Thank you for all the information. By far you've been the most helpful in understanding how to target crappie. If I'm ever in the Toledo Bend Lake area I'll definitely get with you for a guided fishing trip. Again, thanks for all the tips.
Fabulous video. Clarity of video and clarity of sound is probably the best I've ever seen on a fishing video. Thanks for the tips and showing us what to look for on downscan sonar!
Very good video. I'm trying to learn so I can teach my 7 year old grandson. Glad you are in east Texas, I'm fishing Lake Athens in my kayak. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you for all the info--just great--- lots of good advice!! I am on Lake Sinclare in Ga. and can build some of those hotels not far from my dock!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge about crappie fishing!!
Thank you for the info on the depth finder side imaging how to use one I never used one before but I will be getting me one this year to put on my boat I live in Louisiana and we have lots of trees and brush on the bottom but I will make me some Willow trees motels and put them up thank you my friend for all the info looking forward to bring my granddaughter fishing
Thank you for showing me how to read a fish finder. I had a friend in Georgia that would go around to people's houses that had real Christmas trees and he would make brush piles in the lake with those trees. Thank you for all of your knowledge you gave me. God bless you and your family. Mike Brady
Awesome video!! Lots of knowledge on how to read s graph and catch good quality crappie!! If I ever get down there, I will definitely look you up!! Keep the videos coming!
This one video convinced me to keep my new fishing boat. I have been confounded on how to use and understand these fish finders and the imaging they provide. So much so that I am taking a class tomorrow morning where the instructor will go thru all my electronics, set everything up properly and then teach me how to use everything! I was a hair away from deciding that this boat wasn’t for me and going back to a pontoon. I’ve been so frustrated!
I've got a new boat coming and It has the HDS 7 on it let me just say you not only did a wonderful job explaining crappie fishing in brush piles but you also did a wonderful job showing me a lot on what the HDS will be showing me. Good job
Brother, that is by far the best video and explanation of locating and catching crappie that I have ever seen. Im a new subscriber, and am going out to buy one of those Lowrance fish finders. Thank you again, and God Bless you.
Charlie Pack was a friend and he could catch crappie like crazy! but I digress, he used left over Christmas trees to form cover to attract crappie.. really works well
I know this is an old video and this is a small thing but the pen you was using to do your pointing on your fish finder was from consolidated communications and I work for them in Kansas City. By the way thank you for the great videos. It has helped me a lot.
I just went 40 years back in time. Anyone here remember "Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom"....daaaaang. Sounds just like that. Christmas trees make great brush piles also. You can find alot of them on the side of the road.
Greg first of all the info you provide for crappie fishing is outstanding. I’m setting up my my Bass Tracker Bass Buggy pontoon and will be adding a front trolling minn Kota motor and a front fish finder is a side view or a down view best for crappie fishing thanks Bruce
Both can be of value, however the down scan feature in absolutely invaluable. You'll find that when it shows fish, there really are fish. In contrast, sonar shows too much of everything, sometimes even causing schools of shad appear to be fish. The side imaging is helpful if you're trying to find a brush pile and you're not exactly sure where it is. You can view 20 or 30 feet on both sides of the boat while you're idling by. But once you find the brush pile however, you can actually study it by proper use of down imaging. Thanks for watching!
Capt. Greg, Great Video, I too am an inshore charter Captain in Buras La. I also do some armature videos. I think your video was very informative & educational. I am commenting on the 31 people that thumbs down your video. JUST HIT = and move on. NO NEED to thumb downs a man’s hard work, MAN up and leave a constructive comment! Greg I’m subscribing to yours please do likewise. Capt. Vic
Hellow ther I miss fishing in my Texas I was born in Brenham TX.and raised ther and grew up fishing return Livingston and lake Conroe oh it's good to see people ther still no how to fish I'm in AR. Now fishing here is not good to many garr. Keep everything ate up stay you stay groovy .....
Very nice video,Thanks for sharing . I also have a question do you have 3-D structure scan module installed? I have the HDS 7 gen 3 it came with strature scan transducer but images doe not look a good a on you unit. Thank you
Will this work all year round in all seasons at this depth? Should one go deeper for summer, winter? I live in SC so it's not to cold in the winter and HOT in summer. Thanks You, Danny.
Very clearly explained detail about the fish cover. Tkx Greg! Do you drop down or suspend any type feed into the hotels to help attract more bait fish? What lb.test line you prefer?
I don't use any feed to attract them. I use willow trees and they naturally attract Crappie in about a week. As a guide, I use 20 lb. braid/8 lb dia. However, if you have real clear water you might use 6 lb mono.
I would just like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you for being so clear and detailed about everything. A bunch of great tips and techniques that you shared here. I do have one question....is it acceptable to just drop brush into a lake? Do you need permission from anyone? I know you're creating habitat....but I can just imagine someone getting cited for "littering" or something. Any ideas how to be sure? Thanks again.
I enjoyed the video, I usually bass fish except when the crappie are on the banks, this year I am going to try your methods out for crappie year round. I was also wondering what rod you are using and what test line? Thanks for the great video.
Right now I'm using the 7' BnM Super Sensitive Rod. I use 20lb test braid/6lb dia.; however I can get by with it here. Some lakes that are extremely clear you might have to use a mono leader if you use braid. Thanks for watching!
my mother-in-law lives in Pineland I've been going up to visit her every year two or three times a year she don't have a clue of where I could go fish on that lake or where to launch the boat this past weekend I actually found a place I believe it was Sam Rayburn Park and then there was another one about a mile or two from that one before you get to the dam my question is and I was just curious if you fish out one of those hotels how long does it take for it to reload with fish if you would possibly know would it reload overnight or does it take several days just curious I really enjoyed your video it was very explanatory thank you
South, if youmare a guide you have approx 50-100 of these spots so you are always rotating and moving around...you take about 8 fish off each then move on so in a day if he hit 10 spots thats 80 fish....i have atleast 25 private spots and im not a guide

would suggest you show how your rigged first and how deep in relation to the brush pile
Excellent video, if you turn the boat around with the wind you don't have to listen to the waves striking the boat.
what bobberstop r u using
Thanks. Do Texas fish like brisket?
Very clearly explained detail about the fish cover. Tkx Greg! Do you drop down or suspend any type feed into the hotels to help attract more bait fish? What lb.test line you prefer?
I don't bait my brush piles. Crappie seem to go to them naturally, I use 20 braid/8lb dia. But you can also use 6 pound mono

Watch "How to Build a Crappie Hotel". It answers your question. Thanks for watching
what time of year was this
Thanks for all the tips. What length are those Mr. Crappie rods?
9' works best for me
Very informative! How do you build the hotels? How do you keep the willow tree upright? Thanks
50 lb sand bags to weigh them down. Empty gallon jugs to make them stand up.
I enjoyed the video, I usually bass fish except when the crappie are on the banks, this year I am going to try your methods out for crappie year round. I was also wondering what rod you are using and what test line? Thanks for the great video.

yeah , with 5 grand in electronics. I want to see you do it at Joe Pool lake in Arlington Tex with just side imaging and down imaging
some time i hope you talk about the weather wind derection in the future
how deep do you put the crappie hotels
Enjoyed the video Greg, good information. What brand are those 9 ft rods your using? Thank you.
One more question Greg, what size slip float do you use...is that the 3/4, 7/8. or 1 inch? Thanks so much
I use Wally Marshall's Slab Rod. But I put a Mitchell 310 open face spinning reel on it.
great video !...but what do you call the brushpiles again ?
Crappie Hotels , Thanks for watching!

It works, I go to the city park and get Christmas trees,
Do your home made brush piles get slab crappie
Is that the catfish XT200? Do you like it? I have been debating on getting that boat
The boat I run is the Ranger RT188. Best allum. boat ever!
Where do they go November through February?
May I ask what reel and pole u are using? They seem perfect for specks
