics. I thought it was just "buh buh buh buh buh boo".
Ha, that is awesome. I suppose that could be true for a lot of shows when we were younger, especially if they were short. But yeah, sometimes you know its there, but just didn't think about the lyrics. Thanks for the comment.

@@GENXPERIENCE Yeah, I saw it on a story or a video about her. Apparently, she wrote the lyrics and they were based on something her mother said to her.
I know the genre is sitcoms, but you have to make a list that includes “The Rockford Files” and “The Fall Guy.”
If this one went well, I was going to do TV shows/prime time/hour long action comedy, action drama (whatever I should call it, lol), as well. So I will keep that in mind. Thank you

My favorite TV theme songs:
With lyrics: The Flintstones, Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, Car 54, Where Are You?, The Jetsons, The Patty Duke Show, Gidget, Cheers, The Addams Family.
Without lyrics: M*A*S*H, Law & Order: SVU, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Perry Mason, Route 66, The Andy Griffith Show, Taxi, Barney Miller, The Price Is Right (still using the same theme song for 50+ years).
That is quite a list. Of course I love so many more than this 13, but these are the ones I thought had the BEST STORYTELLING theme song...not just song or music. But I will make other shows like this. Thanks for watching.
Random trivia: Many instrumental theme songs actually have lyrics, even if they are never used. Apparently it’s a royalties thing. Hogan’s Hero’s theme had lyrics? Yep. And of course:

A theme song fanatic here! When I was a kid and got a tape recorder for my birthday, I was on cloud nine. I used to tape the theme songs of TV shows as well as the shows themselves and listen to them later. Very weird, I know, especially by today's standards, but this was before the VCR and even those are now obsolete. (But I still own one.) Thanx for all the memories, Victor!

Not so much story telling but it does set the mood: Maureen McGovern's theme to "Different Worlds" is pretty catchy and I think it got radio airplay as well. Also the chorus theme to "Its A Living" and the Sherman Hemsley show "Amen".
And I liked the instrumental theme to ALF and honorable mention to the theme to its animated series.
The instrumental for ALF is a Winner in my book. I did think of Diff'rent World...but it wasn't quite fitting my criteria, lol. I watched Amen, but going to have to revisit that one. Thank you
Re the theme song for Good Times: It was sung by James Gilstrap, not Jill. Gilstrap was also the lead vocalist on the first verse of Stevie Wonder's 1973 hit "You Are the Sunshine of My Life". By the way, Blinky Williams' real first name is Mary. Ron Dante, the vocalist on the original Silver Spoons theme, was one of three vocalists for The Archies, along with Andy Kim and Toni Wine. Dante was one of those singers whose voice was everywhere back in the '60s-early '70s, on TV commercial jingles, at least two TV theme songs, and many hit records.

Growing up in Cincinnati, i got to hear the alternate version of the WKRP theme that they recorded for local station WKRC occasionally.

Theme songs are definitely a lost "art." Even instrumental ones like MASH and Taxi hold up -- in that regard, some did last into the modern era (by that I mean a decade or so ago with shows like The Office and Parks & Recreation having themes that are memorable). When you constantly strip things down to the bare bones, you lose something, and I think the dumping of theme songs to free up more commercial time or to just save time and money is one of those moves that has really taken away from so many shows.
Agreed. And yes, instrumentals (even those that came later) can be so very nice and still work in that same way. But those abrupt starts, the lack of build up is just missed by me...and others, I think.
I love the end of the Alice theme song. It set the tone for the show and let me know it was going to be real and fun.

Loved "The Facts of Life" theme from season 2 on. The character Mrs. G was great, but never cared for her singing voice on the season 1 theme song.
It is amazing how hearing the theme song to a TV show takes me back to being a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s. I have several on my music list like the themes to Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, The Rockford Files, Black Sheep Squadron, etc. All Hail Mike Post!

Random trivia: Facts of Life singer Gloria Loring was Alan Thicke’s wife / Robin Thicke’s mom at the time.
And I knew she famous on soaps, but did not know she was with Alan.
My poor kids have to suffer me bursting into a 70s or 80s theme song while teaching them some life lesson. Facts of Life is a favorite as well as Fat Albert and the Cosby kids.

In keep in mind half of stuff I wasn't born to 84. I am a 90s kids so my stuff is 90s shows. But I do remember some of the older stuff as this age bc I see it now on tv apps. Lol. I love Mama Family as well ❤and Hazel ❤.

I belive it is Andy, too. But there is nothing wrong with letting people think about it a moment. And it could be about ANY of them

How does Fresh Prince not even get a mention? After the end of the golden age of theme songs in general, and specifically the age of theme songs which explain the premise, Will Smith brought it back with perhaps the best explanatory theme song ever.
Cause it is too far into the 90s. It overlaps way to much with the Millennials...so it is something that is not as GEN Xperience as my channel is obviously about. Sure, we experienced it, but it wasn't for us as much alone.

For me Leon Redbone was an aquired taste but I did like his theme to "Mr. Belvedere". My sis and I thought it was going to be cheesy fluff but it was actually prettt funny.

You left out the theme to MASH. That one still plays in alot of peoples heads and considering that the last episode was one of the most watched events in TV history, it kinda feels incomplete without it.
The theme to MASH is the tune to the song Suic!de Is Painless, which the movie MASH featured during the movie. He did show MASH really quick but probably didn't mention it because YT doesn't like the S word and would demonetize the video.
Oh, Suicide is Painless is one of my favorite songs. It is a great story song, but in the sitcom, they don't use the lyrics, so I thought of it more like an instrumental like Taxi. The MASH lyrics don't exactly tell a story like the others on my top Storytelling Theme song list, but that doesn't mean I don't love it...and will cover it in a later show. Thank you
I do consider MASH an instrumental sitcom theme song (although the full song is in the movie), so I didn't spend time on it. Funny about that word, I would probably have said it anyway and not even thought about what it could mean for me, lol. I have set my content to adult and don't like to censor words, but hmmmmm I wonder what they would have done. Thanks for the comment and the view.
There is a football season sitcom that had a theme song sung by Gladys Knight I can’t remember if it was the beginning or ending credits but it was awsome

I had only ever heard of Angie, so wasn't familiar with her theme song. I just saw it and love the old style intro and opening. The words don't tell much of a story, but its still great...and now I got to watch an episode or two.
