Born in the late 60s so this was my childhood. We had the tupperware I remember those salt n pepper shakers from our table , the drink tumblers. Mom had the wicker chair and patio furniture. Lincoln Logs ,, dude , I love ya man that made me smile ... here's a scent that was really common in our house for as far back as my memory goes , Rose Milk hand lotion. Great episode !
Rose Milk, huh? That is something very new to me. I am in early 70s guy, but love this crap and stench or not, it is all done with love and respect. Thanks for watching.
Even though you can still smell these items today, the smell of a new comic book straight off of the spinner rack and the smell of that brand new baseball glove that took forever to break in.
Great scent memories for sure. Old Paperbacks and COmics got a different smell, and about gloves...sad too few kids get one of those in their childhood. It is almost like that smell is going extinct.
Ahem. As a small child, in about 1978 I had a pizza scented, scratch n sniff t-shirt. I had forgotten about that until this video dropped... Also, Tabu.
Nice memory. I remember that one as well. It was an odd pizza, but as kid who loved food, I couldn't get enough. In my SMELLS OF THE 80s show, you'll see more about Scratch N Sniffs.
@@GENXPERIENCEit was odd! But I kept scratching and sniffing, wishing I had been given strawberry like the cool kids.. 😅 I'm glad you remember it too, I'll check the 80s olfactory reminiscence in a bit, thank you
When you started talking about Lincoln Logs, I immediately remembered the smell and instantly I was transported back to 1974. Oh… I still use Old Spice aftershave. So my kids will hopefully have similar comforting memories as they get older… plus I like the smell
Fun fact: The man who sang that iconic Charlie! jingle ("Kinda young, kinda now, Charlie/Kinda free, kinda wow, Charlie") was jazz vocalist Bobby Short.
70's TV taught us that in Ireland everyone showers outdoors and carries soap carving knives to reveal cleansing layers within. Irish Spring smelt very strongly but I can't say of what or whether it left us clean as a whistle.
The smell of the bubblegum in sports cards packs and also the movie and TV series bubblegum trading card and sticker packs like Star Wars , Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Battlestar Galactica, Charlie's Angels, Buck Rogers In The 25th Century and many others. Also the smell of the fresh new plastic and vinyl of Star Wars action figures and the Mego celebrity doll's fresh out of the box or package. The smell of brand new shag carpeting in the house.
I might .. might still have a few Battlestar Galactica cards as well as Close Encounters. If I remember right they had some of that on Viewmaster discs as well.
I think I should have put in that chalky terrible gum from cards. I remember loving it and hating it at the same time. I did put in action figure smell in my 80s version (not as much Star Wars, but you get the picture). Please check out that one too.
The scented Strawberry Shortcake line of dolls and figures actually started in 1979. My sister says hers still smell fruity! And I still have some of my grade school scratch-n-sniff stickers from the 70's and they're just as strong today as they were then! Chocolate, pancakes, grapes, strawberries, bubblegum, and GASOLINE!!! We were all "technically kinda" huffing gasoline as children! 🚙☁🚬
I have a soft spot for bus fumes. Yes, SS may have started in 70s, but I think her heyday is the 80s...so I included her there. Scratch n Sniff were in both 70s and 80s, but since sticker books and trading were more popular in the 80s, I put them there. I would have never guessed some still had their scent. What I did forget was play do in this one, for sure.

I wore Charlie perfume and Windsong back in the 1970's. Don't like Charlie anymore but I do still wear Windsong. My mom sold Tupperware during the early 1980's
I realize Windsong is from the 50s but that didnt keep a lot of women, including my mother from hosing themselves down with it in the 70s. Gag. I didnt think any perfume could be worse until in the 80s my mom switched to Giorgio. Way worse. Obnoxious. I miss how new comic books smelled back then. And hot cashews at the local pharmacy snack bar. And the Swanson fried chicken meals. And scratch and sniff stickered plastic necklaces. And rubber finger puppets. And Color Forms. And Fresca. And Hawaiian Tropic. And Mr Bubble Bubble Bath and Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo!! And the yeast rolls on school lunch trays and I seriously could go on way longer than anyone wants me to. I was born in '69 so the 70s was a world of absolute wonder and excitement to me. The 70s and 90s so far are my two favorite decades and I would take either one back gladly!
THe new Comic Book. A bit different from old ones that smelled like old paperbacks. Windsong was around awhile, but those scents got a big push in the 70s. I bet it was. I was born only a few years after you, so I still have found memories of all these things. Thanks for watching.
This jogged my memory on so many things! My mother sold Tupperware, so we still have tons of those yummy colors around here and I remember the new plastic smell! I also remember the foil tv dinner smell so vividly! Skin So Soft was mosquito repellent and we used it as such. I can smell everything in this video. Thank you for the reminder.
The liquid plastic that you squeezed out of a tube... you placed a glob of it on a special straw and then blew a psychedelic, swirly colored bubble. THAT stuff would stink up the whole room, and though I don't recall ever inhaling, I reckon doing so would have given the user a "next level" experience. Great video! Keep 'em coming!
yepyep! the scent of plastic and the cardboard the toys came in that you would make a home out of for your new friends... the scent (& also?) exhaust from a school bus brings me back... original Lysol spray... Mr. Bubble bubble bath! what about certain scents from your local mall??? the water fountain certainly had its own scent. Old shops like candle stores (Candles N' Such)... local department store that either roasted nuts or made candies... Woolworth smelling part store/part restaurant (Harvest House)... can't forget Orange Julius either. Off hand i remember my mom wearing either Odalisque or Wind Song perfume at the time and my dad wearing Aramis cologne... sometimes Aqua Velva. Though i think the BiG one then was *Brut 33*..... X-D
Definitely can recall those Tupperware and Lincoln Log odors. For me, fireplace smoke is up there as well, as we used our fireplace a good amount in the ‘70s and into the ‘80s.
Oil prices practically doubled and we all had to heat our homes with wood stoves. No one could afford oil. My father, uncle, grandfather and myself would go out into the woods and cut wood and fill up our pickups a few times a year.
Here in the U.K. we had Brut cologne for men and for the Ladies , Tweed by Lenthric which smelt like your Grandpa's dirty old sports coat. Unyet people said it was nice.
Old Spice... The mark of a man ! That was their slogan for many years... I have a bottle of Old Spice After Shave in my wardrobe. These days, I only put on a splash, because it is very expensive and also not using it every day. I also have Old Spice Deodorant Sticks and Deodorant Sprays. 😊👃

All fantastic smells. All time machines. ONly about 1/3 of those are still common today, but as for the 70s...I think Cherry Pie (the OG) from McDs would have been a great one, Trading Card GUM...certainly. I covered new toys in my 80s version, but I love the Baseball Mitt. NICE.
That is DOnna Summer in it for sure. lol, it may have been prevalent in that community for sure. I remember it though as the POSING Chair at Homecomings in High School, lol
Avon was funny because they did have those vessels or bottles shaped like a variety of things. It wasn't enough to have the bottle of stuff itself, but a new brick a brack for the shelf to put it in.
