@@SpamEggSausage it was for a long time. But it has popped back up into nostalgia channel rotations in the past several years. Currently runs on Catchy.
One of my favorites is Gimme a Break. Sadly it always gets overlooked. The show may not have always had the best jokes but it had more heart than most sitcoms.
Even the theme songs to the shows were iconic. The Jefferson’s, The Golden Girls, Cheers and Three’s Company all had songs that I can sing decades later.
I am the same way. Same with Cheers when Sam says, "Sorry, we're closed." Always gets to me. I think no matter how many times you watch a series, every time you get to the end it will always hit you hard. I have most of these series on dvd or blu ray so can watch them often. But every time it ends (even though I can restart it) it still gets me. Just shows how great the actors are and how great the writing is, that these characters seem real to you and a part of your life. :) Golden Girls was always a bit underrated and I hated how young people would say its' not funny just b/c the characters are older or men might say it's a show for women. But if a show is good (like GG and Designing women) it didn't matter who the main characters were or how old they are. Funny is funny, and great, well-written characters with great chemistry between the actors are timeless and should be watched by everyone.
My favorite was when George wanted Florence to be like a proper maid, and cater to all his wants. She did that and drove George insane. It was hilarious. By far the funniest show I ever saw.
The Jefferson were half late 1970s & early 1980s tv show: 📺 married with children was a can't miss 1980s tv show;; Cosby was a super great tv show 1980s etc etc
Golden Girls was a revolutionary show for its time since it was about senior citizen women, The Bob Newhart Show had a running bit where Bob would wake up in the middle of the night and tell his wife about his weird dreams, so it was doubly awesome that they used that to end Newhart.
Wow there really needs to be a part 2 to this to include Married with Children, Mamas Family, Designing Women, Miami Vice, Night Court, Family ties, Bosom Buddies, Dallas, Dynasty, etc etc
Every single one of these shows are great. My favorite of these was WKRP. The 70's through the 80's were the golden age of the sitcom. So many great characters and especially theme songs.
Less than 10 years after it ended WKRP was back with a new version The new WKRP. Most of the old cast reappears but new people were involved. Andy Travis and Bailey Quarters were the only two of the original cast that did not appear. With that said for showing lasted two seasons. 1991-92, 92-93. It was syndicated.
I was recommended this channel a few hours ago. I’m so glad because I’ve been binge watching for hours 😊. I was born in 82 but my siblings were teenagers when I was born so I was heavily influenced by the 80s. Thanks for all your hard work. Your content is great ❤
when John Ritter passed away I LITERALLY bawled like a baby I took it EXTREMELY hard! To me losing was just like losing a favorite family member. I love John so much he was cute very sweet and hilarious. Actors are nowhere near his abilities
I was lucky and was able to spend a full day out on the lake skiing and tubing with John Ritter. I had a co-worker that was related to him and he was getting married so John was there for the week so we all hung out one day.

(WKRP)it was ok and it had a great theme song at the beginning🎵 🎶 too. Newhart was ok. Thank you for bringing back the excellent memories take care.
I cannot believe you did not mention the sitcom family shows that dealt with realistic story lines that were very popular in the 1980s as well. The Cosby Show, Family Ties, two seasons of Valerie, and Growing Pains. I loved all these family shows sitcoms because they showed us realism. I love realism in sitcoms and The Golden Girls had this on their show as well. I all the sitcoms I have mention and one more Designing Women. They all kept it real.
@jasongibson I watched this list kind of late and it spent too much time on each series. My favorite sitcoms were Full House and the Cosby Show. Different Strokes was great until they started changing all of the characters.
I think this channel needs to have another top ten devoted to the great family sitcoms of the eighties starting with the Cosby show I loved watching it back in the day
A few things regarding WKRP... Les Nessman was not just the weather reporter, he was the news reporter. Bailey and Johnny had an on again, off again relationship in the later seasons. And, the closing credits were intentionally recorded so you couldn't understand them!
Love this nostalgia stuff. Never saw an episode (In college, no TV), but I believe all the women in The Golden Girls were supposed to be in their 50's. I'm now 56, nothing like what your 50's are like in the 80's. And I also believe the woman who played the oldest grandma character was the youngest of the four. Anyway...fun stuff.
I would have mentioned The Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Punky Brewster, Growing Pains, and The Cosby Show… some of the ones you mentioned I haven’t even heard of.
I love that you showed a scene of Three's Company with Cindy. She was such a great physical comedian with John Ritter as this clip shows. I wish she had stayed on the show longer.
I love all these great shows! At the top of the list is my all time favorite Golden Girls!!! Watching this video put a big smile on my face but now I'm so emotional.☺️👍🏾❤️
Right before Golden Girls began Rue McClanahan was on Mama's Family, Bea Arthur had done Maude, Betty White also appeared briefly on Mama's Family and was also on Mary Tyler Moore Show, Estelle Getty was doing small parts on different shows including Newhart In an episode.
@@alanvallazza9781 Yeah, I know I remember. Mama's Family went on hiatus for about two years and when they came back for a third season Betty and Rue were already on Golden Girls. Betty did several episodes of Mama's Family before the show first ended but she did one last episode in the third season but Rue did not because they killed her character off Aunt Fran at the beginning of the third season. Also Betty and Rue switched roles on The Golden Girls.

Newhart is one of the most unappreciated shows of all time! At least once a year I will binge all 8 seasons in about a month. BTW... Bob does NOT stutter! He stammers.
From watching Bea Arthur's real emotions in her final speech on "The Golden Girls," to (and I was not a fan of "Newhart") one of the BEST ever final scenes of any show (I was a HUGE fan of "The Bob Newhart Show") to what I thought was a weak ending to an absolute POWERHOUSE of a comedy ("We're closed" uttered from inside Cheers by Sam to a unknown pair of legs on the steps leading down to the bar - though Norm's speech about Sam really being there for his one TRUE love - the bar), the 1980s (I was born in 1971) I still will debate that it was the decade that had not only the best music EVER but the best TV shows ever!
As someone from Cincinnati, I'd like to add that WKRP in Cincinnati's closing credits song was purposefully nonsensical. Originally, they put the music together and rambled nonsensically through the lyrics intending to replace it later with actual lyrics, but they wanted the showrunners to hear the music portion. The showrunners decided that the nonsensical version was perfect as it basically lambasted the fact that some rock music seemed to have lyrics that were not easily discernable. Also, the Turkeys Away episode was loosely based on a real-life radio station promo. Only it involved throwing turkeys out the back of truck and not a helicopter. Also, I wanted to add that Bob Newhart was the king of the one-sided conversation. His phone conversations are very well done and memorable.
WKRP is my favorite non-sci-fi series. It's one of those rare shows where I loved all of the characters. Voted as "Never Jumped the Shark" on the old website, before TV Guide took it over.
@@jnb756Diff’rent Strokes Was Great. Probably Better Than Anything In This List. They Tackled Serious Issues A Lot Plus Bank Robbery And House Robbery With Everyone At Home.
Night Court The Cosby show Growing Pains Family Ties Benson Alice Those should've been added 2 the list but I understand if that's all u could think of. I ain't mad at cha
Alot of these were big at the end of the 70's and more of a reflection of life then. The 80's was Married With Children, Cheers, Family Ties, Different Strokes, Growing Pains, Dallas
Richard Sanders looked in his 60's when WKRP in Cincinnati and even though he wasn't that old it's crazy to think that he's still alive. As for the Golden Girls Betty White was actually the oldest and lived the longest. The Golden Girls still holds up today. Same goes for Three's Company. Seen Marla Gibbs in an episode of Young Sheldon and it was nice to see her, brings back so much nostalgia from The Jeffersons to 227. As for the Cheers theme song always made me sad and would try and miss the opening.
It was so bizarre when Roseanne was cancelled in its reboot for saying controversial and shocking things. Did no one remember what she was like 30 years before?
IT also unfortunately had the Streisand effect. Meaning, people looked up Valerie Jarrett and found many an unflattering pictures. And people who were "outraged" are too dumb to know she is not very black. She is from the Middle East and half white. They should've brushed over the thing
You in the USA had so many good series, as a teenager in Germany you were unlucky, we had the "Schwarzwaldklinik" and "SOKO 5113" only late in the eighties when there was cable TV that came by private broadcasters to Germany, many American Series where dubbed and on Air. There were various series from the States like Bonanza, Colt Seavers, Magnum, Golden Girls), but many episodes were missing.
@allencollins5666 I don't know what culture you are from but in my culture it was definitely relatable. Just that society portraited us in a negative way on TV and the movies. It was refreshing to see something positive about our culture for a change that was definitely factual but wasn't seen.
WKRP theme songs were Intro to represent the easy listening aspect of where it was to the rock and roll end theme of where it went. From the easyness of the beginning of the show to the ruff transition to the surviving rock and roll at the end of each episode.
Now from I had read many a year ago!!!. Roseanne had seen the British show Ab Fab and wanted to make a U.S. version, with her playing the character of Eddie and Jackie playing the Patsy character. But all the networks turned her down, so she just turned the last season of her show into Ab Fab. And If I also remember, Both Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley made a cameo appearance on Roseanne as their Ab Fab characters.
As a hobby, knowing I can never legally make any money off of it, I write screenplays for books. Maybe writing a series finale for The Jeffersons might be fun.
When I was younger I loved the TV show 8 Simple Rules and my favorite character was the father (John Ritter), my mom grow up in th 80s and loved Three's Company so she recommended the show to me. I loved the show so much it would be the only thing I would watch for a good year, my mom got so tired of it she recommended the golden girls and married with children so there would be something else on (she got sick of those shows as well because of me)
When you think about it, Three's Company IS an 80s show. It just happened to start in the 70s. That said, the Chrissy seasons were It for me, I remember them most from the reruns and I had a special fondness for Suzanne Somers because of Step by Step. I watched The Golden Girls in full starting in 2021 and I kinda regret not getting into it sooner because it's as good as they say it is. Roseanne still holds a special place in my heart even with all the controversy surrounding the lead actress. John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and the rest are amazing.
i missed 80s life movies, sitcom & everything , life was soo much better before internet & social media & i was a kid & teenager in 80s & miss those middle class shows & middle to older aged actors & cast ..is soo trash & f***ked up these days..ahh good ole days, yaa..those ones all was the GREAT shows & was a masterpiece would never forget & NEVER will be another , probably we watch the re-runs till we die!

She was also in another little known show called. She's the Sheriff.
Wow...the blonde guy on WKRP looks just like the guy that replaced Eric on "That 70s Show".
I never noticed before, but the cast of NewsRadio almost perfectly mirrors the cast of WKRP.
Shows that begin in the 70s are properly classified as 70s sitcoms.
I think the majority of the shows run or its best seasons are what decade it was in. Happy Days is a 70s sitcom, even though it ran until 1984
i missed 80s life movies, sitcom & everything , life was soo much better before internet & social media & i was a kid & teenager in 80s & miss those middle class shows & middle to older aged actors & cast ..is soo trash & f***ked up these days..ahh good ole days, yaa..those ones all was the GREAT shows & was a masterpiece would never forget & NEVER will be another , probably we watch the re-runs till we die!
I love "threes company ".
I personally liked Mr. Belvedere and Too close for comfort and Silver Spoons. Oh and can't forget Family Matters.
I was literally thinking about Wings, then I look at my tablet, and there's Fay on Newhart. Wow.
Gordon Jump, the original maytag man ! And Jan Smithers 🤩😍😍. There was some other blonde lady, she was always in the way of Jan 🤣
Larry Daryl and Daryl killed me every time
My wife loves "golden girls".
