We decided to get acquainted with the Cadillac V-Series cars, factory-tuned performance versions of the CTS (the entry-level model), the STS (the Euro-style sport-luxury sedan), and the XLR (the convertible with the retractable hardtop), to see if GM's luxury division has the goods to take on BMW M and Mercedes AMG cars, not to mention tweaked sets of wheels wearing Audi RS and Jaguar R badges. What we discovered during a week of driving all over Southern California might surprise you. It sure surprised us.
Late to the game here by years lol but I bought my 2008 model in May 2018, have daily driven it ever since and I LOVE it. Not sure entirely what the technical differences were between '06 and '08 but I do know some minor cosmetic and a few minor but yet helpful under the hood technical changes were made.
Does have some mods (stage 1 & 2 intake, stage 2 ECU/Dyno tune, D3 plugin tune, 2.5 pulley, TC fab custom headers and cat-back Borla exhaust - 625hp).
She's been crazy reliable - Her name is Veronica BTW :P ... She has a random gremlin here or there but they're mostly false positives and my warranty would handle anything that wasn't. She's 11 years old now with 89k miles and running brilliantly. Not a rattle or random sound in the cabin either. Virtually flawless.
Not saying they're all like mine, just saying mine is amazing so I'm blessed.
By 2008, this car had been refined quite a bit. They're extremely rare (only 2500 or so were ever made from 2006-2009), comfortable, fun, quite reliable and fairly cheap - if you can find one. (written in 2020 by a current 2008 STS-V owner). Biggest problem for using as a daily however is fuel mileage; it's really bad LOL & requires premium but the past year and a half or so gas has been cheap (thanks to American oil production becoming #1 in the world) . As a second car (weekend or whatever) though, yes, highly recommended!
I am about to pick one up
You can have mine
The 2006-2009 Cadillac STS-V was assembled in Lansing, MI, USA.
Right. Essentially you're saying it's unique. I couldn't agree more. I love the high ride quality and styling.
beautiful car, hate the ones with red interior
isn’t it funny how times have changed. i guarantee a lot more people would prefer that over anything else. if you see this, let me know what you think. my dad has a 2006 with the same colors as this car.
1st Place - Tie between Cadillac STS-V and BMW M5
2nd Place - Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG
You don't EVER put a V8 engine in a $91,000. The E63 is a fuckin' waste of money. The WHOLE E-class range is a fuckin' waste of money. Fuck it! The E350 is $54,000 yet it doesn't have leather upholstery! Fuck it! I'd rather have an Audi A6, Lexus GS350, or BMW 528i for around $45,000 in which the Audi and BMW are sporty while the Audi and Lexus have standard leather seating!
I couldn't agree more. It's about $5,000 less than the M5 and $10,000 less than the E63. Who cares if it's weaker? It's luxurious, and gets to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. That's just 0.1 second under the M5, and 0.2 under the E63. It's an excellent car.
@UFCextra Your comment made me cry! Cadillac forever!
I love the car. It's better priced than the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63, and it's basically the same thing.
AMEN
it dosent air level rear shocks
@walkabout09, still a much nicer car than anything you've ever been in.
CTS-V for me
i have an 04 lexus gs... you don't have an 08 m5 at 21.. that's like having a bentley continental flying spur at 27
Fast Class
the sts is not as good as the m5, but the buy is just as good. i would be just as willing to pay $80,000 for an sts-v as i would to pay $86,000 for an m6
@walkabout09, you've never even seen a M3 in person, don't kid yourself.
@siracer0101 lol this has nothing to do with a saturn, where the hell did you get that from
Because he's a Goofball
I spotted a sts v with 96k miles for $19,500. What u guys think?
oStirFryo I hope you didn’t buy it
Alex Miranda what's bad about them?? I'm interested in one but it's a northstar engine. But I was looking at the forums and people were saying that the infamous problems with nrothstars were long gone before this came out
@@bunnell6335 The Northstar head bolt problems were sorted out prior to the last gen STS that came out in '05. There are no known issues with the last gen Northstar. I've owned 3 '05 or later STS Northstars, including my current '08 STS V and they've been brilliant.
@walkabout09, I have a job thank you and I don't have to break my bank account just to afford a Yugo.
Bottom line - The Cadillac STS-V might be weaker than the Benz E63 and Bimmer M5, but not much weaker. It's just almost as fast as the M5 and E63, just as luxurious, and just as entertaining. I understand the price difference of the M5 and the E63, but if you want to spend a little bit less money and still want a sporty, luxurious, and powerful ride, then the STS-V is precisely the car for you.
@walkabout09, coming from some high school dropout, how ironic.
you are a bad man but a smart man lol
how did you buy it for $98,000 used when the new one is $86,000? did you get ripped off i assume.
@walkabout09, using another quote you don't even understand? Nice nice... well this discussion is over.
How to fill my floor Jack
Your so full of bs. Day trading at 21? LOL. You got lucky last year? Really, because that's when the stock market took a dive...
I'd like to see your portfolio.
Why would you pay $98k for an 08 M5 when a brand new M5 is $85? That doesn't even make sense.
That car is automatic get a real thing and go with CTS-V
Its hilarious how full of shit the 13 year olds on eBay can be. . . it's also sad that they need to do that though.
@UFCextra lol you're funny
